Checking in was easy and the rooms were standard; they were spacious and clean. We had two queen beds, coffee machine, a large TV, and mini fridge. The room was quiet, we didn't hear any of our neighbors. We noticed it was kid-friendly also. I think they definitely get more busy during the winters because of skiing and snowboarding season. There are many mountains and trails nearby. Parking was spacious and the customer service was good. The heated pool area was nice and they had a game room with arcade games and a pool table; there was an iTunes machine but it was down. I noticed a couple of vending machines if you have a snack craving. There's a restaurant onsite but we didn't dine there. The town of Ludlow was a few minutes away and it had plenty of shops and restaurants. Overall, we had a good stay and would definitely stay there again!

I have two good things to say- it was clean (which admittedly, is significant and pretty much the only reason I gave it a star) and the price was cheap (reflective of the quality). There are two properties- the Castle and the Pointe. I stayed at the Pointe, so I can't speak to the quality of the other, but you should be aware that they appear to be entirely different experiences. The Pointe would be easy to miss because it doesn't look like a hotel. Pulling up, you'll think you're at some sort of late 90s apartment complex or assisted living facility. The room I stayed in was pretty much a rebranded 1992 Holiday Inn, complete with the overwhelming stench of stale cigarettes (complimented by mildew) which was ironic because there is a 'no smoking' placard prominently displayed on the farmhouse-style dresser. I can get past the decor though, that's not a big deal and can even be charming. What matters to me is that the room is clean and the quality is decent, meaning things are in working order, etc. That was not the case here. By far, the biggest issue for me was the air conditioning. It is August. I expect a place that brands itself as a resort to have working air conditioning. It was off when I walked in, and the room was stifling. I turned it on, but immediately noticed it wasn't blowing cold, or even barely blowing at all for that matter. I gave it some time, but it never improved. When I brought it to the attention of the front desk, the response was fairly dismissive and standard "we'll move you to another room if you're not satisfied." While I appreciate that options are limited, relocating is not a small feat for me with mobility issues. I was told not to unpack my things, and just wait. When a technician came to look at it, he said it should be fine in about "ten to fifteen minutes" and miraculously, it was. What I didn't know is that this is apparently a common and ongoing problem, and someone has to manually reset the condenser. What I also didn't know is that the fix is only good for an hour or two and then it will go back to barely blowing (warm) air. Around 1am, I woke up sweating. The thermostat confirmed that the actual temp in the room was a good twelve degrees warmer than what it was set at. I called the front desk and the man working the overnight shift immediately knew what the issue was. I requested a fan and the condenser was reset but again, was only good for an hour or two and around 4am, I was sweating again. When I stay at a hotel, I usually take my time in the morning. I feel like if I am spending the money, I'd like to get at least 12 hours out of the stay and enjoy the property. That was not the case here. I didn't even shower, just woke up and got out as fast as I could. I was so hot and uncomfortable, I just wanted out. Some of this could have been forgiven, if not for the fact that 1) this is clearly an ongoing problem that has not been properly addressed, 2) with the exception of the young woman who checked me in, I found the staff to be stiffly polite at best and outright rude at worst. I did wonder for a moment if I was being overly sensitive or judging too harshly, but then while I was standing there, another guest told one of the women at the front desk that she was blatantly rude. In addition, I unfortunately have need of a service animal- from which you can deduce that there is obviously a reason for that. I asked at the front desk about rubbish bins to dispose of poop bags and I was told that I would need to throw them in the dumpster, so I asked if it was easily accessible. I was told it was. It was not- please see attached image. Worse- just a word of advice- if hotel staff is going to speak negatively about guests, perhaps wait until they are out of earshot. Hearing negative comments conveying annoyance about me and other guests, rather loudly, rubbed me very badly. In addition to all of the above, the handicap door access was broken- an issue for me as I was trying to navigate moving my bags into the building, and no one offered to assist or even hold the door, although they certainly saw me struggling. The ice machine was broken. Wifi not secure. The refrigerator was broken and my coffee creamer spoiled. The toilet worked but made a very alarming and disturbing grinding sound every fifteen minutes. The bed was AWFUL, completely sunken in the middle so that no matter how I repositioned my body, I would roll into a groove in the center. And no microwave is accessible, so you have to hand your food over to a staff member for them to take it in the back and microwave it for you. This is insanely unsanitary. Spend $30 and put a microwave in the lobby. This could be a decent property but without properly functioning facilities or welcoming staff, I just didn't find redeeming qualities. Solid no.

