The doctor Babak behavioral was very bad and he even wasn't kind with my children and he said bad words in Persian to me and my children.

I was told that my children had cavities. I had no reason (at the time) to dispute this, and my son went through the process of drilling and filling his "cavities". Next was my daughter, that I was told also had a few cavities. Knowing how well my daughter takes care of her teeth, I became suspicious and took her to my dentist, who I trust implicitly. NOT to my surprise, my dentist assured me that my daughter had no cavities. Not a one! I should have reported Dr. Kakar, knowing of the possibility that my son never had cavities either, but instead I never returned to his office. This review has been a long time coming. I will continue posting this review, even though they keep removing it, to warn people to stay clear away from this practice. My son has Autism and is 7 years old (6 at the time of the visit). We knew he needed a lot of repairs to his teeth. I took him in for a visit and amazingly he did well with the x-rays, but wasn't too happy about the cleaning. While the cleaning was being performed the doctor was trying to keep us in a closed room. When my son got upset, Dr. Kakar tried to stop us from leaving the room to go check on him, saying let his team work. That was the first red flag. After the exam we were told that he would need sedation in-office, numerous crowns and a few root canals and that I had to pay $1.2k out of pocket for the anesthesia just to schedule that appointment. I worked out the preapproval with my insurance, including covering the anesthesia due to his disability. They knew I was working on this and once they were sent the approval, Dr. Kakar's office told me that they don't work with insurance on anesthesia. (That would be understandable if they were bringing in an outside anesthesiologist, but I had asked - and Dr. Kakar was planning on doing it himself.) I do not have $1.2k to pay for a service that my insurance would cover and so I began asking around. I spoke to my dentist and he said absolutely DO NOT allow anyone to administer anesthesia to a child outside of a hospital, especially if it's never been done before and you are unaware of allergies to medications, etc. That was the final word for me as my gut was also telling me not to proceed. I called Dr. Kakar's office and asked for my son's records. They called me asking WHY I wanted his records. I need the records and my insurance paid for the x-rays, so that's all the explanation necessary. They said fine, but you have to pay $50 for the records. So I paid the $50 and they gave me FOUR CRAPPY XRAY pics out of AT MINIMUM 15 that they took. No other information was provided. I have since began using another pediatric dentist in Sterling (Smilez). My son had his procedure in the hospital last year and it was minimally stressful on him. He was more concerned with eating chicken nuggets when it was over. read more

Took my son here when he had an extraction that went south (from a neibauer place) - it was fixed and final bill was $680 . All out of pocket. Didn't argue the price because my kid was in a lot of pain. All paid and now it's all done right? No..... 4 years later, received calls and emails (some not so friendly) that there is a $200.00+ balance due. I don't think so. I am glad I kept all records and receipts because I sent them copies to show it was paid in full. Really, four years later?! They figured no one would keep their receipts for that long..... And they never sent their "new" bill to me (email or by mail) when I asked them for it to see what is the $200 cost for. They did fix my son's issue but their billing process seems shady. Terrible and worst place to go. It was my first and last time to visit that dentist. Dr. Kakar and the hygienist Ali are not friendly at all. They dont have positive and friendly attitude to toddler. They dont know how to interact with a baby and not courteous at all. I went there for my toddler to get cleaning and it lasted less than 5 minutes. I guess its good enough to understand how well the visit went. People should think twice before they come that business. They dont allow both parents stay with the baby while cleaning. They ask irrelevant questions and dont show genuine interest to your child. I feel like that Dr. Kakar is not passionate and friendly enough to the kids. I feel like he was forcing himself to do his job. In one word it was TERRIBLE AND AWFUL experience. read more

As a kid I always hated going to a dentist. I only wish I had a dentist like Dr Kakar growing up. He treated both my kids and he did amazing jobs. He was so pleasant each time I took my kids there that I see their happy face when they hear that they have a DENTIST appointment. Happier than going to toy store. Hi my name is Angel, and when I was 5 I remember how TERRIBLE Dr.Kakar used to treat me. I remember this one time they were pulling a tooth out and I started to cry because I was nervous and he put his hands over my mouth and nose! I couldn't breathe AT ALL!!! And I couldn't do anything because my hands and legs were tied to the GOSH DARN CHAIR! I remember well that there was a women there with us in the room (probably an assistant) and she was yelling at him to STOP!!! He kept on screaming at me and telling me to SHUT UP!!! And when it was finally done he told me to not to tell my mom! And that was the first thing I did. I told her and she called them to tell them that what they were doing is bad and wrong. They starting yelling at my mom through the phone, that I was LYING and if that she didn't know, then she just be quiet! They are BAD and my Mom wouldn't have ever known because they would never let her in. Now my little cousin goes there and he's telling me the same thing!!! They obviously don't know how to treat a child!!! Now I advise any mother that if they don't let the mother enter with their child, don't go there. Or ask your son/daughter exactly what happened!!! Please avoid taking your son there. Now I'm 13, and still remember how BAD they treated me, like if it was yesterday. And I confirmed to my mom that I was not lying. read more

