Came in to get a new head unit installed on a 1991 Mercedes 420SEL. Willie sold me an Alpine UTE-73BT for $179. It was $30 more than Crutchfield, but that was fine. I was going to have them do the install, so I was fine paying more. Dropped it off at 10am expecting to get it back the same day, but that didn't happen. First they said that they couldn't get the factory Becker deck out so they may have to destroy the faceplate. What? They said someone must have broken the pins, because their removal keys weren't working. Mind you, this factory deck has NEVER been touched. Original owner here! Gave my permission to do what they needed to remove. Mind you, they didn't do a bad job, despite forcing deck out. There was minimal damage to the front faceplate, only the side connectors. But still. I'm not convinced they had the right radio removal keys. Next issue, they said there were some stock mini amplifiers connected so they had to do some rewiring. Fine. Do whatever you need. Then, they said the antenna wasn't working and wanted to install a new windshield antenna. At this point, I just wanted the work done so I gave the go-ahead. I picked up the car then next day. Everything seemed fine. Come to realize the hazard light button wasn't working. Then noticed the analog clock was not working. Then it dawned on me why they couldn't get the stock antenna to work. They blew the 8amp fuse that the radio, antenna, hazard switch and clock were connected to. I replaced the fuse, and presto, clock and hazards are now working. Soooo. They must have re-routed power to the new head unit from a different source and never bothered mentioning it to me. They sold me a new antenna cause the factory antenna "wasn't working" when it was likely a blown fuse. My 1 day $479 estimate turned into a 2 day $800+ install. As a professional install shop, I expected much, much more. 1. You should have been able to figure out the fuse was blown and not sell me a $200 antenna for no reason other than the factory antenna doesn't work. Did you not check the fuse? 2. This should have been done in 1 day as promised. It was a stock head unit replacement. 3. If you're going to re-route power, maybe you should mention that so I know which new fuse to check if I have issues in the future. 4. How about testing everything else stills works after the install? I.e. hazard lights? Clock? To their credit, the new deck works fine and Willie is a nice guy. He's just the sales guy, so I can't fault him too much. Again, I expected more from a professional install. read more

Paid $1075 for viper system. Same day install but will take 5hrs to install. I got the viper alarm and 2 way remote Start with an extra 1 way remote. This system included the upgrade alarm system and AutoStart. Yes it's expensive but my car was broken into and now I have the confidence backed by the VIPER alarm brand. read more

