Since we were staying upstairs at the Valley Ford Hotel, it was an easy decision to have dinner at Rocker's Roadhouse. We're glad we did. We ordered the Coastal Tacos (rock cod) and Fried Chicken Sandwich. At first we were concerned that it might not be enough for us, but when the food came, we realized our worries were for naught. Both the tacos and the sandwich were quite large and also quite messy, but if a taco or fried chicken sandwich is not a little messy, it's probably not very good! The decor retains the flavor of the building's roots. I seem to recall reading that it was a stage coach stop (or railroad stop?) during an earlier life, which is completely believable since it was built in 1864. Rustic, but with some modern touches. We plan to stay at the Valley Ford Hotel again, and when we do, we'll wander down the stairs to Rocker's Roadhouse for dinner. I hope there's oyster Po' Boys on the menu by then! read more

When Rocker Oysterfeller moved from Valley Ford to Bodega Bay, the Valley Ford site became Rocker's Roadhouse featuring a Southern-centric menu. Somewhere along the line yelp reviews for Rocker Oysterfeller in Valley Ford became yelp reviews for Rocker's Roadhouse prompting this update. Ages ago I happily awarded 5-stars to Rocker Oysterfeller but when I came to Rocker's Roadhouse for lunch on a recent Monday afternoon things were decidedly not 5-star. The bar area that one enters first had no patrons despite a table of dirty dishes remaining. When we announced we'd like to stay for lunch we were asked to wait while a table in the dining room was cleared. That's exactly what was cleared: one table in the dining room. There were two other tables of customers in the dining room and now a single clean table. Every other customer-free table in that room was stacked with dirty dishes left by previous customers. This wasn't just unappetizing. It was disgusting and we opted not to stay for lunch. I'm hoping this was some sort of aberrant situation as opposed to standard operating procedure. C'mon Rocker's Roadhouse, get your act together. read more

After reading an online article on "15 Coastal Restaurants ...from Stinson Beach to Bodega Bay," we realized we had visited most of the places highlighted, but not Rocker's. With sunny weather, we set off for a coastal drive that took us to Rocker's in Valley Ford. Historically, Valley Ford was a hub for dairy and cattle ranching, and it appears the building here dates back to that time, with its period charm. We had a friendly server, and she recommended a local IPA and a Humboldt cider on tap, and outlined menu recommendations. We ordered a smoked chicken salad, with beer can chicken, and a creamy clam chowder, served with toast. Both were solid. The restaurant sources ingredients from local farms and they serve a Sunday brunch. At the time we visited, they had an online offer that would make a future visit an even better value. read more

Rocker's Roadhouse was definitely a surprise! At a first glance, they didn't seem to offer much, however, they actually had excellent service and delicious food (except for the Fried Chicken Plate). The fried chicken plate just lacked flavor. It is nowhere on par compared to the other dishes they offered. The smash burger was delicious, juicy and flavorful. I wanted to like this place so bad! I am local to the area and we need a restaurant like this. BUT, wait staff couldn't seem to handle a hand full of tables. They seemed frantic even though the place was pretty quiet. It was weird. I ordered the fried chicken plate. What I was able to taste was like they took chicken fried from over the weekend, dipped it in more batter re-fried it and put it on my plate. I described it as un penetrable. Just 3 of us wanted a simple Thanksgiving dinner in a simple place where we could drive up the coast leisurely with the dogs, then have a meal. Rocker's Roadhouse fit all our needs. We made reservations and you prepay for the meals. So if you order add-ons, they will use the same credit card as it's added to your tab. We started with the add-on of a dozen oysters and they were great. I'd expect nothing less considering the location. We also ordered cocktails and beer...they use soju which is perfectly fine with me...and you can get the same cocktails as non-alcohol versions, I believe. The amuse-bouche was a fried delicata squash meant to look like onion rings and they were terrific. We then all started with the parsnip-roasted apple soup (instead of choosing the salad option) and it was wonderful. On to the mains...turkey for 2 and none for me (sadly no turkey substitutions for this pescatarian...I don't really mind because Thanksgiving has always been about the sides for me, but it would be great to offer a little something). Mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing and pull-apart rolls. All the sides were truly excellent - flavorful and exactly like you want them to tasted - but the pull-apart rolls truly stood out. It wasn't just