Tim replaced the temperature-sensitive glass pane in one of the "tilt out" windows in my sister's den earlier today. (I was present for all of this work, including working with Tim. My sister is out of town today.) Tim is a craftsman in an area that frustrates many homeowners and tenants: window replacement, screen repair, etc. He's been working in this space since 1985 and is a consummate professional. My sister and Tim established a price for this work after Tim inspected her window a few weeks ago. Tim arrived on time and explained each step of his plan before commencing work. Tim set up a portable work table outside adjacent to his truck (so there's nothing to clean up in the house). Replacing this glass required disassembling some of the "moving parts" that allowed the window to open and tilt out. Tim explained what he was doing and carefully removed enough of the mechanism to safely remove the old pane and replace it with a new one. Tim is a pleasure to work. There's no debris to clean up (in the house or adjacent to his truck.) My sister and I are already thinking of additional work we need to do that is within Tim's portfolio of services. As a physically-challenged senior citizen I had to make my way to Brighton to Solo glass to bring both a wood-framed tray which required glass replacement and a lucite cane which required shortening. Tim charged me $25.00 for a 2-minute labor with his saw to cut off 3" of the cane. He rationalised that I was paying for his time when I questioned the outrageous charge. He told me that the price for installing a piece of glass in the wood frame would be $45.00, much more labor-intensive. I agreed. I asked him to phone me when it was ready. He did not. When 2 weeks had passed and he had not deposited the check for the cane I phoned him and asked that he kindly deposit the check and the end of the month was near. He did not. 6 days later I had to phone him again to remind him, whereupon he said he had just deposited the check. I said "I hope the check will clear as it is already the 27th of the month" Having not heard from him, I was going to cancel the tray work. He said he had already done the work. I said "You were going to phone me when it was ready" . He had no answer. I would not recommend this unreliable, unresponsive person, ever. read more

I reached out to multiple glass business in the area for guidance on repairing my sliding glass door out to my deck. It was scratched with sand paper and is minor. The businesses that did call me back simply said they don't do that type of work, which is fair because it's a small job. When Tim called me back however, he first gave me alternatives to repairing the damage myself with specific details. I find it rare these days when a professional gives you free advice before offering the solution that costs you money. I even confirmed this appointment via text (with name/address) and called the previous day to make sure he would be coming. I even had taken the whole day off from work. I had to give him the measurements of my several times over the phone, because he never seemed to write it down (I understand he's busy working on jobs, but if he can't write it down he should ask me to call later). When he did come, he was able to fix two of my windows but not the third, because he hadn't written down the measurements and the piece of glass he brought was two small. I called and texted him for months to get him to come back and do the third window. Several times he said he was driving there now, or would come the following day, and just didn't show up. If you offer a quality product but fail to give poor and unnecessarily slow service, it's worse than if you have a friendly prompt staff selling second rate merchandise and products. *this* is the reason for the single star. Solo was hired to cut two pieces of rectangular glass for us. Both pieces well average size, so it's not like they were going to have find some crazy distributor for large panes. Nope, about 18" x 12" ish. It took weeks and weeks. The order was lost, forgotten, put off, and neglected until we had to repeatedly call and yell at them. and then. . . when they finally promised to deliver it the next day after so much embarrassment, they never showed up. Finally got it the following day after having to call *again* and ask what happened. Quality product cut to spec, but inexcusable customer service. read more

I recently picked up a second hand hutch that was missing all of it's shelves so I called up Solo Glass to get new ones. I was quoted $11 each for their size and thickness. I asked if I could pick them up the next day, "sure no problem. I'll call you." well the day passes and no call. I call them the follow day (Sat) and there is no record of my call on Thursday. After a bit of repeating the initial conversation and sounding annoyed the guy cut my shelves in 30 minutes. When I arrived he had my shelves ready and they looked great. I think they really know what they are doing since their store is a mirrored mosaic of work. They had a few large pieces too so they can do all different sizes and complexities. While they do great work they are scattered so they lost my first invoice. In the end I got what I needed quickly so it was a successful transaction. read more
