Life's had me needing a massage for a while now but I wasn't sure where to go. Sure there are alot of therepist in the area but being short on time & money, I really wanted to make sure that wherever I went would be worth it. So I set out in search of an affordable place that was comfortable & relaxing but also seemed down to earth. I took a shot and booked an appointment with Dawn and couldn't be happier with the results! Let me start off my saying, I love how easy scheduling my appointment was. I can be antisocial at times so I appreciate being able to schedule stuff online. As for the appointment, it was great! Everything you'd expect it to be. Dawn was awesome. She made me feel super comfortable & informed. I sometimes struggle to relax during a massage, wondering "should I talk? Should I not? Am I being akward?" Awen is a soothing and quiet massage studio located in a small office park (collection of building with small businesses). There is a little fountain, relaxing music and aromatic oils in the air as you enter. Ashley is a one-woman show and does the checking-in, paperwork , and massages. I had a wonderful 90-minute massage and she offers great introductory or monthly massage package specials. I actually found out about Awen on Groupon and am really happy I was able to get such a great massage at a wonderful price. The minute I walked in Awen Bodywork Therapies in Cary I had a very good impression. Calming with good relaxing smell of essential oils. Not the artificial bad kind. I booked a 90 min aromatherapy massage session and after filling in the form, I was then told that Caroline, a south American woman, will be my therapist. Upon entering the room, it has also a very calming and good impression. She then told me to sniff some oils so that I can decide which one ( which most international spas do also). She also asked all the necessary questions a good professional spa would do. The massage was really relaxing and good, except for one point. I am very particular about part of the massage being spent on the foot as foot massages are very important in relaxation as there are many nerve points there. She was not very well versed in foot massages I have to say. But other than that, she was really nice and good in her style of massage, very relaxing and professional and SUPERNICE! Overall, I give this place a five star from before the appointment, an email to confirm and remind me about the massage and all the formalities etc and the location of this place is good, no noise disturbances from traffic or whatsoever, to layout and cleanliness of spa, to professionalism of the massage therapist. Oh and also one very important point. No cutting off time. 90 mins means 90 mins of hands on! Perfect! I would say this place is one of the top 3 I would pick for Cary. read more

So I bought a Groupon and scheduled an evening appointment for 3 weeks out. The morning of my evening appointment I had a work obligation arise forcing me to cancel. I emailed early in the morning and also sent a message via their website. Ashley Beurer LMBT responded the next day by saying Awen Bodywork's voided my voucher as a result. I purchased a groupon for me & another as a gift for a friend. We both had a stressful week & this sounded like the perfect relaxing evening. I was able to book online & received an email confirmation from Ashely. I had some questions that she replied to quickly. We showed up for our foot soaks & I cannot rave enough about the awesome treatment we received. The first thing you notice is the smell, I wish every places smelled that amazing. The second thing is how you are greeted & treated I have been to some spas were you are treated differently for using Groupon. Not at Awen. Lastly & most important is Ashley. You can tell you cares not only about you but that she trully loves what she is doing. read more

I already paid once and was disappointed, so why would I pay for another appointment even if you are going to give me an upgrade? Your reply to me is appreciated since my main concern was the customer service but Joe you need to work on how you deal with people face to face. Not knowing any Raleigh massage therapists, I took a chance on a Groupon deal as I really needed a massage. What great luck! The massage was amazing! Joe listened to my needs and did a perfect job. It's the day after my massage with Ashley. I'd been having pain in my hands for the past year and had been treated by three different massage therapists and an acupuncturist, all on multiple occasions, but still suffered. I purchased a Groupon for Awen Bodywork Therapies. It was one of the best decisions I've made in a very long time. After my massage yesterday with Ashley the pain in my hands was gone. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Save yourself the disappointment. I had my first Lemongrass Foot Soak Detox treatment and I was totally underwhelmed. While the decor is nice, the service is TERRIBLE. I was NOT told what to expect and was basically left in a room with a tepid old school metal foot tub and directed to where I could GET UP and get supplies including cold and hot water to add to the tub as I needed. I had no idea it was going to be a "self service" model which was DISAPPOINTING. The proprietor, Ashley finally returned five minutes prior to when the session ended (thusly, I forfeited 5 minutes of a 30 min session) to provide a towel to dry off my feet. After she left the room and ended the session, I even had to REQUEST lotion to place on my own feet prior to putting on my socks. She was there alone and perhaps that may have been the reason (multi-tasking as receptionist and goodness knows what else). They're simply not ready for primetime. Also, there was confusion about the name of the establishment. They go by both Awen Bodywork Therapies and Soma Wellness Center which is, in my opinion confirms they are not ready for primetime. This business has some potential...they just need time (I think), to get it together. In the meantime, I will not go back and do not suggest others support them either. read more

I was in town visiting family and found the Soma Wellness center online. I was very hesitant to book a "massage practitioner intern" but thought with her graduating in only 2 months, it would be fine. The price was great. The experience, not so much. Dawn was very sweet but clearly very inexperienced and it made for a poor massage. First, I was still getting undressed when she walked back into the room. No knock. The amount of oil used was excessive. I felt like it was slathered on and had to wipe down prior to getting dressed. Prior to the massage, she confirmed the areas that I wanted her to focus on but she seemed to forget those during the massage. She didn't address my lower back at all. I don't usually like a too firm amount of pressure but it didn't feel as if she applied any. It felt like just strokes on my skin. I see a significant number of positive reviews for the owner, so if you do choose this spa, you may want to request her and forgo the "bargain". You get what you pay for. read more
