I had a horrible experience with this company. I hired them to replace my roof as well as install James Harding cement board siding. I won't elaborate since there were so many issues but just read the negative reviews because they sum up my experience exactly, especially the one with water leaks on an interior ceiling. They never returned to address any issues and actually told me I got an incompetent crew that disguised themselves as a good crew. As I am writing this I have a very competent crew here fixing their mistakes and replacing a roof they botched. Stay away! read more

I had them replace roof and it leaked called several times and they said they would get back to us but never did. Finally had to have something some thing done to prevent further damage so after over 6 weeks had an other contractor come in and fix the singles and repair the ceiling and walls and install new installation. Water damage, incompetence, waste of money. Don't let Solid State onto your property. I contracted with Solid State to redo my siding and replace the decking and rails on my cantilevered balcony in the fall of 2019. It was a roughly $50K job. Everything looked good at first, though I have to say that Jeff Brooks was a pain to deal with. For example, when his crew gouged my brand new hardwood floors in two locations, Jeff agreed to have a flooring contractor fix the first gouge, but only paid half as much for the 2nd gouge (which I discovered only after fixing the 1st one). Solid State's shoddy work only became apparent to me about a year later, when, in December 2020, I saw water stains on my ceiling, right below the where the joists of my balcony enter the interior of my house. More water damage in January of 2021 - this is when I contacted Solid State and asked them to take a look. Jeff sent a whole series of people to my house over the course of about 2 years, first to do some work on the exterior of the house, which they thought would fix the water penetration; then to replace my balcony's sliding door, at a cost to me of over $7,000. Jeff himself told me this would be the best course of action to fix the water penetration. It didn't work. More work was done on the exterior, replacing some flashing - this didn't help. Eventually, Jeff sent someone to cut open my interior wall and ceiling, to better understand the leak. This was incredibly disruptive, but whatever, I figured it was worth it to fix the problem. With the wall open, I took several videos of water penetrating the exterior of the house at the balcony joists, which I shared with Jeff. His crew eventually pulled up my balcony decking and redid some more flashing, thinking the problem was fixed. To be fair to them, they used a hose to test for water penetration, and none was evident from inside the house when I was looking through the open wall. So everyone thought it was fixed. The crew came back to close up my wall and ceiling. These guys can't do drywall to save their lives, it looked absolutely awful. I was redoing their crappy patch job when I noticed that in the heavy wind and rain of December 2022, I was still getting water penetration! Jeff sent his guy over to my house again, who said he'd probably open up my window trim and take a look. He went silent for a while, but I was contacted by that person again in late Feb 2023, asking if I still had water leaking into the house. I gave up working with these guys. They're utterly incompetent and Jeff is terrible to work with. There was more than one frustrating discussion with him and his office about getting people over to my house. Jeff has claimed at various times that this leak has nothing to do with their work. So, what, it's just coincidence that SSC did all this work on my balcony, siding, and door, and I get water penetration in heavy rain?!? When there was no water penetration at all for the prior 3 years that I owned this house? If this has nothing to do with their crappy work, why was he sending crews to my house to do these crappy "repairs"? I have contracted with a local, reputable builder, at a cost of $10,000, to inspect everything and redo what needs to be redone. Which is more than just the siding and balcony - Solid State also screwed up when reinstalling my gutters (they didn't flash properly, I have water leaking down the fascia in 2 spots). When Solid State installed that new sliding door, they used the wrong color exterior caulk, not to mention the wrong color exterior paint for touch ups. But that's nothing compared to the water damage. Jeff Brooks and Solid State Construction are a nightmare. They damaged my home and cost me over $17,000 in expense due to their general incompetence. We would highly recommend Solid State Construction. They were easy to work with and very good about communicating with us throughout our project - a project that wrapped up faster than expected! We had them replace our siding, add new trim, new soffits, and a new door. From our first meeting with Andy to the final sign off with Chris, working with Solid State was a good experience. I especially want to call out Alex, John, and Zach who were at our house every day the weather allowed and who worked professionally, efficiently, and pleasantly. The sales process with Solid State was a pleasure. Andy was very knowledgeable about the product and really sold us on their Hardie Elite preferred status. They were the most expensive of the quotes we received but we decided to hire them with the expectation of a high quality job. The crew started the project earlier than expected but within 1 week things were off to a rocky start. While pulling off our old siding they managed to break a window, left exposed areas of the house open to the rain and punched multiple holes through our drywall. We observed them taking shortcuts (using nails instead of staples on the wrap since they didn't have the supplies on hand), neglecting to install flashing and not following proper siding patterns (i.e. you should never have overlapping seams!). It seemed like this was their first ever project. We were absolutely furious considering we paid a premium for "supposedly" expert installers. The project manager Joe was very reasonable and he brought in a whole new crew. The second group was much more professional and did a nice job. Once the siding was up, the crew packed up their gear and somewhat disappeared. They turned the project over to their service team and it took multiple weeks to get the final punchlist items resolved. The service team was very courteous and also did a nice job but that group must be understaffed due to the long delays. A straightforward siding job ended up taking over 2.5 months to complete. I'll give them 3 stars for making things right in the end (they patched the holes, replaced the window etc...so yay!) but the frustrating experiences and long timeline to complete the project aren't exactly a ringing endorsement. Based on the other very positive reviews I think we were an exception rather than their normal project. read more