My daughter's treatments went fine, but no one knows how to do billing. I recieved a quote, was called and the price changed. Fine, errors happen. Before each appointment the billing prices changed over and over. Then I get my billing from insurance and I was overbilled by several hundreds of dollars. I've called over and over, I stopped by and gave copies of my insurance explanation. Every time I call they say no one in billing is there, the office manager is out, and they have no record of me calling. They are professional and nice to rip you off on the money side. They told me yesterday that my insurance didn't cover the kind of sedation they wanted to give in a future visit and that it was only $660. No other options. My insurance said We have other options, therefore we are Not coming back! He was also very condescending with me. They ask your kids to come all at the same time to sit in their assembly line. If you are a parent with multiple kids, is very possible that at one given time you will have your kids all over the office in the rooms of their choosing without you having a saying or a visual of them. Worst customer service*** nothing to do with the doctor I thinks he's one of the best ones thats why I drive all the way from Alexandria. My daughter had a dentist appt and I had provide them with my insurance information over the phone when I made the appt two weeks before ... This place was a hole. Dingy , Dark and Depressing. Dr. Kakar is supposed to be a Pediatric Dentist. My child is 3 we scheduled an appointment and we will never go back there. The staff is very unprofessional, rude, and they expect me to have my child sedated without me being in the room. I do not think so. Avoid if possible. Worst experience with a dentist office ever. Staff upfront was not friendly, once I got in the back it was very crowded with too many people beside each other, and I kept overhearing them tell every kid, "they had two cavities, and needed two teeth pulled". At first I thought this was a coincidence, but then one of the workers started pushing on two of my daughters teeth really hard, saying she needed two teeth pulled. My daughter had just turned nine years old, I explained to them that I did not feel this was necessary, and then I started to realize it seemed like everything was a money scam. The woman who cleaned my teeth was very rough and hurt my gums, and her bedside manner was terrible. Also when I requested my x-rays to transfer to another dentist, they charged me $100 and it took three days, I finally called and left a message on the office manager's phone and I had them not even five minutes later, it was ridiculous. Please, for the safety of your child, take your child somewhere else. We are now paying 2300 dollars to correct the work performed by Dr. Kakar. After his one of his crowns fell out, we went to a new, reputable dentist only to discover that Dr. Kakar did not fix or seal a single tooth correctly. Not only this, after my son was placed under sedation by Dr. Kakar's team to have his work done, he came out smelling like cigarette smoke. Bad experience: the office is chaotic (after a month, I cannot get a clear answer regarding my insurance reimbursement); the facility is poorly maintained (equipment is shabby and sqeeky); the atmosphere is not kid-friendly at all (no distraction for the kid in the waiting area); customer service reminded me of the Soviet Union era ("I am doing you a favor by servicing you" type attitude). My son went to Dr. Kakar for several years. I had always felt that things just weren't right at this office, but didn't have anything to really compare it to. Now I go to a much better office (Smilez in Gainesville) and realize that wow, Kakar's office is a complete crap show. Extreme over booking, run down office, rude office staff, unorganized billing and staff. You are never seen even close to your appointment time and the work always seemed rushed and a little 2nd rate. I finally decided to leave after the Office Manager accused me of owing over $2K on my bill in front of everyone in the waiting room. I had paid every bill and estimate I received and it was an obvious error. They also HIGHLY overcharge for services that are not covered by insurance. They charged $660 for laughing gas. I didn't know this was crazy, until at my son's new dentist it is only $85...wow, huge huge difference!!!! My son also felt and remembered everything while under sedation. He always came out of the office in tears. At Smilez he had an extra tooth removed and a stubborn baby tooth and he came out with all Smiles! read more

