I am giving this place 5 stars solely because of Sophie, the woman who works the counter. She is the sweetest and friendliest person I have ever met. She remembers everyones name and spends a lot of time talking to you. I adore her. Also, the food ain't bad either. The food is really good and cheap. I love that it is within walking distance of my work. Their menu is full of wraps and soups. I had the veggie and humas wrap and it was really good. I can usually clean my plate of any remnants, but I had to take half the sandwich home to finish. It was that filling!! I highly recommend dropping in here for lunch if you work in the area or find yourself at that end of Cambridge St. There are many small sub shops along the street, but make sure you stop in here. read more

I'll gladly join the 5 star bandwagon here. Sophie is indeed one of the warmest women I've ever encountered, and her soup surprised me with it's hearty tastiness. It was an odd time of day when I wandered into her homey little establishment. I ordered a mega size bowl of broccoli-dill and braced myself for some kind of over-salted, cheese-like concoction. WRONG WAS I !!! The soup was pretty complex. No cream. Well- seasoned with fresh dill. Hand made with love, from scratch. She even makes the stock. After I finished slurping down my 20 ounce bowl, Sophie thanked me for coming in, gave me a take out menu, and told me to stop by anytime I was in the neighborhood. Hooray for Sophie and the Souper Roll Up Cafe! Sophie and her husband (?) are the nicest people you'll ever meet, and the food is made fast. Sandwiches are good (bread can be substituted for the tortilla wraps); I recommend the California. The half-sandwich, soup or fruit salad combo is a steal at around 5 bucks. The soup is really flavorful (carrot ginger is my favorite) and the fruit salad is gigantic and fresh. Pay Sophie a visit! read more

This spot is delish! I had the curry chicken soup and loved it. Very well priced, big portions, and everything's high quality. They let me try a bunch of different soups before making my decision... which actually made it harder to choose :) I'll be back here anytime I'm in town. read more

I first stopped by Souper Roll Up over 20 years ago when I worked in the neighborhood. I went nearly everyday to enjoy the fresh and healthy sandwiches, yummy soups and amazing friendly service. I no longer work in the neighborhood but have still tried to stop by over the years. Soun still knows my name and shines his friendly smile even if it's been over a year between visits. I had the chance to stop by last week and they still have the same, great, fresh food and the same neighborhood feel. So much has changed in 20 years but Soun and Souper Roll Up continue to be the perfect neighborhood place. Be sure to stop by someday for lunch. The half/half combos are the best lunch deal anywhere and the Thai Iced Tea is the perfect sweetness. It can get pretty busy around noon but they have a new website where you can order direct to save time (and help them avoid grubhub fees). With the Covid economy, now is the most important time to support these local gems. With luck, we will still be enjoying them for another 20 years! read more

Great portion size for sandwich and soup combo! Tasty home made soups (chicken noodle my favorite)

Awful. I ordered for two other people and myself. If a sandwich comes standard with onions, you MUST note it on the menu. Marinated Roasted Chicken Roll Up was practically inedible. Completely fell apart the moment I picked it up. After fishing out all the MANY onions, I saw very old, wilted, rusty lettuce. After picking those out, and because it was no longer a wrap, I tried to start eating it as a salad. Chicken was tough and flavorless, what remained of the lettuce was now wilted from all the dressing. Not even worth it... in the trash it went. Ordered 2 soups, got 1. Ordered balsamic dressing for one of the salads and got some kind of herb dressing. Tuna sandwich apparently had a ton of onions in it as well and was not liked at all. Soup was bland. It has the classic hole-in-the-wall atmosphere and serves up incredible homemade soup, fresh (yes, FRESH!) salads and interesting roll ups (I'm partial to the Chicken Tarragon Club, Tuna Cilantro and Marinated Chicken with Avocado roll ups. Wow this place has surpassed my expectations! I order one of there specials which they have mon-friday comes with fresh soup or fresh fruit salad! I paid $9 for a fresh wrap which was huge for half a wrap. The guy who works at the counter is pleasant and helpful. He told me I could try the soup and gave me samples. My favorite is the chicken lentil and cream of spinach I asked him how the soups were made and the ingredients and he told me without hesitation. I love the atmosphere and their was a asian man with glasses who I think is the owner he was pleasant as well. Fresh food great price excellent customer service. read more

Sophie and Soun are two of the sweetest souls I've ever met. They are sincere in their enthusiasm for their customers and always ask about my kids (whom they've met many times). They work hard, are honest, and their shop is a little gem. And the food? Delicious. Lots of ginger in the soups which knocks even the meanest winter cold on its butt. I'm not even a wrap guy - they always make my sandwiches with french bread without even asking. Please support them - you'll love it! read more

I love souper roll up! when i first moved here in january, my roomates and i all went in. the owner was so excited that we were new to the neighborhood and was very accomodating. we all were about to do a cheesy cheers/toast our glasses and sophie got so excited and ran into the kitchen and brought us out glasses for our drinks. another time my boyfriend and i walked in a little after five, the door was locked so we didnt realize that they werent closed. the husband - who i'm not sure of his name- had no problem making us our rollups, even though we said he didnt have to. he said he wanted to! i love this place and will continue to go for lunch early dinner etc read more

