    Cheese Fries.
    Claire M.

I am vibing with this spot. Loved the inside, very cozy down to earth bar feeling. The person that took my order and checked me out was super friendly. I enjoyed their crazy dogs and the cheese fries were fire. What's unique about this spot is you can choose the type of dog you want and they even have Schickhaus which is the best brand in my opinion. You can also choose grilled, dirty water (boiled like the Sabrett stand), or FRIED. I'll be back!

Wonderful family-run business with some of the friendliest service I've ever experienced, complemented by a menu adorned with creative items and affordable pricing. The crab cake sandwich was prepared with attention to detail, crafting a flat patty with a pleasant balance of crab and seasoning that perfectly fits onto the brioche bun with a fresh aioli and layer of lettuce and tomato. Bruce Springsteen would enjoy his Springsteen hot dog, which tasted Italian with fresh cherry peppers and a solid level of spice topping a 'dirty water' dog with a pleasant snap indicative of proper cooking. Growing up Italian I felt right at home among the Godfather posters and mostly Italian decor. Do note they're BYOB despite the signs for beer and liquor. Sonny's is a phenomenal grill that will appeal to just about any customer, located within the heart of Belmar as a fine addition to the dining scene.

Was in the mood for a quality burger the other night and we stumbled upon Sonny's. The atmosphere is fun, photos all over the walls of old celebrities. My parents would really get a kick out of the decor. We were greeted upon walking in, and decided to dine in. I made my own burger, with mozzarella and blue cheese, lettuce, pickles, and their zesty sauce. Definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had, so flavorful and juicy. The fries were also very good, crispy and yummy. The burger was huge, so I did have to take the rest home. Will definitely be back here.

What a cute place! Food was delicious. Had a Jerry Seinfeld yummo and disco fries. Great ambiance and as soon as it opened people were coming in, great sign. Can't wait to go back! BYOB

So-called "Award winning" buffalo wings. They were fried to death to the point that all the bones were dry and broken.

By far the worst service I've had in years. We ordered onion rings, which were great, that came out immediately no plates, no silverware, waitress was nowhere to be seen, we also ordered buffalo wings. The burgers came out less than two minutes later. I ordered medium rare and it was well done and super salty. The fries were really good and well seasoned. The wings were MIA. The waitress did not bring silverware and was in the back so I had to go to the counter to ask for it and the plates. Then the wings came and they were way over fried and cost $12 for 6 segments--ridiculous. I had to go back to the counter to send back my burger. The waitress was totally not friendly at all and totally avoidant. This was such a crappy experience and was a huge disappointment. This place was an absolute waste of time.

I can't believe i've never been here and I actually live in Belmar. Great little gem in the heart of this beach community. Not fancy inside it's very casual. Love all the old time pictures hanging on the walls. It feels very homey. They also have picnic tables which are great for large groups and people with kids. It's also a byob which is a plus! I was craving a hotdog and ordered the schickhaus deep fried. It came out grilled but I was so hungry I just devoured it anyway. lol My boyfriend ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I took bite out of that too. Even though my boyfriend hates to part with his food. lol. It was cooked perfectly and so flavorful and juicy. We also ordered the wings and rings. The wings were great but to be honest, I didn't care for the calamari and the onion rings could have been more crispy. It seemed like they weren't very hot temperature wise. Which was surprising because they were deep fried. They had cold patches. All in all, I will definitely return and next time bring some beer and wine.

So this was my second time at Sonny's. Today I tried the "dirty water" chili dog. Brought our own beer to wash everything down with. They supply the glasses. The chili dog was AMAZING!!! Had that nice pop when you bite into the dog. Juicy and fresh. The jalapeño poppers were HOT as in heat and the cheese was tasty. Definitely a fav. I love their fries, they aren't greasy at all. You gotta try this place. I've had the burger before and it was a hit too. Great picnic table style eating, staff are super nice and accommodating. Whatcha waiting for??! Go.

Springsteen, nice spicy kick to it.

Was so excited to find a good dog place within driving distance. Sonny's is in the Belmar strip mall between 8th & 10th, tucked with several other restaurants. It's got a great old school smokey tavern vibe to it. Service is outstanding and the food is lights out! Indoor and outdoor tables, about 6 in and 4 big picnic tables out. Great menu with tons of signature dog choices as well as full list of burgers and great looking sandwiches we cant wait to go back and try. Kids got plain grilled dogs (dogs come grilled or dirty water dog). Wife got Chicago and 1 with sauerkraut/spicy mustard, neither lasted long. I had the Texan, Antonio and Springsteen. All 3 were excellent but Springsteen & Texan were my favs. Their chili is really good and hearty. 2 orders of cheese fries and a food coma later and we were all very happy! We called ahead 10 mins to pick up but when we found out they had seating we stayed. Food came out right after our drinks, perfect timing. Recommend if going on a busy night to call ahead and reserve a table if you want to dine in/out. Will def be back, great food, great service, cool atmosphere!