They are negligent, unprofessional, and if they damaged your vehicle like they did mine, they won't take responsibility.. *Long story short* THIS IS A CHOP-SHOP. NOT A PROFESSIONAL AUTO INSTALLATION BUSINESS. THEY DAMAGED MY CAR IN TWO PLACES, DENIED THEY DID ANYTHING, THEN TRIED TO BULLY ME (A sexist move for sure). *For the full story, read on...* I was just here, and these guys did a botched job on my car trying to remove a Lo-jack-type GPS device on my car that THEY ORIGINALLY INSTALLED! -- Which ultimately they couldn't find. First off, I called and they told me it's an easy 20-30 minute job to remove the device. This was a device that was installed in my car when I took out a car loan from Montana Capitol (that's another Yelp review waiting to be written). So I pulled into the garage, asked them if I could stay in the car while they removed it (as I remember seeing it installed under the car), and they said, "OH NO, WE NEED TO BE INSIDE THE CAR". So I was like, "OK". I stood outside work these guys work. And the longer and longer I waited, I could clearly see that something was wrong. These guys had everything open - they opened up my passenger-side door with a drill in-hand, they opened up my trunk digging through my personal stuff, they moving my seats back and looking behind there. I went up to the guys and said, "IS THERE A PROBLEM, WHAT IS GOING ON?" And they go, "WE CAN'T FIND THE DEVICE". By this time, my trunk was wide open, they shuffled around all of my work stuff papers in back of my seat, the center console was open, the side-door was open, a panel looked like it had been shifted on the inside of my passenger side. So I said, "WHY ARE YOU GUYS DIGGING THROUGH MY ENTIRE CAR? ISN'T IT UNDERNEATH THE CAR?" They said, "WE CAN'T FIND IT THERE SO I'M LOOKING ELSEWHERE". I said, "WELL IF I'M STANDING RIGHT HERE, WHY DON'T YOU JUST ASK ME AND I CAN MOVE MY STUFF. I THOUGHT YOU WERE JUST GOING IN THE HOOD AND UNDER THE CAR." I was so pissed because they said it was a quick 20-minute job, and here we were 25+ minutes later, they'd made no progress, and if they had to go into other areas of my car that I never authorized, they should have asked me - I was standing right there. I was IRATE. I yelled at the owner, asking him what was going on, and he told me to leave. AS SOON AS I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR, I COULD SEE SOME THINGS WERE OFF. I asked the owner, "Did you guys touch the INSIDE PANELS of my car". He goes "NO", "We didn't touch that." Long story short, I got the car back with a BROKEN DIVIDER IN MY CENTER CONSOLE AND A BIG GAP ON THE SIDE WHERE A PANEL WAS REMOVED. I drove away, and called the owner and told him "THE DIVIDER ON THE CENTER CONSOLE ON MY CAR IS BROKEN". He goes, "WE NO BREAK ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR". I asked him, "WHY WHY WAS CENTER CONSOLE OF MY CAR OPEN?" He goes "WE WEREN'T IN THERE." THEN: I called back a second time. He goes, "OH, I ASKED MY GUYS, AND THEY REMOVED THE CENTER CONSOLE, BUT WE NO BREAK NOTHING. YOU HAD EXISTING DAMAGE IN YOUR CAR." Then I said, "WELL, WHY DID YOU DENY THAT THEY WERE WORKING THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE"? He kept saying,"WE NO BREAK NOTHING IN YOUR CAR." Then I asked him about the side-panel that was loose, and ON THE SAME SIDE, the netting on the holder was ripped, he said, "WE WEREN'T IN THERE." I called bullsh*t on him so fast! I told him I'd already taken photos, and I wanted to email them to him. He said, "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR EMAIL"... Make a long story short, I'm getting an estimate on these broken and damaged pieces, and I'm going to escalate this issue once they try to deny it again, because they are NEGLIGENT, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND THEY DO BAD WORK. Came here about 5 days ago from San Jose which is an hour long drive to get my current Kenwood stereo system reset. The previous owner had a username and password set up for some reason & the general manager at the dealership that I bought the vehicle from took it down here to Sound & Alarm to see if they were able to do it. They said yes of course & when I came down the 2nd time, I waited 4 hours for them to tell me they couldn't do it. Lol I would have not wasted my time, energy, nor the gas to come all the way down here from San Jose FOR THE 2ND TIME THIS WEEK, if they would not have garunteed they could do the job. But they did, only reason why I did waste my time. Is because they GARUNTEED they would get the job done. To sum all of this up, take my advice and don't come here if you're trying to get that line of work done. Not worth the time. I feel bad to write a bad review to this place cos the owner is a nice guy. But at the end of the day I gotta keep it real. Heres why Im giving this place 1 star... At the time I just bought a brand new sound system for my car. 2 amps, 4 6x9's and 2 12's and lots of cables. But instead of going to a beat shop to install it I went the cheap route and had a mechanic I found on craiglist install it for me. Well you know what they say, when youre cheap you buy twice! My car is so big it was too much work for him so I had to go to a beat shop to get it "professionally" installed, I went to Sound & Alarm because a couple friends recommended it so I thought it would be a good choice. So I get it installed there, it was more than I was expecting to pay but it looked like it was installed nicely and it was working great. Til a week later. The bass just goes out on me. My subs were not working and the amp going to the subs looked like it wasnt getting any power. WTF right? So I go back there and since they have a "warranty" on their work they said they will fix it for free. They got it to work within 5 minutes which made me happy but when I ask the mechanic, not the owner, what was wrong with it he said dont worry about it. Very unprofessional attitude. The next day my subs go out AGAIN! This is the 2nd time. Go back to the shop and same thing, 5 minutes later he has my subs working again. When I ask the mechanic why its happening so often he literally says "I can't tell you". Then I ask him what happens if they go out again, He told me he would have to charge me $20 next time. Im on my way back home and woopty fucking doo, the subs went out AGAIN. This is the 3rd time. In one fucking week. So I got back the next day, he fixes it in 5 minutes once again and once again he wont tell me what was wrong with it. It actually ends up working for a whole week and then woopty fucking doo, the subs go out AGAIN! But after going there 3 times and the same thing happening every single time I was done with Sound & Alarm. I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he told me to go to Twin Brothers on 17th St. between Mission St. and Capp St. So I went there. Its a small shop that does tints, beat and rims. I had never met them but they were already very friendly and when I told them about my problem he said dont worry about it he will check it for free. And within 5 minute the one mechanic working there has already diagnosed the problem. He told me what the problem was the whole time and why my subs kept going out one me. He fixed it for $10 fucking dollars within 5 minutes and I havent had a problems since. The only problem with my subs was the wire that connected to my subs were about a foot too long, and because it was too long everytime I hit uneven road the wire would disconnect. That was the only thing wrong with my stereo and after going to Sound & Alarm all those times they still couldnt figure it out??? EPIC FAIL The mechanic at Sound & Alarm has this stuck up attitude about him, that everyone I know describes... Not just me. He acts like he is such a pro at sound, like he is the best in the game or something and everyone is below him. But he cant even figure out such a simple problem? EPIC FUCKING FAIL read more

