Beautiful! I had heard so much about this place from others that I was finally able to make my way down and see it for myself. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is like no other bar I have been to. It's like entering a greenhouse rather than a bar (and without the humidity of a greenhouse). I went during the later afternoon on a perfect 70 degree weather day with sunshine and a slight breeze. It wasn't crowded but had a great flow of people surrounding the bar area as well as the outdoor patio. Friends had told me that the last time they were there it was so crowded that you couldn't find seating outside...but they had gone during the night...which I can imagine the ambience being quite different during that time. Their main bar area had window ceilings that let the light flow in so brightly that the place just felt so relaxing and serene. The bartenders were attentive and helpful when helping us decide on drinks. I went with a recommendation from the bartender that was a drink that had a flower you ate along with it for the tasting experience. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me recall the name, but I can add a picture! The patio offers an array of different group seating areas where your party can gather as long as you get there first! The place is decorated with unique lighting stretched above with each bulb being a different shape. It gives a very safari-sh/jungle/tropical type feel. Which I love. This is one of the best bars in the city and it continues to get better! As it gains popularity, parking is going to be an issue, it already is. We had to park a few blocks around the corner. I don't know how I would feel about that at night. We went on a Saturday afternoon and had a great time. As you walk in there is an old bus. We were told they were converting that into a kitchen and adding a few tables on the roof of the bus. Sounds awesome. Then you walk into the main bar area and get blown away by the vibe in there. There are thousands of dollars of tropical plants and the structure is all glass! You are drinking in a glass jungle in the hood! It's amazing!! They had a fun cocktail list and can pretty much make whatever you want. All of the bartenders were really friendly and helpful. When we were there they had a couple cooking in the patio area. They were selling empanadas. The food was good. We will definitely be regulars here. It's a fun happy vibe. read more

Calling all plant lovers!!! When I heard they were opening up a bar filled with plants, I was ecstatic! We had made reservations for dinner downtown. Gave us an excuse to drop by and have some cocktails. They check your bags and ID at the front entrance. Understandable. Also this place is dog friendly. You walk in and it is breathtaking! It's like an Oasis/Resort. The decor is Asian/ Pacific Islander filled with exotic plants. There are a couple of bars. A room that looks like a study and a sun room. The sun room was my favorite. Very warm and inviting. The outdoor patio has beautiful landscape filled with either tables, lounge chairs, bus you can sit inside and chill, and benches. Spaced out so you can have that privacy. The Cocktails are reasonable pricing. If you are not up for their specialty specials, they do have beer and wine. My lady found this spot on Instagram and really wanted to check it out. So how was I to say no? She loved plants and all the pics of this bar were loaded with a plethora of plants. Plus I thought it looked cool too. So why not, right? And I ended up enjoying it too. We got there around 4pm on Saturday, hoping it wouldn't be too busy, but it was pretty packed. It's still a relatively new place though, so that's to be expected. I really liked the greenhouse style bar area. It looked very open and inviting. My lady and I decided to get a couple drinks and find a spot to sit outside in the patio area. Their drink menu is pretty diverse and reasonably priced as well. She had the Freaky Tiki and I had the Tulum Margarita. They offer a spice level of 1-6 on their margaritas, and I'm a bit of a spice fanatic, so I went right for the 6. Both drinks were really good, though I really didn't taste any real spice in mine, but it still had great flavor and balance. Their outdoor area is really nice. Lots of lush green plants everywhere, lots of unique seating areas (including old street cars and little canopies). There's also an indoor bar area with lots of interior paintings and decor. After taking a mini tour of the facilities, and finishing our drinks, we decided to split one more (only because we were having dinner nearby and didn't want to overdo it here). We opted for the Barrel-aged Caipirinha. I think we both enjoyed this drink the best. Very complex and flavorful. If you like craft cocktails and bountiful plant-life, this is definitely a spot you'll wanna try. The only thing I didn't like about it was the typical snobbish OTR yuppie clientele, but I'm not faulting the bar for that at all. I still enjoyed it and so did my lady. I was so excited to finally come to this bar! We were greeted by the bouncer who was very friendly and explained the layout of the bars and where the bathrooms are. (I was grateful for this after some time because the bathroom doors are wallpapered the same as the walls so it's tricky to see if you're not looking for it!) Each area of the place, the library bar and the bar in the greenhouse room and the patio seemed very well planned, it felt all "lived in". Every corner has something interesting to see! And all of the plants!!!! Everything was beautiful. I was disappointed that the night we went was a rainy one because I wanted to sit in one of the cabanas outside, those are not so water resistant. But the greenhouse room was very cozy! The drink menu was interesting and different. But in a good way! They had a few classics with a little twist, for example I got the "molotov mule" which was a mule but with a red wine float. Hello Somerset! I'll keep this one short. Upscale feel to this unique bar makes you forget that you're in the "Nasty Nati." Ha! Beautifully designed with a unique layout. I feel like it's more fitting for larger groups of friends to mingle because the space is slightly choppy. I don't mind this but my husband wasn't a huge fan of the layout because it lacks a big open space. We were pretty secluded in the seats we found but I was fine with that. This could easily be one of my new favorite bars. Judging by the rooftop martini that I had, I'd guess that all of their drinks are crafted well. I will be back frequently. read more

