We were in Dixon and looking for a place with gluten free option, and we found Somkit! When we walked in, there were many people enjoying lunch. We were shown a table away from the door as it was really cold that day, so the staff were quite considerate. There was also a sushi bar area. We opted for ordering from the menu which comes with appetizers. When inquired about gluten free options, the staff explained clearly what could be gluten free. When the food arrived, we were quite impressed that they do take allergen seriously. The put a gluten free indicator on the dish to make sure it was clearly marked. In term of the taste, they were delicious. I particularly like the soup, it was flavorful, and definitely good for a cold day! I got the pad see ew with tofu. It's pretty good. I would give it a 3.75/5. I would want the broccoli to be a little more juicy with sauce but there's no sauce in the dish. There's a little burnt taste too. I also did get the spider roll and loved it. 5/5 for me with the spider roll. I picked up the food and it was ready in the time they said it would be. In town for work and the people at the company I am working with highly recommended this place. Overall it was solid but I will break it down by what I ordered, also for context I got takeout to bring back to my hotel. Started with the seaweed salad; this was great, u have never had seaweed salad before but the seaweed with dressing had great flavor and would definitely order again 5/5. Next spicy salmon sashimi; also have never had before but this was the best part of the meal. You get 5 pieces for like $13 which seems reasonable; and it was great, it was spicy and again I have never had this before but would definitely get again, great flavor/spice and big pieces of salmon 5/5. For my entree I got chicken with mixed veggies, this was average. Just not a lot of flavor in my opinion. You can choose your spice level and I got 7 out of 10 and it really was not spicy so that is why I'm going it a 3/5. I would probably order a different entree if I came again. The food is very good and it is a nice quiet spot. Parking is rough for sure, but there is a public parking lot about a block away. I sat in front in a window seat. It was very cold there. A cushion on the back of the bench against the window would be a great addition for comfort. I do think the food and atmosphere outweigh the negatives. How did I not know about this place? Thai with sushi. Okay, that's it. We dropped in for lunch today. I was really looking for Sushi, and good sushi at that. The waitstaff seemed perplexed when we wanted to order that way, but went with it. Drinks were simple - hot green tea for my wife, and a root beer for me (which got a refill without asking!) Then we got into the lunch. We started with an order of Gyoza (potstickers on the menu). It was served lightly toasted with a nice plum sauce, and was very good. We started with a course of three sushi which were served on one plate with plenty of wasabi, ginger, and carrot curls - their Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Dynamite Roll. Wow. Good sushi! The Dynamite Roll was the star of the show - deep fried, warm, and ooooooooohhhhhhhhh so tasty! That isn't to say the Spicy Tuna and Salmon weren't good - they were, but the Dynamite Roll was just fantastic! We were still hungry, so we ordered their Spicy Tuna Deluxe and Cubby. When I looked at the Cubby, I thought "My wife would like this." I was right - she loved it (and I enjoyed it too!) The restaurant itself is very nicely appointed. The bathroom (at least the Mens Room) was spotless with plenty of room, and obviously someone who makes sure it is clean - and I mean CLEAN. I was impressed. If you like Thai or Sushi, you have to try this place. It was really good. Expect higher prices than most places, but you are paying for quality here. We'll definitely be back for dinner at some point in the future, and I mean NEAR future. This is an excellent restaurant. On street parking is available, or a parking garage is to the west. One of the better restaurant experiences I have had of late let alone being a thai/sushi restaurant. I probably have sushi 2-3 times a month all over the US as I travel and this would rank in the top 2 or 3. The sushi I had was nicely done and of high quality and the Tom Yum soup is probably one of the best I have had anywhere. Warning! their wasabi is at full strength which I appreciate but if you are not used to it you're going to clear your sinuses or be drinking water like a camel. Somkit used to be one of out favorite places to eat but sadly they have a sign on the door stating due to covid they are lacking in kitchen help so you should be patient and boy did it prove to be the fact. We were initially the only guests and service still took a very long time. The hostess was outstanding she is very quick and friendly but after that everything took a very long time. The food is definitely not as good as it used to be the Lumpia was over cooked and the filling was lacking in flavor, most of our meal was lacking in flavor and presentation. We will definitely go back again to give them another chance but we will definitely wait for a while in hopes they get themselves together and it goes back to their past excellence. read more

