My family was VERY PLEASED with our Mom's brief time of care @ Village Health Care! She was treated with love & respect from ALL STAFF. She loved the food!! BONUS!! She received the care as outlined in her treatment plan. She enjoyed some activities and making friends. The nurses were GREAT & very helpful for Mom & our family! After two weeks in the hospital, my husband was sent here for rehab. This was our first experience with such a facility. The everyday staff are amazing, caring, and professional. The RNs are in touch with the patient's needs and contact the proper medical providers when needed. Unfortunately there is significant delay in initiating proper treatment, such as antibiotics, etc. In addition, treatment managers to not contact family members routinely nor do they give details of care, planning, testing, etc. prior to the group sit down. In some cases this can be a real challenge for the patient, who may need better communication due to hearing, visual limits etc. After release, we inquired about some dates of care via telephone x 3 to the care specialist, with No response. While at Village Rehab, my husband complained about the food, did not eat, and lost weight. So I tasted the "soup"....he was right. After returning home he has regained some weight and pursues regular meals, so it was not his illness. read more

Village Healthcare: An absolute NIGHTMARE of a rehab hospital. I just returned home after a two week stay there after knee surgery. This was the only place the hospital could find for my after care. Here goes.... 1) The FOOD; , if you can call it that, is provided by Sysco. Sysco is a enormous food manufacturer that churns out the cheapest and least nutritious food for hospitals and nursing homes that want to bring down their food budget to nothing. There's nothing like unidentifiable food on ones plate to show a loving and caring attitude for a patients healing process. These are manufactured meals of old slabs of meat re-heated, over cooked vegetables, goopy plop of something resembling rice or potatoes, nothing "green" in their supposed "green salad". I could go on. I went on a hunger strike, only eating the tiny cups of fresh fruit, bananas and some cereal. I dropped 12 pounds (in 10 days) just from sending the food back. I will include a picture. The food smells awful too. 2) The SMELL; though the place is fairly clean, they allow the whole staff to wear un-godly amounts of perfume of their choosing. Now, I use to be a CNA when I was in college, so I understand that the smell of old and sick people can get to you, but we were taught to put Vicks Vapor rub in our noses and just make do. We were NOT allowed to wear any kind of perfume-y anything. - I have migraines. The horrible perfume stink that the nurses brought in with them would linger in the room for hours triggering a constant migraine headache, which, of course, just added to the pain, nausea and dizziness I was already in (knee surgery is incredibly painful). I had to ask for the Vicks for myself to try and allay the nurses perfumes, and finally I had to go back to taking my migraine medication. 3) They LOST my medication. It was time for my pain medication one night and they kept trying to ignore my requests for it. Finally, after ringing for it the fifth time and then dragging myself out to the front desk, some CNA, who did not speak English well, finally let me know "they could not find any of my medication, including my pain meds"...!!! OMG! I was like "you can't FIND my medication?! The nurse responded by garbling something about it maybe being on another unit by mistake...! Meanwhile I was in desperate pain and no idea if they would ever find it. It took me having to call the hospital I had been transferred from to ask if they could transfer me out of there before the charge nurse ran over with some "emergency meds" to me and said" hang up the phone or we won't give you this medication"!! Wow! Pretty awful. I had made the decision to go to this after care hospital because I wanted to get up and moving safely, learning exercises that would heal me faster. I ended up spending very little time out of bed with any physical therapy at all. When I did see a physical therapist they were often rushed, not even bothering to let me know how many reps were involved in my exercises. All and all, this experience probably set me back a fair amount in my healing process, but was an excellent lesson on never going to one of these places again, not even if I'm dying. read more

Wow! No one could have prepared me for such an awesome upgrade! My mom had stayed at the Village several years back and had complaints about her roommate, the bed, and the food. I contacted the director and she assured me that things were different; she even gave me her personal number. This is a completely different place indeed! From the moment she arrived they treated her like royalty, and she thrived in this atmosphere. Each person I met was so kind!!! They actually fought over who would do her hair--she loves them all and has invited each of them over to visit after she returns home. They had a remodel so mom said the beds were comfortable and the food was very good. I contacted her almost every day face-to-face (during Covid lockdown) with technology and the help of the Village Activities Assistant; she deserves a gold star for all she does to make each guest feel special. She keeps them busy, when they aren't in therapy, and they get many special treats! Having FaceTime made my mom and I feel connected; so important in these uncertain times. Now that I have a chance to catch my breath--my spouse was very sick for 9 months--I want to share a few things so that people considering this place will be prepared. First, note that when my husband was in Providence Hospital, the social worker was quite surprised that I wanted to choose the rehab my husband went to. She explained, and I understood, that beds during the latter stages of the pandemic (this was late 2021 and early 2022) were scarce. She gave me a 'choice' of two places. I looked into them both and was not impressed. One of the two would not allow visits, even though my husband didn't have covid at any time during his health challenges. So I opted for Village, but only because of the pressure--oh, he has to be out by tomorrow, oh, we usually don't give anyone a choice, oh, you have to choose in the next 20 minutes or "lose the bed," blah, blah, blah. Well, his hospital stay was covered after four days--they wanted him out on the fifth, of course!--but I came to find out they would have had to keep him if I insisted on finding a rehab myself. When you're upset, it's easy to get pressured. The broker--yes, she is JUST a broker, but acts like she works THERE--was all sweet on the phone, call me anytime, etc. But as soon as he was in, I couldn't reach her by phone or email, and when I did, she practically yelled at me. Don't you know I'm not on site? What she really wanted to say was, "Don't you know I get paid to slot people into beds and then I don't give a hoot about them?" No, I didn't know that because she represented herself as caring, supervisory staff at Village, so how WOULD I know? During the 14 days my husband was at Village, he lost ten pounds. On the very day he was due to be moved by ambulance, Providence gave him a laxative and he had an accident in the ambulance--how humiliating, and how predictable if Providence had used any one of their heads. Once there, the diarrhea never abated, nor was it treated despite my suggestions and demands. He had diarrhea for two more weeks after coming home, but as soon as I gave him decent food and used the BRAT diet, he rapidly improved and recovered. The food at Village was horrible. He could rarely eat anything. They have a full kitchen on site, but apparently never cook anything. I suspect they use meals on wheels or some equally execrable service. Meanwhile charging Medicare an arm and a leg. I'm reporting all this so naive people like myself with sick loved ones don't get blindsided. Village is clean and the staff seemed pleasant enough, but my husband, who is far from a crybaby, was deeply unhappy there and felt the staff was careless, uninterested, and--except for the nurses--incompetent. He was treated as an unwanted object, not a human being with dignity and free will. I think if I had not come in every other day and emailed daily, it would have been FAR worse. I'm rather suspicious of the five star reviews here on Yelp. They seem rather short and that is always interesting to me, since a genuine review, like this one, is usually long! When I see a preponderance of one stars and five stars, I take notice. As for physical therapy it was minimal, but some relief from the mostly unprofessional demeanor of basic staff. However, although I was assured my husband was "ready to come home," in reality they had never let him stand, move or go to the bathroom on his own. He came home very week and if it hadn't been for Signature Health (wonderful people) he (and I) would have been up the proverbial creek. I would never let my husband be put there again if I had any choice at all. But when you are not rich, most healthcare entities make it clear to you that they don't think you deserve a choice. I have found Village Health Care to be staffed with friendly, caring, competent staff who provide top notch care. The facility is clean and smells good... which is a strong indicator to me of good care being provided. The staff are friendly and helpful. Ther residents interact freely with staff which is another indicator that they feel well cared for. I would not hesitate recommending Village Health Care for my own loved ones who are in need of extended health care as well as post acute care. read more

