Worked with these guys a while ago and their service still has a lasting memory with me. Nothing out of the ordinary special, just a great group of guys who do great, quality work. I had to get a new sliding glass door for an entertainment center after movers broke one of the two. I brought in the good door for them to work with. Only took a couple days and about $20. Their work was so stellar I am actually planning on getting them to replace the other original door for me because theirs fits so much better in the track than the originals ever did! By far the most unprofessional service I have ever contacted. I received a simple quote over the phone and scheduled a repair. They did not show up nor did they call to cancel. I called again to reschedule and again they did not show up to the appointment. This went on five more times over the course of three weeks. When I called to see what the issue was the manager hung up the phone without even an apology. Not sure how their glass work is but their service and integrity is atrocious. read more

if i could give this jerk zero stars i would. I went to Timmy @ Solo Glass to cut a piece of frosted 3/4" kidney shaped glass that split in half. I gave him the two pieces, he said no problem it would take a couple weeks. Three weeks later no word from Timmy. I call, no answer. I go to the shop and Timmy tells me he's having some issues with one of his employees and they misplaced my one of a kind broken piece of glass that can't be replaced but he thinks the assistant has it in his truck and he will track it down. After multiple call and back and forth, going to other glass cutters that Tim says his assistant might have left the glass at, he drops off the face of the earth. I drive to his shop to see it's been locked up by the IRS and i need to call them to get my stuff. Finally the feds get this idiot to call me back and meet me at the shop just so he can tell me he doesn't have it but his glass guy that turns out to be his partner, that turns out to be the deceased business owners son has my glass. He gives me that kids name and i chase him down, find his home address and show up at is house in Roxbury to finally get the original broken piece back from him. Tim made me chase down all leads other companies employees etc. myself. It took over five months from the time i dropped off my glass to when i got it back. Tim basically told me too bad and he was having problems of his own. Avoid this guy like the plague! Buyer Beware!!!! read more

I broke a large glass window at my parents' house the day after Thanksgiving. It was cold and rainy, so we needed a fix as soon as possible. My mom spent a while calling a number of different places, most of which didn't answer. One did, but they were prohibitively expensive and charging even more because of the emergency repair. Finally, we came across Timmy at Solo Glass. Timmy was prompt in his response, very polite, and offered to be out at our house first thing on Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. He did excellent work. He came with a table to cut the glass on-site and finished his work in less than an hour. He then spent a several hours helping us install some tricky storm windows, and get some other windows that had been painted shut unstuck. Timmy's work was excellent, his prices very fair, the quality of his work supreme, and we would recommend him to anyone who needs help with some glass. read more

Definitely something fishy is with this guy. He delivered the glass that I ordered - no issues here. It was the right size and everything looked perfect. I paid by check. Next day a door bell rings. Timmy is standing outside all apologetic "I lost your check, can I please have another one". Sure thing, those things do happen. I give him another check. He promises that even if he finds the first check he will destroy it. 3 months passes - none of checks get cashed. Then two weeks ago I check my account and I see the very first check got cashed. Not trusting Timmy I put a stop payment on check #2 (extra $20). Yesterday he calls me saying that my check #2 bounced and that I owe him money. He absolutely has no recollection of how he got two checks. He keeps asking me why I mailed him two checks and I keep telling him that he supposedly lost my check #1 and I gave him check #2 when he showed up announced at my door. Anyhow I would not do business with this guy again and I would not recommend him to any of the friends. He is either not too bright or a FRAUD, the end result is the same. The glass did end up costing me $20 more because of stop payment on check #2. read more