Stacy is militant about cleanliness. And being personally part of the cleanup crew I can attest to the job we did after the wedding. However Stacy dug into the trash and found cigarette butts and charged the bride $150 PER BUTT to the tune of several thousand dollars. In the middle of the reception. The inappropriately dressed staff kept the brides mother from entering the main house to use the bathroom. She's 95. He found a leaf in the hot tub and charged her for cleaning the tub. Which, if you're a respectable establishment. You should be cleaning that anyways, between EVERY guest's stay. Several times in the lead up to the event Stacy threatened to cancel the event leading to multiple breakdowns - emotional, not automotive. He maintained a persistent presence in the house during the stay of the bridal party, which was annoying. The bride and groom have been in a protracted battle with Stacy to get their security deposit back. The bride just wants it to be over. The unfriendliness of the staff, the rules imposed, considering the exorbitant price paid - tens of thousands of dollars. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The estate is made up of several buildings. There is a large mansion with lots of bedrooms (I think I counted 8 at least, not including a little hidden alcove with a real-life hidden room behind a bookshelf!), most of them with private bathrooms, though not all of them including showers, and with a variety of sleeping arrangements. Some had large beds, some with bunk beds, all of them comfortable. We got a bunk bed room but the mattress was great and there were real feather pillows. This main building has a large dining space with a piano, two big fireplace sitting rooms, and a beautiful industrial size kitchen with all the things you need to cook for a crowd. The smaller buildings include a barn with several bedrooms, another smaller house with its own kitchen, and a large theater which also may have had a bedroom or two, but I didn't get a chance to look around there. All of the buildings were very well maintained, impeccably clean, and spacious for a crowd. I can see why people would have an intimate 40-person wedding or family reunion type gathering here. I did find the artwork in the main building to be interesting - lots of different styles and not all from the same period. I'm not an artist so it was more interesting to me than anything but if you're looking for something very cohesive or a certain style you might be a bit surprised. Also - lots of signage. Something about a thousand signs of Do's and Don'ts everywhere makes me worry that the ownership is overly anxious about the property, but maybe they've had big issues with boarders in the past, I don't know. We had a really fantastic breakfast prepared by the staff/curators; it was beyond opulent with fresh fruit, breakfast pastries and breads, ham and egg sandwiches, sausages, yogurt, and some sort of a breakfast pasta that really made me go HRMMM to look at but when my husband convinced me to give it a try I was humbled by how tasty it was. Tasted like... breakfast pasta. Ha! That evening, the staff made an amazing bonfire out on the grounds, complete with warm blankets, Ghirardelli s'mores, hot cocoa, and truffled popcorn. As we were wrapping up for the night out there, suddenly there was a fireworks show that even our event organizer for the weekend didn't know about. Very lovely and unexpected. My one BIG issue that I wish could be addressed was the navigation issues in getting there. For the most part, people had no problem driving there, but my husband and I used Google Maps and Apple Maps to navigate there on both our phones and not only is the cell service practically nonexistent up there in the mountains, both of those apps took us to what felt like the middle of nowhere on rural unpaved, streetlight-less roads. This happened to a couple other members of our party as well. It actually took us an extra hour of driving around anxiously in the dark trying to find the place and to several dead end and unplowed roads. The website itself doesn't give any clear directions to the estate, though it does give coordinates for flying your personal helicopter there... I don't have that option these days, though. :)

The staff is genuinely warm and professional, and Robin at the front desk is a gem of a person. I have stayed twice since they reopened and both times wanted to linger in the lobby on the couches by the fire and take it in-you will too. The restaurant is EXCELLENT. I've tried the hummus and veggies, the chicken tenders, deviled eggs, steak frites, and chicken sandwich. I have high marks for all but consistently across the board, everything has made me say "the Chef treated this dish right". Wine menu is solid and there are awesome cocktails. Our server Eric is a professional through and through. The rooms are exactly as comfortable as you would hope they would be. Beds are great, shower water pressure is solid, there's a mini fridge, and the hotel shampoo and conditioner are actually really good! I have NEVER said that in my life. Some rooms are ski in/ski out, some face the mountain (cool to see the other skiers) some face the road (you won't notice much because the view over the valley is stunning) I say all of this as both a local who is glad this is a part of our community, a seasoned hospitality professional, and a mom of a toddler who agrees on all points except the cocktails. They were so engaging and made us feel welcome right from the get-go -- especially Diggins! The Inn itself is a cozy historic home, with beautiful grounds, in a prime location. The rooms are warm, inviting, and pristinely clean. The facilities cater to every dog's dream from fun games, play areas, beds, and treats. Not only that, we were provided with an excellent itinerary of all the surrounding local gems, from delicious restaurants, vibrant farms and breweries, to friendly, locally owned shops. All this surrounded by the stunning beauty of Vermont. I can't wait to come back to unwind.

At The Paw House Inn, you don't choose--you get the best of both worlds. My partner and I came up for a ski trip to Killington, and honestly, the service we received rivaled any luxury hotel we've stayed at, while Taco (our dog) got treated like royalty. Service for the Whole Pack: Mitch and Jeff are the dream team. Mitch's communication was flawless--he navigated us through some iffy weather on arrival day and acted as a top-tier concierge for the rest of the trip. He didn't just point us to a map; he gave us a locals-only tip for a public golf course that allows cross-country skiing. It was the highlight of our trip--fresh tracks for us, and off-leash freedom for Taco. Jeff, meanwhile, made us feel incredibly welcome (and made Taco his best friend with his lightning-fast treat distribution). It's rare to find hosts who care just as much about the quality of the human's dinner (sending us to Sweet Caroline's and Roots--both huge hits) as they do about the dog's happiness. The Stay: Breakfast was delicious every morning, but the real highlight was that Taco could sit right there with us. It was a lovely reminder of home--he never leaves our side until breakfast is over, and being able to keep that routine here made the trip feel incredibly special. The boarding facility is pristine, warm, and secure. We got video updates of Taco playing with his new friends (shoutout to Diggins, Blu, and Percy!) while we were skiing Killington, which let us actually relax and enjoy the slopes. The Verdict: If you want a vacation where you feel pampered and your dog has the time of his life, this is it. We're already planning our return.
