Went here for Valentine's Day dinner and it had its hit and misses. We just got appetizers and sake. The sake was good. However there was no prices listed on the menu. My plum sake reserved was 30.0 for a small bottle. (Whoops). But it was Valentine's Day so honestly it wasn't a biggie. Onto the food. For starters we got the spring rolls and soup dumplings. The spring rolls were made fresh and very good. Only thing that would have been nice is if they were wrapped with the ends closed up as when you tried to dip them in the delicious sauce that came with the insides fell out a bit. They had a good mix of lettuce, noodles, shrimp and a little shredded crab I believe. (It was dark in there so was hard to tell). The soup dumplings were to die for !! Nothing more to say but small bites of heaven. And they didn't come out so hot that you popped on into your mouth and were hit with boiling insides. Will definitely go back for these again. Now to the meh ones. The crab Rangoon needed more filling and more crab. Kinda bland. And the jalapeño stuffed wontons also needed more peppers and bacon. Just not a ton of flavor other than fried. We did not have room for any of the rolls but they looked interesting. Not a lot of "raw" ones so if that's your think your choices are limited. It's a cute little space the staff was super nice and it was a last minute dinner reservation so that was a plus. They were really hopping to bring out all the food stuffs and we left with the intention of coming back on a less busy day to try more items. read more

I forgot to take pictures, so I am sorry for that mistake. First we had crab Rangoon for the appetizer. They are huge and quite tasty. The sour lychee drink was very tasty as well. I did like my Ramen although it is a bit small. I have to say that the broth lacked depth and developed flavor. It just didn't have a wow to it. It could've been chicken broth with lack of salt and seasoning. I'm sorry, but it just was not impressive to me because I have had a lot of good ones. His steak hibachi was pretty good. The vegetables were cooked very well too. The fried rice however was only punched up by the yum yum sauce. The service was great. Our waitress was perfect and cheery! I like the place, but it is smaller. The lighting is intimate, I guess. It's on the dark side. I'd go back to see how their sushi stacks up. read more

Came here on a limb visiting town looking for a new place to eat at, made a reservation online, as the place seems to be popular. All honesty the atmosphere was very well put together, and glowed when you walked in. The place itself doesn't have to much seating options. However it is in a small building. To the food, In which is the most important part of this review. The side salad was actually beyond good, especially with the ambitious punch of the dressing, very well put together. The sushi seemed to be a bit average, as it would often fall apart when trying to eat it, as well as has mediocre tasting ingredients. Still editable and somewhat enjoyable, but not to die for. The hibachi was a disappointment. The teriyaki sauce on top was good, but the main part of this dish was the noodles, they where extremely dry, and hard to eat due to that fact. The vegetables were smothered in a base sauce in which tasted more less like normal Chinese food. The steak was cooked well, in which I will have to admit. The Ramon, this lacked flavor, very basic, it was immaculately dry, and had almost no broth. Seems like some of the food here might need a little salt for that extra push towards flavor. All in all, the place was very average. And I was expecting more for the price we paid. And I wish the best of luck to them to hope in find to make it a stellar success. read more

Having had easy access to high-quality sushi for several years prior to relocating the Illinois Valley area, I was pleasantly thrilled to discover Koi Sushi and Hibachi on the banks of the Illinois River in Peru. Its menu (all the classics, new creations, intriguing specials), ambience (close quarters, soft lighting) and leadership (owners who love food and people) are reminiscent of my favorite sushi joints anywhere else in the country, offering comfortable surroundings, big flavors and filling portions. We did notice a cultural difference that we hadn't anticipated when ordering a couple of rolls to accompany their hibachi offerings, which are also top-notch - the rolls and other items were brought to our table at the same time. We had been used to having the rolls served before the entrees, so this was a surprise. If you prefer going this route, do what we did and request it when you order. As a non-drinker I was pleased to see a non-alcoholic version of their dragonfruit lemonade. This puts them a step ahead of many establishments in the area, but a more robust selection of alcohol-free drinks is always on my list of suggestions. My tips: always ask about the specials, see if there's anything available off the menu, and if you're new to sushi the spicy tuna roll is a great place to start. read more

I went with my girlfriend because she convinced me to try this restaurant. I will say it was the best decision for dinner that night. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very relaxing and modern. We had two sushi rolls and a chicken hibachi meal. Everything was very delicious and reasonably priced for the type of food they serve. I had dinner there with the family on a weekend getaway. My kids can be picky eaters and the staff was happy to make their dinners exactly as requested. My wife ordered the tuna poke bowl and I ordered a Tokyo Roll. Both were excellent. The staff was very friendly and patient. The owner was gracious enough to stop and ask us about our meal and tell us a bit about the building's history. It's in a great location near several state parks with lots to do and in the area.
