Our experience with Somerset Assisted Living has been excellent. All throughout my mom's residency there these past years, the staff at every level has been so thoughtful, so caring and overall just exceptional. Now as my mom is nearing end of life on home hospice, that thoughtful, caring, and exceptional situation has just put my good-will towards this place and the people there over the top and more than I can convey in an online recommendation. I feel so strongly about this recommendation that I am taking the time to write it now even at this sensitive and hectic time. We had experience with other places previously and for us there was just no comparison to Somerset. The management is excellent, the nursing and med staff are excellent, the support staff and kitchen are excellent. For those new to assisted living and looking for a really nice and worry-free place, you will want to consider Somerset. Keep in mind (as we learned), that the first month/s at any place you go will be an adjustment time for you or your loved one (or in my case family) to adjust to the new life and routines of assisted living in general, just as the staff there will need time to adjust to you and your routines. There will be times of frustration for you or your loved one as they settle in wherever you go, but once a routine is established and you get to know the staff it will become a god-send! The quality of the nursing and meds staff will be very important and here is another area where Somerset is a god-send. Lastly, but definitely not least, in fact maybe near the top, would be the quality of the food, the chef and the kitchen staff and not to sound like a broken record but here too Somerset was a god-send for us. A last thing that makes Somerset excel above the competition for us is the fact that they are a large facility so have the scale offer a wide variety of activities, services and importantly friendships....but unlike some of the other places we had experience with, though large, Somerset is not as rigidly corporate, but flexible when appropriate which is often at just the times that flexibility is appreciated most! read more

I was an future tenant but after the newest management this is not the kind of home I am looking for. I was treated poorly. I was yelled at in front of current residents. Informed I can't be there. Only if they know you might move in they call you sweetie and darling. It seams to me they are only kind and professional if they know you might move in. Somerset Assisted Living in Gladstone, Oregon is a wonderful place to live. My Mom lived at Somerset for 8 plus years. She had a lovely one bedroom apartment that was light and bright. Varied nutritious meals, weekly cleaning, daily activities, various opportunities for socializing. The staff are dedicated to helping residents live an enjoyable life. My friend died here on February 18th. She managed her own medication and the medication room didn't give her the orders from when she was release from the hospital. This could have killed her. Management didn't like her pick of hospice, wanted her to pick their choice. Management (Jill) doesn't like individual that advocate for themselves. My mom was here in 2016 med room ordered extra OxyContin she didn't needed. They were excited, and mentioned using it for other residents. read more

