Great location, service, casual atmosphere and the wines are very tasty and well priced. It was a treat to meet Jordan, the owner, who stopped by to introduce himself and chat. He told us about the "community membership" which is an interesting alternative to the typical wine club and something I can totally see as a benefit. Such a nice outdoor winery in Sonoma next to it's sister restaurant. While driving along the Sonoma roads you'll encounter this all outdoor tasting area. Filled with umbrellas and and fire pits for the cold. Family friendly and dog friendly to enjoy. We made a reservation for a Thursday afternoon and greeted with the nicest servers. What I liked about the wine list was how different it was and how our server Nick compared the tastes to common candies. We really enjoyed the rose, and even took a bottle home of the Zin (Carbonic Zinfindel). Nick was very enthusiastic and so knowledgeable. I'm writing this to caution others about our recent wedding at Kivelstadt. I've been a wine club member for 3+ years and thought it would be a great place for our wedding, especially knowing the staff. Unfortunately, we experienced a lot of disorganization throughout the process, and I'm saddened to write this -- mainly due to how the owner, Alex, has handled our complaints by deflecting and shifting blame rather than taking accountability. First, we had agreed in the contract to use one of the venue's band options. I inquired in late November for our May 25 wedding but didn't get an option until January 23--and it was just a one-man band. With no other options offered, we ended up booking our own DJ. We also weren't provided a real catering tasting. The owner said spring ingredients weren't available yet, so we got a sample of their current menu in March. However, 90% of what we tried wasn't on the wedding menu. This made the tasting feel more like a formality than something helpful. The spring menu had fairly basic ingredients, so it didn't make sense that they couldn't give us a true tasting. That same day, we met with the co-owner, Jordan, to go over details. He didn't even know our wedding date when we arrived. We discussed timing, table layout, and the use of the wine cellar as a bridal suite to get ready/hide in prior to the ceremony. He confirmed it would be cleared for us. A month before the wedding, we had a final call with Alex, who said both Jordan and their event manager Danielle would be onsite and in touch with our day-of coordinator. Despite follow-ups, no connection was made. We luckily met Danielle by chance the day before while dropping off décor. She said the wine cellar was supposed to have been cleared months ago. It still wasn't. On the wedding day, my MOH and brother-in-law arrived at 1 p.m. expecting to decorate reception tables, but nothing was set up. Danielle thought tables were going out during cocktail hour and even asked my sister for a layout--something we had already given to both owners. My MOH missed most of my getting ready time to help with setup. The coordinator also had to do a lot of unexpected organizing, including hiding extra tables that were left near the dance floor, which would've shown up in all the photos. Winery guests were still on-site up through 3 p.m., and setup was still happening at that time, despite a 3 p.m. guest arrival time and 4 p.m. ceremony. Jordan, who we were told would be onsite, never showed. We were never informed of this change. It felt like we didn't matter. When I emailed Alex about all of this, he responded with "sorry, but..." statements, denied key points (like guest arrival time), and continued to avoid responsibility. He even claimed our guests arrived at 2 p.m., which both my coordinator, my sister, and their tasting room manager stated guests arrived at 3 pm. Their last tasting guests left just before 3 p.m., which cut into our venue time and setup. It felt like wine tasting revenue was prioritized over our wedding. The wine cellar situation was also blamed on us, even though we'd brought it up before. On the day of, it was barely usable--just enough space for me and my MOH to cram next to the door while the rest was cluttered and unusable. If they had taken ownership and offered even a small gesture (like wine or food for our family), I wouldn't be writing this. But their dismissive response left us with no choice. That said, the staff and food were amazing, and Danielle truly saved the day. If you choose this venue, I highly recommend making Danielle your main contact--she was professional, responsive, and helpful. I hope others have a better experience than we did. read more

Their wines weren't my favorite. I'm typically a fan of red wine, Cabernets to be specific, but this place offered a variety of different wines that I was not a fan of. They were a little reminiscent of Stella or Barefoot.... The only reds we enjoyed were the 1877 Carignane 2020 and the 1950 Charbono 2020 because they were the most normal tasting. It wasn't orange nor did it have fruit bits floating at the bottom, definitely not super inventive, and pretty palatable. This place seems great for the food menu and seems like a spot that is great for kicking back and hanging out, sort of like a wine garden. The food menu was interesting, but definitely California style food, not authentic Hispanic as the names would suggest. Elote was good, but very American with the halved Cherry tomatoes. It needed more lime or paprika. Aguachile was refreshing and delicious but again, needs more lime or chilis. read more

