It was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. The only suggestion I would make is that you add a side to your pasta dishes. I was looking for a side salad, but there wasn't one on the menu. My server told me that they could make one for me. On last thing, the Texas toast was good, but good pasta needs some good French bread to dip into the sauce. We live in the St. Louis metro area, but my husband's family members live in or around Kansas City, so we visit there frequently. I have been traveling to KC with my husband several times a year since we began dating over thirty years ago. Columbia is approximately halfway between the two locations, so we almost always stop there for lunch. We've eaten at a lot of Columbia restaurants over the years, but there are a couple that we keep coming back to. George's is definitely one of the two. We have raised two children and have been bringing them to George's all of their lives. We used to go to their old location, and when they moved, we followed. The owner, George, is practically a part of our kids' childhood. I can remember changing their diapers in the bathroom, and when they were little, one of them announced to George that his pizza had the best sausage of any pizza anywhere. It was not unusual for George to give each of them a quarter for the candy machine when we stopped in. My kids are in their late twenties now, and they still enjoy going to George's. When one of their friends was heading off to college in Columbia, we made sure to tell him about George's place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As some have mentioned, it is true that the space could use a little updating, and George's manner may seem a little old-fashioned, but for us that's part of the charm - kind of like a trip to Grandpa's house.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We almost always get a pizza to share and sometimes a salad. We all really love George's pizza. The toppings are generous, and the sausage has a great flavor. My husband has also tried the gyro and I have ordered the shrimp platter, and those are both very good too. How utterly disappointing. The box, for the spaghetti was broken. The spaghetti with meat sauce is more like spaghetti with watery meat. The Texas toast had a little Texas toast flavor. Called in an order for Lasagna. It was ready in the 15 minutes they said it would be. Staff was very friendly when I arrived to pick up the order. I was surprised by how little people were there! Went in for dinner. This isn't a high end place but I have to say that my steak was cooked perfectly. The sides for my baked potato came in packets(pet peeve). Eating out looses its charm when I have to squirt my sour cream out of a packet. The decor is dated and a little dusty but the food was ok. I was already half drunk when I staggered the five minute walk to George's from the Super 8 where we were staying. My wife was already there with a few of her graduate students and they said the place was interesting and worth experincing. When I entered, immediately I was greeted/confronted by George himself, who took my hand in warm embrace and nearly crushed my metacarpal bones in a powerful display of masculinity and friendship. I ordered a beer and perused the menu. I settled on spanakopita -- listed as of George's "favorites" and an individual sized sausage/extra cheese pizza, since I'm always in the mood for pizza. While I waited for my order, I continued to methodically dump Budweiser after Budweiser down my throat. Our waitress was polite and ruthlessly efficient. She checked on us frequently, even though she had many tables at the moment. I never had to wait for a refill. When my wife asked for another glass of wine, she received a glass that was filled to the rim, not the standard half glass you find pretty much everywhere else. George entertained us as we drank, his eyebrows were a sight to behold in and of themselves. My order came out in a timely fashion, everything was well prepared and delicious, unpretentious Greek diner food. Exactly what I wanted. A great experience, hazy and boozy, lots of fun. We'll never forget our evening at George's. I rate 4 stars because to get a 5 star from me is to produce something the caliber of Abbey Road, Tommy, Blood on the Tracks, or OK Computer. Anyway, couldn't get a hold of them over the phone, tried for about 15 minutes before just heading over to order takeout in person. The pizza was just meh at best. Way overpriced for the size & overall taste. Cheese wasnt even melted well & I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Wouldn't order it again. I use to go to George's all the time but now I travel miles away to go to Angelo's or D&G. George doesn't put anything back into his business. The place is run down, duct tape patching vinyl seats, dirty windows. His Schick of calling every female honey or beautiful lady is now just creepy. The last time I ate there, I ordered a bottle of beer, he was out of every premium beer on the menu, I went for soda. My wife and I have been going to George's once a month or so for the past year, and have generally been satisfied with the food and the service. Not this time. The service and the food were terrible tonight. It shouldn't be difficult for a restaurant to send out an order that was cooked as requested. When it comes out the second time even more overcooked there's a problem. When you tell the waitress what's wrong (the second time), and she asks if it needs to be cooked more, there's a problem. Told George when we checked out and he got all bent out of shape. No big deal. There are plenty of restaurants in Columbia that appreciate your business. George's isn't one of them so we won't waste our time and money eating there in the future. read more

George's is our go to place, for good food, at a reasonable price, with minimal wait and we always feel welcome. George is a unique guy from the old country who knows that you get ahead with hard work and treating your customers and staff well. The menu has good variety, from inexpensive steaks to pasta to pizza. Pizza is worth the wait! Salad bar is fresh. If you're traveling through Columbia on I-70 it's just off the highway at the Lake of the Woods exit, north of I-70. Easy on and off the highway. The decor will stretch your senses but just remember you don't live there; enjoy the experience! Four years later, after the review just above, this is still one of our favorite places for a reasonably priced dinner. Our last visit, we were especially impressed by the fresh and well stocked salad bar. You just can't beat this place for a small steak, hamburger, or pizza. read more
