Such a hidden gem with great quality food at a good price! We tried their burger special, cajun fries, and cheeseburger sub. The onion rings that came with the burger special had a thick, crispy batter. I'd take cajun fries over plain salted fries any day but even the salted fries were great. They had a really nice crispy texture. The burger and cheeseburger sub tasted similar-- one was the longer version of the other. The patty-to-bun ratio was great (the patty was nice and thick). The patty itself was moist but they also added some ketchup and mayo to bind everything together. I'll have to try their BBQ some time, since other Yelpers have said so many positive things. read more

I stopped by the other day to grab a couple of items - I absolutely loved their BBQ chicken dinner, buffalo chicken salad, onion rings, and French fries. The salad may sound plain, but it was very impressive coming from a lowkey salad snob. You get a couple of onion rings and thin slices of garlic bread atop a big portion of veggies and lettuce. And the buffalo chicken was moist and oh so flavorful. Big portions and fresh, delicious food for low prices. Lots of options on the menu too. Moved to Cambridge a few months ago. Have been looking for a good sub shop, with good portions and a value menu. This is without a doubt the best bang for your buck sub shop in the City of Cambridge. Best Steak and Cheese i've had in the area. I'll 100% be going back. This dude knows how to make food. Went with a large steak and cheese w/ small fry + a soda. Only ~$15. This is one of our favorite neighborhood takeout spots. Dave, the chef/owner, is so pleasant and friendly, and remembers our finicky family's custom orders :) The food is consistently good here. Our go-to is the BBQ chicken platter, but the other dishes we've rotated through - the tuna melt, cheeseburger, steak tips, fried fish - have also been quite satisfying. They put up a large new signboard a couple of years ago which makes this little place more visible. Covid measures are also in place - masking, plexiglassed counter, hand sanitizers at the entrance and counter, restrictions on the number of customers inside. We will keep coming back! read more

Love this place. Dave and Rob know their customers ..or they already treat each person like they are already your buddy. Def a gem placed outside of central Square and worth trying if you never had. Tip: bbq anything is good! Also try the chicken cutlet on a bulkie roll with everything including the peppercinis!! They throw a compliment small taste of fries and onion rings on every dish even if you didn't order it!! Generous!! read more

I came here for a quick lunch pick up. I order a large pastrami to go. The large pastrami come in a sub roll rather than a small in a hamburger size bun. Lettuce, tomato and onions are added with the meat! The pastrami was tasty. I think the sandwich would be better if the sub was a little more toasted. read more

I first have to say that it's not fair to other barbecue chicken how good their barbecue chicken is! This place is amazing. The owners are so amazing. Excellent customer service always greet you with a smile. Everything I've had here is delicious. But the barbecue is out of this world. The barbecue chicken dinner is spectacular. BBQ Chicken dinners are where it's at. Onion Rings and Fries are both good. The salad that comes with the dinners are simple, but surprisingly fresh and well-dressed. We've tried their subs - the eggplant parm seemed a little bland, and the steak & cheese was a'ight. The fried chicken dinner was a little dry and the pieces were tiny, but the fries and salad were good. The cajun chicken dinner - we threw it away... the whole thing, except the salad, The rice was unfortunate, separate and seemed like instant, which is understandable, given it's a deli, but we'll steer towards the bbq chicken dinners with fries & onion rings. Amazing sandwiches and BBQ. Enter my new favorite casual lunch spot in Cambridge. Can a Tuna Club Sandwich have the 'wow' factor? Yes, but not by trying to be fancy or different. All it has be be is good. Good salad, fresh veggies, perfectly toasted bread, perfectly crispy bacon, good assembly, made to order. As Michael Fassbender would say: Perfection. This amazing sandwich comes with a quarter pickle spear, a pickle slice, fries, onion rings, and wait for it... less than $10. I don't know if the fries were completely homemade, but they were perfect. Super fresh, perfectly crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned. Quite simply perfect french fries. The onion rings were really tasty too. For just $15 or so, you can get yourself a pretty legitimate plate of BBQ. The chicken was juicy and the ribs tender. The plate came with a choice of side, salad, toast, two legs, one thigh, and 3 large ribs. Not too shabby either... Service is extremely friendly and welcoming. You can tell they take pride in their food (as they should.) The one downside is that good things made to order sometimes take a little bit of time, so if you are in a rush call ahead to have your order ready for takeout. Simple. Good. Food. read more

