My cousin recommended this restaurant, so I decided to give it a try. I am writing this review just 10 minutes after tasting the food: 6 pieces of chicken wings, potato salad, and green beans. I'm giving it two stars for the customer service. Unfortunately, the food was very subpar. I'm not sure what all the hype is about; the chicken even had feathers! Please wash your chicken completely--what a turn-off! As for the sides, the potato salad had an overwhelmingly strong mustard flavor. A little sugar could have balanced it out nicely. The green beans were good, but they really lacked flavor. Lastly, the cornbread was horrible--super dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for days. I couldn't finish dinner; that's how bad it was. I am so disappointed, especially since this was my first experience with this restaurant. It's a local home cooking vibe, food is prepared fresh, so order ahead if you're in a rush. A small venue with its own small parking lot. Chill vibes, great smelling food. Staff is fast & efficient and the food is usually good. They are expensive, so be warned about that. They also do catering & you can find them at mobile events sometimes too. Give them a try if you're in the area. Today I had the Fried Chicken meal w/Yams and Mac & Cheese, and an Uptown to drink. Which for those who don't know, is Southern style Sweet Tea w/Lemonade. Today is Sunday June 7, 2026. This was my first time at this so called restaurant. The guy who was at the register that took my order had an attitude. Then they didn't have any more banana pudding at 1:55 pm. I had to get peach cobbler which is a mess and taste like syrup and sugar. I tasted the collard greens and macaroni and cheese and it was ok. I will not be returning as customer service is everything. The owner would be very disappointed at how her family is running this so called establishment. I was warned that Mama's is not as good as it used to be. I should have heeded the warnings! Turkey wings were incredibly dry and tasteless, also weirdly huge. Collard greens must have soaked in vinegar and only vinegar lol Potato salad was super chunky, warm, and wet from greens. They used to wrap the salad so that it would be separated from other foods. I've had little Debbie's that taste better than the almost 10$ slice of cake. I ordered through Uber eats and called to ask if the yams could be switched for potato salad, they happily obliged. I had to drown them in hot sauce in order to eat them. Don't expect southern style baked Mac and cheese because you won't find it here. It was tasty, but it was like noodles and cheese sauce mixed together. The cornbread and potato salad were both a hit! I ordered peach cobbler, but when I got home, it was not in my bag. Ugh! Check your order before you leave to make sure it's correct. They have a vast menu, so I am more than willing to go back and try something else. I rarely write reviews; however, due to the poor customer service received when trying to rectify a messed up order, I feel the need to call this out. 1.) the business messed up my order and then argued with each other about the messed up orders while I was on the phone. 2.) A woman who advised that she was the owner's wife would rather argue with the inconvenienced customer over the phone (about backend refund processes), instead of making a concession that would satisfy the customer. The website says "call ahead" I can imagine due to the pandemic, they're taking their orders on the phone but I've been calling them for the past half hour and I can't get through. 18 times I've called them! 18 times!!! One time someone actually answered. She said "hold" then kept me on hold for 10 minutes only to intentionally disconnect the call. I've called several times after that. Sometimes, it goes to an automated VM where you can't leave a message. Other times...someone hangs up on me and yet other times, I'll get a busy signal. What business does that??? I live around the corner and have had their food several times. The food is good but the poor service far outweighs the seasoning in their soulfood. Their prices are far from reasonable and the portion size is simply adequate. I try to support small businesses, especially locally and Black-owned but some businesses are just not worth it and this...is....one...of....them. So I've been dying to come to this place for a while now. I literally lived around the corner for 10 years and never stopped by this place. I read reviews saw to call in my order and did today. I ordered 2 dinner meals 6 wings with Mac and cheese and candied yams and a BBQ chicken with yellow rice and string beans. So I walk in and this place is packed literally I couldn't open the door because someone was right behind it. I walked to the front counter and saw the chaos of the kitchen people going back and forth looking for orders. There was an older gentlemen on the phone and I watched him take 6 orders. I stood there for about 7-8 mins with no one even looking my way. The guy gets off the phone from taking orders, comes behind the desk to grab a bag from his friend. As he's walking back behind the counter I ask "hi excuse me I ordered about 40 mins ago would you be able to tell me if my order was ready?" His response " Do you see my jacket still on? I just got to work. I haven't even had time to put my jacket down. I don't know anymore about your order than you do." Oh??? This is the shade I get on the Lordts day?? Even the woman standing next to me gave him the side eye. I understand it's packed but customer service is everything. If I hadn't travelled all the way there and paid for a Lyft I would have left. He did however go look for my order and come back to tell me it wasn't ready. I finally got my order and got the hell out of there it was sooo packed in such a tiny space. I get home and finally try this mamas food I've heard great things about. The wings weren't seasoned, had no flavor. The baked Mac and cheese to me taste and looked like it wasn't done cooking. The cheese consistency wasn't good but it was the best seasoned thing in my plate. The candied yams were not CANDIED literally just boiled cut up yams. No brown sugar in sight. I've never had dry yams at a southern food restaurant before. Like I'm still confused about that. The BBQ chicken dish my mom had and she didn't like it either. She said it was flavorless. The best thing we had in our bag was the cornbread. It was warm and delicious! Wish the pieces were bigger they were so good. Very disappointed in my trip here spent $27.55 on food we just threw out. A colleague of mine mentioned this spot one day for lunch, since then my entire "work crew" and I have been regulars here! I do recommend calling in advance to place your order if you're in a rush especially if you're getting fried food, since all fried food is made to order I love that you get to pick TWO sides with your dinner order (I normally have left overs for lunch the next day in the office or dinner that same night). I get double Mac and Cheese, I do wish that they sold macaroni salad as a side option (it's only available on the catering menu). While I've tried a few things on their menu. My favorite thing to get is the fried turkey chops (it's a great alternative to pork chops); they are nice and hefty! Sometimes I find myself confused between turkey chops and their mild bbq chicken; so i'll cheat and get the bbq sauce on the side.
