I generally like supporting local small businesses because i like dealing with the owners of the business rather than the employees. I have been a customer of Sound Insight for over 20 years now and have gotten to know Fred Kaplan the owner. He put in my first plasma tv when the technology was brand new and did a perfect job integrating it with the sound system he installed at the same time. I have subsequently upgraded my tv and Fred recently set me up with streaming services to go with it - I know I'm way behind the times That it took so long. Being of an older generation new technology challenges me and Fred therefore made my system simple and easy to maneuver. And after Optimum came in and switched me to fiber optic cable they basically carelessly dismantled all of the good work done by Sound Insight. Fortunately for me all it took was one phone call and Fred came over that same day, fixed everything and wouldn't even let me pay him for an emergency "house call". I don't know where to start ... Fred, Al, Rod and team. I seem to know all of them already like family -) I started by shopping for a new TV , parlaying into a complete system with universal remote ... in our great room (no up sell on their part ). The end result is not only are these guys great at steering / guiding you towards the right equipment ... but their prices are competitive and more importantly, they stand behind their products and service. I have had some adjustments / learning curve with the new system and they are right there to walk me through my difficulties and on sight visits when needed. I moved into a new house and wanted the new TV to be the best, have Sonos, use the existing sound system built into the home and have a very clean install where I would not see any wires (including the Fios box). I got much more. I got the same or better prices I found on Amazon or Best Buy. I got the owner Fred personally checking out my house and being here for the install. I am thrilled. I like shopping locally and want to support the little guy and some of the other reviews on yelp scared me but that was all bs. Dealing with Steven Rabitz was not only a nightmare, but a real horrible experience! I am mainly reviewing the 2 channel side of their so called business, although I am sure it carries over to both sides of their businesses. We had a written deal to purchase, with trade, at a definitive date and at a definitive price. Sale was to be made within 6 days with funds wired to Rabitz then meet to exchange our items. Rabitz then SOLD the unit without consulting me to achieve a higher margin! He and his partner Fred did a very unethical transaction and had the audacity to explain that I had not placed a deposit on the item! They could not wait 6 days or contact me PRIOR to the unethical sale! Avoid this business at all costs... read more

Fred takes the prize for the worst vendor I have work with since I bought my house a little over a year ago. Very unreliable the most sloppy worker and a liar. Trying to support a local store to my location so took a chance before looking at yelp, big mistake. Took over a month to get started then over six months to install home theater that was never completed. Fred strung me along breaking promise after promise to finish the job which never happened. Soon as he has your money you are done, he will have no problem screwing you select anyone else for a much better chance. I had a terrific experience working with Alan Stone at Sound Insight. His unusual knowledge of old stereo equipment, as well; as new digital equipment was invaluable. Al showed me how my old equipment could be integrated with the array of digital options available today, via a device called sonos connect--all controllable from my cell phone. Al has the knowledge of an equipment-guru and the patience of a Saint. You can tell he really wants to help. Had a Sonos system installed for the outside and instead of using black wire for hooking up the speakers throughout the yard Fred used white and it looks ridicules because it doesn't blend in with the earth. He should have used the black as discussed. 2 Speakers are on posts that rotted out and we were promised they wouldn't rot out. He promised to come replace the posts & keeps being a no show even though day/time frame was set up several times. Also for the electrical wires coming out from the basement through the foundation he never put an electrical cap on it so the wires are exposed as is our basement to critters using that as a gateway. They never filled in the foam insulation he ripped out in the basement to get access to the outside & he said he would. Fred is very unreliable & one of the employees have MAJOR tude! We have been using another very reliable company for all our Sonos/tv needs. read more

Stopped in the showroom and was helped by Eric Straussman - Project Manager. made an appointment for him to come by the house on Monday (was in showroom Wednesday). He left me a voicemail message Sunday night telling me he would have to reschedule as something came up. He was going to call me Monday afternoon to reschedule. Never heard from him. Finally reached out to him myself and he will try to get me in by the next week or so. Terrible customer service and absolutely no follow up. Guess you have to deal with the owner because this was a terrible experience. Called a competitor of his, they are coming within 24 hrs of my call to do installation and also give estimate on all the work I want done. All ended up with much better pricing. Sounds Insight lost a large customer. Would never go in there again, not even to use their bathroom. read more

Had the absolute worst experience dealing with Fred. We were a returning customer and needed new work done with 2 new televisions. Fred strung us along fior 3 weeks saying he'd make an appointment once he got his work calendar set for the week. Repeated phone calls, emails, and even a visit to the store and still no reply to when he could come and do the work. Our televisions are still in the boxes. Having another tech coming from a different company. So disappointed as I like to support local small businesses. Wouldn't let Fred and Sound Insight into my house even if they wanted to do the work for free read more

I had my television and sound system installed by Fred. They were on time, and the installation went perfectly. The system works great. I had a bit of anxiety because the system seemed quite intimidating. Sound Insight were not at all intimidated and had it all working in no time. Worst company. I had asked for a simple job to be completed which was installing 16 ceiling speakers. While I was at work FRED and a co-worker came over argued with my wife about not taking off there wet dirty work boots before coming in my home (with two small infants). Finally they rush through the installation as if it were a marathon and over cut some of the holes in my ceiling leaving additional space around the speakers. They put them unevenly across from each other in most rooms, dented most of the grills on the ceiling and left a mess of Sheetrock in every room (including on my kitchen countertops). The worse job I have seen to date and now are stuck paying a real company to fix there errors. I never spent time writing these reviews for the record but I wake up staring every morning at a speaker in my master bedroom place in the wrong spot and it reminds of the horrible experience I had.
