We love taking our dog on vacation so, we are always looking for dog friendly hotels. This review is in between a 4 and a 5. The kindness of the staff makes it a five. Pros: this was a very charming estate and the staff was beyond kind to both of us and our pup. He was welcome everywhere except the dining room, the pool and spa. The room was very cute and clean. The only downside for me and my allergies is that there is wood fireplace in each room. The bathroom had plenty of hot water. The breakfast was from 8-10 am in the dining room and had a decent meat-less spread. Toast, bagels, oatmeal and toppings, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, fruit salad, coffee, tea assortment and juices. The grounds are super cute and weather permitting there is a movie playing on a projector with complimentary s'mores to cook on the outdoor wood fire. Since we had our dog, we didn't use the pool or spa. "Aunt Kay" we interacted with the most and was so kind to both of us and Dio. She made our stay! Not only was she informative but also checked in on us when we we'd pass through the lobby. Dio was a big fan of her. Cons: if you have allergies or are sensitive to wood smoke, this is not your destination. Again, there are wood burning fireplaces in each room and a large fire pit by the movie. The room we stayed at is across from the pool and it can get noisy. You can also hear everyone that walks in front of your room. Along with that there is a lot of wildlife, so you may need ear plugs. If you need to sleep in the dark, the front blinds are going to still let in light, so bring a sleep mask. Update: we got a text that I forgot my socks in the room. They offered to mail them to us, we declined. I don't remember the last time house keeping and the front office too the time to be that considerate. read more

I'm a local and I've attempted to contact the Sonoma Coast Villa to book a staycation by phone in an effort to talk to a real person about the difference between a couple of rooms. I finally got a hold of the reservation person, not on site, (the last three days I tried to call this place twice they did not pick up, and just now, I was in the middle of the conversation, and was hung up on). Further, before I actually spoke to this person just now, I sent them not one, but two emails in the last four days via their own website, and have not received a response. My friend and I did a staycation at this facility a few years ago and enjoyed our stay. However, it does not appear that customer service exists at this place anymore. Since they've made it blatantly clear they don't need my business, I'll make sure any of my out of town friends and family looking to stay on our coast, know exactly where NOT to stay. read more

My husband and I came here 10 years ago under previous management. Then, I accidentally booked the same place with credit card points, so we were surprised to be here so many years later. It was a great choice! The room and bathroom are really spacious, clean, and the two king beds are huge in the room. It's a great amount of space for a couple or larger group. Lounging here or in one of the several communal areas is welcoming. The grounds are better kept than many years ago, but there are still some pockets that could use some care. But the reception Chex mix/ wine, movie night with s'mores, lawn games, make the larger property feel cozy. And while I didn't get to the jacuzzi or pool, I wish I had! What made me write this review though, is the gluten free and dairy free options for breakfast. They have homemade bread to toast which had me coming back for seconds. Usually, gluten free is so disappointing, but not here. Delicious! On top of all this was friendly and informative staff. Lovely stay. Hopefully, we'll be back in another 10 years. read more

