Each time I have been here (at bar & at table) I've been served a watery Manhattan (up). The food is okay -- too many sauces and layers as if chief trying too hard to be inventive. Last time there the asparagus were tough, the fish dry (despite the sauce). read more

Great food and a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere on a date night with my wife. The service was good and the food was excellent. The staff all seemed to have a smile for everyone and they truly looked like they were enjoying their job (including the young woman mentioned below). The art displayed on the walls is worth noting and was very interesting. The style reminded me of Thomas Hart Benton's works hanging in the capital building in Jefferson City, but the themes were more current. Finally, I can't resist adding a unique and funny/gross thing I observed while there ... we were seated near the section of the bar where the wait staff picked up their drinks, so there were often people there and were in my direct line of sight. One young waitress obviously had an underwear problem and at least twice stood at the bar, waiting for drinks and casually, but determinedly picking at her butt, apparently oblivious to the fact that there were two customers sitting right behind her. Fortunately, her hands stayed on the outside of her jeans ... but how clueless do you have to be?!? I was glad she was not waiting on us and might consider asking for another person if we end up in her section on future trips. read more

We've tried Sophia's a couple of times and were not impressed. The restaurant only had a few patrons but we still waited over 30 mins for our meal. When we did receive our food it was lukewarm. The second time was the service was a little better. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you're looking for a good restaurant in Columbia I would recommend CC's City Broiler or Chris McD's. read more

I have tried to have a good time at this place. I only get good service at the bar. Today I went for lunch I understand there were big tables to deal with I get it I was in the restaurant business forever. We waited to just SEE our servers for over ten minutes. At one point my drink that I was not done with was taken from the table. And when I got home with my left overs found that half of my dish was missing....must have went the way of my drink. My friend was served countless refills (which she refused more than once) while i sat and never was never asked or received a refill of water! The little things kept adding up. And it stinks because the food is good but if the service is constantly lacking I won't be back and guess what? I am not the only one. read more

I'm very disappointed with the service of this restaurant. I'm absolutely appalled at how they treated us at Sophia's. Not only was our server one of the worst we've ever had, but we ended up finding a piece of plastic in our ravioli that came out cold. We asked to speak to the manager and expressed our concerns and she barely acknowledged our complaints and just said that they could make us a new one. I am extremely disappointed with this kind of service. I would have never thought we would be treated with such horrible respect from a waitress let alone a general manager! Very friendly wait staff, timely and professional. They were very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the caprese & gruyere mushrooms for appetizers, both were fantastic. We had the chipotle chicken spinach pasta special & the pasta buonasera for dinner. Very large portions, we could've split a dish and still had leftovers. There food was delicious and wonder the first time I ate there. The second time I ate there I had the lobster ravioli and later that night I got sick as a dog. I felt like I was going through an exorcism only it was coming out both ends at the same time (gross i know). We've eaten here on a number of occasions and in the past been very impressed. Unfortunately something's, several things have changed for the worse. Our last two visits will be our last for quite a while as the food is now bland, boring and not very plentiful. Plus the wait staff we had were, at best, inattentive. Excellent food all around the table! From my hearty French dip sandwich with sage au jus, to the grilled prawn atop tender couscous, to an excellent club sandwich, to the chicken wrap, each of us was very happy with the kitchen. The friendly, helpful staff easily accommodated grandma and her walker in as smooth a manner as I've seen anywhere. We all enjoyed the warm decor and cool art that complemented the folksy music (both subdued and non-intrusive). An extensive wine list and nice bar selection included nearly a dozen scotches, which I appreciated. In warmer weather, I'd happily make use of the free Bocce court attached to nice outdoor patio seating! read more

Excellent meal and service tonight at Sophia's!! Had chicken mudega from waitress recommendation, it was incredible and piping hot. Flavors from tarragon sauce melted in our mouth. Wife had scallop and strip steak pasta, it was great as well! Crab cakes had great flavors as did the berry crisp dessert. I highly recommend this place. I took a guest to this restaurant because the hotel where I was staying recommended it for a "nice" upscale place. However I was very disappointed. I had pasta and meatballs which they proceeded to cook to within an inch of its life. An Italian restaurant overcooking the pasta is just a sin in my opinion. I shouldn't have to tell them when ordering to cook it el dente. My companion also had overcooked pasta so that just ruined the meal all around. For dessert I tried the mixed berry and took it back to my hotel to eat later. The dessert was all right but it was served with cinnamon ice cream and I think for the type of dessert it would have been better with plain vanilla. When returning to this area I would skip eating here for sure. read more

Hadn't been back here after several lackluster experiences a while ago. Decided to give it another try....glad we did! Food was great. The bread/olive oil is average, nothing amazing. If you are looking for high quality authentic Italian food, avoid Sophia's. The food is over priced, full of salt and butter and just simply not good. The best part of the meal was the salad and bread, unfortunately it all went downhill from there. From the service aspect, we ordered salads to eat prior to our entree. About half way through the salad however the main course was delivered to the table. Maybe it's me and I'm picky, but I prefer to eat one course at a time without feeling rushed. The restaurant was not busy at the time (maybe 5 tables total), so there is no reason to rush a meal. When my girlfriend asked for San Pelagrino water, the waitress snarked and said "all we carry is the plain one, no flavors", which was exactly what was asked for, plain bubbly San Pelagrino water. The main course dishes were adequate in size but way too much salt and butter. A cream sauce should be the simplest thing to make, cream and cheese! Well we decided to order desert to go, a Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlé and a Tiramisu. My friends I have sat in the Square of St Peters Basilica in Rome and enjoyed a Tiramisu, what ever this thing was that Sophia's tries to pass off is an outrage. You can't crumble up espresso beans, sprinkle them over some OMG over sweetened icing covering a soggy cake and call it Tiramisu. Maybe I thought, maybe the Crème Brûlé would be better. I ate 3 bites and had to stop. Sadly the most authentic"Italian Food" in Columbia is Olive Garden. Avoid Sophia's and your taste buds will thank you. read more

Had high hopes. But having moved here from Denver and having travelled in Italy this was a bit of a disappointment. Bread and salad were good, unfortunately the salad waa drowning in dressing. Overall ok tho. Had filet tapas, they were high point. Excellent sauce and bleu cheese, very tasty. Margherita pizza. ...inedible. Sickeningly sweet crust, soggy mess, covered in cheese. Needed a towel to sop off the moisture but after one bite decided it wasnt worth it. Ordered espresso and creme brulee for dessert. They dont have espresso. The creme brulee had cold spots like it was taken out of the refrigerator and the crust was over torched giving it a burnt flavor. Ordered coffee with dessert but it never came. Over Americanized and definitely not authentic. Seems like so much sugar in everything. read more

This is another one of my favorite restaurants in COMO - I lived on the southside in college and this was one of my regular haunts. It is a bit pricier, but everything I have had is delicious! Especially the Balsamic Mascarpone Pasta! Also, most things takeout very well. Love it! read more

Sophias has been our go to restaurant in columbua for many years. Food is excellent. The Brandy cream Filet is one of the best dishes I have eaten anywhere. Really enjoy the Tapas as well. Service is always solid. Great place for a nice date night. read more

One of my wife and my favorite restaurants. I had brunch there for the first time and had the Huevos a la Flamenca Pizza. AMAZING. I have loved their lunch and dinner but this took it to a new level.
