Sonic Boom? More like a Sonic Bust! In all fairness to the local Sonic owners/operators here in northern San Diego county, my son and I took a trip to Ohio St. Univ. where near our hotel was a Sonic. Now my boy has been wanting to tryout Sonic for over a year now and back home, here in SD, for one reason or another, it never happened...yet. However, while in Columbus, Ohio last month, the convenience and mystique it held over my son was too much to pass up. After a quick walk in quite brisk conditions, we were eager to step inside,get a strong sniff of those fries bathing in oil (ctacklin and shacklin). Alas, it would not be for this Sonic does not have an inside and possibly none of them do, hence the focus on old school drive up eating?!? Anyways we continued to freeze while we order and waited for our food. Strike 1 My son ordered the "butger of the month" the Pretzel Burger" (pretzel as in the bun) with bacon. He actually ordered the combo which of course came with fries and drink. I got a side order of the fries along with a milkshake. Cookies n Cream. I find it hard to screw up a milkshake but I cannot tell you why this was so, but both my son and I thought it was sub par. It bordered being flavorless, which makes one ponder.... As for the bigger and fries? My son claims the burger to be "decent" while we both thought the fries to be "very mid" in his lingo. Very average in mine. If ever you should find yourself in Columbus Ohio near Ohio St University, and you happen upon a Sonic, our advice to you is to keep driving! Hit for the love of God, DO NOT stop at the Taco Bell. While I must admit this to be one of my guilty pleasures, the way they make their tack meat sad disgusting!!!! Every single time I've gone to this Sonic, not only is the service rude, but very very slow. I'm typing this in the drive-thru right now after I placed a mobile order and checked in at one of the mobile-order check in stalls for 30 minutes waiting for them to bring out the food before eventually going into an order stall and before I could even say anything, this worker came on and said "I'm not taking any orders, if you are picking up come through the drive-thru". If I had known this, I would've sat and waited in the very long and very slow drive-thru line 30 minutes ago and maybe I would've gotten through it by now. And again before anyone can say anything to the drive-thru speaker, she repeats again that she's not taking orders and to come up to the window if you placed a mobile order. How anyone is supposed to know this before going through what we just did is still unknown to me. I am only going to McDonald's just down the road from here the next time I think of Sonic. Needed a cold drink and the bubble tea truck down the road was closed. Not very busy mid-afternoon on a weekday, but super slow service. One person was polite, one was gruff, no one was moving very fast- felt more like they just were taking their time than being understaffed. They were out of several things we wanted. Okay, we'll adapt. Got K a smoothie which she liked. A corndog, always a hit. I got a combo with Coke, cheesy poppers (fair) and bbq chicken bits. The pieces were fine, but there was just a squirt of sauce in the middle. Maybe they should dunk them? Anyway, an okay snack, but I understand the low ratings now. This was my first time in a Sonic and it was a horrible experienced. First, I wanted to get the experience of ordering in those big screens in the parking lot, but they just moved me to the drive thru, I don't know what was the hustle of just taking my order there is she was already talking to me. In the drive thru I just notice that the staff there was not in a good mood and they didn't want to be there. Guess I should have checked the reviews first. Pro: It was quick, affordable, and tasted pretty good. Cons: didn't know they don't have chocolate ice cream. Who knew a drive in doesnt. Also asked for sprinkles, brought ice cream. No sprinkles. They don't have them. Several cups brought (drinks and ice cream) and no cup carrier available. Person who brought food had mask below his nose. Possibly the worst......the corn dog was provided with only ketchup. Monsters! I don't know if they're understaffed or not, but I've been here twice and the service was overwhelmingly slow. 1st time, I ordered through Uber eats, and 4 drivers cancelled because service was too slow and they got stuck in the drive through. 2nd time I decided to go there. We pulled into a bay, pressed the red button to order, and it took so long that the button stopped flashing. Employees we're moving slowly and didn't tell us if maybe the machine was broken or not or if we should use the drive through. I will not be returning here and I don't recommend anyone give their patronage to this business. If they are understaffed then there should be signs apologizing for slower than expected service. If they aren't understaffed, and just have slow and bad service, then perhaps they should take a 2nd look at whether or not this is the best location for a sonic. read more

I've been three times. 1st time it was the end of a long day and spotted this near the hotel, and I'd never been to a Sonic. Got a cheeseburger meal, and like everyone else, had a soda without ice. Then something happened and couldn't eat the burger right away and it wasn't that great since it and the fries were cold. Stopped by a couple of days later and tried the cheeseburger meal again, and this time it was hot with tasty french fries, but still no ice for the soda. This last time I got the crispy chicken wrap with tater tots, and the cherry limeade. For giggles should have asked for no ice, but I'm not that quick. The tots were lukewarm, but the wrap was good. Just got some food from there. I can excuse the Spanish speakers not understanding our orders, so I corrected it in Spanish. Ordered my burger plain, it wasn't plain. Also slathered in mayo and mustard. Gross. They still didn't get the right item I wanted for my girlfriend, I wanted a chicken wrap and I got a small tender slapped between two burger buns instead. Popcorn chicken bites were pretty good, but literally only 1/6th of my order was correct, even after I told them what I wanted in Spanish. My husband and I stayed at a hotel near Sonic. We visited the restuarant yesterday and they took our order soon after we hit the button. We ordered 1 medium nerd icee. We waited 15 minutes for the drink. When we asked the sever about happy hour he just looked at us and handed us a receipt said he had to ask someone and NEVER returned....we left. Fast forward to today. We stopped in again against our better judgment and pressed the button. No one ever answered. After 10 minutes we knew why the drive-thru line was so long and joined in. Tonight I drove in to Sonic for their half price boneless chicken wings. Actually they are more like nice chunks of white meat chicken smothered in sauce. I had received a text from Sonic that the wings were on sale today. After placing my order from my car, in "short order" (note the pun!) a car hop came out with my order and collected my money. She was friendly and courteous and the boneless fried chicken with honey barbecue sauce was generous in size and very tasty. And getting a good deal actually made a tasty meal taste even better! On previous visits, I have tried their cheeseburger, onion rings, corn dogs and one of their specialty flavored iced drinks. All of these items were nicely prepared and tasty, so it keeps me coming back. If you haven't tried their onion rings, you are missing out! The onion rings are big and amazing! read more

