I have several favorites. One is their turkey. It's so tender that it literally melts in your mouth! Top it with one of their six signature BBQ sauces, and it's fabulous. I also love one of their off-the-menu items: the sauced burnt ends. Pair them with a side of collard greens, and you have a feast! One other thing I love about this restaurant is that they play the National Anthem every day at noon. Everyone in the store (including all of the staff) stands and is encouraged to sing along. For the past few 5 years or more, I eat sporadically from Hillary's, but am always on the lookout for some "delicious" ribs. The quality of the ribs has sunk so low, that the only good part is the sauce. Ever so often I would get a decent meal, but it so seldom, that I have chosen not to go, if there is anywhere else I can go to. Finally, my husband and I ordered a small rib tips order; one with hot sauce and the other, with mild sauce. We didn't expect much, and we were not dissapointed. The very first piece was amazingly chewy. And each piece afterwards was worse. I thought if I let it sit in the sauce for awhile, the pieces would soften up. That did not happen. My husband eventually tossed his order. I tried to eat mine, but it was like chewing on leather, merely an exercise for your jaws. I am done! And this saddens me because I was there when Hillary first started selling barbecue out of his garage. He's no longer with us, and the business bearing his name is a disgrace.

We all built our own burgers and they have a LOT of options. However, the build your own may start at $9, but each topping adds to the cost. But who cares? The burgers were phenomenal! Their website clearly states, "Best burgers, ever." And they're not wrong. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. And everything is made in this tiny area at the end of the bar. We were the only people in the place after about 20 minutes, but again, who cares. The staff were extremely friendly. Their playful banter and bickering when they cleaned up was hilarious to listen to, and they were lovely to talk to as well. One of our group wanted to pick up some Spotted Cow beer (you can't get it in Illinois) and asked about a place to get it nearby.
