I like Dr. Solow (the son); you may get a smile out of him here and there but he is not here for that! He is tightening those teeth. If you need sweet bedside manner, look for the hygienists for that. Dr. Solow is not going to sweet talk you or your kids, so cut it out. If you want to get the process done quick with maximum results, I highly recommend him. In addition, we have been for general dentistry at this location and at 6th and Chestnut location. It's ok. The waiting room is nice and clean. Plenty of games for the kids to be entertained while waiting. The staff is very nice and helpful. We are able to get early appointments so we can go before school. We haven't needed anything more then a checkup so not sure how the other procedures rate. The doctors are ok. Feels like they are kind of going thru the motions with patients. They give the kids prizes such as wall climbers which my son loves. I was a bit sad that the son doctor took care of my son this time and told him "Don't throw them on the wall or ceiling because they will stain". I told my son to stop but I probably should have said "Why give them to kids then". read more

This place is an absolute disgrace, very rude staff members, the girl who cleaned my son's teeth was very rough and aggressive. She also made a racial comment that I bought to the attention of the "so called" office manager and she seemed to brush me off like it was nothing. I was supposed to receive a phone call back from her and never did. My 2 son's and other family members will not be returning to this place!!!!!!!!!! I really wish I could give zero stars! read more

My daughter chipped her top front two teeth over the weekend and dr. Solow was able to repair and bond them on a Monday right after they opened. His staff was professional, efficient, empathetic, well equipped and polite. I'll happily go to them in the future. read more

I was a long time patient of Dr. Solow's. My parents took me there when I was about 5 year's old and I finally realized at the age of 22 that It was time to go to a General Dentist (Dr. Solow said I could keep coming back for my appointments for as long as I wanted to but I knew due to my age, It was better for my oral health). I loved going there when I was a kid because the back staff was very friendly and made you feel comfortable and would explain everything they were going to do. I now bring my 2 children there and they absolutely love it! It's so nice to see some of the staff who worked on me when I was a child, still work there now. They have his son Dr. Scott working there who is also very friendly and 2 female dentist's working there. My daughter saw Dr. Dana for her first exam and it helped her with her dental anxiety because having a friendly female dentist surely helped calm her nerves. If you're looking for a good Pediatric Dentist and Orthodontist, Dr. Solow is the right choice! read more

My children are almost out of braces now and at some point we will probably switch to a dentist closer to our house. Dr. Steven Solow and Dr. Scott Solow as well as their entire staff are doing a incredible job adjusting their facilities and practices to make it as safe as possible. You can tell as soon as you pull into the parking lot that they are prepared. The entire staff were all supplied with heavy duty PPE which I can assume wasn't cheap. Before you enter you are asked to answer questions and have your temperature taken to make sure that no one with Covid or Covid symptoms should endanger the other patients and staff. Another addition to their Covid adjustment practices was the outdoor, AIR CONDITIONED tent at which my daughter received hand sanitizer and mouthwash, she explained to me that even though she only sat in the outdoor chair for what had to be at most 2 minutes they still sanitized the entire thing when she was finished. When she was inside she told me that the chairs inside were all covered in plastic to prevent the attachment of germs. Dr. Solow also personally explained to me that they had invested in UV disinfecting technology throughout their building and other high end air purification technologies. Even throughout this new way of life everyone was so sweet to us. I cannot think of a way to run a business more responsibly. read more

Cross posting this at both of Dr. Solow's locations: Dr. Solow may be a brilliant dentist, but we never got a chance to find out. While examining our three year old daughter, he gave us a diagnosis that differed from two previous dentists' opinions. (Explanation: we moved from New York last year, so we had a dentist examine her both in NY and when we arrived in PA. The referral to Dr. Solow came about due to several cavities that were found.) When my wife asked a question about Dr. Solow's diagnosis, saying nothing more than, "Well, that's different from what my previous dentist said, and I'm not sure I want to have that done to her," he snapped at her and said he wouldn't treat our daughter. My wife asked a follow up question, which he answered, but he had snapped off his examination gloves and clearly and finally refused to treat my daughter. My wife left the office, angrily. Many times these are he said / she said conversations. You'll have to take our word - and look at the other review here - to know that this was just a shocking display of rudeness and a profound lack of professionalism. And it was all done in front of our daughter, who was visibly shaken when they returned from the office. She's three years old! These are challenging situations as a parent - you have some news about your child that differs from expectations, and getting some clarity is very important. To assume that even asking for clarity around the condition of your child is an affront to one's profession, or some kind of threat to being able to offer care to the child, is just astounding. read more

