I didn't WANT to make the long trip out to Annandale after an agonizing workday…read more.. But it was worth the drive. After years of condescending doctors looking down their noses while chucking multitudes of medicines at me for my low back and sciatic pain , I was nearly at my wit's end. However, the moment Dr. Gorsen walked into the evaluation room to greet me, I felt like someone was finally in my corner. He had a jovial tone (although he took me seriously), read my chart thoroughly, reviewed my MRI's extensively, let me speak without cutting me off, actually LISTENED, and fully processed what I had to say before responding. I can tell when a doctor enjoys his work by his bedside manner, and this doctor has a stellar one. While he's extremely busy (engaged in various side projects, inventions, and work with sports injury patients), Dr. Gorsen still took his time with me, didn't make me feel rushed, did make me feel comfortable, and managed to quickly devise and explain to me several prospective lines of attack to get to the root of my suffering. He patiently conveyed what I didn't understand in lay terms, and even offered an interim solution between now and the next time I would follow up with him - going back and forth several times to his supply room, working with me to find just the right sized back brace, and educating me on how to use it. If a guy this busy can manage to have a good humor, patience, and sympathy for his patients, the rest of you cocky doctors with atrocious people skills running patient mills should be ashamed. Additionally, the staff was pleasant, the office wasn't crowded with over-booked patients, and I've definitely had longer waits. Because of Dr. Gorsen, for the first time in three years, the light at my tunnel's end doesn't just seem like a freight train. He may or may not be able to help see me back to restored health; but at the very least, he HAS offered two very important things to me which no other doctor has bothered to even attempt thus far - and those are sincerity and hope. He has accrued an array of accolades over the years, and I can see why. I would recommend this neurosurgeon to anyone - near or far.

I had an excellent experience during my first visit to this clinic. Dr. Henn was recommended by my…read morerheumatologist. As she mentioned he was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and had outstanding bedside manner. He took the time to listen, explained everything in a way that was easy to understand during the exam and made me feel completely at ease. What stood out most was the flexibility and thoughtfulness in discussing treatment options and next steps--I never felt rushed and truly felt included in the decision-making process. It's rare to find a provider who combines expertise with genuine compassion. I'm very grateful for such a positive first visit and would highly recommend this practice. Everyone from the front desk personnel, his administrative staff, the x-ray technician, then his shadowing residents x2 were great. I visited the 20th st location but will visit Georgetown due to ease of transport.

