Now called MyEyeDr. I am a new patient and my first experience was terrific. The front desk staff were superb - extremely friendly and efficient. My check in was effortless and I waited only a few minutes before being called. Dr. Paul and his assistant coordinated a thorough examination, the best I've ever experienced, and I was finished very quickly. I mistakenly left my contact lenses and case behind and it was discarded for hygiene reasons. The front desk was more than accommodating as they offered me a new case, solution and a trial pair of lenses to replace those discarded. Superb service. I am very impressed with this office; they are very nice and very professional. I was impressed with the eye doc's approach. I did not want multi-focus lenses and after a discussion, he adjusted my contact script so that I could see distances but also improved my ability to read. The staff is thoughtful, friendly, and efficient. I recommend it highly!!! read more

The worst they will not see you or treat you if your a first responders. Even if you volunteer in the town too. They won't listen to reason

What a pretentious hellhole! This place is a festering boil of upperclass slime. The staff are like staff infections. The optometrist screwed up my prescription twice, possibly deliberately to get that nice co-pay. The music piped in is the worst crap imaginable. Smooth jazz would be a welcomed break from the whiney autotuned poop they loudly play while you wait there for 17 hours just to get your eyes examined. The service is hell. They overbook and make you wait an eternity. You will not be in and out of here in under four hours. Its the worst place. LensCrafters is better than these frauds! read more

I will confess it's been many years since I've been here and perhaps they have improved the way things are done here. I've had a few negative interactions with this location, and swore I'd never go back. Starting with my observation that the people at the front desk were very rude to the patients, especially impatient with the senior citizens. #2- I had an appointment with a specialist here that I took time off from work to attend. I drove there and sat and waited. The specialist never showed up, didn't call and left me hanging. When I finally asked the front desk to contact them the dr said she was stuck and couldn't get in. NO apologies and NO effort was made to reschedule. No follow up was made, and I got the impression they didn't care about me or my business. Again this was a few years ago. However it has tainted my experience and I will never return. This is a shame because I live less than 2 miles away. read more

Beware; my family has been patients for over 15 years. I was recently charged a no show fee of $50 for appointments I missed by accident. When I called to explain I thought my appointments were a different day they didn't care. Said when they charge that they can't tell a loyal patient from a new one. Upon not finding the doctors name with whom I'd scheduled an appointment on their website, I emailed the office asking if they could please send his c.v. With no response in 2 days, I called the office and was told that Dr. Chris Chan was new. The woman with whom I spoke said she was "uncomfortable giving out any information" concerning his credentials. Information is available on their website concerning all other doctors working in their office. Obtaining background information about healthcare providers is not unusual nor should a request for such information be refused in the manner in which it was done. Unprofessionally handled by Somers Eye Center. read more

I went to Somers Eye Center for an initial visit. This was my first time to this office as I'm looking for a new ophthalmologist/optometrist. The first person I met was at the reception area, I think her name may have been Sue. Immediately I was told there would be a $45.00 charge for refraction which is not covered by insurance. As I don't wear my glasses that I already have (slight corrective prescription) and use "readers" for up close I told her I would choose not to have the refractory exam. She really pushed and gave the hard sell that the doctor "had" to have it done in order to properly evaluate me. (NOT TRUE) I have other problems that I wanted the doctor to evaluate, glasses was not one of them. I was seen by Dr. Ranani who seemed very competent and knowledgeable. I have a old scratch to my cornea and chronic "dry eyes." Dr. Ranani has great equipment and did a very nice job of explaining everything. Then he put on his peddlers garb and proceeded to try and sell me on everything from microwavable hot packs, Nutriceuticals (fancy name for Vitamin E that he sells for more than the GNC), MiboFlow treatment at $125.00 for the 1st visit treatment and $85.00 for 2nd, 3rd, etc. ......and I can imagine that the "etc" meant many more treatments. Then came the BIG sell of Lipiflow treatment at $1,200.00. I've had less hard sells in car dealerships and Orchard Street Schmata salesman. As I was leaving he handed me the microwavable hot pack and said are you going to take these? I handed them back and said.....Nope. I needed a nap after this I was so exhausted. Half the place is a eye glass sales shop and I can imagine the hard sell you get there. I think the search continues for a new doctor. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would; I had an eye exam/my first contact lens training and was sure that one of the lens was stuck in my eye but they told me it definitely was not (the doctor checked me out with her equipment right then and there), I ended up sleeping/swimming with the lens in my eye for 3 days with discomfort before it popped out when I was rubbing my eye trying to get some relief. I went in and they looked at my eye and said I had a corneal abrasion and gave me drops, no big deal to them and I found out subsequently that they submitted a bill for payment to my insurance company for this visit! They never followed up to see how the eye was, no real apology, and they are refusing to refund any fees associated with the training, etc. I went for one session of training and am so traumatized that I would never go back. Absolutely a nightmare. read more