I have to admit I'm rather mixed about this Sonoma resort hotel. The website photos made it look quite luxuriant, but the reality is that the place felt dated in a state of flux in relation to getaway poshness. When Jamie W and I decided to spend a weekend in Bodega Bay, this looked like it had possibilities. We definitely liked receiving a complimentary glass of red wine upon check-in. On the upside, the room we reserved was huge with a fireplace and a sofa (photo: https://yelp.to/3BBzS2VVks). Of course it should be nice for $450 a night (tax included). The Australian rain shower head was a plus in the huge shower stall, and the double sink vanity was set far apart. The cracks started to show with the TV where we discovered our selection menu was stuck on straight porn. Just our luck. It was obviously the preference of the previous room occupant. To no avail, the staff was not able to rectify the situation. Not even local channels were available, so we decided to refocus on the fireplace. Despite several attempts to spark a lasting flame, the logs just refused to ignite. We were left with the jacuzzi which was already overrun with unsupervised rambunctious children. That left us alone with our iPhones to watch videos reflecting our own proclivities. Gee, we could've done that at home. We did take advantage of the complimentary s'more kits but only after they were ransacked by the families occupying the other rooms. There was a play area in the back where a family was playing badminton in the late afternoon. It doubles as an outdoor movie theatre at night. My husband and I LOVED staying here for our anniversary ! So much so that I think more than half of my photos from our trip to the area were taken here. We wanted to spend our first anniversary in the Bodega Bay Area and looked up this place which was beautiful and in such a stunning location. It also did not cost as much as the other lodging locations in the area as it is not right by the coast (it's about 10 minutes away) but the whole area feels so idyllic and is also so nicely secluded. The hotel is quite small, only 20-ish rooms, so the parking lots were not huge as well. You drive up through this long driveway with bushes on either end to a super charming building where the lobby and dining room are. The staff were so friendly and even offered us some wine and fresh, house-baked chex mix upon our arrival. Unfortunately, my husband and I do not drink a ton of wine so we only took the chex mix, but it tasted really good ! I took so many photos of the lobby area as their walls were basically windows and the decor was so lovely with the lighting from the sun coming in. Our room was maybe about a 30 second walk away from the lobby, so as we walkd there, we had the chance to past the really stunning, bath-house looking jacuzzi, as well as the small pool sitting opposite from it. The architecture of the whole place is really charming as well, and there is also this some recreation area where you can play volleyball, baseball, mini golf, cornhole, pickleball, and probably some other things. There's also this firepit area where they play movies at (weather permtting) every night at 7:45 pm and they provide complimentary s'mores kits ! Anyways, the room that my husband and I booked was really spacious, with a huge bathroom (double doors, in fact), two nice chairs and a table next to a lovely fire place, a king-size bed, a desk, TV with a dresser, and a fridge. Our room also had this patio on the side with outdoor chairs, tables, and umbrella. I wish we got to use the fire place, as they even provided matches and a log, but we didn't get the chance to. Oh also probably the pimary reason we picked this place is because they have complimentary breakfast ! They had your typical American hotel breakfast items (toast, bagel, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea), but then also their own hot breakfast items, which were these super delicious tamales pie and egg florentine the two mornings we were there. The breakfast room was also super charming, and speaking of rooms, there was also this small reading & game corner above the lobby that you can access via this narrow spiral staircase that was very charming as well. The site of the hotel feels deep in nature or sort of like this big, well-maintained garden. I could see, for example, how lovely it could be for someone to host a wedding or other kind of events here. There was also this big sort of conference room where I think there was some kind of program/retreat going on when we were there, and I also totally understand how this place would be a great retreat venue ! I would not mind coming here for a retreat and not really leaving the site much. Speaking of the nature though, one of my faovrite parts of this site was this small somewhat hidden pond all the way in the back of the property, where they had some chairs and tables facing the water. That area looked particularly beautiful during sunset. Also this place is pet-friendly ! So we saw a few canine guests. My husband and I are highly contemplating returning maybe for another one of our anniversary trips (and maybe will bring a dog too ;) Some pointers I wanted to make that the hotel could improve on: - The showers in the rooms have these anti-slip stickers which I think are useful, but many are peeling off and/or turning yellow - which was kind of gross. - At one point during breakfast, the hot water ran out and I could not find staff to help, so I went to the front desk to notify them but either they ignored me or did not hear me. - The jacuzzi will sometimes have a lot of insects/dead bugs in the water. Granted, the site is in the middle of nature, but that was also quite offputting. We eventually noticed some nets on the side of the jacuzzi room that we could have used to get the bugs out. They placed us in room #1 just like you've heard in other reviews it is horrible! Old and smells musty, part of the shade at the front door is still broken and the bed closest to the entrance had a broken leg. Ugly plant at the entrance. Old weeds growing at the back window! Love this vacation stay -- super nice people and very dog friendly. We loved the location and loved how relaxing the area felt. Our dogs loved how hospitable everybody was around them. The room was very nice on the corner and we were able to walk around the area and enjoy some of the scenes directly from the hotel. This is the second year in a row that my husband and I have celebrated our anniversary at Sonoma Coast Villa. We have a connection to the area since my husband proposed down the road, and it's always a special trip for us to head back to Dillon Beach/Valley Ford/Bodega Bay. The villa was spacious, with plenty of room for us to relax and enjoy each other's company. We had access to a private hot tub and a fireplace in our room which was a great way to end each night. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, providing us with all the amenities we needed for a romantic getaway. They even provided us with complimentary champagne to celebrate. Walk down to the pond, put a ball around on the putting green or enjoy an evening by the communal fire pit.... When the weather is better there are a number of things to keep you entertained on the premises. We were able to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast each morning which included bacon, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, yogurt, baked goods and more. They also kept snacks available in the lobby throughout the day. We brought our own snacks from home and kept them in our generously sized mini fridge back at the room. We will definitely be back to the Sonoma Coast Villa and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious and romantic getaway. read more