Dear GT Medstar Medical Team,…read more My name is Sheila Westerfield and I was an in-patient at your hospital from October 25 through October 30, 2024. I must apologize because this email thank you is a very long time coming, however, I have been working on my recovery and PT. I wanted to thank each of you for your amazing care both medically, physically and emotionally as your team and you guided me through my recovery period at the hospital during my stay. From the excellent medical care and advice that was given to me both pre op hip replacement surgery to post op surgery, Dr. Park, I must say you are the BEST! I am so grateful that you are and were my surgeon involved in my care from the day I came to you for consultation, during and after my surgery and your excellent follow up and care! Your attentiveness to my requests and care will always be appreciated with deep gratitude. You also possess an amazing beside manner. I grew up in a family of physicians from my grandfather, uncle and brother -- so I am quite familiar with the quality of care that can be given to a patient -- not just medically, but the overall support emotionally that makes an outstanding doctor like yourself stand out from the rest. Thank you! Secondly and not really secondly, the amazing care that I received from the nursing staff, your staff, Dr. Park -- your resident, the physical therapists, nurse techs, the client care experience staff and down to the young man who cleaned my room twice a day and the food services staff, I remain extremely grateful. The quality of care and attention and kindness and compassion of all of the staff mentioned above (the names are listed below) -- I hope that I didn't leave anyone out, please know how fabulous you all are and I am grateful that you chose the medical profession because you are exactly where you belong. You all have huge hearts and exude patience and devotion to the career you chose. It is my hope that the director's of GT Medstar and your immediate supervisors and managers will have the opportunity to see this email. Because I don't have access to their emails, I am hopeful that this email will be forwarded to each -- from the president/ceo at GT, the head of the surgical orthopedics department, the head of nursing and patient experience department, director of physical therapy, food services and the janitorial department. I am healing quickly -- walking sometimes without a cane and having no difficulty navigating my 14 steps (LOL). All of this is due to the excellent care that each of you provided me and your encouragement each step of the way. The qualities that each of you possess are those that each person who has to undergo surgery or just a stay at the hospital prays for!!!! I know for certain as I am a praying "gal" who when my eyes open I am prayerful and thankful and before they close my prayers and gratefulness are repeated to my God -- and, what I can say is that HE answered my prayers, for TRUE!!!!! I wish each of you all of the BLESSINGS that God has in store for each of you and your families. I know that each day that you come to work, you are BLESSING yet many more patients! Thank you again. I will continue to keep each of you close to my heart and in my prayers. Tomorrow, my plan is to post this on Google!!!!!!! Blessings. With much thanks, Sheila H. Dr. Y seems to be competent surgeon... but as another reviewer pointed out, once the surgery is…read moreover, he loses interest in your post-op care very quickly. His office staff (a staff of one person, it would appear) inspires very little confidence, having completely messed up several of my scheduled appointments by either not recording them or by setting them to his Vienna office (20 miles away) instead of the Woodbridge one where I live... and NOT TELLING ME. When his office recently tried to do that again, I reminded them that I cannot drive (because, you know, SPINAL surgery!) and such a trip would cost me well over $100 via Uber. She (the assistant) asked if my sister could drive me like before? I politely informed her that not only do I not have a sister, but that I have never had anyone but an Uber driver take me to my appointments with Dr. Y. So, the suggested solution? Take pictures of the surgery site with my camera phone and text them to her for Dr. Y to look at. I've had impersonal treatment from medical professionals before that made me feel like my care was an inconvenience for them, but this office sets a new standard for seeming to have no interest in knowing anything about their patients once the 'cool and interesting' bit is over with. I'm going to be switching neurosurgeons to continue my post-op care as soon as I can. My surgery was done under emergency conditions and as such I could not pick my surgeon... but if I could have, knowing what I know now, I would have picked almost anyone but him; not because I don't think he knows what he's doing during the operation, but because he has demonstrated a remarkable (and frankly, unprofessional) lack of investment or interest in real post-surgical care. If you want a practice that will see you as a human being with complex recuperative needs, you'd be better off looking to a different practice. Not recommended.

When other doctors/physicians…read moredismissed my ongoing excruciating pain, Dr. Nayak was able to diagnose my condition right away and set up a plan that made more than perfect sense. I was admitted the same day, was able to be monitored overnight and be provided pain management, and had the surgery scheduled the following day - I am now pain-free, and I just can't thank Dr. Nayak enough! The front staff as well as the assistants/nurses are all so friendly, kind, and welcoming - I was also able to be squeezed in for an appointment, which really never happens with a specialist; the amount of compassion and empathy that this office has is amazing. All my follow-ups have been wonderful, and the office is very responsive in answering any questions/concerns. and/or providing refills on medication(s). If you're looking for a neurosurgeon, there is only one doctor you should be trying to get an appointment with, and that's Dr. Nayak. He is extremely kind, provides a breakdown of everything, answers all your questions, has the best bedside manners, is an expert, and he holds all these accolades/awards/recognitions. I cannot speak to other surgeons, but I can about Dr. Kader…read more Do not use Dr. Kader as your surgeon. Though I was recommended a different surgeon, Dr. Murry, I went with Kader to get the surgery done before the 2016 year was out. I paid for that mistake. Kader made no major slipups, but in doing the C5-C6 fusion he ended up tightening the spaces around the foramina, the places where the nerves traveling to the arms and back exit the spine - even though I had told Kader that I was an active amateur musician, and that playing was a big part of my life. Within two weeks after the surgery I started noticing symptoms down my arms and into my hands that were not there before the surgery. Except for brief periods, they did not go away, and slowly grew worse and worse. Kader refused to see any problem and only told me to take more drugs - even a year and a half after the surgery. Finally, my pain doctor recommended Dr, Ellegala of Sonospine. Three months ago he opened up the spaces that Kader closed, and my hands already feel stronger and more dexterous than they have in years. Ellagala's surgery technique isn't covered by insurance, and I had to pay $30K, but he fixed Kader's bungle, so it was worth it. But I'd rather not have had to pay it in the first place. When you pick a surgeon, you want someone who is committed to doing the best he or she can for you. Abraham Kader is not that surgeon, so he is not the surgeon you want. Go with Murry if you can.