butter - there was something else beside the flaky sea salt - that made me want to eat the entire plate. Everyone agreed with me. I will dream about those rolls. At this point I was stuffed so went out to relieve the dogs who were in the car napping (EVERYONE had dogs in the car! - this Roadhouse is normally dog friendly as they have a huge outside area, but it was a tad chilly at 1:30pm so no one was really taking that option). The desserts came and frankly we had to take them to go because we were so full. We had one of each - the spiced pumpkin apple pie, the s'mores pudding and the apple crisp and they were fine, but not as GREAT as the rest of the meal. The first time my friends and I visited Rocker's Roadhouse was during the Chowder Fest 2025 in Bodega Bay. We were so impressed with their chowder that we decided to do a reservation next day for brunch as a party of 9. The location is perfect. It's located off the main road and has plenty of parking behind the building. Upon walking into the restaurant, you're greeted with the old framework of the building along with a woodburning fireplace that heats up the bar area well. I adore the wooden interior that gives ode to the historical building. We were fortunate to be seated in the back patio because we had a senior puppy with us and the hostess was more than happy to accommodate us along with a doggy bowl. The patio is spacious and there's a large area for tables to be placed together for large parties under the sun or even under the awning. Either or, they both have outdoor heaters that made it comfortable for our dinning experience. We ordered the beignets that tasted delicious. They were cooked perfectly and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The size was perfect for our large group that wanted to try them. We ordered 3x 6 raw oysters on the sell and they were amazing. So fresh, perfect size and taste. It was a hit at the table. The hot casino clam dip and deviled eggs were okay. I ordered the chicken and waffle and found my chicken to be a bit dry. After a day of exploring Point Reyes National Seashore I just had to drive up to Bodega to see the Potter School House where Hitchcock filmed The Birds movie sequence with the kids leaving the school being attacked by the crows. That done, I was powerfully hungry. Driving toward Sacramento I passed through Valley Ford. Looked like two options for dinner: Rockers & and Italian Family restaurant. Both had good reviews. Felt like sitting at a bar, so Rockers Roadhouse it was. Woman at the bar was very polite and welcoming. Got a HenHouse Avian Surveillance Division IPA and some oysters. The menu was fine, I came in thinking ribs, but they were fresh out. With an assist from the bartender, I went with beer can chicken. I devoured the thigh portion of the 1/2 of chicken, it was very good. As always with chicken, to me, the breast was a bit dry. I still ate almost all of it. Overall it was good, but probably would have enjoyed the ribs more. Or if I could have had two of the thigh / legs instead of the breast... That's why I just don't love chicken. Ordered beignets from the menu for dessert. It was like 200 of them. Big plate. I had 4 and shared the rest with the table that was celebrating a birthday. Hope they enjoyed them as much as I did. Service was outstanding, food was better than average, it was a great local place to have a real meal, not fast food, and much better than cheap bar food. This was our second visit to this location and we all loved it. Previously my wife and I had come, this time we brought the kids with us. We all had an awesome meal and the kids can't wait to try it again. I didn't take much in the way of photos. We were hungry and got right to eating. The smash burgers my wife and daughter got were terrific. They were awfully big and both of them ended up removing a patty. Which didn't hurt my feelings as I ate one of the Pattie's. They were very flavorful and fresh. My youngest got chicken and waffles. The was thrilled with how great the fried chicken was. The waffles were also great. So it was a hit for her and made me regret not getting them too! I got the biscuits and gravy with eggs. The potatoes were excellent! The biscuits and gravy was good, but I wish it had a little more flavor to it. But that's my bad, as it's not a sausage gravy which I'm used to. I should have added a side of bacon or something. Food- Great food, probably top 2 of the best we had in the area. We did a half dozen oysters, fried Brussels, etouffee, and bread pudding. Oysters were solid and the mignonette was great. Hot sauce wasn't automatically given but is available. the etouffee was the best bite of the night; great sauce and realistic portions too. The cocktails were okay, not bad not mind-blowing. Service- Great service. They were attentive but didn't hover which is always great. We were the only ones outside so they made sure we stayed warm via heatlamp. I will warn you, you will probably get talked into dessert but I