I wouldn't go to this hell hole anymore.. the Asian dude who used to drive a mustang roush is not working there anymore (this place was very knowledgeable and the techs used to be so kind and would tell u exactly whats going on with your car and would actually be careful with the panels of your car.) The only tech who is installing stuff here is george. guy was so pissed that i installed my own stereo and couldnt find where the short was. (duh that's why I'm bringing it to them because they call themselves the pros) after finding out what the hell was wrong with my car, within 15 min he fixes it.. but the total amount of time he worked on the car was a little over an hour.. the owner hussein charges me more than what he quoted me because he said that it took his guy a longer time to fix my car. WTF! I went down their garage and the guy was chatting with some fat chick in a van and stopped working on my car thats why he took longer than expected. George the installer would'nt even tell me what the hell he did to fix my car's problem. He said "if you touch it we will charge you again". wtf its my damn car, i can do whatever i want to it .. and the worse thing about this is that i bring my car back at home, and as soon as i turned on my radio and listened to my cd, the only panel that he removes where the fuse box is (it has a 4" speaker) has a rip and now is making a rattling noise.. I have to buy a new one now. Ever since their nicer installers left, this business went downhill. No wonder they are not as busy as before because the only installer that they have is effin rude and is so unprofessional.. you guys have been warned! read more

i Installed a deck in my 07 civic and couldn't figure out why i wasn't getting any sound to my speakers. I brought it to sound and alarm to have them diagnose and fix the problem. They succeeded. They simply bypassed the stock amplifier. The other problem that i had which they couldn't figure out was, why my deck was staying on after the key had been removed from the ignition. After an hour wait, they pretty much told me that the deck was shot. They were wrong. The deck works perfectly fine. The wire harness that i purchased had the two power wires mixed up. Some how the mexican dude who supposedly does installation for a living couldn't figure that out. They charged me 100 dollars to diagnose one problem. This obviously is just a bad experience. Would i come back again to get some installation done? Probably not. It was a total rip off!! read more

This place has all the rudimentaries of a sound & alarm place. Though it might lack the slickness of some other establishments, they get the customer what they want and get them on their way. They carry the top-of-the-line stuff, and have options for the lower budgets, too. A sound joint with its own show car (in the showroom) represents a business that takes its audiophiles seriously, and doesn't mind taking it to the extremes. Unfortunately, my needs are not so sophisticated; rather pedestrian, actually. Hussein, Chris and George take very good care of my ride, installing just enough obnoxious volume to piss off my neighbors when I roll up my driveway, and enough alarm to scare off the neighbors that wanna do something about it. Just kidding. They took into consideration what kind of music I listen to, what my listening habits were, and how I don't want my slobbery dog bumping into my subwoofer. Voila! They put the subwoofer in my center console, out of sight, and not out of mind. The alarm is customized so as not to sound like everybody else's, cuz I ain't getting up in the middle of the night for someone ELSE's car. Hussein isn't the greatest communicator ever, you kind of have to hit him up with all the right questions. However, it is of great importance to take care of the customer. Chris is pretty good with customer relations and product knowledge, and likes to work quickly. George is a friendly installer dude who gets you back on the road quickly. I appreciate that this place is pretty no-nonsense as I'm a meat-and-potatoes type of customer. I don't need all them neon lights and watercooler in the showroom with the comfy lobby. This place is such a rip-off! This review is a few years late but here it goes. I was upgrading from stock to a nice stereo system. I had bought almost all the parts at Best Buy. Top of the line head unit, 4 interior speakers, subs, and 2 amps. I brought it all to Sound and Alarm to be installed. I bought the wiring there and 2 more speakers (the ones I bought for the rear were the wrong size....so they say) I paid a pretty penny to have it all installed...like in the neighborhood of $1000. When I got home I noticed the rear speaker cover was broken into 100 pieces. Sound and Alarm would not fix it. They said it broke when they took it off and they couldn't help. I bought a new speaker cover online and brought it back to Sound and Alarm... they wanted to charge me $80 bucks to replace the cover they broke. A few months later I wanted to listen to the Giants game. At this point I had only listened to mp3s over Bluetooth. ....The radio didn't work at all. No AM No FM, No Sports, No Talk Radio, No Morning Shows Nada About a year after that I was playing with the sound and went to adjust the fader. All 4 interior speakers are on the front channel. WTF?!? Instead of wiring up the speakers properly and on parallel circuits they were just daisy chained together. Not cool. What happened to all the cable I bought from Sound and Alarm. Did they use it on the next car after they did a half ass job on my car? I still need to get my radio fixed and my speakers rewired. Do not ever go to this place. read more