It shouldn't advertise itself as a "premium" (except for the pricing) boutique hotel because it is poorly maintained, lacking in support, and misleading in the overall amenities; what a disappointment when you walk through the broken gate as you enter your patio, then open the door to see the window blinds hanging diagonally, the fireplace door open and the gasket hanging out; Sad that this is even rented out... What an absolute treat of a getaway for us. The entire property was so sweet. A true spotlight to Kendra, what a gem of a human being. She was so thoughtful and easy to chat with. Our room was spotless and just a beautiful space to spend time in. The spa was clean and indoors which made it great. Sonoma Coast Villa is a fantastic place for a relaxing weekend getaway. Things I love about this property: -It only has 18 rooms so it feels really peaceful and private. -The staff are friendly and super helpful. They confirmed my booking through email, text and a personal phone call. They even gave me detailed local restaurant recommendations over the phone. -The drive to get here is gorgeous. Miles of bucolic farmland and rolling hills. -The rooms are clean, spacious and have wood-burning fireplaces. -It's dog friendly. -The outdoor spaces are beautiful. Check out the spacious lawn in the back and wander down the back pathway to a pond with Adirondack chairs nearby. -The breakfast is delicious. Just the nicest people. The grounds seem to go on forever, and there are lots of places to walk around and get lost with your doggo. There is a small pool and a weird little jacuzzi room (that I didn't see anyone use), a lovely dining room, complimentary breakfast, and a glass of red wine on arrival. They play a movie every night around 8pm and provide s'more packets to roast on the fire. These cute little touches make up for the funky furniture and weird architecture. It's a little rundown, but the coffee was good and I liked my private patio to watch the sun set. I'd definitely stay again. Two words of caution though: It is on the highway so you will hear car traffic, trucks, and the occasional deafening motorcycle to snap you out of your relaxation. And the Wi-Fi is terrible, so don't expect to stream any movies or get any work done. read more

Don't bother!! For the price, this "luxurious" hotel is about as opulent as a motel 6. The room was a tacky combination of European, Asian and garage sale finds. Bad taste aside, the furniture was worn, cheap, torn, and just plain ugly. There was also the addition of a portable A/C until in the room, which added to the tasteless decor. Outside the room wasn't much better, the pool was extremely small, the hot tub was tiny and closed at 9:00. There was a small fire pit and outdoor movie, which was a cute idea-but, again, cheaply done. Fake plants adorned the common spaces- small bouquets or real plants would have been so much nicer. Overall, we felt completely ripped oft paying close to $500. (Including a "resort" fee ). The one shining star- the lovely young lady that checked us in was very friendly and kind. I don't think many of the positive reviews on this property are real and I would look for other alternatives than this money pit.. seriously. read more

I proposed to my now fiance while staying here and Kendra and the staff were AMAZING!! Kendra helped me organize the rest of our families with booking and helped me keep it a secret the entire time to surprise my fiance. Kendra and her staff were key to making it such a special weekend and surprise for us. The hotel was amazing too and the suite we had in Room 4 was beautiful with a gorgeous rock fireplace. The staff also hosts a movie each night on a projector outside with fire pits and smore kits. Everything was extremely clean and was also pet friendly and made bringing our dog very easy. I was wanting a little getaway to Bodega Bay and needed a place to stay. I had a couple of places in mind, until I found this place posted on Facebook. So I decided to look further into possibly stay here for a couple of nights. After my investigation, I decided to stay here rather the other places I was thinking about staying. Boy did I make the right decision... This is a very nice boutique/spa hotel slightly inland (about 10 minute drive) to the ocean. The beautiful grounds & architectural buildings are in a nice spacious layout, friendly service (Customer's needs are important), hot tub, pool, outdoor & in room fireplaces, jacuzzi tub, nightly outdoor movies w/s'more fixings, small putting green, bocce ball and continental breakfast (Daily). Included in our room upon arrival was our choice of very nice bottle of wine (Red or White - Your choice) and enough firewood to last you a couple of days. All the rooms had their own private patio or courtyards. Ours came with a private courtyard with table and chairs to relax and enjoy the outdoors. read more