Dr. Steven Solow has been our pediatric dentist for over 11yrs now. One of our sons will be Turing 18yrs old and is disappointed that he has to change to an adult dental Dr. He states that even though Dr. Solow's sons followed in their father's steps, his favorite is still Senior Dr. Solow. Ha ha ha! I think it has something to do with the fact that we've been going to Dr. Solow since he was about 6yrs old. But be completely honest all the Dr's are amazing! They treat the kids so great and the dental hygienist and the rest of the staff are all great with the children. They make the environment so welcoming and comfortable for the kids that the kids aren't stressing about getting their teeth whatever it is they're getting done! We live 45mins away from his office and we still make the commute to the office because MY kids get EXCITED when I tell them they have a dentist appointment! If a kid gets excited to see the dentist, then the dentist is doing something right! read more

I got braces from him in August last year. He only put them on my top teeth even though I have seriously crooked teeth on the bottom. He charged my insurance for both the top and bottom so I can no longer use my insurance for corrective dentistry. He also charged my parents over $400 out of pocket even though the full cost was covered. He also said my braces would only be on for six months. They were on for much longer and when they were taken off, my teeth were not straight. He also filed my teeth without my consent. He shaved one so much that it is now slanted and chipped one of my canines. He has a terrible attitude and I would not reccommend him to anyone, ever. read more

My daughter had her very first dentist visit here and it was amazing for both of us! First, the office is perfect for a kid. It has an "adult" waiting room, and a small kid waiting room with video games. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, starting from the point of scheduling the appointment until your visit is finished. I got to sit pretty much right next to my daughter while she got her exam. Amy explained everything that was happening to make her more comfortable, in a very kid friendly type of way. My daughter got to pick out a movie on Netflix that she could watch while she got her teeth checked and once that was done she got a goodie bag with a brand new toothbrush inside (and stickers). The toothbrush wasn't at cheapie brush either, it lights up for the amount of time you should brush your teeth. The dental assistant (who could probably be a dentist), explained everything going on with her teeth, for example, how she would lose her baby teeth, when she thought that would happen, how she had no cavities but what they would look for if she did, why they want her to get a sealant when she is a little older. When they took her for the X-ray and came back and showed me the pics, they did a really good job, my daughter was happy. At the end she got tokens for the toy machines and got to choose two mini toys. I was educated on Flouride use, proper brushing, molars and more. I left feeling like a mom mini dental pro. The dentist did come in and go over everything again, but Amy was more than enough. Amy really has a way with kids that makes them comfortable and gives them confidence that everything is okay at the dentist. I highly recommend Dr Solow's office. Plus, when I raved on FB page, so many of my FB friends agreed, one even saying he had to make her stop coming to him because she got too old! Keep up the great work read more

This place is appalling. You can't be with your child (in my case, my 3-year-old), which is shady. When I did go back, I saw that it's basically a dental factory, with the doctor spending 5 seconds on my kid. I left feeling like my child had received awful care. The dentist never even looked at me, let alone introduced himself. The entire visit took 10 minutes, and I'm not exaggerating. Do your child a favor and go to a reputable family dentist, rather than this sloppy operation. read more

Don't go there. Dentist insists on being paid before insurance processing, and tries to overcharge you. In my case he wanted about $150 upfront, final bill came a about $40. Which meant that I have to chase him for a refund of $110. And that after never missing or being late on a payment. Most work is done not by the dentist, but by some other staff. Receptionists - rude. They'll threat you like an idiot, with a set of prepackaged lies. read more

I took my children (10 and 6) to this office for regular routine dental exams. They have been seeing a different dentist regularly since they were 2 but we had to switch due to a change in dental insurance. The waiting room was clean and receptionist seemed nice. We were taken back to a room that adjoined to 2 other rooms, I could basically hear everything that was going on in both rooms. One child was screaming, which sort of concerned my own children. I assured them she was ok and probably just scared. Meanwhile it went on for 45 min. She was being restrained and had nitrous oxide on, I only know this because I could see directly in the room every time the door was opened. This was extremely concerning to me as I would not want my children to be treated like this if they needed a cavity filled or any type of dental procedure. When the hygentist was cleaning my older son's teeth (which he brushes twice a day), she was scolding him for not brushing well. She was not positive at all with either of my kids. Neither had a cavity but neither the hygentist nor the dentist complimented them for this. Instead they focused on disciplining them for having a drop of tartar on their back teeth. The dentist, Dr. Scott, didn't even try to establish a repoire with my kids. His demeanor was as if he was just going through the motions. I honestly wouldn't recommend this practice nor will I be returning. read more

