I don't understand the bad reviews. I have been a customer for the last two and a half years and the food has always been great tasting and excellent portions. I haven't been here in years, and years ago I would've given them 3 stars, you could at least see them making your plate. However I'm not impressed at all. I agree with some of the other reviews I believe the food was old. The restaurant doesn't smell like nothing is cooking, maybe it was cooked at home. I wasted my money going to this place! When you walk in it doesn't smells like anything is cooking. This restaurant is nasty, even the owner looks nasty. I'm a southern cook and I know when food is old. The presentation was horrible, when you have to go behind a wall to make my food it's old. When you walk into that establishment a sign is posted: no refund, no exchange that let you know the food is terrible. I do not recommend this place. TOO SALTY. SLOPPY presentation. The dressing is mushy and didn't taste like dressing at all. The greens have more stems than greens. I ordered smothered pork chops and they were covered in salty gravy that was thick and gloppy and I had to scrape it off to get the the overly salty pork chops. Passing this by to an appointment, I decided to circle back on my way out. Read a few reviews but they weren't recent so I'm ready to do my part! I ordered the Jr plate so I could choose 2 different 'meats' -smothered pork chop and fries catfish. Two sides - Mac and cheese and collard greens. There are certain sides on certain days so be sure to check out the menu if you have a favorite. Sorry, I inhaled the catfish so no pic. It was fried just past golden and crispy! The smothered pork chop gravy was flavorful. the breaded pork chop was tender but may have sat in the gravy too long. It didn't stop me though! The Mac and cheese was tasty. I even got a part of the cheesy top. Added a little salt and pepper and it was good to me! The greens not so much as they seemed to be missing something. I was there once. I agree with some of the posters. Don't understand why AA folks don't get with the program. No one likes sloppiness, with food that is mediocre, and service that is spotty. But that is what you get with a lot of AA owned businesses. The food was bland. I did not restrictions upon entering. I went to this soul 2 go Express in south holland on 159th street on Sunday November 4 2018 and I must say it was a horrible experience. I ordered 3 side orders and they were. sweet potatoes. dressing with gravy and cranberry sauce and peach cobbler. As I cashed out I noticed they charged me an extra charge for the cranberry sauce. I ask why the charge for the cranberry sauce and a short heavy set lady came out and told me why so I changed my order to greens and was expected a refund for the cranberry sauce I didn't received. Now this is where it gets interesting...the same short heavy set lady said because the demand for cranberry sauce was low that is why they charge for...later the short heavy set lady and I ended up being in a shouting match in front of all of her customers because she didnt want to give my money back for the cranberry sauce. She was soooo loud, ignorant and rude one of the employees had to restrain her and I believe she was one of the owners of this restaurant. l like to support my black restaurants but not when customer service isn't important to them. The guy that restrained her did give my money back at the end and later she hollered for me not to come back again. Be mindful all of this played out in a packed restaurant. I hope I'm offering. constructive criticism. Lately, Soul to Go has slipped in their quality. They have gone from home made corn muffins to no bread offering whatsoever. The greens are very stemmy and need to be upgraded. The meat offerings are pretty good, however. It's time for them to vary their menu more than they do. It's hard to find the brownies when you want them. They frequently run out of those. And they need to have enough food to last the whole day. They frequently will run out of two meat offerings before the end of the day. We need more smiles when being served. read more

I've been here about 4 times now, never have been disappointed! Their fried chicken is made to order and absolutely delicious. The other food is constantly brought fresh from the kitchen as well. I highly recommend their mac and cheese and sweet potatoes! Service has always been fast and friendly, I work close by and service is much quicker than the submarine port next door. They allow you to call in your order as well which is very convenient, it's always ready by the time you come in. Prices are very fair especially for the quality of the food. I love their lunch special: 1 meat, 1 side and a corn muffin for 6.25. Can't beat it All in all I will continue to frequent this place and recommend to others!! read more

Soul 2 Go is supposed to be a fast food spot versus a sit down restaurant. I guess it's not actually fast food though, since it took 20 minutes for my chicken wings! So I think the name Soul to Go is accurate given there are only two tables and it's really intended for you to get your food and go! Customer service is adequate at best...but I didn't run into any problems. I ordered the fried chicken wings with green beans and macaroni and cheese. Also had peach cobbler. The chicken took 20 minutes. On the one hand it was fresh...on the other hand that is a long time to wait for some chicken to go with your meal. The taste was just ok. I would prefer Harold's or Uncle Remus...even Popeyes actually. The green beans tasted canned...maybe Glory's green beans. The macaroni and cheese was ok but needed salt. What poor customer service... I just left this restaurant as a 1st time customer. After raving and salivating over my box of food for 5min in my car directly outside of the restaurant, I pull up a delicious heaping spoon of macaroni and cheese only to find a coiled HAIR!!!!! I was so disgusted and disappointed...but not as disappointed as I became after returning to the restaurant counter with my hairy macaroni only to find unconcerned faces and unapologetic tones regarding this HAIR that was clearly not mine. Not only did they refuse to refund my money, they prevented another customer from trying to refund my money and on top of that had the nerve to offer me another carton of the SAME EXACT FOOD!! After speaking with the manager/owner over the telephone with her "take it or leave it" attitude" I will never patronize this business again. The elderly lady (assuming she was the owner) told me fried chicken was a 15 min wait. Seeing as it would be made fresh, I had no problem with the wait. 45 minutes later my order was still not up. I was told that they gave my order away and that she had to make it again. I waited another 15 minutes. She added one piece of chicken for my hour wait. However FORGOT to add my peach cobbler. They never apologized once. The young girl behind the register had the WORST attitude. And the boys working in the back kept staring through the kitchen window trying to get my attention.