What could I say about this place? A 30 minute drive from Vallejo that was well worth the mild traffic! We were immediately greeted by the warmest hostesses and seated quickly. Tori was who worked with us and she was so kind and patient while answering our questions and giving us information on our wines. We ordered the Soco Pork Belly Sliders and they were delectable! So flavorful and with a little kick! We paired it with the 2 for $15 tasting and went with Sibling Rivalry (because we are sisters who find names like this funny) and The Inheritance. my mouth is watering just thinking about my visit this past weekend to Kivelstadt. This is a must stop when you're in Sonoma, even worth making a trip just for this spot. Only took about an hour driving up from San Francisco midday on a Friday. We did the KC Labs and Off the Beaten Path tastings and loved the variety. Gravignon Blanc and the Native Son were some of our favorites. The food is amazing, you have to get the Glazed Pork Belly. The pork is cooked to tender perfection and pairs deliciously with the mushrooms. The aguachile is a bit more like a crudo and was perfect for the hot sonoma weather in September. We spent a few hours here in their comfortable outdoor seating and left with a few bottles. The wine club benefits are definitely worth it, with free tastings and generous discounts on bottles. The service was great, sharing just enough about the wines but also giving us space to taste slowly and enjoy the warm weather. Looking forward to my next visit to Kivelstadt - I'm telling my friends we're coming every weekend now Update 10/8: As promised, came back for another tasting. Tori guided us through the wines again. We've driven past Kivelstadt Cellars & Winegarden in Sonoma countless times, but never knew what a hidden gem it was. The first thing that strikes you is the laid-back, inviting ambiance, especially on their spacious patio. With plenty of shade and music that could've easily come from our own playlist, it felt like home from the moment we sat down. We were warmly greeted by Tori, who couldn't have been a better guide through the wine list. She truly represented the winery's spirit--knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the unique wines they're crafting. We started with the corn peach salsa, and wow... I'd come back just for that alone. The combination of flavors was amazing--fresh, vibrant, and the perfect appetizer to set the tone for the wine tasting. As for the wine, we sampled the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, red blend, and Charbono. All were excellent, but the Sauv Blanc and Charbono really stood out. Charbono isn't something you see on a menu every day, and it was a real treat--a bold, fun twist on a lesser-known varietal. Kivelstadt is not your traditional winery--they're pushing the boundaries with carbonic, natural, unfiltered wines, and it's clear they're having fun doing it. Let's start with the kids food, the menu fails to reflect that the hot dog is actually a half of a hot dog for $12. What? Literally a half of what appears to be an Oscar Meyer weiner in a piece of brioche. The kids chicken bites were such a small portion that my five year old was still hungry. After ordering a second round, we're in $24 for a what would be a normal kids portion elsewhere.. The cheeseburger from the regular menu was also disappointingly small. Another $24. Did you order sparkling water when asked if you preferred tap or sparkling? It's not listed on the menu, but you scored another $7. Side of lemon aioli for the fries? $1 more. Spicy ailoli? We stopped at this quaint little place on a trolley tour for our lunch and they were Rude and chinsey. We are on vacation from all over the world with money ready to buy their wine and they served a table of 15 - 3 plates of salad, 3 plates of potatoes and two plates of chicken. When we let them know we were short the Main entree the wine pourer acted indifferent and the main server complained that they delivered enough food and people were supposed to only take 1 piece of chicken and that's it. The rest of the table was confused. One person said they took 2 pieces of chicken because the one wing piece they took was small. There was 4-5 of us without the main entree. So after we were starved and lectured, they finally brought a plate with four pieces and acted very put out about it. And so our party of 15 bought zero bottles of wine. read more

Came here because I was looking for a spot to host my welcome event. Wasn't quite what I was looking for but still a lovely spot for wine tasting. It's a bit unexpected place, right on the corner of two fairly busy streets but they built a nice enclosed space that makes you feel like you're someplace different. There's a large event space with lots of tables and even a playground for kids! It feels very family friendly and woodsy with a full kitchen menu as well. I had very high hopes for Kivelstadt as may had touted it's fun atmostphere and good wine. Sadly, that is not what I experienced. We had arrived and been seated but forgotten about after that for 15-20 minutes. We were in no hurry, so not a huge deal, but they were not too terribly busy. Server eventually arrived and seemed annoyed when we said we were there really just to taste wine and had reservations. I was very confused at this point and felt like it could be an interesting tasting to say the least. Fast forward to the wine tasting. The server did not seem interested at all in explaining anything about the wine, which was disappointing, more so we were left with what the wine was and then they walked away. The wine itself was middle of the road as well, which really kept adding to the bad experience. We opted to rush through the tasting as it was very uncomfortable and one I'd prefer to not reexperience. I am hoping it was just a one off, but who knows. The Mrs. and I had did a tasting and had lunch at Kivelstadt Cellars and Winegarden yesterday. Our reservation was for noon, but we arrive around 11:30. We had another tasting booked at Bartholomew so we just wanted to take our time. Kivelstadt is both a winery and a restaurant. The restaurant is actually call Bloom Carneros. You book your tasting experience through the restaurant. Driving up to Kivelstadt it looked like a