I was nervous about going to Solo Glass because the two reviews here were not exactly glowing. I just now finished re-installing the mirror I broke last month and I can say I'm very happy with my experience with Solo Glass. I dealt only with Timmy, so I can only really speak to his work. I called a couple of weeks ago and got a rather awkward-sounding voicemail and did not leave a message. I called around to some other places, but they either had hours that didn't work for me or their prices were crazy (considering I was replacing the glass in a $50 mirror). I tried Solo Glass again this morning and got Timmy. He was about to leave to go to a job site, but quoted me $40 for the size of glass I needed and said he'd be back after 1pm, and he'd give me a courtesy call. I called just after 2:30 and he was in the shop, never having called me. I was slightly annoyed, but frankly I didn't have much to do so it didn't affect my day. I can see how that would tick other people off, but considering I had let the broken mirror issue fester for about a month, I was not in much of a hurry. I asked if anyone would be in the shop for a few minutes and he said yes. I arrived roughly a half hour later, and sure enough he was there. The first thing I noticed about the actual store was that it was clearly a contractor's office, where the labor was being done. It's a small shop where everything is covered in dust (seriously everything), and is not designed to entice anyone into buying glass or a mirror. A couple was in there asking about getting a mirror installed in their home, so I had to wait for that conversation to finish before I got my sweet mirror. Timmy was very friendly and apologized for the wait. It took him about 3 minutes to find an appropriate-sized piece of glass, cut it to size, buff the edges, and pop it into the frame I brought with me. He charged me the quoted $40 and thanked me warmly for my business. The mirror looks great and I'm really happy that I went to Solo Glass. Bottom line: They clearly get most of their money and business from in-home contracting jobs and are not super great about getting back to customers over the phone, especially (I suspect) those with smaller jobs. In order to get the best service, I would recommend calling to make sure someone will be in, then going to the store in person. Timmy is very clearly a contractor and not a customer service rep; he is very nice and good at his job, but don't expect a sales-type conversation when you call or go in. If you're looking to support a local contractor and you can handle having to take the lead in communication, then these guys are a great choice for you. If you can't handle a little phone unreliability or if you need a sales person between you and your contractor, then you might want to go with a bigger (albeit possibly pricier) company. read more

I feel bad about the review by Christopher M. I'm sorry that he had such a bad experience with Solo. I actually had a great experience and want to throw my opinion onto The Yelp. I needed a glass tabletop cover for my dining room table due to the fact that my kitties were scratching the hell out of it whenever they jumped up and slid across. (I guess maybe the solution might have been to just train them not to do this, but really...who's going to do that?) Anyway, I googled "glass" in Brighton and Solo came up on Yelp. I recognized the picture right away because I drive past there all the time and always wondered what the deal was. "Who needs glass?" I'd ask myself every time I drove past. Well, now I finally understood the need. I read Amber H.'s review, so I knew I'd be talking to someone named Timmy. Sure enough, Timmy answered the phone. It was a Monday, and I happened to be taking a vacation day to get a bunch of stuff accomplished. Timmy was quite accommodating and drove straight over to my house to measure the table. He got to my house within 20 minutes of the call, performed a meticulous measurement of the table (which isn't just a normal rectangle - it has rounded edges and sides - which isn't an oval, but yet also isn't a rectangle. It's weird.) Anyway, Timmy was friendly and competent. I felt completely safe inviting him into my home. After the meticulous measurements, he told me he could probably get the work done in this same week. He also quoted me a price that was only slightly higher than the price he quoted me on the phone, mostly because of the curved nature of the table and the extra glass that would require and sales tax and all that. Only two days later, Timmy called me, excited to inform me that my table top was ready. I called him back on his cell phone and he delivered the table top that very evening. The quality of the work is wonderful. Despite the weird curved nature of my table, the glass fits perfectly! All in all, it was a great business transaction and I am completely pleased. I think that some of the issues with customer service that people have might be due to the fact that Timmy seems to be out and about a lot and perhaps there are not always people in the store who can answer the phone. If you want to do business with Solo, I'd suggest calling before going directly over to the store. If you get the voicemail, leave a message and he'll call you back. If you do business with him, he'll also give you his cell phone so you can reach him in case he's on a job. The point is, Solo Glass did a really great, fast and quality job for me and I'm really happy with it. read more

I've been a yelp mooch most of my adult life. Thousands of reviews read, none really delivered. Today I write my first review after a warming experience with a professional. Honest, high-quality work is all I ask for and Timmy truly delivered. I gave Timmy a call on the Saturday after Thanksgiving after searching Yelp for local glass experts. I was on my way to his workshop with a vinyl thermally insulated window with a cracked pane. I described the issue to Timmy on the phone and told him I was just around the corner. He agreed to take a look as the issue was right up his alley with his experience. Timmy gave me a quote on the spot and 1.5 hr estimated TTD. He was spot on with the estimate and gave me a "courtesy call" when he was finished. Timmy was very pleasant to work with and I was surprised by how quickly he turned the project around. read more

