The highlight of our dining experience this time was our wonderful waitress Lauren. She was the perfect blend of professionalism, sweetness, fun and charm. We truly enjoyed her. It was almost as if a daughter or niece was waiting on us, with great care, professionalism & all the comfortable warmth. The food was delicious, as usual. The restaurant has an elegant old charm to it, that will make any date super romantic. The timing between sitting, ordering, appetizers arriving and then entrees was impeccable. The wall beside the wardrobe was only a few inches wide, and I assumed it wouldn't be worth wallpapering. They said it would look odd if we left it painted, so they fitted a narrow piece there. It's not something you'd notice immediately, but it makes the whole wall look more complete read more

The server was very good. The pesto risotto with the scallop special was just warm and not hot. The server brought my wife a new risotto, but it was mushroom versus pesto and that clashed with her scallop dish. Because of that I would give them a 4 out of five. We've been here twice for brunch now, and each visit has been excellent. The buffet selection is outstanding, with so many delicious options that everyone in our group found something they loved. You can tell the chef puts a lot of care into the food, because everything tastes fresh and well prepared. read more

I went to Soma Grille because I had one of those restaurant.com certificates? On a Friday. Fun fact and perhaps important to some - they're only good like Tuesday -Thursday. Read ALL the fine print. Also, it's part of a hotel. So you walk into the hotel lobby, and the hostess is in the bar. Not sure who the people on the front porch were, hotel or restaurant. They seemed to be having a fine time though, the building is on a lovely hill. You want even drive under the front arch, very classic. Bathrooms were a little snug, I went into one shaped like a triangle and if your bathroom isn't an adventure, what are you? Also, dining room is a little small but I didn't feel on top of anyone else or could make out conversations without effort. Loved the caser salad, and the cooked cheese slice on top. It was well dressed, although my fork did chase a few croutons. Loved the burger, it looked like a picture with all the sides fresh and vibrant! read more

This restaurant is located in an adorable, historic building which is currently a hotel. The ambiance is nice and sophisticated. We started the night off with the empanad appetizer. It was ok. For entrees my husband got the steak which was good, while I got the braised short rib which was AMAZINGGGGG. The best! Definitely a must try! Afterwards we ended the night with coffee and dessert. I decided to try Soma Grill I heard so many nice things about it. We went to happy hour on Friday. They have a very nice happy hour menu. We had buffalo cauliflower it was very Tasty but small portion 3 small pieces. For dinner we decided to have the Pappardelle Bolognese it was delicious very creamy with fresh pasta a must have. My husband had Stuffed Sole with crab meat that was outstanding . The staff were professional and friendly. I had a reservation for a week and a half at your restaurant a few weeks back. I requested your porch seating. I was told I was all set with that request. The day before I received a text notification to confirm my reservation and I confirmed it. 2 hours before coming to dinner I received a call from your staff telling me that my partyhad to be moved to another table, either lawn seating or inside due to a party of 20, I'm sure was last minute, that you wanted to accommodate. I was applauded that your business would bump my party to accommodate a last minute reservation attempt. In all my years dining at establishments such as your, that has NEVER happened to me. It was an important evening with a client that I had raved about your restaurant due to my last experience coming there for a celebration. You can imagine my embarrassment in telling them our special seating was being relocated at your restaurant and for why. For that reason I rate you a 1 experience, perhaps won't ever be back or recommend it to anyone. read more

The buffets are phenomenal. Chef creates a multitude of delicious selections. The staff is so pleasant and helpful. Our first visit we noticed stairs up and down to the buffet. With an elderly person in our party, we asked if we could be put on same level as buffet. They accommodated us and within 15 min we had a perfect table. Great atmosphere in the restaurant, good food, wonderful and understanding staff; how could you go wrong? We've attended 2 brunches so far and taking my mother in law for Mother's day! read more

