We are from Florida, the original Sonny's location, so expect the same quality of food and *"service"* at those locations. This was an eat-in visit with 5 people. Well, the cole slaw and baked beans were good as is expected from the franchise. The ribs , both St Louis and Baby backs were dry, even with sauce on them, and we did not ask for sauce. Fries and toast were hot, so no issues there. The brisket was not so high quality. The chicken was fine. The issue at this location was the service, we had ordered " all you can eat ", which you have to ask for, it's not mentioned on the menu, but fyi they charge an extra $5 for the AYCE large plate. Plates were brought but used were not removed to make more room. Good service by our server on tea/drink refills however, and have no complaints about our server other than clearing the AYCE plates. We noticed that tables near us that were vacated were left for over 20 minutes and no one had cleared them by the time we left, in addition to our table not being cleared of the extra plates. The hostess seating other patrons, didn't see the need to help clear tables, she was only concerned with seating folks. Had to ask for a new ketchup bottle because the one at our table was empty. When we left and were checking out, several wait staff were just hanging out at the bar area chit-chatting, and tables were still in need of clearing. Needs some extra staff management. They will bring you wet naps and to-go boxes but you have to ask. Overall, though, a decent Sonny's BBQ experience. read more

I got a pork sandwich and fries. The sandwich was warm, the fries were cold. The waitress never returned to check on us until she was bringing the bill. She never told us we needed to pay her. Just walked off after giving us the bill and didn't come back. I spoke to the manager and he apologized and took the bill and didn't charge us. I wish the food or service would have been better. This review is 2 stars only because of the flavor of the food i received. Otherwise it would have been 1 star. Sonny's BBQ has amazing flavor, and I usually drive out of my way to enjoy their brisket, smoked turkey, and chicken. On 20JUL25, i decided to make the 90 minute journey from my home in Knoxville to the closest Sonny's to me, which happened to be this one. In order to ensure I had the freshest order i could get, I waited until I was at the parking lot before i placed my order on the website. There was no trouble using the website to order and pay, and the website informed me that my order would be ready for pickup at 1122 local time. I waited patiently in my car, then at 1122 I walked into the restaurant in order to pick up my order. I went to the to go counter and I waited......and I waited.... and I waited. I stood there for about 10 minutes and during that time not a single member of staff even thought it would be a good idea to at least say "hello" or acknowledge my presence at the counter. I should point out that I understand if a place is busy that they are so distracted that they might not be able to say anything to me, but this was not the case. the Host at the host stand was literally standing and doing nothing, and didn't have the idea to at least ask if i had been helped, 4 or 5 different servers looked in my direction, as well as at least 2 kitchen staff looked in my direction, and didn't have the thought to at least see if there was anything they could help me with. In a last ditch effort to get someone's attention, i decided to call the restaurant while i was still standing at the to go counter. The phone rang for a good minute, and not a single person tried to pick up the phone. after 15 minutes i walked out of the restaurant and decided to try to pick up in the drive through, I still had to wait another 5 minutes before someone answered on the loudspeaker. After telling them that i was picking up a to go order i pulled around and there was a car at the window. Another 5 minutes passed before I finally was able to pull up to the window and the drive through attendant handed me my food. I parked and started eating but while the food's flavor was amazing, sadly at this point most of the food was a lukewarm temperature at best because it had been sitting in the container for at least 20-25 minutes. I'm sorry, but no food is amazing enough to drive 90 minutes for just to receive terrible service, or in this case a lack of service. Got the three meat platter that included baby back ribs, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Brisket was a bit dry and didn't have any smoke flavor. Disappointing. Ribs were fall of the bone tender, pretty good. Jalapeño cheddar sausage was good. Sides were average. Nothing against Sonny's, but I have become a bbq snob. It was OK. I got take out and it was super easy to order and pick up the food. The food was ready right away. I got a sampler plate, smoked wings, a side salad, Arnold Palmer, and cinnamon donut holes. The hot foods were hot/warm and delicious. The stuff I got included smoked dark meat chicken (leg and thigh), brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, cornbread, mac n cheese, and baked sweet potato. My favorite things were the smoked wings with original bbq sauce, baked sweet potato, cornbread (it has kernels in it), Arnold Palmer, and the sweet tea sauce that goes over the cinnamon donut holes. Excellent barbecue! Baby back and St Louis ribs were both great with a slight nod to the St Louis! I even bought a pound and a half to bring home to Michigan! Food quality up to the Sonny's standard we have experienced our entire lives. More than 40 years eating at sonny's including the original Waldo road location in Gainesville, Florida. We had both sliced pork and pulled pork. Sliced pork was moist with perfect smoke ring. Ribs also were fall off the bone but not fragile. One order dry rubbed the other wet. Both were flavorful and had good crust. Baked beans continue to be distinctively wonderful. Garlic toast was fresh; crisp outside and soft inside. Cole slaw nice shred and flavor; theirs is a sweet version which comes to the table first while you wait for the rest of the food. Sweet tea always fresh and it did not disappoint. Overall wonderful location which was redecorated with the more recent branding. Server was attentive and efficiently pleasant. read more

