We went back to Abigail's on a beautiful Sunday at noon to celebrate Mother's Day! Fortunately, the weather cooperated so we had an opportunity to sit outside in gorgeous weather and enjoy each other's company and wonderful food and great service. I had the scallops with risotto which were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Hats off to anyone who can cook a risotto well and they do it perfectly. I started with clam chowder that while could've been a little hotter, was thick and delicious. Other people in the party had eggplant Parmesan, which reportedly was terrific, chicken Parmesan that was cooked beautifully with lots of grilled chicken a lovely marinara that was topped with lots of cheese and spiced. The ancient grain risotto was again fantastic, and anyone who can cook a risotto well deserves kudos. The dessert I had the strawberry shortcake that wasn't too sweet and had a beautiful flavor of fresh strawberries throughout with lots of whipped cream. The Keylime pie was tart and delicious. The Brooklyn layered chocolate cake was tremendous layers of cake and frosting. It was just a perfect rendition of a chocolate cake. Last but not least was the coconut cake which rivals my favorite coconut cake in the world from Max A Mia. The Abigail's version was a bit lighter, but equally as delicious with coconut frosting that really hit the spot and is worth the trip back. I recently enjoyed a quiet Sunday dinner at Abigail's with my parents. My brother and sister in law and I had just discussed that Abigail's had stated to lose our interest lately.. never changing menu and usually no specials (however we all agreed that we still truly enjoyed brunch there)... and then Sunday dinner happened and i was again drawn into the restaurant's historical charm and beauty (truly Abigail's, the Soma Grill and The North House in Avon are among my favorites for atmosphere.. i do love Milwright's but the prices and portions are so ridiculous I refuse to go there). I ordered Lou's rigatoni and was extremely happy with this dish. My mother ordered the shrimp fettuccini but with rigatoni and was also very happy. It had an impressive amount of shrimp in it. My father ordered the roasted chicken dinner, and while he did enjoy it, he was disappointed in the portion size. I have to agree with him, they must've have used very young chickens this time. That all said, our waitress was amazing (I'm so sad I forgot her name, because I would definitely ask for her in the future). We were seated in the older are of the restaurant, in the front room with the windows and it was beautifully decorated with a few small Christmas trees . A side note I was told Abigail's had a very nice happy hour upstairs (love that historic & charming area of the restaurant), 3-6pm.. i don't remember the days, i think Wednesdays through Saturday? And my parents told me you can get their amazing burgers for $7, which is a huge savings. I hope Abigail's continues to offers specials for those of us who live locally and usually are regulars. I'm going to continue to patronize Abigail's ~ I've been coming here since I was a child so it holds may feel good memories for me. Came here for dinner on Friday at Connecticut's oldest & haunted restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you are teleported to the old days with the old-fashioned ambiance. The place was busy the whole time we were there, so I highly recommend making a reservation. Amazing service and delicious food! We dined on the outdoor patio. The food was fresh and came out fast. Rigatoni a'la Toro was tasty. Others had something else I had no interest in to remember the name. Their menu offers a variety of choices, including options that are gluten free, dairy free, and soy free. The women's restroom on the second floor was originally Abigail's bedroom. Heard it's haunted after 10pm by Abigail, the original tavern owner's wife who was murdered, haunts the place, but we didn't see any paranormal activities or ghosts. I love the historical charm of Abigail's and the story behind the restaurant. According to legend, Abigail still haunts her old house. From time to time, servers share stories about setting up a room the night before, only to return the next day and find everything rearranged. There have even been sightings of Abigail herself walking through the restaurant. The history says she was beheaded by her husband when he returned home early from a voyage at sea and caught her with her boyfriend. Abigail's also holds a special place in my heart, as we had our rehearsal dinner here and returned for brunch after our wedding. It has never failed to disappoint. The food is consistently excellent, and the service is always top-notch. On our most recent visit, we had a party of eight and were seated upstairs, which was perfect for privacy. Once our husbands get together, things can get a bit loud, so the privacy was much appreciated. We started with mussels, calamari and oysters Rockefeller. The calamari stood out for me-olive oil, lemon, kalamata olives and peppers gave it great flavor. I ordered the blackened sea bass special with risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly and delicious, though I would've liked a bit more char. One thing to note: the dish came with shrimp, which wasn't listed- fine for me, but important for those with allergies. Other dishes included bolognese, seafood fra diavolo and steaks, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. Drinks were excellent, with great wine selection. Our server was fantastic- attentive, very patient and good-natured, even with all the jokes and antics. Overall, it was an excellent evening and a place we always look forward to returning to. This was a tavern that had a large contemporary American menu. There was a lot to choose from. There were also two bars on both levels with plenty of seating at both. The service was well appreciated