Their soup and sandwiches are amazing. I just got zucchini soup with carrots, basil, onions, celery, fresh pulped tomatoes! I also got a jasmine ice tea, fresh fruit cup, and a goat cheese sandwich to eat later for dinner. The people who work there are very nice and I feel so lucky they are right across from where I work! This place is right down the street from my work, I don't go often (I try to save money by bringing lunch), I go about once or twice a month but the owners (an awesome husband and wife team) still remember my name and that I don't like onions in my roll-ups. The prices are fairly cheap and I've seen people running tabs (you don't see that very often these days). The food is great. I've only had soup once or twice but I love the roll-ups. They are made to order but are always very quick. I was there yesterday and Sophie (and someone new) helped me but the husband (whose name I can't remember) still came out from the back to say hello. Can't say enough good things about this place! My boyfriend brought me here for some soup when I was sick with a cold and it was like coming home to my grandma's kitchen. They had so many soups and every one was delicious - I know because Mr. Soun offered us samples of all of them! We didn't even ask! They change them up all the time, but I had an amazing black bean soup and bought 2 more kinds to-go (tomato basil and veggie). Awesome spot, truly a community gem, will definitely be back for more soup! read more

Stopped in for the first time today. The curry chicken soup was delicious! The tuna-cilantro wrap was fine... probably what I deserve for getting a tuna wrap, they are always mostly alright at best. The space was small, but really calm and likely a good place to go if you need a quiet break from the rest of everyone. Most of all, I'm completely stuffed and fear for my work productivity. I've been going to this place off and on since it opened either 1997 or 1998 and felt I needed to yelp it, yelp it out loud. You will not find a fresher sandwich or more delicious soup. First off the owners are the only employees. They are both the nicest people you will ever encounter... Okay the food, my go to sandwich is the california roll up with chicken terragon. It was refered to back in the day as a DEREK SPECIAL... After I moved out of the area, I returned years later and when sophie yelled out my order of a Derek Special her husband came out and remembered it in detail. Amazing asset to the east cambridge neighborhood. I wish I never moved my business out of there, I love that friggin town.... Sorry I got nostalgic for a minute, the soups oh man the soups, my favorite is in season as I write this, The Gazpacho, order it, eat it and enjoy.... This place is really adorable. It is close to my workplace, so I stop for lunch here occasionally. The food is good (love the tuna with melted cheese) and the owner is so sweet. The place is small, but it is also cozy, which adds to it's charm. With that being said, I do wish there was more room for additional tables and chairs so more guests could sit down and enjoy lunch inside the cafe. read more

I live across the street and I stop in once every week or two for a roll up and coffee I have to say I'm surprised at how awesome the coffee is. I ordered it one morning out of desperation and now order it whenever I'm eating in. The food isn't always the most amazing - usually about 4 star quality - but it's cheap and totally hits the spot. After all it's just roll ups, not exactly super gourmet style fare here! Also as many people say, Sophie and Soun are such nice people. My main complaint is that many mornings they aren't open when I'm on my way to work - about 10 to 10:30 - despite saying they open at 9:30... this very morning I stopped by at 10:05 and they were still closed. read more

I loooove this place! It is perfect for what it is! The Cambodian couple that runs the place is adorable! They are always friendly and cheerful. Just entering the place and hearing this super cute woman yelling "helloooo" makes my day. They have super delicious soups and wraps (at least that is all I have ever tried) and my favorite is combining half a soup with half a wrap (I am pretty convinced that these are whole portions though;). The best soups so far were the Lemon Chicken Soup and the Chicken Barley Soup (sorry vegetarians!). My favorite wraps are the Marinated Chicken Avocado and the Greek Roll with Roasted Chicken, yum yum. This is true comfort food! It's cold and wet out, which is an apt description for what feels like 90 percent of the days from October to March in the Boston area. So soup is always craved! When you walk in it's warm and the smell is comforting. Then you have glance at the menu and the prices seem good, and then you walk up to the cashier notice the list of specials which normally includes at least three soups and a wrap. That's what you want to order from, the specials board. The soups rotate and so does the wrap. I have had to date the chicken noodle (where the noodles are perfectly chewy and the broth flavorful), the chicken barley (filling and just warms you up), and the chicken and vegetable curry (perfect balance and wonderfully not mushy vegetables). The salads are always fresh and large. When you get your food and notice the size that's when you truly realize the prices aren't just good they are amazing. I work close by so for me this is a winter must I go in order two quarts of soup and that's lunch for awhile, and its always perfect. It's noticeably family run and they are always so nice and friendly which makes me want soup even more. read more

I would rate this place as average as far as the soup and sandwiches go. I would also mention, there is NO SEATING available. There are about 3 teeny tiny tables wedged into very tiny and awkward corners, this is definitely a take out deli type place. The soup is good on a cold day, but only if that's because you just don't feel like cooking your own soup. It's good, but nothing to write home about, and certainly not worthy of 4.5-5 stars. All in all, my advice would be....don't go out of your way to get here, but if it is conveniently across the street from you, then sure....why not. read more