I woke up yesterday morning at 5am to a window in my apartment being shattered by a neighbor fighting with his girlfriend. After dealing with cops and insurance for the next couple of hours, all I wanted to do was have the window fixed so that I could take a nap. I called Timmy at 9 AM (based on his outstanding yelp reviews) and he was at my apartment by 11:30 taking measurements. He went back to his shop to get what he needed and came right back and got to work. My window was replaced and good to go by 3, all at a very reasonable price. Timmy even cleaned the new window and got rid of the broken glass from the shattered window as well. I rarely write reviews on Yelp, but I had to write this one. I could not be more pleased with the service Timmy provided, especially on such short notice! Timmy is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you will ever meet, and one of the hardest workers. This guy is a joke. I called Timmy in early February to do a custom order for a client's table. I work for a luxury retailer and thought -based off the reviews -that he'd be reliable and able to complete the task in a timely manner. Timmy doesn't understand the metric system so I had to coach him through the measurements(red flag). In addition, he did not respond when I texted him details. When I called him, he used every excuse in the book as to why he couldn't speak with me and provide an update on my order. Most recently, his excuse was that his truck broke down and then he hung up on me when I told him I didn't appreciate his customer service. There are plenty of other glass companies in the Boston area. Do yourself a favor and choose someone else. read more

I used Solo Glass to repair a large picture window in the back of my house. It was very large in size and needed to be special ordered. Timmy is a really nice guy who does quality work. The new window looks great. Unfortunately I can't bring myself to give more stars due to the lack of communication on their part. The first time I called I spoke to someone who told me he would be out the next day at 9am to take measurements. Well, by 10am I called the store number and got a cell number to try. Timmy answered and had no idea what appointment I was talking about. He then scheduled to come over that afternoon and did come to measure the window. He then made an appointment with me for 4 days later to come install the window. He did not show at the scheduled time and when I reached him by phone he said "oh, I meant to call you the piece is not in yet". We then rescheduled and unfortunately the exact same thing happened "oh, I meant to call you". After not hearing from him for 4 or 5 days I called and he said the piece was still not in. Finally 3 days later he called asking if he could come 2 days later to install the window. I know he was at the mercy of the glass company that the window was ordered from, but a courtesy call should be the first thing one does when they are not going to be able to make an appointment. I really wish the communication was better because I really think they do quality work and Timmy is definitely someone I would trust to do work in my home. read more

I decided to go to Solo Glass after reading reviews here on Yelp. I am working on a project in which I needed to cut two mirrors in the size of 8.5x11. There didn't seem to be many places where I could simply get some glass cut. It was pretty expensive to get this done online and Michaels quoted me for about 76 dollars a piece! I called Solo and a man named Timmy said that he could do it for about 15-20 dollars. I had called Solo Glass several weeks before I had actually come into the shop. The materials that I needed to bring in had not come in yet, but I was pleasantly surprised that he still remembered me when I called in to follow-up. Solo Glass has relocated to 145 North Beacon St., which is pretty much down the street from where it is originally located. The address is actually a storage warehouse and you have to ask the person at the front desk that you are looking for Solo Glass. Timmy was extremely courteous and apologetic about the inconvenience of the location switch (the rent drastically went up at his original place). Nonetheless, he got to cutting my glass immediately. He even asked me if I wanted to try to cut some sample glass, so there was a little fun in this experience! Anyway, it was quick and prompt service. It probably only took him about 10 minutes to do this, but the reason why it took a little longer than anticipated was because we had a nice conversation while he was working. We talked about the current events and shared some things about ourselves. Some of his glass work will be featured in a movie in the future. I bought some plexiglass for a thesis project and needed to be cut. Since Home Depot doesn't have free cutting service, I went to solo glass to see if they can help me. The owner was very nice and kind enough to cut the glasses for me with free of charge. I walked out in about an hour and half with 5 pieces of exact size and buffed plexiglass and happy. The owner told me to come down any time to the shop and he cut the glass right on the spot. Great, friendly service. I was second in line after a woman replacing a glass top table.