Waited 4 minutes at the drive thru order speaker, no voice coming, so called out "hello" several times, still no response so drove forward to the completely vacant window. Onion rings were not seasoned, half were burned (2 rings out of 4 total I received in my order) and tasted like they were fried in sugared oil. I threw everything away. Went to go pick up our food and as we are waiting and waiting to tell them we are here for a mobile order, an employee or friend goes up to the door that the employees go in and out of with a CAT. Another employee already inside (EXCITED) goes to the door and lets the person inside. Now they're standing inside playing with the cat, and the employee that opened the door then takes the cat back even further into the establishment. Took 24 minutes to pick up a mobile order. First time going to a sonic drive in and this will definitely be my last. I was super excited I've always seen these commercials on tv being from Hawaii and not having a sonic. But let me tell you that was short lived. I pull up to the drive in line and they're actually busy. I get to the board and the lady asked to take my order. It was my very first time so I had no clue what to order. I asked her for a minute and looked around. After a few minutes I told her I was ready whenever she was. There was a line starting to build up behind me. I didn't hear anything back from her. So I waited another couple minutes because that's how we are in Hawaii super patient. Now I'm waiting for at least five minutes to order. I feel bad about the people behind me waiting but I can't really see if there's cars still waiting for their food. So I decide to pull around to the window. I knock on the window. No one can hear me. So I open the window and say can somebody take my order? There's no one in sight. So I say it a little louder and out of nowhere this lady comes and says sir are you okay? With this tone. That kinda bothered me. What did she mean am I okay? Because of my accent? I am American. I'm from Hawaii. How she treated me is I guess typical discrimination. Which I'm not used to. We don't have race discrimination in Hawaii. My wife was on the phone with me the whole time and she was in absolute awe of the whole situation. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she was the manager. A Sunny warmish Fried-Day quick choice for lunch outdoors was a pick out of the great southwest and takes me back to my time living out in Oklahoma and Texas way. Seemed like Sonic was the epicenter of fast food and car crusing in many of these towns so I was happy to see this chain finally reach Ohio. While this is a fast food burger chain they do have some great items that set them away from the pack. This is Tater Tot Nirvana and they offer them up hot crispy outside with a fluffy filling of tater goodness. Cherry Limeades are the perfect chaser to any meal and great for a case of cottonmouth. The burgers here are 100% beef, no slimy fillers and grilled with a goodly selection of styles to your preference. Of course Sonic is best known for having carhop service which is always throwback fun especially when they break out the inline skates. Daily specials are offered plus Happy Hour on drinks & shakes from 2-4pm daily. Overall this location rocked out my order in good time and is a good place for fun, fast food and def an edge over the BK/McD's of the world. read more

What was i thinking when I decided to come here for a chili dog? I pulled into their drive thru with one car ahead of me and nobody at the window. Not sure what the car ahead of me ordered, but they only got one bag and two drinks so they weren't ordering enough to feed an entire basketball team. It definitely should not have taken over ten minutes at the window alone for them to get their order. When I pulled up to the window I waited several minutes to be greeted and pay for my order. Waiting a few minutes for my change i thought my order or drink would quickley be passed out, but I was wrong again. Just over five minutes later my food finally arrived and I was glad they did not forget to put the ketchup in the bag because who knows how long that would have taken. Stopping at the curb before leaving the parking lot I looked around their drive in stalls and counted two cars. I also looked at my phone to see what time I sent a text before placing my order. Twenty three minutes after placing my order I was ready to leave. Upon pulling out my chilli dog, I was glad it was made correctly with catchup and onions, onions, and no mustard. Upon biting into my dog, I quickley regretted my decision and understood why it took so long to get my order. Beneath the chili my dog was overcooked and dried out. It takes time to make meat so disgusting I don't want to eat. With a chance to redeem themselves with some fresh and tasty potatoes they failed. In the time it took to prepare my order they could have dropped fresh tots four times and they chose to give me something that was sitting under a lamp since before i pulled up. No complaints about the ice cold coke I got, but it will be a long time before I return to this Sonic on Olentangy again. I really like stopping at these when I am in Oklahoma and I think their Bryan, Ohio and Nelsonville, Ohio locations do a much, much better job when it comes to speediness, customer service and quality of food. read more

I'm a Sonic fan and a Door Dasher. I've visited this Sonic several times this week for both reasons. There were only two girls working every time I was there. The one that appears to be the manager was gracious, helpful, and doing her best. They were certainly slow, but most restaurants these days--especially the custom-order ones--are. Unlike the one at Gemini Place, they were open at the posted hours every time I visited. This alone earns them a star (c'mon, Gemini!). My food and drinks have been well-made. I hope they get some more employees soon but I'm happy to be a customer in the meantime. read more

Went to Sonic on Olentangy River Road near Riverside Hospital for lunch and had a great experience! Very friendly guy took my order--food was delivered quick and hot. And, most importantly, it was delicious! Especially liked the tater tots and the mozzarella sticks. Also, I ordered a banana, which was a nice option. Who knew you could get a banana at Sonic?!
