I have several favorites. One is their turkey. It's so tender that it literally melts in your mouth! Top it with one of their six signature BBQ sauces, and it's fabulous. I also love one of their off-the-menu items: the sauced burnt ends. Pair them with a side of collard greens, and you have a feast! One other thing I love about this restaurant is that they play the National Anthem every day at noon. Everyone in the store (including all of the staff) stands and is encouraged to sing along. As a veteran, I really appreciate this experience.

The service was not the same, but the food was on point. I have had ribs, rib-tips and catfish. When Hillary's opened in Kenosha, I was really glad because I wouldn't have to go to Illinois. The food now was just "okay", nothing to brag about, so I would occasionally go back to Waukegan and Zion. For the past few 5 years or more, I eat sporadically from Hillary's, but am always on the lookout for some "delicious" ribs. The quality of the ribs has sunk so low, that the only good part is the sauce. Ever so often I would get a decent meal, but it so seldom, that I have chosen not to go, if there is anywhere else I can go to. Finally, my husband and I ordered a small rib tips order; one with hot sauce and the other, with mild sauce. We didn't expect much, and we were not dissapointed. The very first piece was amazingly chewy. And each piece afterwards was worse. I thought if I let it sit in the sauce for awhile, the pieces would soften up. That did not happen. My husband eventually tossed his order. I tried to eat mine, but it was like chewing on leather, merely an exercise for your jaws. I am done! And this saddens me because I was there when Hillary first started selling barbecue out of his garage. He's no longer with us, and the business bearing his name is a disgrace.

It was a weeknight, but the street we were driving up to get here was a little dark and run down. But don't let that deter you. They have a nice sized parking lot for their location. Then we walked inside and found a narrow room with a bar running the length of one long wall and counter height tables and chairs perpendicular to the opposite wall. They really jammed in as much as they could in the space that they have. The ambience was dark and moody. They were playing hard rock and the bar had a couple of regulars sitting inside. At the end of the bar at the far end, was a cubicle of a kitchen. That's where the magic happens. Their menu is simple: appetizers, burgers, and build your own burgers. That's it. We all built our own burgers and they have a LOT of options. However, the build your own may start at $9, but each topping adds to the cost. But who cares? The burgers were phenomenal! Their website clearly states, "Best burgers, ever." And they're not wrong. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. And everything is made in this tiny area at the end of the bar. We were the only people in the place after about 20 minutes, but again, who cares. The staff were extremely friendly. Their playful banter and bickering when they cleaned up was hilarious to listen to, and they were lovely to talk to as well. One of our group wanted to pick up some Spotted Cow beer (you can't get it in Illinois) and asked about a place to get it nearby. They suggested Shenanigan's with a drive-through just a couple blocks away. We have to make another trek back. They are awesome and their burgers are great, too!

We also got a pound and a half of pulled BBQ pork...very good--sweet & smoky, as well as some cilantro lime pasta salad. Everything was perfect! The counter personnel were friendly, helpful and funny. The counter was clean, neat and easy to shop, even the dried spices. 100% will return in the near future. This place is well worth the hop, skip and a jump into SE Wisconsin from Illinois. Plus the gas was waaaay cheaper there at the adjoining BP. Go and be a cheesehead for the day!

The Mekts burger was fine -- solid, no complaints. The Reuben rolls, however, arrived looking exactly like what they were: a Sysco product plated with minimal ceremony. Hard pass next time. As for the name -- if you're picturing a dock, pilings, maybe a gull or two -- walk outside and squint hard past the road and the rooftops. Big lake's out there somewhere. Technically. The food was good, not really fond of the pork sliders but the pasta salad and beef was nice. The onion and tomato dip over the baked bread was delicious. Not sure what they call that, but it's worth getting. We didn't interact with the service team at all. Outside of the room being rather cold it was nice.