This place is amazing. Outstanding. Incredible. I have been to several countries and around our own country, and this is hands down one of my favorite locations of all time. Beautiful grounds with an extremely friendly and kind staff. They give you a call a few hours prior to check-in to make sure everything is going fine. We were walked to our room. There is nice variety of the complimentary breakfast. An indoor jacuzzi which was awesome. A pool meant for relaxing rather than laps. Also, I want to thank the property so much for allowing drinking in the jacuzzi, the plastic, not glassware is completely understandable. As for my favorite things: there is a gorgeous pond at the back of the property with seating areas where you can enjoy a bottle you brought. At night they set up a fire pit, play a movie, AND give you s'mores to make at the pit! The hospitality and friendly staff go to such lengths that will always set the bar for me now. After having issues with an online booking service, the GM Jill went out of her way to make sure the dates and refund were set right! The area is GORGEOUS all around. You're minutes away from Bodega Bay, San Rafael, Petaluma, and Sebastopool. The grounds are safe, quiet, and immaculate. I watched The Birds by a bonfire with complimentary s'mores. The king suite was spacious. I'm gigantic and still fit comfortably in the jacuzzi. The fireplace was a cozy touch as well. Sonoma Coast Villa was a fantastic place to relax away from the dumbery of city life. What was intended to be a one-time splurge will definitely be a repeat experience. $659 for two nights so we expected luxury - umm nope! 4th of July weekend 2020, booked this room on June 30, and paid in full. I knew it was last minute, everything else was booked, it was expensive but from what I read and from the pics it seemed worth it. BTW, I never complain about anything and rarely write reviews but I feel I must warn other travelers before you book here. It is not a luxury resort. A reasonable rate for this place would be around $130 per night max. We grossly overpaid. When I arrived I thought it was a cute place, good check in, friendly, fast and easy, the room was nice. But the first thing I discovered was that my bathroom trash had not been emptied from the previous guests. Ugh. Not a good sign. Next I looked for my complimentary bottle of wine.. that was supposed to be waiting in the room for me. Not there. No cups, no wine opener, no coffee cups. Guess they forgot. The fridge did have continental breakfast items for two mornings. Oj, yogurt, cuties, and homemade granola bars plus four boxes of water. They were quick to remedy the trash situation and brought the wine and cups etc - very apologetic and accommodating. I felt bad bothering them for all these things. Later I learned that the tv in the room did not work. Oh well, not the end of the world. We made due with a DVD player they brought us and they had quite a few old movies to choose from. Just trying to go with the flow and enjoy. That night we tried to start a fire in the fireplace but the starter pieces and tinder wood were not there. I guess those were also supposed to be in the room but were forgotten so we had to ask for them. They brought those to us quickly and again apologized offering a split of champagne for all the inconvenience. Around 9 pm we realized that the room heater did not work. The staff left at 8pm and it's not like there was too much they could do - so we just froze all night. Brrr. The next day we took off for the day and came back in the late afternoon...only to find out there was no room cleaning service. This would have been a good thing to know. I like my room made up each day, especially in a "luxury" resort. Oh well, no biggie we just need some extra towels and since there is no heater in our room can we bother you for a space heater. Sure. Here's another bottle wine and a $68 credit for the trouble. Ok thanks but if the room had no tv service, no heating and no maid service what the heck are we paying for?? The staff tried to be accommodating. I think they felt bad about all the trouble which I did appreciate but I would not stay here again. I'm including a picture of the shower floor... it needs bleaching and it grossed me out. I could not tell if the place had maybe been closed because of corona for many months or if it was just old and run down. We took a walk around the property... and I could see how it might have been super beautiful when it was younger but it has not been restored to its glory days and is not being cared for properly. Maybe due to corona? I don't know. I hope this helps other buyers beware. It is not a luxury retreat so keep that in mind when booking. Don't overpay! The restaurant and spa were closed due to corona. Must wear masks. And be careful turning into the driveway coming from Bodega. There is no left turn lane and we were almost rear ended by a trucker who wasn't paying attention, four cars had to swerve out of the way to avoid being hit. It was scary!! read more