as one of our guests was a little difficult, but she took it in stride. The food also came out promptly. For appetizers, the Grande 2 seafood tower ($27) and crispy chicken wings ($16) were ordered. The seafood tower came with two colossal shrimp, two oysters, two clams, and lump crab meat. I was able to have the oyster, clam, and crabmeat. The oyster was good and appeared fresh as did the crabmeat. The clam was just okay, something about it. The wings came with a classic Buffalo sauce. I believe there were six to an order with considerable size to them. They were of good quality and cooked great. The sauce was tasty, but just not spicy enough. For an entrée, I had the redfish nouvelle ($29). It was lightly blackened topped with shrimp, scallops, mornay sauce, and baby spinach. There was also a side of house rice and coleslaw. This was nicely put together. The fish was seasoned appropriately as well as being a nice portion. The sauce was pleasant and not overdone, while the rice and coleslaw were nice compliments. It did not hurt to have a few pieces of the shrimp and scallops either. I also tried a piece of filet, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For dessert, the vanilla bean crème Brulee ($11) and chocolate croissant bread pudding ($11) were tried. The crème Brulee was great, light and not overly sweet with a hint of vanilla. The bread pudding came with vanilla ice cream. This was very good and unique with the croissant being used. I liked the flakiness of it, and it went nicely with the cool ice cream. I went there because I saw they had a great three course brunch menu which includes a breakfast cocktail, one breakfast entrée and also dessert for 25.95. There was a little bit of a wait in a Sunday afternoon so I suggest making a reservation or going a little later. The service was good and the food was good as well. I had the organic eggs scrambled with bacon, potatoes and toast. The potatoes had peppers and onions and were seasoned which I enjoyed. It was a very relaxing and cozy experience. This cute little restaurant is right in Simsbury. There were multiple fire places going for a cozy feel. We sat at the bar, which seats maybe 10. There were seasonal and regular drink options, as well as cocktails. I had the zero proof raspberry margarita. The bartender was lovely with the cutest Australian (?) accent. The menu offers many options, as well as a pre fixe lunch. I opted for the California club, which had real slices of roasted turkey. My lunchmate had the chicken salad croissant. The good was we had a great bartender from England that was so sweet and efficient. The bad, the happy hour food. When you go to happy hour at a nice restaurant, you are supposed to receive the same quality food, maybe in smaller portions or certain things that they can afford to give away at a cheaper price to entice you. You are not supposed to receive bottom of the barrel food. The burger was obviously a frozen patty that was of low quality. The only thing good about it was the sear on the outside, the roll was even close to being stale. The chicken tenders with buffalo sauce were very thin and obviously taking right from the freezer and heated up. Very disappointed. We had a lovely dinner here as guests of some cousins we were visiting. They like this place a lot and we have to agree, we did too. The food and wine were excellent. The historic site was quaint and crowded. It a very popular place locally to celebrate with friends. Be sure to get a reservation well in advance. It was a summer weekend with hundreds of cars in the lot. Be prepared to walk some distance across the private lot though there were handicap spaces near the entrance. We were seated almost immediately and given options, with or without stairs. We took the "no stairs " option so I did not see the rooms up them. The downstairs dining was tight but pretty and comfortable. I would make that choice again if we visit another time. It's a long trip to the Hartford area from Colorado but for family events, I will do it anytime I can. We started with wine and bread. I got my favorite white, Sauvignon blanc, the rest of the group, their red, a nice Malbec. The fresh baked bread and seasoned oil was quite good. One mishap occurred when a member of our party, knocked over his water glass. We asked for help, but in the tight corner we were seated, the server had a hard time rounding up the ice cubes and wet napkins easily. Replacements were slow to come. The utensil inside the still wrapped napkins were gone too but were replaced with only napkins. An oversight on both their part as well as ours, at first. We did eventually get everything we needed, the only blip in the evening. Our hosts knew the menu well and decided immediately on the lobster pasta. My husband jumped in too. I spent some time with the menu and decided on the salmon filet on season farro with small roasted brussels sprouts. It was perfect for me. We had key lime tart for dessert. Even though it was super busy, we were lucky to grab a spot at the bar. The drinks were fantastic, and I tried the Gluten-Free Bolognese pasta, which was excellent! A heads-up for those with dietary restrictions: while the menu isn't labeled with gluten-free items, they do offer GF pasta and pizza. Recently went to Abigail's for a private party for my godmother who is a regular there. It was so nice to have the entire upstairs for just our group to socialize, mingle, and celebrate my godmother's birthday. Ashley and Ryan were our bartenders, Alex was there for a while too. They made it such a great day for everyone in our party, they kept our drink glasses full, and served our food promptly. This is a great location for a private party, and the service was top-notch. The food was excellent - we had our choice of filet mignon and salmon, which were so tender and delicious, and chicken (I didn't try it but people said it was great), tiramisu, and