Haven't been to this Sonny's on Capitol Circle SE, Tallahassee in a year and so my wife and I took our grandchildren to the Sonny's The place was nearly empty, had no trouble parking or getting a table. Nonetheless, all of the food we ordered was served somewhere between lukewarm and cold. Aint nothing worse than French fries that are not hot, meat that is barely warm. I can only think of three factors that make the food cold. And that is the kitchen not notifying that the orders are cooked and ready to serve or a waiter that is languishing on the the job or understaffing in any of the departments. The absolute WORST experience we've ever had at any Sonny's EVER and we've been to Sonny's from St. Cloud, Fl to Tallahassee. We arrived and waited a few to be seated. Our waitress was a sweet girl who quickly took our drink and appetizer orders. Those came out quickly and then she took our food orders. I ordered the 2 meat 1/4 white and upgraded to baby back ribs for the extra $3 up-charge. My husband attempted to order the three meat plate but they were out of brisket and pork so he asked to do all you can eat ribs (St. Louis Style). My 15 year old wanted the brisket grilled cheese but had to order a burger. One of my other sons ordered chicken tenders. When the food came out, they had substituted my upgraded ribs for the St. Louis style ribs. No one had asked me if that was OK. They just decided to do it and told me about it when they brought out my plate. I refused those ribs because I do not like that style of rib. My husband ended up taking them on his plate and the waitress offered to bring me out another chicken breast and wing. I agreed and when she brought it out, it was dry! You can tell it had been sitting up there all day. My 15-year-old's burger was burnt. My other son's chicken tenders were burnt. I had them remake them and when they remade them, he bit into them and they were frozen on the inside and raw. I spoke to the manager, and although he was apologetic, he did not seem sincere. He remade more, but my son was afraid to eat them and ended up trashing them. The manager did say he was going to take care of our bill, but when the waitress came we were still charged for our drinks. The waitress asked if we wanted her to go and tell the manager to remove them and we told her no because we still wanted to tip her what the total bill would have been if we had to pay for it because it was not her fault. She was very apologetic and we could tell she felt bad about everything. I would not recommend this location! I wish I would have taken the time to read the reviews before bringing my family here but after being on the road for 12 hours, I just just wanted to sit down and be able to enjoy a meal and I regret it! Service was trying to keep up with all the orders, so even though it was online to go, I still had to wait a while. The food was piping hot and ready for consumption once received. My go to restaurant when in Tallahassee for church. I usually get a pound of brisket to go. For $27.00, I can eat for several days with it. When eating in I usually get the brisket grilled cheese. This was enhanced with the candied bacon and wish they would bring that back and make it a permanent menu item! Two meats is another favorite with the beans and rice. I know restaurants are having staff issues, but it's constant at this Sonny's. You can expect to wait up to 15 mins just to be seated, just because there is no one available to seat you. It was started by Floyd "Sonny" Tillman in Gainesville, Florida back in 1968 and has grown to well over a hundred locations across the southeastern United States. While I have had better barbecue than the food at Sonny's BBQ, I have to say that Sonny's BBQ is decent. Consistency is really a key when you deal with larger chain restaurants. A good example is Sonny's BBQ. They have over a hundred locations and to keep consistency is not easy. I have frequented this Sonny's for years. Today was easily my worst experience yet. After I ordered (it was just me eating there), I went to the restroom. When I returned there were people sitting at my table. The manager quickly recognized the issue and seated me at another table promising me this meal was on them. When the food arrived, the fries were undercooked though the hamburger was cooked to order. The check arrived meaning the meal was not on them. This is our second favorite Sonny's in town. It would be our first if it was closer to home because the overall feel when we dined in was better here and service is just a little bit better. It has been a brand new Sonny's twice courtesy of a massive fire that had them closed for an extended period of time. After a total demolish and rebuild, they had hardly been reopened when the pandemic hit. As a result, we have only used their drive through service so far but that has been a much better experience than at our usual Sonny's on N. Monroe. This bbq chain that originated in Gainesville Fl does a good job of consistently delivering tasty bbq. For a few years now they have been creating new menu items to keep their menu interesting. We love their smoked wings. A pound of their smoked turkey is a great alternative to take home for sandwiches. Much better than anything from the grocery deli. I have become enamored with their Smokin' Gun sandwich with chopped brisket, sausage, peppers and onions. It's always a taste treat. I think their crinkle cut fries are the best in town and their sweet tea is excellent. Our drive through experiences have been excellent with quick and accurate service done with a smile. read more

