Oh what a great time we always have at Three Fat Guys which is located down the road from Sonoma Square, just far enough that you don't get the busy traffic. They have the best wines at a great price point. There's so much to say: love the outdoor setting with high top tables, regular tables, and plenty of couches for lounging. There's a nice small garden to meander through with cornhole and a large connect 4 for those that come with kids. YES, kid friendly, pet friendly as we've come on a couple of occasions with both our dog and cat. They allow outside food, with a small store right next door to pick up food to have with your wine. I primarily stick to whites so my top favorites are their Sauvignon Blanc (2022 & 2023 are fabulous) & Chardonnay. Finally, being Three Fat Guys, we love coming during football season as they have a large TV on the back patio where we can enjoy the games and a good rivalry conversation; Go Niners!!!

Three Fat Guys, how about three great wines? Located along Broadway, otherwise known as the main artery that leads visitors to the venerable Sonoma Plaza, Three Fat Guys Wines comes from the minds of three retired NFL offensive linemen by the names of Tony Moll, Daryn Colledge, and Jason Spitz. They met almost twenty years ago when they were all drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Their first vintage for their winery arrived a mere year later in 2007 as these three entrepreneurs were smart enough to start thinking about their future careers once their playing days stopped. It was Sonoma native Tony Moll who was able to turn his connections and contract with existing vineyards for their grapes and assemble a team of locals to help with production. Now with a small, yet surprisingly expansive tasting room that opened six years ago next to the Sonoma Roadside Shops, and across the street from vineyards that grow their estate Chardonnay, Three Fat Guys is place to be on game day and any other day, as they are pouring some really nice wines in the heart of Sonoma's wine country. What brought a friend and I here on an early weekend afternoon was the fact that Three Fat Guys Wines was participating in Sonoma Sips, which was a month-long promotion of participating wineries in the Sonoma area, which offered three pours of their signature wines for only fifteen dollars. This way visitors get a chance to enjoy a few pours of wine at a reasonable price served at a winery in which they may never have visited in the first place. Upon entry in their tasting room, visitors can sit inside their small tasting room or outside on their covered, at least during the colder season, patio where there are outdoor sofas with cushions and pillows and hightop and regular tables for visitors to sit on. Plenty of outdoor games are ready for visitors including children and pets to enjoy. Our first pour was their chilled 2023 Sonoma Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir. Called their poolside wine and sourced from vines grown not too far away from where their tasting room resides. We learned that their grapes for this wine are pulled earlier than they would be usually harvested, which gives this Rosé a stronger acidity and therefore a crisper finish. For our second wine, we both enjoyed perhaps our favorite wine out of the three we sampled, as their 2021 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Grown directly across from here on Broadway in what used to be a pear orchard, now called Palmer Vineyard, this is a great year round Chardonnay, as it is not your typical buttery or oaky Chardonnay that we are all used to. Thanks to bright notes of citrus and green apples they smartly call this bright white wine a "coastal gem". For our third and final pour of our special tasting, we enjoyed their 2021 Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which was the sole wine we enjoyed that was not on their traditional tasting experience menu. We were told that they suggest that wine lovers buy this Cabernet now, and hold onto it as it ages better with time. With strong leathery notes, it was the perfect way to end our brief tasting as we headed inside and they were nice enough to pour us a fourth wine as my friend saw they sold a sparkling wine. Their Champion Sparkling Brut Rosé was a lively pour of bubbles and bursting with a combination of flavors of bright wild strawberries and tart cranberries with every sip. Three Fat Guys Wines is almost like a community watering hole or tavern, as locals and out-of-towners come in and sip and watch their favorite sporting events on their big screen flat panel television. Members of the community come first, as first responders, members of the military, and teachers all get a discount when visiting, as Three Fat Guys Winery strives to have something for everyone, especially really nicely crafted wines that they can be proud to call their own.

A small venue with a beautiful patio. Such an amazing tasting experience! Ella was incredible - personable and informative! This was the best Cabernet Sauvignon we've had in Napa!

Came for a drink, stayed for the vibes! Do yourself a favor and make this a stop on your list when you go to Sonoma.

