They don't any pork products !!! Good was so good. Decor was nice, clean, with neo soul playing in the back ground. Tee Tender the bartender said there's Open Mic on Friday nights. I will most definitely be back .

Enjoyed myself I will be returning definitely...

Great service, good food. It's kinda hard to find, pretty dim inside. Wasn't too much going on. Try the pan seared lemon and dill catfish!!!

I had the short-ribs, as suggested by another reviewer and they were literally fall off the bone tender and and tasted fabulous.

A friend recently sent a post to me from Instagram of a man who came to King's Soul Food Gallery…read moreand got hooked on the pancakes. That post piqued my interest and my appetite. That, of course, meant I had to see if the hype was real. THE HYPE IS REAL. I went early for breakfast. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs scrambled with cheddar, and potatoes. On the side, I ordered two pancakes. Everything is cooked to order, which is always plus because you aren't getting something reheated or microwaved. The quality of the food is also an indicator because you can tell by texture and temperature throughout what is on the plate. The cook came to the table to get confirmation of how I wanted my food plated. I gathered that some people are picky about their food touching, so he wanted to know if I was okay that the gravy may touch my eggs and potatoes. Servers, cooks, and chefs usually never confer with diners to inquire about peeves like food touching, so it was a bonus as service goes. On to the pancakes, you really don't need syrup. The pancakes are butter and lightly sweetened. For anyone who has had Johnny cakes, the pancakes are reminiscent of those but without cornmeal. The other thing about the pancakes was that they held heat instead of getting cold immediately. Some people may rattle off how some other place or how their own pancakes are the best in the world. Be that as it may, the pancakes that I had at King's Soul Food Gallery were the best that "I" have had. I will have to make my way back to sample their lunch. There is some fried catfish, collard greens, and sweet potatoes that I want to try. THE HYPE IS REAL.

This is the spot for consistent, flavorful, "soul food" on the south side! Yes, I know the owner,…read morePastor Ralph Driver and his entire family, but it's more about the history of servicing and loving PEOPLE. The food is phenomenal, especially the Cornish hens, and Kings had the BEST MAC and Cheese on all of Chicago! This place takes care of people; from large portions, to feeding the needy, you must visit this spot. Great dessert section as well, especially the Carmel cake. Lastly, this may not be for you, but if you need prayer, a word of encouragement, ask for Pastor Driver or any of his children-you will not only get "food for your stomach, but most importantly, Food for YOUR SOUL!" I highly recommend Kings!

Not that expensive Soulfood fusion stuff either. Good old fashioned soul food. Let me say, it ain't cheap but there is something for every budget. If you cannot afford short ribs, get something you can afford. Duh. Fortunately, I can afford em and so I got them. They were perfect. Gravy was perfect. I was hesitant about the red beans and rice BUT they were some of the best I've had outside of my own. Greens were delicious as well. The portions were huge! Me and my wife were talking about how heavy our plates were. We each had three full meals of each plate. And when she wasn't looking, I ate some of hers too. She got the turkey wings (fire), mac and cheese (fire), and dressing. She said that was dry but when I went to steal some from her it was all gone. It was some good outside the house dressing. For desert we got the pudding cakes or cake puddings...idk what they are really but it was delicious. I have no idea why this place has three stars. Yall tripping. No, it doesn't taste like YOUR mother's but your mother's might be trash to someone. Is it good still? Absolutely.

A while back I discovered that Morrison's had it as a special on Wednesdays so went down south and tried it. It was exactly as I love it, EXCEPT the dish was soaked in spices that made it nearly impossible to eat. I LIKE spicy food, and this was insane. After that, I tried to call and ask if I could arrange to get some ,made without the heat. I called and called, left messages and tried to talk with the manager, and no one ever called back or addressed my question. That's too bad too, cause even with the distance away I live in the city I would have been a semi regular for it. So, if anyone knows of another good c&d like Army & Lou's used to have, PLEASE write me at cmseigel@gmail.com! :)