Noone knows what is going on there. If someone you know gets put in the village, get them out! 1st they told my mom there was no money for pt for her. Then they said she refused pt so they couldn't charge her $450 a day instead of $190 a day. Then they moved into a room with a woman that refused to turn she TV down after 11p. My mom slept in the dining room setting at a table a few nights. Then they "forgot" to feed her a few meals. Until I found out and started calling everyone there. They wrote down everything my mom touched used or ate but can't give me, Medicare or the insurance company an itemized bill of anything. They started calling and harassing me for payment a few days after they mailed out the bill. I hadn't got it yet. Now they are charging us for 6/1-9 and 6/1-30. We made 2 payments while insurance and Medicare fight it out. When I called them about the double charges for the 1-9 and reminded them that I checked my mom out on the 9th and that she wasn't there 10th - 30th. The next week they sent us to collections. I am reporting them to everyone. Better service eating at 711 and renting a motel room. Watch them very carefully! read more

just learned about your reviews. Im reviewing Village Health Care. I live in this nursing home. I've been here 4 years. This is a comfortable and pretty place with wonderful Staff, both nursing and services. The Director of Nuses is wonderful and tries her best to keep us all safe and happy. Her name is Nicole. The Patient care Manager in my section is Dena. She is kind, patient and listens so well. She is also fantastic at organization and among her other duties, keeps track of all our appointments. Another wonderful worker is Brenda, our Events Coordinator. She helps us with all of our activities. Right now she is working so hard trying to keep us engaged since we are quarantined to our rooms due to Covid. There are many wonderful nurses and CNA'S that take care of our physical and emotional needs. I've been in 2 other homes. Did not want to return to either of them. The Village Health Care far surpasses both of them. Thank you to Yelp for this opportunity to tell you about my hoe. Thank you especially to the Management, Nursing and CNA'S staff and the other staff, from kitchen to maintenance, for giving me such a comfortable and safe place to live. God bless you all. My Mother was at Village. Frankly I would not want to see my worst enemy there. Everyday I talk to my Mother and everyday I would ask her if her hearing aids were in. No, I think they are in a safe or something. One morning I talked to the staff and told them I wanted her hearing aides in when I called her. They were not in. I called the nurses station again. The guy really did not seem to care and did not know where they were. I called Brittany a social worker to find out what was going on. We lost them. Really how long ago was that well I have known for 2 days. And you did not tell me. They finally said they would buy her new ones ($3,600.00) The day I was to pickup her hearing aids. The hearing aid place had not gotten the check. I was told it went out last Thursday. After several calls I found out Brittany went home early. She is the one that told me to call her back. I finally talked to a supervisor "I saw that check yesterday." the check finally went out 4 days after I ws told it would be sent. I could not get her hear aids the day they were ready. I finally was able to pick them up 3 days later. Mom was without hear aids for at least two and a half weeks. She has dementia and they sent her to a doctor appointment by herself. Luckily we found out and my husband met her at the appointment. All of this is going on during COVID 19 This is only a couple of the many problems I had with Village. Do not go to that place. Village Health Care is a fantastic skilled nursing facility on the edge of Portland and Gresham. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable and are clearly competent in their roles. I have had several patients and family members praise the care and kindness they received while at the Village. Also worth noting is their rehabilitation program; I have had several successful experiences and positive outcomes as a result of the great physical therapists and Resident Care Managers at the Village. So far my experience has been quite enjoyable. The staff are very informative, helpful, and most of all they give you your dignity and respect. This has been my first major surgery as an adult. Getting rehabilitated through physical therapy, I couldn't have asked for a better team of professional and attentive therapists. They are short handed and also do not communicate with the family when there are problems. My step mom had a fall one evening and I was not contacted until morning. She ended up having brain surgery because of the fall. Also the family was given 2 different stories regarding the fall. read more