Took two of my children to Dr. Steven Solow's office on Walnut Street in Philadelphia and he found 14 cavities between the two of them. I was told our total out-of-pocket costs would be nearly $1,200 and we would need multiple visits to fix their teeth. So I took the children to another dentist for a second opinion - this one found only 3 cavities between the two of them and this time out-of-pocket costs would be under $300. Needless to say, we no longer go to Dr. Solow's office. Also Dr. Solow's services are expensive: he charges "Behavior Management" fees that are not covered by the insurance companies and he no longer does silver fillings in his Walnut street office, so even temporary back teeth get filled with resin, which is also not covered by many insurance companies. Needless to say - it gets expensive to fix baby teeth in there. read more

We received a recommendation from a friend for this dentist, but will not be returning. The waiting space and receptionist were sufficient. They do have some books for children to read while they wait, about 3 books in total that we found, and a few video games appropriate for older children, so I would definitely recommend that parents bring their own entertainment for young children. The checkup/cleaning were brief, about 5-10 minutes in total for each child. I had gone back with my children, and my older son politely let the hygienist know that he felt like he couldn't breathe during his cleaning, and asked to have a minute between cleaning his top teeth and his bottom teeth. She just tapped his nose and told him to breathe that way and continued. Then he asked if he could just have a minute to think, and she again refused. He tried to pull the tooth brush out of his mouth at that point, and she reproached him for "grabbing" and told him to keep his hands down and never touch her tools. I let her know that I thought it was reasonable to give him a minute to think/breathe, and that he had pulled it from his mouth because he had very nicely asked two times if she could stop and been denied. The hygienist insisted that she was almost done and ignored both of our requests. We then saw the dentist for under 30 seconds each child, and he was polite and kind toward the children in our experience. My feeling was that the office was possibly understaffed or over capacity with their dental clients, and unable to give each dental exam the appropriate amount of time. I was disappointed in the demeanor of the associates' behavior toward children. The dental area is open, so that you can see and hear into other offices with different children having teeth cleanings, and I could hear other children being treated as mine were - seemingly efficient cleanings but with a dismissive air toward the children's feelings and concerns. read more

I wish I had paid attention to all of these negative reviews before I brought my children to this dentist office. I am writing this review as a WARNING to other parents not to bring their children here. Dr. Solow seems like a knowledgeable enough dentist/orthodontist, but he moved forward on my child's orthodontic treatment without my consent while I was in the hallway getting a very confusing price estimate from his receptionist. This is a minor problem compared to the BULLYING, PHYSICALLY ABUSIVE behavior of his staff. Two of Dr. Solow's hygienists mistreated my thirteen-year-old son in absolutely inexcusable ways. The first hygienist didn't communicate with him at all, and after fumbling with many failed attempts to put spacers between his teeth, she called for help from another hygienist who was even more rude, unkind, and physically abusive. These two hygienists proceeded to gang up on him, talk about him as if he was not there, and ignore him when he asked them to stop. My 15-year-old daughter had just had her teeth cleaned and was there to witness all of this. When she spoke up on behalf of her brother, asking them to listen to him while they had him pinned down in the chair, she was told she had no right to tell them what to do. I can't believe I was on the other side of the door while all of this was happening. When I returned to the treatment area, I saw a look of rage in my son's eyes that I had never seen before. My daughter calmly explained to me how the hygienists had mistreated her brother, while they both tried to cover it up saying they just wanted to "get the torture over with." Was this supposed to make me (or him) feel better? When I got home, I called the office and talked directly with Dr. Solow. He apologized immediately and asked me to repeat what had happened so he could repeat it out loud so the people involved could hear what my complaint was. I'm a forgiving person and appreciate a genuine apology, but this seemed a bit contrived--or perhaps it's a common occurrence. He didn't seem shocked or appalled by what I said. I have taught my children to be respectful of all people. What we experienced at this dentist office was total disrespect. I'm so glad my daughter spoke up for her brother, but I feel terrible for entrusting my children to people who clearly don't understand the basic trust and respect that must exist between a healthcare provider and a patient. Just because they have murals on the walls and cartoons on the television does not make them the "child friendly" practice they claim to be. In the future, I plan to bring my children to an excellent dentist I recently saw in Havertown, Dr. Petras. I imagine she'll be great with people of all ages because she understands the importance of treating her patients with kindness, gentleness, and respect. And for my son's braces, I was happy to find Faust Orthodontics. I'm glad I learned how awful Dr. Solow's practice is before I gave them $5400 for braces. My son asked me to write this review so other kids won't have to go through what he did. I'm so sorry I didn't pay attention to the many bad reviews that preceded mine. read more