Let me start by saying I randomly chose this restaurant for its Easter brunch menu, after searching social media (because I knew my children would eat plain pancakes and plain waffles galore). We've never gone out for an Easter meal but after a horrible 2024, I wanted to start a new tradition. The restaurant itself is quaint and pretty. The seating is tight though. And the buffet was...downstairs. This didn't wind up being as challenging as anticipated. The food was...terrible. Pancakes and waffles were cold and hard. I asked them to heat the kids' plates but it almost made the food harder. The pasta options were dry (and my daughter pulled a dark hair from her ziti). The beef was cooked perfectly but lacked any flavor. I managed some salad. My daughter had a cupcake and I got her a Happy Meal on the way home. Cooking buffet-style is difficult (our extended family owns several restaurants, one with a banquet facility). I will steer clear of this stop for any type of buffet. I hope their regular meal service is better (the menu looks lovely). The highlight was Ali, our server. She was delightful. I asked to see the check before paying because I wanted to make sure my son was charged as a child (he is a giant for his age and would have crushed many waffles and pancakes but had a single plate). read more

We had a really great time at soma grille! We started off with calamari apps, duck breast, roasted half chicken, and ended the evening with cheesecake and creme brulee. There was some light live music going on at the bar. We had made a reservation and was seated right away. I would pass on the calamari next time to try a different app, but it did seem very popular. The breading could be crispier and seasoned more. The duck breast with bok choy was cooked perfected. The breast was juicy and tender. The cherry added a sweet and tart pop to the risotto. The roasted half chicken was juicy and vegetables were roasted well. The cheesecake had just the right texture and creme brulee was as expected. It was nice and thin to add that extra sugary crisp. read more

Went for v-day and was stunned with 3 main entrees being sold out! You would think with a full reservation system, they would plan appropriately and have enough food on hand. I'm cool selling out on a random Tuesday but how do you not order extra food for V-day. I was also underwhelmed by the few drinks we ordered. It was my first time there and would love to go back but pretty bad experience on what should have been a very special night. They did comp a desert but was already pretty upset with the 3 main dishes (vday pasta, scallops and filet) being unavailable. The tuna tartar was amazing and the shrimp was pretty good as well. Everything was over cooked. The fried egg was like a hard boiled egg on my club sandwich. The steak was dry. The duck was over cooked and a small portion for the price. The risotto was mushy. The only thing that was cooked properly were the fries which aren't even fries, they're wedges. The server didn't know what was in the dessert drinks. There was a camera perched on top of a crooked painting trained on us which made us uncomfortable during our dinner. Very disappointing since they made everything on the menu sound good and not one thing was executed properly. read more

We hosted a party at the 1820 House through the Soma Grille. Carlos and his staff were amazing. They were so incredibly gracious as it was a memorial service and we did not have a sense of how many people would show they were so professional and easy to work with. The food was spectacular - elevated and delicious. Carlos treated us so well during a difficult time. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone considering having an event with Soma to do it! read more

I went for Sunday brunch for Easter ($40) and was overall disappointed. The website online says "Bloody Mary bar" which in my opinion indicates a build your own option, but really it was just a complimentary bloody (made very well, however). Upon entering, nobody gave any information about the buffet and I had to explicitly ask where the food was (downstairs apparently). The food was simply not good - I tried small portions of just about everything and everything was around a 3 out of 10. Pasta had no flavor, bagels were pathetic, pastries were clearly not homemade. The chicken was soooo dry and even the carving station managed to miss the mark (I've never met an Easter ham I didn't like until now). The milkshake bar was a kid high out of his mind blending straight milk (seriously, there was no ice cream in this thing). If the quality of the food on Easter was any reflection of how this place operates normally, I'd say it's a hard skip unfortunately. Given the excellent Bloody Mary and the cool homey vibes I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1, but would not return. read more

Service was slow. Waited 45 minutes for main meal. Reason? There was an "event" going on. So Soma Grill has to make a decision. If there is an event, they need more staff. Food was 3+. Mussels were small but scallops were good. Word to the wise. Don't go when there is an "event". read more