So to begin, I will say my son was not seen at this practice. I was too scared to let them even take him back, I had to make up an excuse to leave that place FAST!!! Please don't take your kids here. I'm so glad we left. As soon as we walked in it looked like someone's old dirty stinky basement. The carpet was extremely dirty and full of stains, no area for kids to play. Office staff was extremely rude. The assistants taking the kids back were even more rude. I looked in the back and it looked so old and run down. I'm not sure about the doctor as we didn't make it back there. And the sad part is that it was full. They accept Medicaid and unfortunately people may believe this is the only place that does. I logged on to write a review of this office and was relieved to see similar opinions to mine. I've never been impressed but took my son to normal cleanings. Now that he is older, I have problems with office - lack of communication, high prices, talking down to me, questioning me when I ask for records. The other reviews here are accurate in that the office is older, run-down, cramped, and not very clean. With so many dentist available in Manassas and the surrounding area, I suggest you not even waste your time with a visit to Kakar aka Manassas Pediatric Dentistry. WORST DENTIST EVER! Very unprofessional, rude, and flat out lies. My son needed a cavity filled. The next thing I know, I was in a horror movie when I heard the agonizing screams of my son "Stop, please stop, it hurts!" I ran back and opened the door to see the assistant literally laying on top pf him holding him down while Dr Kakar drilled away. She let him up when she saw me and my son had a mouth full of blood which the dentist yelled a thim for getting blood on his chair. He then yelled at me for going back there "Take your kid and get out! We wouldn't have to hold him down if he didn't kick. Tell your kid not to kick." Apparently they've done this before and when I asked why I was never told that he cried and fought with them, "Because we don't like to upset the parents so we just tell them they were a little scared but did fine." read more

DO NOT GO HERE! The message from the owner is a piece of crock....They do not make you feel welcomed, informed and comfortable. My Daughter just had caps placed on her teeth by Dr. Kakar. When we initially went there was still some of her tooth visable, once we went in for surgery the tooth had broken off at the gum. We had a few questions and concerns for the doctor before the surgery. I called the week before to talk to him, and I was told that I would be able to talk to him the day of the surgery, before they took my daughter back. Once Surgery came, Dr. kakar came over and had my husband sign a few papers then walked away, my husband started to ask the nurse our questions, but she said that we would need to talk to the Dr. about them, and brought him back over.... he had left without even asking us if we had any questions before the surgery. Once he came back over we asked if he would have to cut into our daughters gums to perform the surgery, we were very worried about pain after the surgery (she is 1 and we can only give her tylenol for pain). Dr. Kakar then proceeded to raise his voice at us and told us that if it needed to be done then he was going to do it. When we asked what he would be doing, since she was in a different situation now he again, with a raised voice, told us that that he was not a used car salesman, this is what he does all the time, if we dont trust him, or if we are not 100% sure about the surgery to let him know now, because he had better things to do. At this point I was getting very visably upset, his nurse tried to help explain things to me by saying that they had smaller instruments, at this point Dr. Kakar interrupted her and told her "Just shut-up and walk away I am the one talking, dont interrupt me" Dr. Kakar then once again informed us that we needed to make a decision because he had better things to do, and we shouldnt question him because he is the doctor and we are not. I asked Dr. Kakar to please talk to me in a nicer tone, I am just a concerend parent, this is my baby and I am just worried about her, she is 1 and going under, and I am worried about her pain afterwards. Dr. Kakar once again interrupted me as I was talking and told me that I needed to make up my mind, that if I wasnt going to do this, then he would move on to his next patient. The only reason that I went through with the surgery is because I knew my daughter needed it, and it took us 6 weeks to get her appointment for the the surgery, and I didnt want to have to wait at least another 6 weeks to get her the help that she needed. Once my daughter was back in surgery we went to the patient representative and told them about his behavior, it was totally inappropriate. I can not believe that a Dr. would ever act like that. They are supposed to reassure you that everything will be ok during the surgery, not yell at you. And to yell at the nurse in front of us was totally uncalled for. Once my daughter was out of surgery, Dr. Kakar came in to let me know of after surgery care procedures, but he would not look at me, he looked all over the room, but not at me while he was talking. I will never go to Dr. Kakars office again, and I will let everyone know about how rude he was to us. My duaghter has a 2 week follow-up and I refuse to go back to his office, I will find another dentist to take her to. In talking to friends I have found a few other people who have gone to his office, and had very bad experiences as well. Dont take your children there, you will just get belittled for asking questions. if I could leave less than a 1 star rating I would!! read more