apple strudel for dessert. The apple strudel was a little dry, but the tiramisu was on point. We went to Abigail's with some of my godmother's friends, a couple nights before the party, and had pepperoni pizza, a couple of drinks, and it was excellent. Whether for a more formal occasion or a laid-back Friday night dinner, this is such a great restaurant. The sheer number of locals who were at the party tells me that this is one of the best spots in Simsbury and it's easy to see why. First of all, walking up to this old tavern felt so nostalgic, seeing all of the beauty and feeling the history from the many many years before us. An old friend of mine, and I decided to meet up here for lunch. The vibe of the place told me I made a great decision with my suggestion we meet here We were greeted warmly by the two hostesses at the door, and promptly seated, even though it was very, very busy. Once seated, ice water, along with some amazing small rolls with butter on the bottom of the plate melted arrived at the table. This was a great touch. Our server greeted us, and was so knowledgeable and welcoming to the restaurant. It seemed like he was so proud to be working there. More on him later. My friend and I both decided on the price fix menu, which was $23. This included a soup appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. Somehow, we both ended up ordering the same items! This was kind of weird but OK We had this creamy New England clam chowder with a smoky flavor that was so delicious and it was like I never tasted anything like this before. The chowder was so delectable, loaded with minced clams and potatoes, I could've made a meal of just this. The entrée arrived, and I ordered a baked fish, I think it was haddock, and it was accompanied by some really creamy delicious, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw, the fish arrived with breadcrumbs on top. While this was absolutely delicious, I noticed there was no color on the plate. White coleslaw, white fish, white mashed potatoes. It would've been nice if maybe a sautéed asparagus was on the plate instead of the coleslaw. But anyways, all three were delicious. And the final presentation, which I would rate amazing was a creamy cheesecake, which was in like a brown sugary type crust. On the side and drizzled on top was a raspberry purée, along with look like homemade whipped cream. This just hit the spot. If I could, I think I would come here just for the cheesecake and the coffee.. Our server was so attentive, witty, and knowledgeable. This was some of the best service I've ever had in a restaurant for as long as I could remember. Does this place deserve five stars? Absolutely!. I need to come back here again, and soon! I thought the prices were reasonable, and the quality of food was just off the charts in a positive way. If you are anywhere in Connecticut, and within driving distance to Abigail's, this would be an amazing, awesome and appreciative choice for you and your guests to experience I would've snapped tons of pictures, but I left the Camera phone in the car! I've dinner at Abigail's several times and based on the last 2 experiences, I don't think I will return. This time the service was terrible. It took 40 minutes to get our beverages, water, lemonade and a soda, so not difficult. The main meal was good but again the service was not the standard we expect. We never had our water refilled and when we asked our waitress if it was a busy time, she said no, it was a normal evening. So next time, I think we will skip going to Abigail's. read more

I popped into CT for a few days and ordered from one of my favorite restaurants. Staying in a really nice hotel my son and I really wanted to eat in our room and watch movies. When I ordered I specifically asked that my pork chop Gorgonzola be cooked well done. I don't take chances with pork. My son's pork chop was medium well. I also asked that they not put the sauces inside the containers pressed into the food. I asked could they be place them outside the containers. Unfortunately, My request were ignored. Luckily my son got his pork chop perfectly cooked the way he wanted, but I got the absolute opposite of what I wanted. My pork chop was completely rare inside. It was cooked less than my sons!! Also, the sauces were put inside the container. They touch the little containers with their fingers and then they press them in the Gorgonzola cheese that is on top of the pork chop. They also put the Hollandaise container on top of my asparagus! It's absolutely unsanitary and annoying to have my asparagus smooched and an imprint is in my cheese; especially when I asked them not to do that. I asked the hostess who took my order to please emphasize that for me, and she agreed that wasn't cool and she would let them know. I ended up having to microwave my pork chop to eat it. The charcuterie was lackluster (four crackers, seriously?). Both my date and I ordered filet medium rare. Despite ordering the same temp, one came out a perfect mid-rare, the other very rare. The worst crime was the lack of seasoning. No one likes a bland steak. Dessert was above average. Additionally, food was not hot, green beans and potatoes were warm at best. