Would be 5 stars if Sonic still carried the burrito, original style hand-battered onion rings and the chicken strip dinner with Texas toast and gravy.

Ordered a large tot. Got home and this is what I pulled out of the bag...

The panini was cooked well and the chicken was juicy. My wife got BBQ chicken quesadillas, made with pulled chicken not diced, and it was also excellent. I closed with what they call the Espresso Float. Shots of espresso poured over your choice of ice cream (homemade in house). I got praline crunch ice cream, which was great. I can't wait to come back - I think I'll go with chicken and dumplings next time.

It's a cute little cafe that serves delicious sandwiches that are homemade along with their homemade ice cream! We got got the chicken caprese paninis and let me tell you, the bread was so fresh and the pesto was wicked good. We both enjoyed some of their ice cream--I actually liked my husband's ice cream flavor, Root beer, a lot more than the one I chose, which was Red Velvet. The staff was super friendly! I think they refilled my tea at least 10 times. Great atmosphere and if you need a massage, hair cut, or your nails done...you can bounce on back and do that too--my husband did!

Best Bites - Cool Down at Spoon It While out shopping with…read moremy grandkids on a typical hot Texas day, one of them asked for frozen yogurt. I told them, "I know just the place!" About a month ago, Spoon It opened its doors at 7515 Hwy 105 near Major Drive, and it's already become a favorite spot for a cool, creamy treat. Calling it "cute" is an understatement--it gives off real tropical vibes! The checkout counter and yogurt machine stations are designed like tiki huts, complete with bamboo and thatched roofs. It's festive, fun, and the perfect escape from the heat. Their variety of frozen yogurt is impressive, with about 12 different flavors to choose from--including two sugar-free options. One granddaughter chose a swirl of pistachio, cheesecake, and yellow cake batter yogurt, and topped it with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple. The other went with dreamsicle and cheesecake yogurt, finished off with little cheesecake squares for extra indulgence. And oh--did I mention their topping bar? It's vast! If you can think of it, they probably have it. As for me, I had a small serving of sugar-free strawberry yogurt topped with fresh strawberries. Light, refreshing, and absolutely delicious--I'd definitely order it again. With summer temperatures climbing, I encourage you to stop by Spoon It on Hwy 105. The yogurt is top-notch, the customer service is exceptional, and the vibe is just plain fun. Bring your kids or grandkids--they'll love it. Ladies, after your next girlfriend's luncheon, treat yourself to something sweet. Guys, take your date--she'll love it too. And when you go, be sure to tell them you saw it on Best Bites! There's plenty of alcoholic and non alcoholic daiquiris flavors on the menu. We tried starburst & ocean sunrise and they were just what we needed to cool down after a hot day at the beach. Folks are very nice explaining the menu or adjusting orders to accommodate special diets, likes, etc. Menu is very large with all sizes. My wife did a Twisted and I did a milkshake (vanilla with caramel). Reasonable priced items (my wife's extra shot in her drink was $2.50 as an example). Only downside with that really attentive service and care in making is the wait. You can see they are trying to get them out fast as they can but it was a ten to twenty minute wait in line (a family of six ahead of us) and then another 10 minutes before orders were ready. But that time might be best spent off the phones and enjoying your family's company right? Also, seems like there is some kind of vent in the ground outside the ordering window which made for some interesting smells. Worth a stop.

I got a t-shirt too that I wore for years until it was ultimately retired. I actually wrote a Yelp review about it that I deleted. In it, I said "The smell of the waffle cones filled the place with smiles and enjoyment. I knew I wanted a waffle cone." What a terrible critic. He will never be Yelp Elite. I haven't been back to Hey Mikey's since then, just because I haven't really been back to Galveston in some time, but my memories of the unique ice cream flavors and toppings remained. Heading back to Galveston for a cruise, I wanted to try and make a stop there again for nostalgia's sake. Instead of heading to the Airbnb, my girlfriend and I drove straight to Hey Mikey's as our first stop in Galveston. We got there around 8:45 pm, which was 15 minutes before they closed (our fault). This is no diss to Hey Mikey's, but almost everything else on The Strand on a Thursday night closes way too early, so it felt like everyone was at Hey Mikey's. The line was extensive in front of us and behind us even after it closed. After waiting through the line for quite some time, I got a waffle cone with their cereal milk ice cream, which had Fruity Pebbles in it, topped with Lucky Charms. They gave it to me with a temperature-changing plastic spoon that turned from yellow to purple when cold. The ice cream was sensational. What an incredible flavor. The only downside was the waffle cone being a little stale, but I fault that to it being a waffle cone ordered right at closing time. The next night, I returned with my cousins and ordered a cup of cereal milk ice cream with Cocoa Puffs as the topping instead. Fantastic stuff. Once again, being there too close to closing meant we had to wait, and we didn't get our ice cream until 9:30, a full 30 minutes after they closed. It was nice that they still served us though! One thing I did notice, which I don't know if it's a normal thing, is that since Hey Mikey's is the only ice cream shop open past 8 o'clock on most weeknights, they seem to get a lot of foot traffic after that time. Their menu is pretty large in its offerings. If it were just scoops of ice cream, the line would move fast, but so many people were ordering shakes, which are a lot more labor-intensive and removed a staff member from their assembly line to focus on the shake. I don't have any advice on how they could easily move the line in the later hours of the night, but man, those kids are working their butts off for everyone to get their late-night sweet treat. Hey Mikey's, you are just as good as I remember.