My son went to his clinic in Manassas for a second opinion. When I get an appointment I mention this to his staff and I asked if I need to pay for my son visit. She said no, my insurance will cover it. But after the consultation, the front desk staff asked me to pay $130 because that is not cover by my insurance. I told here our conversation when I get the appointment 2 weeks ago. I said, If I know that I will pay extra and big amount, I will not go thru to this dentist visit. I let the office manager know that the dental hygienists were unfit to work with children. Unless you think it's appropriate for a dental hygienist to order your child around like a drill sergeant, do NOT take them here! In my opinion Dr Kakar is THE BEST PEDIATRIC DENTIST in Northern Virginia. My son was diagnosed with cavities and two other pediatric dentists ( one in Centreville and another in Fairfax ) recommended treating my child by putting him to sleep. Thank God I went to Dr Kakar. We go to a Family Dentist who referred me to Dr. Kakar to fill 3 cavities. When we showed up, the front desk tried to charge me $120 for a consultation fee! Just to see the dentist!! I pointed out that my dental plan has an initial consultation fee of $24, but they said it was a different consultation fee. Finally, we agreed to do a dental cleaning for $18. That should have been my first clue. Dr. Kakar was great with my child. We took X-rays and a Panoramic. My child was due for these so I didn't have a problem with that. Then Dr. Kakar said that she had 4 cavities, would need 2 silver crowns and 1 baby tooth pulled. They did an estimate for me that included sedation (~$400) - it came to ~$1100. I was shocked, but decided to go through with it because Dr. Kakar was so good with my daughter. We go to the procedure. They say that they will try to do both sides of her mouth, but they didn't know whether they could based on how she responds. I said, "I don't care how she responds, for $400 of sedation, she needs to do both sides." My daughter is almost 9, she understood that they would do both sides. 20 minutes later, they say she is done! What?!? 20 minutes? They didn't do both sides!! My daughter looks at me and says she's fine. The dentist tells me he didn't even have to use the 'blanket' to restrain her. I didn't want to fight with the dentist in front of my daughter so I took her out front to get the bill.... AND they said that the original estimate of $1100 was going up to almost $2000!!!!!! Did I mention that they tried to charge me $82 for 'Behavior Management'?!? When I asked them about it, they said it was when the Dr. uses his 'special' skills to calm an anxious patient down by getting their mind on something else or changing the subject. Isn't that why I was spending $400 to get her sedated?!?!? They took that charge off. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I went there. Terrible. According to his own office staff this dentist is VERY sick. He should not be working on patients. He is only working on patients in order to keep his license. This is according to his own staff. My son is autistic, we were seen in office twice and on the third visit we were "kicked out" of his office b/c Dr. Kakar didn't think he could handle my son. We were upfront from the start about my son's issues and possible problems with "sleepy juice" needed to get dental work done. On the day of the scheduled dental procedure the dentist was very rude, he was arrogant and he came out and said, "I'm sick and I'm tired and I don't want to deal with your son" He asked us to find another dentist. We did find another dentist and they disagree with Dr. Kakar's findings. My son does not need 4 cavities and extraction and a crown. I will point out that on my second visit to the office and the one where I met the dr. He was RUDE. He informed me that I would not be allowed back in the room with my son while they were performing the procedure. Normally dentists have said, we prefer you not to be in the room, but you are welcome to be in the room. Not this guy! He also said, kids will cry and scream. That's normal. Today when I told him that if my son started screaming I would come back there apparently that's what made the dr. upset and why he asked us to leave. (again this is according to his office staff and what they told my husband.) This is NOT a kid friendly office. My son cannot have red dye, all of their fluoride and tooth gel has red dye in it (we looked) so the cleaning was not done completely. This office reassured me at the the start that they deal with special needs, they do not! They were not familiar with any of my son's conditions. Now, the office will not give us records. The office has outdated x-ray machines that are not digital so it's $50 to get a copy of the x-rays they did. We were told we didn't have to sign a release of information for the new dentist to get information but when the new dentist called they were told that I (patient's mom) had to go in and sign a release form. I DO not recommend this dentist. I have filed grievances with the Commonwealth of Virginia and with the Medicaid office in Virginia! My advice, find someone else! There are plenty of patient, tolerant dentists out there that haven't been advised by their own physicians to not work on patients. This guy is only in it for the $$. Which is evident by his $200 shoes! He should not be practicing! read more