I have been to Somers Eye Center several times. I have an unusual and difficult eye problem from Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. One great thing about Somers Eye Center is they have cutting edge equipment to be able to diagnose various eye disorders that I have found many eye doctors do not have. More importantly, Dr Ranani has gone far beyond any expectations I might have had in trying to help me. I am the type of person who is very much involved in their health and he is one of the few doctors I have found who I can actually talk to and he will listen. He has shown tremendous empathy for my situation and has gone the extra mile in finding solutions to my eye problems. He is professional, knowledgeable and caring. Dr Ranani is the reason I travel from New York City an hour away to Somers for my eye care. read more

Sherry in the contact lens department is dedicated, well informed and determined to make you see better! I wanted multifocal lenses because it was becoming impossible to even read a menu or nutritional values on products in the grocery store without putting readers on (very annoying and usually inconvenient). Sherry stuck with me and encouraged me to try different combinations until I was happy. The truth is, as Sherry explained many times, that it takes time to get used to these lenses and between her copious notes on my feedback about the lenses and her conferring with Dr. Patel about what I was looking for, she came up with a great combination that works great for me! If it weren't for Sherry I would be wearing readers right now as I write this review! read more

Super helpful staff. Had difficulty with my insurance and they went above and beyond to get me set and figure it out. I am 52 years old and this is the first time I have ever been to an eye doctor so it was a very new experience for me. The entire experience would have been overwhelming for me with all the tests done but everyone there from the staff to the doctor was so patient with me, they answered all my questions, and when it came to buying glasses there were no pressure tactics. They gave me just right right amount of help. My first visit was an emergency visit and they took me right away and spent the time needed to evaluate me. Then I had to come back for a regular eye visit and it was again very easy to make an appointment. My glasses were in in 24 hours! It is a very comfortable setup and they even do lasik there. The glasses I got were extremely reasonable too- much cheaper than when my husband went to sterling optical. When you are buying glasses no pressure to buy all the bells and whistles. I will recommend to all my family and friends. read more

I've been wearing glasses since before I can remember, so I have been to my share of doctors. This was the WORST experience I have ever had the misfortune of going through. The wait is horrendous. I waited an hour before getting called in which is highly unusual. Once I was called in, it was a mess. Never in my life have I gone to a doctor's office where three different employees call you in at separate times to do something that could be done in 15 minutes. Not only that, the front staff was distracted and got my information wrong even though I wrote everything out myself and they had my insurance information. Once I went to go pick my glasses, there was a poor selection, and once I found something, it was so packed in the office that there was no where for me to sit with the employee so he could take measurements. The employee was also confused about what type of plan I'm covered on, and once I left and was told by co-workers they got it wrong, I had to call Somers Eye Center to clarify that I got what I was supposed to (I didn't, and a different employee had to step in and fix the mistake). So much went wrong here that I thought for a moment that I was being Punked or I was on a hidden camera show. I will NEVER return here. Save yourself the grief and aggravation of entering this unfriendy, unorganized, mess of a place. read more