We came here for dinner based on many recommendations. There was street parking and this place wasn't too busy. The menu had a lot of choices from Thai food to Japanese food. Our waitress was nice and helpful when we asked about the menu. We ordered the Hawaiian Fried Rice ($10.50), Crazy Noodles ($9.50), and the Spicy Basil Leaves ($9.50) on the first visit and Cashew Chicken ($9.50), Crazy Brown Rice ($10.50), and the Fire Dragon roll ($11.95) on the second visit. The Hawaiian Fried Rice was delicious, the Crazy Noodles were good, and the Spicy Basil Leaves were tasty. The Fire Dragon was good as well as the Cashew Chicken. I would recommend any of those dishes if you had a hard time deciding what to order. Somkit was probably one of the best restaurants in town and I highly recommend checking them out if you're passing through town. read more

The food was excellent the service was excellent but they do not post that they do not accept checks at the door and there was a problem with the billing so I had to mail them a check and then the waitress called me on my phone and said I was a cheapskate because I only gave her a 20% tip so I guess what I'm saying is the only thing good about it was the food. read more

Sometimes the sushi is disappointing, sometimes it's good. The tuna tataki was good the first time I had it then the second I ordered it a week later, the tuna was gray color and rubbery. I really enjoyed Somkit. My parents just purchased a home over in Lost Nation and we came into Dixon to see some food options. I found Somkit on Yelp and Thai is some of my favorite food so we gave it a try. I'm so glad we did because this will be a staple for us. We even came back the following weekend when visiting. We got the Pad Kee Mao both times and it was delicious! We've also tried the Hawaiian fried rice and curry as well. The fried rice was decent but the curry was fantastic! I also really liked the atmosphere. It feels just a little bit upscale but still casual and relaxed. The tables are also pretty far apart which is always nice. After a long weekend of driving and fast food, we decided to drive the extra 7 minutes from I-88 into downtown Dixon for dinner. First, Dixon is a super cute town with some lovely businesses that I would like to come back and check out. But even better was the delicious food at Somkit. Some Thai fried rice with crispy tofu was the perfect dish after days of road food. My son got beef panang curry and it was gone in a flash. (We did ask for a left over container for the sauce that was left. Too good!). Some Thai iced teas helped us keep our eyes open the last leg of our journey. This is Dixon's quintessential fine dining restaurant, along with Basil Tree. The food may seem overpriced, but the quality is impeccable, especially for a restaurant in rural Illinois where fresh ingredients can be hard to come by. The service is wonderful as all of the staff are kind and funny. It's also designed very nicely; overall, a lovely place to eat that has never disappointed. We had delivery through Toast, which was perfect: no discombobulated sushi! The meal just got better from there. The Curry Puff 93 pieces) was perfect as an appetizer for two. Delicate, moist, flakey, and delicious. I ordered the Dragon sushi and added some nice olive oil to raise the fat content for my ketogenic diet to balance the white rice. With that one addition, it made a meal. The unagi was perfect. I would compare the quality of this sushi favorably to the best I've gotten anywhere in the US. read more

I love that there is a place to get sushi in Dixon. It's a nicer more upscale place to get some Asian cuisine and has a pretty decent atmosphere too. I'm a huge fan of the drive through window for pickups as well. It's one of my favorite places to eat at in Dixon. We have been going to Somkit for years. We walked in tonight at 5:30 pm to an almost empty restaurant. There were three people in our party. We were told there would be an hour wait. I pointed out that there was barely anyone in the restaurant. "Yes but we have reservations starting at 6pm." Yes, folks, we were basically turned away (not going to wait an hour with obvious empty tables) from a mostly empty restaurant in favor of reservations that wouldn't be there for a half hour. Probably won't be back for awhile, if at all. This annoyed me that much. Hope their reservations turn up. read more

It's been awhile since I have been there. Like back in July of 2019... just to find out they don't accept the local football card that had a coupon. Thought that was crappy. They are pretty expensive. My service wasn't bad. I got an appetizer because I knew it since it was busy it would take longer for my sushi. This is the first stop on my idea of a perfect date night. Whenever I'm in Dixon for the weekend, I beg my boyfriend to take me here (and if he's not in the mood, I just go with my mom!). I've sampled items from all over the menu, ranging from spring rolls to pad thai to red curry and all of it has been amazing. The Thai fried rice is incredible and perfectly spiced (it even earns my dad's stamp of approval no easy task!) and the curries are rich and savory. I also have to give them a round of applause for serving the most incredible sushi roll I've ever tasted. It bothers me that I can't remember its name right now - it includes sweet potato tempura, veggies and cream cheese. Absolutely mouthwatering. We always receive great service and the few times I've ordered takeout, my order has been ready very quickly. Oh, but I do feel bad for the koi by the front door. We had lunch here on 02-02-2016. It's a cute little place that appeared clean and well decorated. Our waitress was very friendly. I had the Thai Ice Tea, which was very sweet but tasty. We ordered the Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups which we both really liked. I had the Red Curry and my husband had the Pad Thai. They came in pretty dishware, but you couldn't decide on levels of spiciness.