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant but we were seated, 30 minutes after our reservation time and stood in the small, crowded and cold entryway as more guests came in and joined the backed up crowd. Atmosphere from the outside looking in provided, a lit up quaint vibe on this autumn evening, but the crowded parking lot was not well lit including walking paths. Also the portion size of the salad was smaller than anywhere else I've ever been. Server forgot to bring us bread. He also never once smiled and barely ever came to our table. Upscale American restaurant inside of a large beautiful house, but it is very underwhelming. As I mentioned above the place is very large, but they try to squeeze as many people into the space as possible and the tables are very close together. Additionally the food is very expensive and not that high quality. I came with my GF for dinner. -We started our meal off with their complimentary bread and olive oil. The bread tasted as if it was slightly stale, and it looked ridiculous giving us only 2 pieces. -For an entree I got the red fish and she got the tuna. Very good happy hour specials with inexpensive food options. I was pleasantly surprised with the quesadilla although I thought that it could have had a better ratio of cheese to beans. For $5 though it's tough to complain. The Buffalo tenders were also good. Drinks were delish - very good espresso martini. The drinks are pricey for the area but 30% off during happy hour which makes them much more reasonable. I also like how it's 30% off everything from the bar as opposed to just a list of happy hour cocktails. I wish they had a healthier option for food on the happy hour menu since everything was like "nachos" or "chicken tenders". With that said, beggars can't be choosers I suppose. This was once a very nice restaurant with excellent customer service. No more. Our family went for dinner on a Sunday. Three people shared a pizza which was good. I had the price fix menu. $35 for entree, salad and desert. $40 for entree, salad, desert and appetizer. However, it was not really clear that the appetizer and salad were different choices. We asked if we could substitute a Caesar salad (which was the price fix salad) for the dessert. NO. No discussion. Even thought there is nothing in the Caesar salad except lettuce, premade dressing and a few slivers of cheese while the slice of cake was the size of two shoes. When the bill came I asked why there was a $5 additional charge for the appetizer. The waitress was unable to explain it so I asked for the manage. Her answer was, "well it is confusing but it's either a salad or an appetizer. I'm sorry. Can I give you a salad to go home"? I'm done eating, why would I want more food now that I am done eating. I asked why the waitress didn't point out that I was going to be paying $40 instead of $35 so why not order a salad. then I would have realized my error and made an adjustment. No discussion, no flexibility. They were going to get their $5.00 come hell or high water. Seems to me to be a pretty poor decision to keep $5.00 and generate incredible ill will. It's not the $5.00. It's the principal behind it and the complete lack of flexibility. If you going to go here READ CAREFULLY!!!! $5 makes all the difference in the world to Abigales. read more

Stopped in at an off time for lunch and it was quite busy but we still managed to get a table. This restaurant is in a beautiful old colonial with different seating areas and a bar. We each got our own appetizers that everyone enjoyed and the complimentary bread was fresh and delicious. Our entrees were equally as enjoyable! We went for Mothers Day, party of 7. They took my credit card and explained I would be charged a couple hundred bucks if we didnt show. I wish I had asked Abigails for their credit card if they did not deliver as expected, because unfortunately they did not. The only offering on Mothers Day was a $69 price fix, ($29 for kids) with a soup, entree and piece of cake, which is fine, but I did not expect at their rate per plate to see frozen vegetables (peas and carrots) , embarassingly small portions, thin, mediocre grilled "lamb," a tiny sliver of "redfish" (if you say so) slathered in cream of something soup and uncooked lumps (of flour?) in the chowder. read more

Stopped into Abigail's for a quick lunch while traveling. I ordered a black angus burger that was really done perfectly, cooked well and nice toppings. Only criticism was that the fries were very lackluster and tasted similar to what you'd get ordering pizza delivery. Definitely frozen processed fries, and not a lot of them. Still happy with the quality and price of my burger though. I really wanted to try the fresh raw bar, but $3-4 each is a little steep for my taste. Here in RI we can get fresh oysters for just $1 or maybe $1.50, but I think at Abigail's people may be dining here for the upscale experience. My mom ordered a Cesar salad with seared scallops that looked nice. Simple, but fresh and flavorful. She did ask for scallops on the side, which never happened, but didn't seem to be a dealbreaker. Overall we had a fine lunch. Abigail's is a little upscale if you have a more casual preference, but for a quick lunch stop or a special dinner occasion it seems like a good choice. Since our children live locally, we have dined at Abigail's as a family numerous times. Unlike other occasions this Mother's Day meal was a disaster! We were a large party dining, if you can call it that, on their prix fixe dinners @ $69.95. The chef should have been embarrassed to put the small amount of salmon on the plate that was presented. Since we were seated after 5pm, supply was apparently low and it would have been appreciated and more honest to admit you had run out of salmon. The creamed soup a few had was an unpleasant lumpy concoction. Along with my lamb dish, an overcooked, mushy ratatouille was served, lots of it. Nothing like getting an over abundance of bad food. The roast lamb was never roasted but appeared as thin slices since the meat was seared with grill marks. What their menu referred to as strawberry shortcake was closer to pound cake smeared with strawberry purée in between slices and topped with a clump of cream. Strawberries are plentiful and inexpensive this time of year so it's not unreasonable to expect to see several plump red strawberries in the desert rather than a pinkish strawberry mush. Passing Mizu 21 on drive home we were sorry not to have made reservations there since their parking lot was jam packed. Lesson learned, albeit an expensive one. read more