didn't regret it. Ambiance- I can only speak for outside but it feels like a classic vacation restaurant vibe where you want to eat someplace nice but you also didn't pack anything fancy. This is a great break away from the abundance of deep-fried fish places in the area where you can still get seafood. Dog Friendly - Outside only. Oyster Rockefellers and Rockefeller's Roadhouse What is the food like here? Ummmm... uhhhh... well, I'm not sure, actually. So, my wife and I decided to go out to dinner last Sunday (1/16) because the families from our classes (were teachers) had bought us gift certificates as a holiday gift. We decided to watch the sunset go down and then meet another couple there in Bodega at Oyster Rockefellers. It was an absolutely lovely day. If you are from out of town here is a tip: The beaches can be awesome in the winter (but are generally cold and windy in the summer and not much fun). There you go. This was one of the best January days ever... first warning sign! We left Goat Rock and drove south... and hit an enormous traffic jam! What? Traffic? In Bodega? Yes, in Bodega. It took more than 15 minutes to drive that last 1000 yards, from the Tides parking lot to the shared Rockefellers/Fisheterian parking lot. Pure chaos. People parking everywhere, including in the roadway... people walking by the side of the road...crossing dangerously in front of traffic... just a mess. Never seen it like that. "What the hell?" I asked my wife. "Are all these people trying to go where we are trying to go?". Yes... all these people were trying to go there. We finally were able to turn into the lot... not a chance of parking legally on Highway 1... and of course you can't buy a parking spot. After driving around in a circle in the lot 10 times, I jumped out to tell our friends that we can't park, and to cancel our plans. Once inside, it was clear that every seat was full and that people were standing around in every possible place you could stand. My friends had been quoted a 45 minute wait... but that was obviously a dream. My buddy said "Look... this place is being slammed. I worked in restaurants for 10 years... the food suffers when a place is getting hit like this". I'm sure he's right... so I said good-bye and made we a date in a couple of weeks... and I walked out to get back in the car. And then it took another 5 minutes to get out of the parking lot. On a lark, I said to my wife: "Well, let's go to the Valley Ford location and see if we can get in there", because those Gift Certificates were burning a hole in my pocket. So, we drove to Valley Ford. Parking was no problem... but as soon as we got inside the place, we realized the place was REALLY loud. A football game was on in the bar, through which you enter, and the crowd was raucous and well lubricated. We walked through the bar into the dining area, and the waitress said it would probably be twenty minutes - half an hour until she could close out any of the existing diners and clear a table for us. Well, okay. After using the restroom, I stood at the edge of the dining room to wait and took in the scene. Loud music was thumping away on the main dining room, and periodic explosions of cheering erupted from the bar area. It was really, really loud in there. And then I noticed something: The dining room was half empty. Half of the tables were sitting there, unused and un-bussed, covered with used dishes and glasses. "What is going on here?", I asked myself. Then it occurred to me: There were only three staff members in the entire place... the bar tender, one waitress, and one cook. We took in the scene for about 10 minutes, looking to see if any of the seated dinners seemed like they might be leaving soon... but every table were full of people still waiting for their food. Well, it was well after seven by this point, so we walked out and drove back to Santa Rosa for some Thai food. Now, I'm no Einstein, but I thinks I can figure out what had happened: The Bodega place was being hit so hard that the Valley Ford staff was all pulled out and sent down there to deal with it. Half of the tables in VF were sitting unused because there was no one there to bus them or wait on them. It doesn't take a genius to figure this kind of stuff out. So: Is the food any good? Everyone says it is, so probably so. I hope we get cash in our gift certificates someday and find out. But right now, these two places look like they are falling victim to their own success... Will the fate of the two Rockers' end up resembling that deathless Yogi Berra quote, when he said: "Nobody ever goes there anymore... it's too crowded!" We'll see... read more

We went for brunch last Sunday...we were happily impressed! The brunch menu had a large variety of Cajun/creole inspired dishes, sandwiches, oysters, eggs Benedicts, and so much more. Prices were very reasonable and the food was stellar...the sauces were delicious, and notably the onion rings were crunchy, packed with flavor and the dipping sauce was yum!