I couldn't be happier with Solid State's work. They did an absolutely beautiful job on our James Hardie siding, new doors, and custom-built front door surround. During the coldest weeks of winter the guys still showed up promptly every morning and left our home in neat condition at the end of each work day. The work crew, the Project Manager, Chris, and the Owner, Jeff listened to our questions and concerns before, throughout, and after the project had finished and made sure we were satisfied with how everything had turned out. They were courteous and professional, and showed the kind of attention to detail and quality of workmanship that every owner hopes for when they hire a contractor. When one of our new door locks fit a little too tight and a window needed some more caulking one of the guys came back within a week to make the adjustments. That's first-class service! After living in our house for over 20 years, the original vinyl siding was really looking it's age. Our neighbor is a contactor ( Creative Custom Carpentry ) and a very good one, had Solid State Construction reside his house with Hardee siding. HIs house looks great. Now our house does too! We met with Jeff, the owner, who came up with multiple options that would fit our needs. We ended up choosing the Hardee siding and we are glad we did. Not only does it look good, you can tell that it is much more durable than vinyl. We had a very good experience with Solid State. From the start Greg, the salesman, was very professional and open with no sleazy pushiness. We had him quote both a siding job and a roofing job. We decided to hold off on the siding work, but the roofing quote was very reasonable so we proceeded with that. The crew did the work on a cold February day and got everything done in one day. The roof has 50 year shingles on it and it looks fantastic. They also cleaned up impeccably. I called them back for one minor tweak, to straighten out some flashing, and they were on it right away. Solid State Construction is a company that back up their work! We had a metal roof put on by them this past spring, and in early July, the roof started to leak around the chimney. I know you might be thinking, wait, how can they be that good if your roof leaked? After some tests with our hose, Joe and crew figured out the leaking wasn't the actual roof itself, rather where they had to cut into our chimney. With the intense rain storms we had been having, the rain was hitting at such an angle that it got into the tiny space between the flashing of the chimney and the chimney itself. Most contractors might have looked at our water damage and said our ceiling would dry out and leave it at that. Joe and team did exactly as we requested to fix our ceiling. They patched up the problem on the roof, ripped out the drywall, then let it dry for 2 weeks. They came back and put up new insulation, patched up the ceiling, sanded and painted it. We are very happy that we chose Solid State to put on our new roof. They stand behind their word and deliver when there is an issue! read more

I had a very good experience with Solid State Construction. We had CertanTeed vinyl siding installed at my mothers North Attleboro, MA property. The job was completed in a timely fashion and except for a couple of very minor details, which they came back and fixed in just a few days, they were in and out in a timely fashion and cleaned up all the mess. The salesman, Andy, was fantastic. When he saw we were hesitant about the high cost of the complete residing project with Hardie board, he drew up three plans, which we appreciated. The siding team did a terrific job in July heat, working 12 hours a day. We are very pleased with the results. We wish they would have been a little more mindful-they destroyed some plants, even those we tried to protect, and left many nails around the job site. The project manager left a lot to be desired. His boss was apologetic for the project manager's lack of professionalism. read more

We recently used Solid State Construction to side a new addition on the back of our house. We initially met with Greg who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our follow up appointment was with Jeff who worked with us and stayed within our budget. The work crew took 5 days to complete the addition and back of our house. The workmanship was very good, however, I had to have them return and clean up the siding. Chris was the manager who oversaw the project and he checked on the progress several times during the week. He was very accommodating and had the crew return to clean up the yard and wipe down the new siding. My husband and I are very picky when it comes to our home and we were happy with the outcome. We hope to complete the rest of the house within the next year and intend to hire Solid State. We used Hardie in Deep Ocean and love the color! read more