Love the pulled pork and chicken.. sweet potato cooked perfectly and the baked bean recipe is special too! One of our favorites when making the trip to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park or The Florida Beaches! This trip the dinning room was closed due to the pandemic. The gal at the drive up was a sweetie. We picked up our favorite sliced brisket and sliced pork along with beans and garlic bread. Also they supplied paper plates, napkins, finger wipes, utensils and of course Sonny's original sauce! We bought enough for our lunch & sandwiches over the next couple days. Great services! I knew there was a Sonny's right down next to loves at Corbin I hadn't been there in quite a few years but I thought you know what let's give it a shot so I rolled into loves parked and meandered on over. This was early afternoon I walked in it was a little crowded but not too shabby they sat me down first thing I noticed it was quite clean. Well I didn't want to drink though I did notice they had no liquor and they said no we don't have a booze license hopefully we're going to get one eventually or the only few of the Sonny's that don't serve. So I peruses the menu and I opted for three meat combination cuz I'm a pig. I opted for the sweet and smoky baby back ribs barbecue chicken and the chopped brisket. The other side I went with were French fries and their baked beans and Coke zero. She put my order in I waited I noticed here like a classic barbecue joint in the South they don't know what napkins are they just put a great big roll of paper towels on the tables and use what you need and the refill is need be. The brisket was really good the chicken was very good and the ribs were tasty although next time though I probably would do 2meat I didn't need the three meat because with the garlic bread and I had an extra piece of that not realizing was a good chunk of it but all in all for the value it was really good and I left quite satisfied. But they almost needed a two-wheel car to wheel me out to my truck lol! And if I have a taste for some good old barbecue down in Southern Kentucky and I'm on interstate 75 between Lexington and Knoxville this is a Sonny's I still wouldn't hesitate to hit up. But if I was going to be there for the night I might get it to go and get a cold brew and eat everything and drink out of the truck but it is what it is for lunch though it was a very good mid-afternoon meal I was very full when I left. all in all even without the liquor keep up the good work at the sun is you guys definitely have one of the better franchises as far as putting out quality. read more

In Corbin for work. Sonny's was right next door AND got previous good reviews, so, gave them a try. Not horribly busy and was seated immediately. The waitress was quick to the table and I was already to order. Pulled chicken sandwich on garlic toast. Sides of green beans and crinkle cut fries. Well, can't say a lot about the sides. The fries were your normal, everyday fries and the green beans were typical green beans. BUT!! The pulled chicken was some of the best I've eaten. And I've had the opportunity to sample BBQ in quite a few places. This was really good!! I ate half the sandwich without adding any of their BBQ sauces. On the second half, I sampled the Hot sauce, the "original" and the Sweet. The Hot was just that, hot and a bit smoky tasting. Good, but I think it would've overpowered the great taste of the pulled chicken on it's own. The sweet was good, interesting? maybe. Nice sweetness to it, but a slight tinge of vinegar. The original, in my eyes, was the best. Nice smoky flavor, a touch of sweetness and just the right amount of vinegar flavoring that enhanced the chicken. First of all, the property is clean, well maintained, bright and nicely decorated. Our hostess and server were attentive and prompt. The server, especially, was very nice to us. My wife had the pulled pork, baked beans and cole slaw. Hers was tender, very tasty and appropriate temperature. I had sliced brisket, green beans and slaw. It was properly cooked and the beans were tasty. Our complaint, but not enough to take away a star, was that the cornbread was too sweet. My brisket could have had a better smoke ring, but it did have a nice crust (yes, I smoke meat at home and know about smoking meat). Meat could be left in the smoke a little longer. We have been eating at Sonny's BBQ for over 40 years mainly in Florida and it has always been a favorite. We stopped in Sonny's while visiting the Corbin KY area. We were not disappointed in any way. I had a combo baby back ribs and chicken, beans and fries and a big sweet tea. My wife had the smoked turkey sandwich on garlic bread, beans and fries. Both meals were served quickly, they were warm and didn't seem to have been sitting. Our server, Bryan, was very attentive, friendly and professional. Sonnys has become one of my favorite roadside food stops when driving south on I-75. I am a huge fan of bbq and would rather have barbecue than eat typical fast food any day. As soon as you get half way through KY Sonnys starts popping up and it pop up often. I have had a few visits here and I would highly recommend the smoked chicken. I have eaten the brisket, the ribs, wings, sliced pork and the chicken... the chicken was by far my favorite. As a BBQ fanatic I eat it everywhere and the chicken is the highest quality and consistent meat they serve at Sonnys. The prices at Sonnys are very fair. For around $10-$15 you get a nice sized meal with leftovers. We stopped here for dinner on our way to Asheville, NC. Sunny's is a chain mostly in the Appalachian area that I know of. Not wanting to stray too far off the freeway, my mother picked this chain restaurant. I ordered the Loaded Tots with beef brisket for the added protein. The tots were nothing special, crisp and fluffy. The brisket was tender and juicy, which went great with the fried crispy thin shoestring onion rings and melted pepper jack cheese. We stumbled upon this place as we were driving cross country. It was conveniently located next to a small truck stop. Since that first time, this is the spot we always hit during our travels. No matter what you order, you'll definitely have enough. And your drinks come in these huge cups that you won't even need a refill. Oh and don't forget the different sauces at every table. Ok. First I have to say I don't like to leave one star reviews. Most places usually have at least one good thing. The only good thing i got from here was a discount. I went on a Thursday evening at around 6:30 after traveling from Ohio. I was staying at one of the hotels nearby & Sonny's was highly recommended by the front desk clerk. She also told me they give a discount for hotel guests. I was sold! I ordered my food to go & was super excited for my half chicken. I got back to the hotel, opened the container & was shocked to see the driest chicken I have ever seen. The person in the kitchen who thought it would be ok to serve it should be absolutely ashamed and embarrassed. That chicken should have NEVER been served. And the green beans were insanely salty. It may have been a seasoning or something. So all i can really judge is presentation. I do not think I would try this place again. read more
