The establishment is rather dark and unwelcoming although the service was quite acceptable. Very hard to observe from the street. Although they ostensibly observe Chicago's "mask mandate" I could not help but observe them "enforce" the policy on a potential customer (great to see) while NONE of the staff wore mask! The food was acceptable though not remarkable. The rib eye was tender, a perfectly grilled medium rare, though palatably under seasoned. The green beans and greens were well seasoned and almost perfectly prepared (green beans a bit soft--they'd be perfect if cooked a minute less, but are cooked to order). The meat loaf was tasty but rather pedestrian. The mashed potatoes were a bit bland and not rescued by the gravy which was good. I suspect neither was prepared to order, unlike the steak and vegetable side offerings. The cornbread was also okay--great flavor but not spectacular. I'll return to further explore the menu offerings, but can only offer a 7 out of 10 today. The food is above average, but nothing to write home about. read more

This food was good. Found them on Uber Eats. Ordered the ribeye steak (medium rare) with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. EVERYTHING was delicious! The steak was well seasoned and came with sautéed green peppers and red onions, which was a nice touch. The macaroni and cheese was baked, but still creamy. Collards were great too. They offered to remake when I was free (great). Call at 4:06pm am told my food will be brought to my car. 35 min go by, no food no phone call. Go inside my food is just sitting there on the bar. Something told me to just check the box. There sits catfish. I can't eat catfish. Most places serve cod, or specify if they don't. We have been supporting this place for years. Good service at times, poor service at times. But our last visit was the final visit. We live nearby and love to support the local business especially Black owned. We came in with a party of 8 plus our 4 year old granddaughter. Also, due to COVID-19 all food and drink are served in disposable containers (portions seem smaller). Finally, the waitress was busy so I waited for someone to help me with a question, the older lady that works there asked me... "What's Wrong!!?? Not, 'How may I help you'...nothing polite. My response.."Nothings Wrong...I then asked my question. There actually was a lot wrong. Too much wrong over the years and not enough right! Let me begin with a positive. The food is absolutely phenomenal. I honestly don't have any complaints regarding the quality of food. The only complaint I have is the service. The waitress (which works the bar) is EXTREMELY slow. It literally took us 40 mins to get some fried chicken and a couple of sides. The chicken is fried to order which is a good think because it's fresh but Good Lord, they are slow. We were never checked on again, asked if we needed a refill, napkins, anything. I came across this place by pure accident . I use to frequent the older New Look and though it was old, I did appreciate the retro vibe and delicious food. I was devastated when they closed. So imagine my surprise when on a whim, I drive by and lo and behold they are OPEN .... Unfortunately , this is where the similarities (name) ends. After being assaulted by numerous waitstaff at the door..... Bum rushed or filtering customers , I'm still trying to decide; THEY told me their special. I got the catfish steaks , Mac n cheese , sweet potatoes, and red beans and rice . My daughter had the smothered chicken . It was delicious as well as fresh . Stopped in after work with one of my managers. I had heard about the place on a couple of media outlets and loved the fact that it is Black owned. We actually stopped in for a quick drink after work but ended up staying for hours. Also enjoyed a couple of appetizers. The wings were super crunchy and seasoned well; as were the fish nuggets! My husband recommend that I try this restaurant and I must say it was good . It's a really small place that you would drive by if you are not careful! I ordered the smothered Chicken, yams and Mac & Cheese. The gravy on the chicken was thicker then I'm use to but still good, the yams was delicious and the Mac & cheese was very cheesy. I also had a Mimosa that they didn't have the champagne for so somebody had to go to a store to get some. I thought that was very different! Full disclosure: the chef came out to give us a free side & desert sample (more sweet potato fries & pecan bread pudding) I think because of our wait. This used to be one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants that I often visited. The last few times that I've come, I could tell the customer service was on the decline but this was by far the worst experience. It took nearly 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge me and my fiancee. I had to keep turning around to get the bar tender/servers attention. The first time she was holding a conversation with two other patrons, not serving them but holding a conversation. I looked back again and noticed that the bar tender was eating. I was able to catch her attention to see if the restaurant was opened and she looked and said she'll be there in a second. She came with no menus saying that they were only serving appetizers. We ordered appetizers and placed orders for food and it took nearly 10 minutes to get the drinks. And ain't no telling how long for the food. I watched my food sit on the counter for nearly 5 minutes. I am really disappointed. I expected better. There use to be a bar tender/server here name Robin who was on point. I don't know what is happening now, but I pray that it gets better. The sad thing about it is that the owner was here the entire time.