We got multiple quotes from different companies, and went with Solid State because they clearly didn't cut corners - a slightly higher quote from them was well worth the other guys with lower-end materials and a high-pressured sale tactic. We would adamantly discourage anyone that values their time and money to NOT work with this company. We were long time customers of SSC, spent tens of thousands of dollars with this company. While they are definitely more pricey than the competition we like to support a local business when we can. Recently, we had them do a small window replacement job (4 remaining windows) that had lead issues ( we live in a wonderful older home where because of the age of the house, it had been proactively encapsulated to prevent any lead issues.) We fully disclosed this to them and were happy to hear that they were "lead certified" and able to do the work where there may be lead underneath the encapsulation. SSC replaced the windows, and when lead inspector came to review the work she informed us right away there was a problem. The work they had done had possibly exposed our entire family to lead. We have small children so this was terrifying news. The lead inspector filed a complaint with the Department of Labor against SSC which will only ensure that they more closely monitor their future jobs. They still maintain their certification unless we wanted to take further actions. SSC was contacted and they came back to fix and do a more through clean up, which they had failed to initially do. Because of the failures of SSC on this job, it was recommended to have our children tested for lead. This was completely avoidable if SSC had done the job correctly. We reached out to the owner of the company to make him aware of the issue and to seek some sort of refund. Although we had worked with this company before, this was our first interaction with the owner, Jeff Brooks. Jeff's handling of what followed was completely unacceptable and unexpected. Immediately he was defensive, rude, & patronizing, blaming us for living in an older home for our issues. We were shocked by the way he would treat long time customers. He was exceedingly difficult to communicate with. He refused to give us a breakdown of cost of the project, left us nasty emails, and avoided our phones calls. Eventually, we finally were able to speak with him via phone were he agreed to a small refund. The check arrived with a hand scribbled note on a ripped piece of paper, again refusing to take any responsibility. Very odd and unprofessional. According to the lead inspector, not our opinion, the work done by this company put us at an unnecessary risk of lead exposure. We were very disappointed by the work itself, the customer service, and the complete unprofessionalism of the owner. We would not recommend them to anyone else after such an ordeal. This was supposed to be a simple job which turned into an absolute nightmare. I'm just glad we found out now before we continued with them for our larger projects. read more

We had an excellent experience with Solid State. We highly recommend them. From initial meetings with Andy to the final checks with Chris, this was arguably the best renovation experience we've had (and we've done a lot of work with our older fixer-upper). Any concerns or questions we had were promptly addressed, and the only notable snag, after we received a prompt reply from Andy, was addressed by Jeff himself (without us having to ask for it to be escalated to his level). Ours was essentially three projects (windows, doors, and full residing). Given how major two of the three of those were, it's amazing how relatively smooth it all went. Solid State even accomodated custom requests with ease. The compliments from neighbors never cease. Many have said they saw how happy the crew was, the care they put into it, and have expressed interest in some day doing similar work because of how well this all turned out. We went with a higher bid for the sake of customer service and it was worth every penny. We just wish they did more kinds of work, because we'd certainly consider them again! read more

From the beginning of our experience with Solid State, there were aspects we really liked and some things that were frustrating, and that stayed true throughout our entire experience. The Good: -Jeff, the owner, was really responsive when we'd had a bad experience with the initial sales rep who came out, and he personally came out to work with us on a revised bid. He asked really thoughtful questions about what had gone wrong, and seemed genuine about wanting to hear our feedback so that he could make fixes. He also replied to my call when issues arose during install, and was again, very receptive/helpful. -Their revised bids were in-line with if not slightly below other bids we received from competitors on both the roof and the siding (the original bids were much higher, but the revised ones were within a thousand or so of others we'd gotten). -William, the project manager, was very nice and professional when we did have problems during the install (more below on that). -So far, the roofing and rake board look good, and did well about a week after install with a heavy snowstorm. The Not So Good: -As mentioned, we had a rough start with Solid State, with a sales rep who came back for a second visit without formal proposals as we'd discussed at our first meeting, and very high, non-detailed rates. A separate rep followed up after we declined to move forward, to schedule a follow-up with Jeff, the owner, and we were frustrated when we called to confirm the day before only to find out the rep hadn't realized Jeff would be on vacation. Eventually, we did get to meet with Jeff, and moved forward with the roofing as noted above. -One of the things we were really explicit about with Jeff was that we wanted to ensure the yard/property were cleaned up after the job, as we have a dog and a toddler, and we use our lawn a lot. We were really disappointed that we had to ask multiple times for the yard to be cleaned up more after the job, and we are still finding nails and staples around the lawn weeks later. We also realized after the final walkthrough that there was a powdery residue left across our back lawn from the team cutting the PVC rake-board for install, which we are very disappointed by. One of the reasons we chose to go with Solid State is because of Jeff's assurances that the site would be spotless after, so this was probably our biggest disappointment. -There was a lot of confusion/lack of communication around aspects of the install process. William had called me to tell me they were going to be delayed by a day due to rain, stating that they never start roofing jobs in the rain. That was fine, but the crew showed up two days later to begin work, when it was still raining. I asked them to hold off until I talked to William (who wasn't onsite yet), and after about an hour when I was able to reach William on the phone, he said they shouldn't have been there until after the rain. We also had issues with communication around the end of the job, as I'd been assured the project would be done in 2 days. I was traveling that second day, and my husband returned home to find that the job hadn't been completed. Again, we had to reach out to get the update that they would need to finish work on a third day. I also had to request scheduling of a final walkthrough with William to ensure everything was completed to our satisfaction. William was very professional and helpful whenever I reached out, but I do wish things were more proactively communicated throughout the process. -Our gutters were removed/reinstalled as part of the process, and the gutter guards were haphazardly reinstalled. William quickly had the crew fix this after the final walkthrough. All in all, our roof looks good, and we are hoping that it continues to perform well for years to come. read more