We were so grateful to still be able to experience our wine tasting here. Leane reached out to us prior to our visit and let us know what to expect on the day of our tasting and asked if we had any dietary restrictions. The hospitality at Sangiacomo Family Wines is one of the many things that makes this wine tasting experience extra special. We were warmly welcomed by our wine tasting host and educator, Vlada, as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a splash of Sauvignon Blanc that was amazing. Everyone that works here was so friendly and welcoming. Along the visit, you will see a collection of other wine labels from other wineries in Sonoma County and Napa Valley that get their wines from Sangiacomo vineyards. The amount of different wineries that get their fruit from Sangiacomo vineyards is impressive. Before being seated, we soaked in the stunning views of their vineyards on the property. We enjoyed a delicious spread of pastries, cheeses, and charcuterie, which we enjoyed as part of our visit. This winery is known for their exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Everything we sipped was absolutely amazing, and we loved all the wines we tried. Vlada was an exceptional host and we learned so much about this winery. We learned that this is a family owned winery that started out as a pear farm. It changed to a winery and love that it has remained a family owned winery over the years. Our tasting was cozy and we loved all the festive decor. The property has rustic trucks and a tractor on the property that they decorate during the different seasons. We were blown away by how much we loved all of their wines. We purchased a few bottles of wines to enjoy at a later date. An all around exceptional wine experience in Sonoma! Highly recommend to all!

My adoring sidekick and I were invited to a private wine tasting and that experience poured straight into our memory like a perfectly decanted dream. Gary Brooks himself was there, the soft-spoken sorcerer behind Brooks Note Winery. His wines didn't whisper, they sang. Balanced. Elegant. Honest. The kind of Pinot that makes your boots buckle and your palate perk up like a hound on the trail. Somewhere between the third pour and the second "this is amazing," he told us we should stop by if we were ever in California. So, like any pair of polite Texans with a thirst for the finer things in life, we showed up. And let me tell you: the Brooks Note tasting room in Petaluma is a rustic-modern temple to the wine gods. The exposed beams, gleaming ductwork, and warm wood details make you want to cozy up and swirl your glass. It's the kind of place where your taste buds grow up and your Instagram feed gets a glow-up. We had reservations for a late afternoon tasting and were greeted by none other than Lucy, the softest, fluffiest winery pup in California. She strolled over like she owned the place, and honestly, I think she does. My adoring sidekick gave her the full greeting: head rub, affirming tone, instant friendship secured. Then came the Pinot Flight Tasting Menu, a five-part aria of California terroir: * 2022 Monroe Vineyard: Fruit-forward with a hint of the forest floor, like autumn bottled and ready to dance. * 2023 Russian River Valley: Silky as a tuxedoed lounge singer. Red fruit, spice, and grace. * 2022 Weir Vineyard: Earthy, old-soul depth. The kind of wine that feels like it remembers the first time someone planted vines in California. * 2023 Petaluma Gap: Cool, coastal, and fresh like ocean wind meeting orchard breeze. * 2022 Panther Ridge: Lush, structured, with a finish so long it could anchor a ballad. We were mid-way through the second glass when Gary appeared like a magician stepping onstage after the opening act. He welcomed us, remembered Fort Worth, and then proceeded to give us the full behind-the-scenes tour: the tasting room, the barrel room stacked high with rich oak dreams (no clue what kind of wood, but it smelled like wine-soaked heaven), and the metal vats where fermentation magic bubbles into being. It's one thing to drink a wine. It's another to see its origin story. We eventually made our way back to the table, finished our tasting, then slipped into that late afternoon golden glow. Before leaving, my wife said her goodbyes to Lucy with the kind of fondness usually reserved for lifelong friends or the last bite of a perfect dessert. We didn't take any bottles with us because we already had some back home in Texas. As we stepped outside into the California sun, I said, "Their wine bottles don't gather dust, they disappear gracefully after dinner." My wife rolled her eyes and muttered, "You're aging like wine, all right. Getting drier by the year." She's not wrong. Final thought? This is the kind of tasting that doesn't end when you leave the building. It lingers in your memory like a perfectly aged vintage. TL;DR: Petaluma charm meets Pinot perfection. Balanced, elegant wines served in a spacious, welcoming room. Lucy the wine pup deserves her own label. Gary Brooks delivers not only extraordinary wine, but an unforgettable experience. The only thing smoother than the Pinot is my wife's way of saying, "That's enough, dear." Brooks Note isn't a stop, it's a chapter worth savoring. Bonus Dad Joke: What did the grape say when it got stepped on? Nothing. It just let out a little wine... but probably not as gracefully as a Brooks Note Pinot.
