Having had a not so good experience at a Renaissance with a relative, I decided to choose Manor Care for my post-hospital care. I am very glad I chose Manor Care as my experience there was very good. From the nurses to the Physical/Occupational Therapy Staff everyone was attentive to my needs. Quite honestly as I was there over Christmas, I thought the staffing would not be as attentive, but I was wrong. There was more than a skeleton staff there the whole weekend and everyone was more than happy to help out. Even the food at this location was excellent. Sure there were some drawbacks but the staff there made sure I was comfortable and they helped me get better while I was there just over a week. If I ever had the need for skilled nursing again or I knew someone else who needed it, I would not hesitate to recommend Manor Care as their service is excellent and am grateful that this place helped me on the road to recovery.

Sometimes just taking a step back and put yourself in their shoes, and trust people are doing things with best of intentions. Unfortunately for us (meaning everyone, not the staff) human nature sometimes makes us think the worse of people, a mindset that we only can change within ourselves. Friendly staff, no one wants to be in a nursing home, call light response time is just very slow at high volume times.

They were absolutely awful. They refused to clean his bedding because he could not get up out of bed. It was excruciatingly painful to put weight on his FRESHLY RODDED LEG. They left him in soiled bedding covered in pus and blood that oozed out of his surgical wound. At some point he told one of the employees that they could be kinder to him because he has cancer. She replied that she knows other people who have cancer and that those people "didn't lay down to die." HE JUST HAD MAJOR ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY, YOU PSYCHOPATH! Other things: The physical therapist had no idea how to work with his condition and help him regain mobility. They wheeled him to physical therapy in a wheelchair that was missing the footrest on his bad leg, so that was excruciating for him, then they wanted him to do an exercise involving pulling weights toward him that were mounted on some kind of a wall or machine (not 100% certain) but it was a rowing motion. It caused the chair to move forward and he had to use his bad, freshly operated on leg to brace himself. Also, there are no phones in the rooms so if your loved one does not have a cell phone, as mine didn't, it will be insanely difficult for them to get in touch with you. To make matters even worse, they would not help him to get up to use the bathroom and they recommended an adult diaper... and they did not like to change people. The entire place reeked of urine. There are better options. Don't send anyone here, especially if they have issues with mobility.

This is a deplorable place & I would never leave my loved one here!

The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting from the receptionists to the PT Assistant. The Physical Therapists are highly-trained in helping others gain muscle control, thier knowledge and expertise speaks for itself. The handouts/videos for continuous exercises are very helpful. I thought the next visit went well, too, but the day after, I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep for three days. Added to that, my other hip and one knee were killing me. (The knee was so bad that I went back to the doctor and got a steroid shot. I don't think I should have had to do that.) I wound up cancelling my remaining appointments. The pain didn't go down for six weeks. I hate to say it, but I got a better exercise program from ChapGPT.

Our loved one was kept very clean, hand fed and comfortable. He was called by name and treated like a person not by room and bed number. For us each time we entered, reception welcomed us wished us a good day and said goodbye when we left. Each person we encountered said hello and the nurses and CNA's were very responsive. One time I noticed he had worked his way over to the side of bed and looked uncomfortable and they came in immediately and straightened him out. The social worker was very kind, patient and helpful. She answered her phone and returned calls. Something you don't get in other places. The place is not fancy but the people make the difference! We were faced with a very sad situation but this Oak Lawn Aliya team made what could have been horrible very tolerable. Thank you!!

Aliya Healthcare, at this time is not the facility for your loved ones who are in critical state of care.

I'll never forget the receptionist there, because when my loved one (fresh out of brain surgery) started screaming at me (some post-op psychosis) and I asked her, "How does anyone do this?" in tears, she replied "One day at a time." And that was really what I needed to hear in that moment. My loved one had complaints that they didn't have enough ice packs, that the packs they had weren't great, and other things of that nature, but I do think they are a tad underfunded and I don't hold that against them because the staff really does the absolute best that they can with the resources that they have. It's not the most engaging or exciting environment for long-term care, but it is peaceful and everyone is doing the best they can with the resources that they have. The residents were kept clean and comfortable, and while that seems like the bare minimum, it's more than I can say for the other facilities I have dealt with.

They are definitely short staffed and the lack of communication from the staff is infuriating. My relatives bathroom is nasty with an old stained toilet & seat. No hand soap in the dispenser(upon every visit). They didn't supply any hygiene products upon entering, it's been days. We had to bring our own after several visits & attempts of asking staff. They don't alway supply meals, we've had to request them multiple times. We also had to ask/remind them to provide PRESCRIPTION medications because they were only supplying over-the-counter meds & not the meds prescribed by Drs. So long story short if you have relatives in here, make sure you're checking in on them.