Amazing phenomenal delicious ... I can't use enough adjectives to describe how great this place is. Every time my boyfriend and I go we insistent on trying something new - because everything on the menu looks phenomenal. One thing remains steady in our order - chili cheese fries!! Their chili is to die for. On top of amazing food - the staff is great. LOVE them and everything about Sonny's. The best!

This place was on my list and decided to go check it out. I got the Chicago dog and Nikki dog. They both were delicious with the disco fries as well. Service was slow but the employees apologized and they were very understanding and nice about it. They gave 20% off our bill. The place itself was cool inside with all the pictures on the walls. Next time gotta try the burgers

We don't come as often as we used to because yes it is pricey but I would much rather come here and have a special night with incredible service, food, and drinks than still spend over $100 at another restaurant and get average food. The Grand Tavern is unpretentious, welcoming, entrees offer sizable portions. I have NEVER left hungry. Main complaints I see are price - again, yes it's expensive but it's worth it. Also you can see the menu before you go, how do you not know what you're walking into?? Complaints about the burger. First of all the menu changes seasonally. There's no way their patty is frozen. Everything is FRESH AF. And yeah, American cheese is king on a burger. Again, it's on the menu what did you expect? This is a restaurant that has literally never disappointed. I will always save my pennies for a great night out here. Everyone's entitled to their opinion obviously but entitlement is a hell of a drug. Check out the menu and have a great night.

After extending our stay to enjoy the view, with one more drink each, I wanted to check this place out. The not so friendly female bartender advised me there was a private party on the first floor and to go upstairs by stairs or elevator. Okay. So, anyway, I notice in the elevator there's a 3rd floor (roof top) and wanting to prolong our day out, I say, hold the elevator while I take peek on the rooftop venue. Very inviting, so we go to the rooftop, not crowded, and the bartender was fairly quick to take my beer order. I like IPA's and had a hazy, which she suggested. We sit across from a couple on the couch. I decide on lobster roll sliders. I have a feeling it'll take forever for a server to approach, so I order at the bar and point to where we're sitting and pay in advance. The food comes quickly and I have my cash tip ready and the server very sweetly accepted it. The bread was delicious. Not so much lobster, but the bread and combo made it very tasty. $20 for 6. I wouldn't buy if hungry, but it was a decent appetizer, if a bit pricey, during these crazy times and crazy prices we're all experiencing now Our companions (we were sitting in one of the couch area conversational pits) mentioned his partner was unaware he was paying $17 a pop for a glass of white wine, and had just plunked down $34 for two barely half glasses of wine. Um, no. My beer was the usual expected price. The lobster sliders were on soft, tender, fresh mini rolls that were slightly sweet, like "Hawaiian" bread. Decently priced beer. Enjoyable views. And I took special notice that the barriers were slightly above waist high (I'm 5'6") with plenty of space between the barriers and the ground below - just in case your drunk a* decides you can fly. Lol! Good choice! Nice views. Bathroom was clean, but I can imagine the nightmare when packed, as there were only two unisex bathrooms. The Xtra levels would, hopefully take up any slack. A lot of beer houses do not serve food in NJ, so that's a plus. I would definitely check this place out again or go the first time, especially with a date!

So just to be safe, I did make a reservation right when the restaurant opened. Seems to say I played it a bit too safe, I was the only one i there for the first 20-min.! In any case, then dining area was very bright and open, and I was seated near the window, which I enjoyed. I tried three foods, appetizer-entree-dessert, here's the breakdown: 1) Appetizer: Pan Roasted Achiote Octopus ($22) which has Shaved Pickled Carrots & Onions, Chermoula. For 1 person, this was quite substantial and a delicious start to the meal. The octopus wasn't tough, it was cooked perfectly, with a nice char-grilled flavour. Paired up with the accoutrements, it was a 10/10 way to begin my meal! 2) Entree: Grass-Fed Beef-Roasted Marrow Burger ($26) which has Raclette Cheese, Caramelized Onion-Tomato Jam, Fresh Baked Gluten Free Brioche Bun, & Beef Tallow Fries. Why 4-stars? Because of this item. The day I arrived the restaurant was trying their new "Baked Gluten-Free Brioche" on me, apparently I was one of the first --- the bread was dry AF, lol! I loved the burger --- the marrow taste, the raclette cheese --- I sing their praises, but wrong day to test out the "test bread"! It ended up on a Yelp Review. Hopefully the bread-recipe has been improved on after this review. PS: The onion-tomato jam perfectly pairs with the richness of the marrow burger. 3) Lastly, I ordered for dessert the bread pudding. They don't put their desserts on the menu, but if you ask the server they will let you know what the restaurant has for the day. I believe it's seasonal as well. It was average at best, good ---- but didn't stand-out. Overall, I'd totally recommend a stop-by if you're in the area! It's always awesome visiting these sites features on DDD, and tasting for yourself the hype behind their food!