small wine country roadhouse. In the backyard is the restaurant and winegarden. The hostess, Maya, sat us at the perfect table that put us in the middle of everything. Our server Jenn arrived to take our order. We started off with a wine flight that consisted of a white, rose, and two reds. The tasting was $35 and the overall prices of the wine were very reasonable by Sonoma standards. The lunch menu had so many wonderful things it was hard to choose. The Mrs. and I ended up sharing the Halibut Aguachile which was a culinary work of art designed with Halibut, blood orange juice, avocado, smoked jalapeño purée, and micro cilantro served with house made tortilla chips. Incredible dish and very refreshing. We then took a short break to enjoy our wine and then moved on to the Burrata and Pea Shoot Pesto served with organic baby arugula and Meyer lemon vinaigrette. Served with house made Focaccia. Jenn suggested we order extra bread and I'm glad she did. You only get four slices per order. The bread was incredible and once spread the Burrata and pesto....perfection. Kivelstadt is a family friendly place. They have a little playground for the kids. We love the vibe and concept behind Kivelstadt Cellars Wines and this beautiful wine garden/lounge. We love the attempt at crafting wine from organic grapes, which based on our experience rarely achieves the type of full bodied, flavorful and balanced wines we seek out. Quite honestly, we didn't like every wine we tasted, but Kivelstadt definitely has a wide range of interesting varietals and winemaking styles that can appeal to people with a wide range of palates. They have a few different types/styles of wine flights to choose from in the $35-40pp range (from some more traditional wines to some very fun and unusual varietals/styles). With 3 people in our party, we got to try 12+ different wines. We especially enjoyed their Sparkling Rose, Rose, Syrah, Estate Pinot Noir, and Old Vine Carignane. (Some of their Carignane vines date back to 1877!) They also make a Gravenstein Apple & Chardonnay Grape cofermented wine (Grav Blanc) which is a light and refreshing drink for those who like both ciders and wine. While enjoying our wine tastings with the very friendly and knowledgeable host, Mike, and a cameo from the owner, Jordan, we picked through a good variety of sharable small plates from their sister restaurant, Carneros Bloom, and we had such an amazing afternoon! Good eats included Elote Corn, Halibut Ceviche, Belly Pork, Butternut Squash Mac, Burrata, and Chicken Bites. Everything was artfully plated and tasted so fresh and yummy. As dog-friendly as Sonoma wineries are, it is surprisingly really difficult to find dog-friendly restaurants in the area. Luckily, Kivelstadt is! PROS: (+) Dog Friendly! They even have a dog menu. Pepito didn't try it out because he had just eaten, but I thought this was a cute touch. There are dogs everywhere and I absolutely love that about Kivelstadt. (+) Live music! We enjoyed a fun band playing while eating. CONS: (-) MIMOSAS. They were not fizzy at all. It was like we were drinking straight up Minute Maid from concentrate. Maybe it had wine instead of bubbles? Either way... flat. For the price we were paying, it would be more forgivable if the OJ was fresh at least. (-) WINE. After the experience with the mimosas, we tried another option. The very nice waitress recommend their "almost-sparkling rosé". It tasted like very budget, sweet, rosé... cue the flashback to when I was a college student. The food was pretty decent! I had the avocado toast and fiancé had an eggs Benedict. We both enjoyed our meals. Nothing crazy good or bad either way. We wanted to do an early dinner so booked their 5:30pm slot, their last reservation of the day, which meant that their kitchen was closing soon and yet they were completely unrushed and friendly in welcoming us and walking us through their fantastic menu. All of the food was the right balance of familiar and innovative - a burrata appetizer was made truly special with pea shoot pesto and a flourish of fresh edible flowers on the arugula. The ahi tuna was topped on a bed of avocado. We ordered a number of other dishes (way more than 2 people needed, but we finished it all and had no regrets!) and everything was fantastic. For an indulgent, delicious, and also delightfully unpretentious gourmet experience in wine country this is a great spot for a slightly off-the-beaten-path meal. Kivelstadt is the absolute perfect spot if you're looking for brunch or late lunch with ample outdoor seating, live music, AND you want to wine taste. Because duh, you're in Sonoma Valley and why wouldn't you want to wine taste? My fiancé and I came with our couple friends and had a great time here. We each did a different tasting - I myself did the Wayward Tasting just to try the orange wine and it did not disappoint! Each tasting came with a set of coasters to match each pour, which was really cute. We enjoyed the food we ordered (see photos) but found that nothing was absolutely RAVE-worthy. Portions were decent-sized but not hugely generous, and we ended up having to order a Charcuterie Plate to graze upon after we had all finished our entrees. Currently they're not offering their food/wine pairings on the weekend - we were told they're reservation-only, and only available on weekdays for now. We loved that our server was really friendly, came around our table JUST enough, and was patient enough to describe each pour of each of our different tastings (we really made her work). Food is "farm to table", it's fresh and local. The owner is so kind and makes sure to stop by to see how your experience is going. My fiancé called and ordered mimosas for the group and they promptly brought them out. Our brunch menu was two different eggs Benedict's, avocado toast, griddle cakes, scones and fruit and everyone chose their dish. All of us thought it was delicious.