I have been going to Somerset for a little over a year and I have just one of my all-time favorite bars. The vibe in here is literally amazing and the staff is always extremely friendly. I was sad to find out that they got rid of their oregano vodka. They have a food truck when you walk in so that you don't have to leave the bar to grab snacks. I had these potato bites and they were absolutely delicious. I recently went to one of their "respect the mic" nights that they have on Wednesdays to see my friend perform some of her new poetry. I never knew about this and it was so cool to see a group of people all coming together and listening to others pour their hearts out. They had sign ups so anyone could do it which was awesome!! They have two inside bars and then a back patio to explore which was covered in different plants all over and gave a greenhouse vibe. There was a bunch of cool places to sit outside and even had secret little spots where you had to search to find a really cool seat! The cocktails are amazing and they have new refreshing ones that often go along with the season! Update Nov 2023 (4/5 stars): - Somerset is still a good time and incredible space, but as the bar turns 2 years old, prices are unfortunately on the rise, especially Rare Whiskey Wednesday and (batched) cocktails. $14 is just a lot for a batched cocktail, probably the highest in the neighborhood, even at Sundry & Vice for instance, theirs are $11. - I had a group try the new food truck and it was unanimously felt that the prices are just too high for what you get... not sure I'll try that again. - They also have now started disallowing bringing in water bottles after a certain time of the day (even if they're empty), instead, you have to sit your water bottle on the ground by the door and just hope no one takes it -- it's a real unnecessary inconvenience if you have an expensive water bottle or you're coming from somewhere else before / after. No idea why they won't let people refill their own empty water bottles here... that's something every other bar & restaurant in the city allows. - I have started taking people to other bars more instead for these reasons. These are some unfortunate changes at an otherwise cool bar, so I hope they reconsider increased prices and disallowing water bottles, but for now, Somerset has become a 4/5 for me. Earlier review (5/5 stars): After being in OTR for a decade and trying hundreds of bars, Somerset is my favorite *nice* bar in OTR (and all of Cincy), and also favorite bar to take friends too. It's also the most "ambiance-forward" bar in OTR / Cincy. My favorite aspect is probably just how many different and various spaces there are throughout the place. There's not too much else to say -- just go check it out for yourself and you'll definitely have a good time. Weekends are very busy, but they batch cocktails so it's still fast service (bartenders are great, and management emphasizes creativity). Weekdays are more chill and Wednesday is Rare Whiskey Wednesday for the bourbon drinkers. There are really no critiques, just "keep doing what you're doing", making things constantly fresh and new and fun and lively and eventful. This would have been an easy 5 star review had it not been for the service we experienced. The bar is hands down one of the most unique places to have a drink in Cincinnati, but parking is hard to come by and the are this bar is in hasn't completely gentrified yet. The cocktails were creative so you will pay a little extra for that. Once when you're inside the bar, you feel like you've been transported from the city to a lush garden. Plenty of seating for a large party. We felt the only downfall was the bartenders were unattentive, slow, and not as friendly as I had hoped to meet the vibe of the bar (and it wasn't that crowded). Walk in and be transported to a tropical oasis The interior reminded me of a greenhouse with the clear glass windows and an abundance of plants. Displayed throughout were tons of Asian artifacts from all different countries. Majority of them from back in the day and specifically India. It was cool to see. I most definitely felt seen which I appreciate it. Also this entire wall of tiny little pictures. On the flipside as a South Asian/Indian POC it's my duty to speak up for my community when I see something wrong. Many of these artifacts are actually religious including Hindu Gods among old movie posters, signage, etc. They should not be near the bathroom areas at all. That is actually incredibly disrespectful and gross. Matter of fact there should be nothing on the bathroom doors except the bathroom sign. It is imperative that research is done on what these artifacts mean so they can be properly displayed, appreciated, and shared with customers so they can also learn what they mean. Plus with this being just a bar and not a restaurant having religious imagery tends to rub the wrong way if you catch my drift. All this will be viewed as cultural appropriation and not appreciation. Possibly holding informative cultural sessions where they are giving back to the specific country or local people whose roots are from that country, etc. (maybe they already do this, not sure). I'm hoping the owners will consider making a change to properly celebrate South Asian and Asian culture in a beautiful light. Lastly, with the plethora of South Asian/Indian artifacts present I was very surprised to see that they didn't have any South Asian/Indian inspired drinks. Something for them to look into as well to show appreciation. A portion of the sales could go to an Indian organization. Somerset Bar has the most interesting international feel of any of the bars I've been to in Cincinnati. The decor takes you to another country and if you visit in the summer and are lucky enough to sit outside, it's the perfect place for a date night since the foliage makes for a very intimate evening. Wouldn't recommend if you wanted to have a crazy fun girls night, it's more of a after-dinner-drinks vibe, but definitely within walking distance to the crazy-fun-girls-night kind of bars. Somerset is perfectly a distance from OTR where you feel like you're a tourist in your own city but can still walk or Uber from other areas of downtown. read more