I ordered the brisket sandwich meal and it was the worse sandwich I had every had. Hardly NO meat on the sandwich and I had to take off most of it because of the fat. The bread was hard. I will not be back again. I'm not sure if all sonny's are this way but I'm done. Also, them taking the salad bar away was a BAD mistake. That was the #1 reason I went there to start with. I want to start off by saying that I really love Sonny's BBQ and can vividly recall how years ago on my first visit and in ordering fried okra, the basket was delivered to the table with a toothpick in one okra and a small container of ranch. Mind you, I had never heard of dipping okra in ranch dressing! Well, years later - and I still love it! In any case, I have not had a bad experience with the taste of this bbq; always scrumptious. My husband and I were in the mood for bbq this past weekend and we went through the drive-thru to place our order; the staff is always super nice and the food is always good; my only "small" issue is with the size of the sides! OMG, the servings seem to be more fitting for a child (child-sized servings). My husband ordered the Sonny's Sampler (ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork) which included ONE slice of garlic bread, with a baked potato and broccoli. I ordered smoked wings, green beans, and a baked sweet potato. I think my husband was able to get perhaps 3 fork-fulls of his broccoli; I think I may have gotten 4 fork-fulls, if that, of my green beans. Perhaps if our forks were smaller, we may not have noticed this issue so much, lol! We love going to this location on Timberline Road but there is always an issue at ever visit. Food is dependable and good, service is usually good, restaurant is clean. This time we went thru the drive thru for dinner and ordered our Pick 2 platters. Well I ordered the sweet potato for a side and only received cinnamon butter for it. No potato in the bag at all. Normally I don't get the cinnamon butter so this was a first. I have tried to call the restaurant tonight and both times placed on hold for over 15 min each. So now I have wasted 30 min of my evening to try and notify the restaurant of their mistake. To go Ordered 1 lb ribs and when I got home realized wasn't nearly a lb of meat--weighed 10 oz in box. Complained and I came back for another lb--server was gone 5 minutes scrounging up a pound in the back. The ribs I got were rubbed not the sweet and spicy I ordered. The second "pound" was 14 oz. I don't think this is a mistake but rather "shrink-flation" or they were out of meat and trying to stretch product. Either way 30 minutes of hassle to eat not great food. The Mac and cheese was not as good as normal. I was supposed to get a credit too but they were so behind and the staff so new, I didn't dare try. This place is terrible! Sonny's has always been known for being a great place to eat but this location is terrible. The bathroom is disgusting, the type of disgusting that a deep clean wouldn't even fix. And the food was not good, I'm fairly sure the baby back ribs had spoiled and had an extra covering of sauce to attempt to cover the smell. Before that we noticed that they were extremely difficult to get apart, it was so bad I almost felt like we were getting pranked. The server said that it wasn't uncommon for the ribs to be sent back. Also wrong and missing sides for the meals ordered also added to this poor review... Additionally the server had friends come in that they spent most of their time on the floor with. The food is good. The drive-thru is terrible. The last 2 times we've used the drive-thru we've been shorted an item each time. How difficult is it to read an order and put the correct number (and food items) in the bags. Perhaps a last minute check before the bags are handed to the customer should be done. This location needs more training and more staff. There were 4 of us and all 4 meals were cold. I ordered broccoli that seemed to be almost raw and barely warm, a cold sweet potato, no cinnamon butter, a salad and corn. I will say the corn was hot. Two others ordered sandwiches and that was all they got. They were cold and the waiter assumed they didn't want any sides so they didn't get any. And one of us got ribs and chicken which was also barely warm but he ate it anyway. We asked for a manager but got the hostess and she replaced some of the food for heated food. She said they were short staffed and the employees were new. Our meal was terrible! She told us another person's sandwich was cold as ice and she reheated it. Go somewhere else! Began at drive through. After sitting for 12 mins the car infront of us at the speaker box began to drive forward : only to drive off! Went inside and I asked a very unhappy, bothered employee " is the drive thru not working?" Her response, " aint no one over there" I am to figure out myself that the drive through is not an option to order, nor did she ask me if i wanted to order - Meanwhile, 2 others sitting in the lobby overheard and said they sat there for almost half an hour! I ordered two sandwiches togo. After 45 minutes, I was given my order, with dry meat and no sauce. Meanwhile watched the phone ring constantly, customers stand a the counter for more than 10 minutes, unattended, people clocked in and clocked, acting like no one was around or perhaps needed something, no employee cared. AND women's stall in bathroom had no TP. Pathetic customer service! I have worked hospitality for over 15 years, all of my experience at this Sonny's was disgraceful to others in the industry. Online order experience was awful. Was still missing half of the order after they at first tried to send me out the door without the kids meals. Once I received the kids meals they double checked my order and said everything was there l.