My wife and I stayed here about a week ago. We were so impressed with the hospitality and the staffs friendliness. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine while sitting up at the pond in complete privacy, other than the Texas Longhorns grazing the hillside. DO NOT STAY HERE! The place is rundown. We had to change rooms at 10pm with 2 small kids because the lights above the beds would not turn off! The switch was hidden behind the headboard and the staff was not aware of it. The jacuzzi was filthy. They had one person on staff on a Friday night. The poor guy was stressed. It's sad that it seems it was a nice property that is not being maintained and is short staffed. It seems the owners are cheap and not willing to pay for maintenance or proper staffing. It's also in the middle of nowhere so make sure you have food with you, but don't rely on the in-room refrigerators working. Ours made a high pitched buzzing noise periodically through the night. A relaxing weekend gone awry. read more

The grounds are gorgeous. This place could be so much better. Especially for you pay I have stayed a cheaper hotels that were nicer. First of all we arrived at 6:30 pm so not too late. The hotel was empty finally managed to flag someone down who wanted us to wait 25 minutes before we checked in. He was the only one there and had already clocked out for his break. Then we were handed cheap wine in plastic glasses at check in. I would expect a nice glass of local wine in stemware from a place like this. Then we get to our room the decor was very gody. The soap dispenser fell off the wall. The tub jets sound like the motor was going to break through the tub and didn't work. The room still had sheet rock on the floor from when the cable was installed and not patched the hole in the wall. We asked for a late check out of noon and were confirmed. House keeping knocked on our door at 11:30 we told them we had a late checkout at noon then again at 11:50 where we informed them again that we had a late check out. When we checked out they had at least 4 employees not including the house keeping staff. There a few things that would go along way to make this a better experience. If they had more staff a restaurant and a bar they would easily make back the investment. It doesn't cost much to do the little touches of vacuuming up the sheet rock patching the wall securing the fixtures better. You can buy cheap glasses that look nicer and nicer local wine for extra touches. Making sure tubs are working can be expensive but is a must for a place like this. We chose Sonoma Coast Villa for our night and made dinner reservations for that evening. We arrived at the hotel and went to our room. I'm not sure why this hotel has such good ratings. Please be aware that the room was not only not sanitized, (as stated on website) it was dirty. The bed linens were dirty. There were large toenail clippings on the very dirty floor. The shower curtain liner was clearly not clean. I'm not sure why this hotel has good ratings, I'm baffled. We called the front desk and briefly explained. They said someone would be up to clean in 15 minutes. Not five minutes later, two women walked in. They acknowledged the way the room was and said that we would get a refund but there was no one to clean the room. So we are in Sonoma for one night for our anniversary with dinner reservations and no where to stay. I mentioned that to the manager who was standing in our room and she stated "Well, at least you'll get a refund". What?!?! I feel that they should have gone above and beyond to get that room clean. If they couldn't, they should have helped us find a room somewhere else for the night. All around, this is not a 4-star hotel. Please see pictures. read more

Location Location Location - Excellent Staff, nice immensities, beautiful grounds, and spacious private rooms!

What a fantastic place! Stayed one night on 9/10 - 11. Wonderful staff, excellent breakfast and special treats of cookies and chex mix when we arrived. Movie at night around the fire pit while given the 'makings' for s'mores! The grounds, room and villa looked like something out of Italy. Visiting again for sure. read more

The pictures on the website are beyond deceiving. Also beware, they do not tell you at check in, but this is a hotel, $325 a night. We got back to our room after being gone all day and room was not cleaned. Called to front desk and got "oh, we do not clean the rooms". Wow, it is a hotel! We had to ask for clean towels and a garbage bag to empty our own garbage. Convinced all the good reviews are somehow paid for the reviews! Makes no sense, pictures are worth 1,000 words. read more