We had a wonderful evening at Soma Grille, celebrating my wife's birthday. We started with happy hour and enjoyed the magnificent weather on the outside patio. Allie was busy tending to the bar crowd, but found the time to come outside and provide outstanding service. The garlic shrimp on the HH menu was fantastic. All of the food we ordered was delicious - beet salad, scallops, club sandwich and finally the pistachio cake which was amazing. We came here for Sunday brunch. We choose to sit inside due to it being muggy outside. There was plenty of seating available. We were seated in the library area near the bar. I never saw the regular menu so can not speak to what else was available. The food served for brunch was located downstairs which can be an issue if you have mobility issues. The restaurant is in an inn so not sure if there was an elevator. The food was okay. Pastries were not home made and were the standard danishes and mini muffins. There was a variety of breakfast items and some lunch items( salad bar, pasta,meatballs, desserts and carving station). We did opt to also get an omelette which is made to order with plenty add in options. Brunch also comes with 1 alcoholic drink -either a bloody mary or mimosa. The coffee bar is also downstairs so could be a problem if you have mobility issues. Our server was nice and attentive even though it was clear they she had a post wedding party to attend to as well. We may try to give it another try but not for brunch. read more

Phase I of the reopening of Connecticut was effective as of May 20. That included outdoor dining at restaurants with specific controls on seating, social distancing, and health safeguards. So for our anniversary dinner, we were very happy to be able to celebrate it at an outdoor table on the grassy space between the Soma Grille and Hopmeadow Street. It was our first on-site restaurant meal since the Pandemic. Soma had seating on their side porch and adjacent areas, but we wanted to grab one of the 8 umbrella tables facing the street because we saw that live music was on the menu. Our masked server was very pleasant, and we started our celebratory meal with two cocktails- an Aperol Spritz ($10) and a Pomegranate Mojito ($11). The drinks were scored high in the size and potency departments. Our appetizers were Garlic Shrimp ($10) and a Shrimp and Scallop Lettuce Cup ($8). The Garlic shrimp was great- three big breaded and sautéed shrimp served greens and yucca fry spears. We both had the same entrée - a Shrimp Po Boy ($10) with plenty of fried shrimp, chipotle sauce, scallions, lettuce, tomato, and Manchego cheese served on a baguette with fries. It was an excellent value with big portions of fried shrimp and very good French Fries. The food was served on disposable plates accompanied by disposable silverware. Desserts to go were very good too -slices of NY Cheesecake and Chocolate Mousse Cake at $7 each. Our dinner of two cocktails, two appetizers, two sandwiches, and two desserts totaled $78.38 before tip - not too bad at all. To make the evening even better was the LIVE MUSIC. Gotta give a shout out to guitarist-vocalist John Mayock who kept the mood chill and mellow with some great renditions of tunes by Buddy Holly and Bob Dylan. I'm at the bar and writing this post. Check my previous posts and you will see that I've never written a bad review. Across the bar is the manager and a few wait staff in uniform- drinking. They are taste testing their menu items - at the bar where the costumers are and they are loudly saying what is good and what is bad. I'm all for ensuring your food is prepared and cooked properly, however a professional restaurant knows that you do that behind the scenes. What does it say about this team that they don't care that what they think isn't right is still on the menu and the customers are being served it. This used to be one of our go to places up to a month ago. The music was great and Aiden was very tentative. The pasta for the lobster ravioli was under cooked. The burger was good. My issue here is the unprofessionalism of the manager. read more

Such a let down. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised with the live music and ambiance. Until we were seated- my wife was able to view the windows and my view- case of water, microwave, computer and printer. Service at our table started quickly. Appetizers were fine then salads came, all good. When our dinners arrived to the table the were dropped off. No waitress no forks or knives. My wife had to get up to go find our waitress. My wife's chicken and root vegetables were cold and dry. My short rib was nothing but a piece of fat. Yes short ribs have fat but not a piece of edible meat to be found. Certainly not a restaurant quality cut of meat Mashed potatoes were cold and hard. Not much good to say, very disappointing. I really hope you can address the issues that we encountered because it is a beautiful building with so much potential. read more

This was a super cute restaurant. It's very cozy on the inside. They have a great menu and wine list. I ordered the beet salad and added salmon to it. I also got the ahi tuna appetizer. Everything was delicious and our server was great. I will be back again to try something else and especially their beautiful desserts! read more