Summerset assisted living. If your planning on working there don't. If your planning on bringing your family member don't. Some of the med-Techs that work there get so overly worked up if you are in need of medications. One of the residents that lives there was waiting over 20 minutes to get her morning medication. The caregivers don't get me wrong some of them are absolutely amazing, other ones don't work. If your on swing shift half the workers don't work and will hide out while busing the donning room. Morning care was always so hectic. The managers barely rarely ever came out of there office and they sit in there office playing on there phones laughing and talking to each other like there isn't a business to care for. They will hear the "call lights" from a residents room and simply tell us to hurry up to get to the light while everyone is already busy and working with other residents at the moment. The managers don't respect you are a valuable person. The treat you like shit and anything can get you a write or even fired at the point. They don't believe in leaving your shift even if you are sick and crying all bc you don't have cover and they don't want to step in. I personally worked there and got Covid-19 I went to the doctors and had an at home test that both said positive. But I would not come into the facility to have them make me take a test and there for I loss my job over it. The amount of work, and actually stress and action you go through make sure before placing an interview or bringing your family member into summerset really think are you trying to go low for the person you love? Bc if so you found the right place. Rent prices are crazy. Managers shouldn't be managers. And they simply flat out lie to you by saying "we are a family here at summerset" lie if you haven't worked there for more than 5 years your not family to them. Finding care for you loved one is not for the faint of heart of those just looking to find mediocre care. I visited several locations, but I just couldn't put my finger on what I didn't like or what I was expecting. This was all new to me and it was a responsibility that weighed heavy on my mind. I was making a life altering decision for a loved one who could no longer live alone. I put a lot of pressure on myself! Somerset was the last place I visited and I knew. I knew that this would be my choice for the care of my loved one. And fast forward a few months later, I have to state that I am even more impressed and absolutely know I made the right decision. It's the little things, and it's the big things--like safety, medication, cleanliness, and most of all--a caring atmosphere. Not everyone can care for a loved one at home. Do you love your person in need of extra care? Are they mobile or do they need assistance? Do you want them to have reliable, timely help when they need it? Good food? Dependable staff that delivers what they promise? If the answer is "Yes" then RUN AWAY, far away from this place! Our loved one was unable to push the call button or ask for help. We were paying for the maximum services including a caregiver check every two hours which frequently did not happen. They even left her sitting in her recliner in a diaper and t-shirt all night when they forgot to come and put her to bed. Several times she fell out of bed and laid on the floor for hours. Sometimes they forgot to take her to the dining room for a meal. She was left sitting on the toilet for long periods of time. Part of the problem is a frequently changing staff. Every resident has different needs. If a caregiver stayed for more than a few months they would be switched to a different group of residents instead of the staying with the ones whose needs they were now familiar with. Somerset was often short-staffed. We had dinner there a few times. Small meals, the hamburger and potato chips I got consisted of four potato chips and a small kids sized burger with unidentifiable "meat" which was barely lukewarm. The dessert trolley has leftover desserts from prior meals and some very boring ice cream. We were always stuck with the ice cream since that was all that was left when they got to our table. There were stale packaged crackers on the table which some residents would pick thru when they sat down and stash everything except the saltines away in their walkers. Despite numerous assurances from the staff, these problems continued until we finally moved her to a place with much better help. Show your person love and throughly research any facility before moving them. Talk to residents, read reviews, and be honest about their abilities. read more

This place is not a safe place for your family or loved ones. first off the care staff are not trained properly on how to take care of people. they hire just about anyone off the street and don't do drug screening or back round checks on the staff there. Theft threw out the building and the people who make the food there don't have any passion and don't wash their hands before cooking. Mice running around the dinning room. Rooms are full of trash and dishes because house keeping and staff don't take trash out. Housekeeping not able to do there job right leaving bathrooms and rooms in filth. also they are supper short handed...call lights left on more than 15 min if you have elderly please don't move them there.. read more

Somerset is so much more lively and practical now. Staff really attended to my step fathers needs. He doesn't miss an outing and he loves all the activities. No other community we toured really took the residents to do stuff that they wanted and trust me HE IS TIRED OF BINGO. Very honest place and affordable. read more

Whatever you do please don't take your family member here. They serve cold meals, they make elderly wait 45 minutes before answering their emergency ring. You have to check all the time they are giving correct meds. The RN is pathetic. She doesn't inform staff of med updates. My mom was in hospital for a week and when she came back they didn't even know she had returned and would have skipped meds had I not been there. The residents at this facility are AMAZING. Management? Disappointing. We were always short staffed. Being hounded to answer pendants in a timely manor when we physically could not. 5 caregivers versus 10 pendants is not humanly possible when you are already assisting another resident. We had multiple employee's not up to par with helping the residents well being. These issues were taken to management only to be brushed off and nothing be done about it. Residents are not properly taken care of at this facility because there is simply not enough staff to provide the care that is deserved. The RN and head administrator move anyone in despite the fact it is an ASSISTED living. They move skilled, hospice, and rehabilitation residents in. The marketing director tells potential residents that all of our care staff obtain CNA licences when in fact that is not true. There are only 1 or 2 caregivers that have a CNA licence. Think twice before having your loved one move into this facility. The care staff may care and want to help but physically do not have enough help to make that happen.