Would give 6 stars if there was an option. Dave has many regulars here (which he usually knows by name) and for good reason. During peak hours you'll often see the mail-delivery lady, person who works down the street, etc. etc... and you know what they say of restaurants that has many loyal, repeat customers. If you don't know what to try you can ask him. He'll nicely guide you towards what's popular. Excellent service. Food doesn't disappoint. I always get the burger here. If you're in Central Square it's not a bad idea to take a 3 minute walk down River St to try this place out. Be cognizant of their hours though; they close quite early in the evening and aren't open on the weekends. Thanks Dave! read more

Perfect local sandwich spot, good food and really friendly management. Had a simple and tasty roast beef sandwich and it was exactly what I needed. Welcoming and comforting, places like these are more than just a place to grab a sandwich (though it's great for that, too)--I'd argue that for some, they can fill an existential void. Sometimes some bread, some meat, a side of chips, and a neighborly smile are just enough. If more of humankind lived near delis like this, I'm convinced we'd all live in peace. I love this restaurant! It's not very expensive, and the food is delicious! We're vegetarians, and my boyfriend says they have one of the best eggplant parm subs he's ever had. The burger special (veggie or beef or turkey or salmon burger, with salad AND fries AND onion rings for $9.99) is a great deal, and I love that they include bonus onion rings even when I only order a salad. Meet the Business Owner: Dave C.

Dave graduated from Northeast Regional Vocational with a degree in culinary arts. Afterwards he worked in various restaurants such as the Hilltop Steakhouse, Holiday Inn, and Hyatt Regency. He has been the owner of Cambridge Deli and Grill since 1986, and has enjoyed every one of his years of ownership.

Food just hits the right spots and is very flavorful, extremely well seasoned, and perfectly spiced. Interiors and their bar is very inviting. Noise levels during our stay were on the lower end. Service was excellent. What was refreshing was they didn't charge us any automatic gratuity even for our large group - but absolutely deserved a generous one! Hourly's interior is high ceilinged and airy and features the eclectic decor that characterizes eateries on the Square. The menu features a range of seafoods for which it is known - from raw bar staples to lobster. We started with a Paul Buisse Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley and a Hendrick's Extra Dry Gibson up (Finally! A Gibson!) The wine was crisp and dry and a perfect accompaniment to the oysters we ordered. Hourly usually has up to 10 oysters on offer from New England and the Chesapeake. We ordered 2 each of the Paine's Creek, East Beach Blonde, Island Creek, Buttercup, and four of the Mookie Blues. Our favorites were the Buttercups and Mookie Blues. Both are from Maine and are larger with a textured brine and crisp finish. The main course was the Roasted Monkfish Almondine served with a cauliflower puree, raisins, caulilini, brown butter, and capers. The filet was meaty, flavorful and roasted to perfection. We also had the Striped Bass which was served on the bone with snow peas, zucchini, squash, and fava beans. Our server was prompt, attentive, and informative and we could not have been more pleased with the service. One of the genuine joys of dining at Harvard Square is you meet other wonderful, interesting people. The table on one side had two astronomers from MIT while the other had four high school principals from Houston. The conversation was engaging and delightful. Hourly has some strong choices for dessert but it sits next door to Mike's Pastry, a Harvard Square tradition, so we opted to indulge our sweet tooth there. We were presented with the menu, which was fairly comprehensive, and a stern warning not to waste food...at risk of PUNISHMENT. This was not an issue as my party did not believe in food waste. We collectively ordered a number of non-sushi bar items (like hibachi) and sushi and sashimi. I thought the quality of the sushi was solid. I've been to AYCE places where they go especially heavy on the rice and light on the fish. This was not the case here, fortunately. I enjoyed all of the sushi bar items I ordered. The hibachi steak was also tasty. The venue is well-decorated, although it's not the quietest when it's busy. Value was decent if you come with an appetite: around $37 as of June 2026 for a weekday dinner. My only hesitation is with the service itself. They didn't have a huge number of people working at the sushi bar or a huge number of waiters, so some of the items took a little while to come out. I think I'd be better calibrated the second time around to order more strategically. We also sometimes had to flag down the wait staff to order more items. Don't expect them to come to you. Sushi Kingdom is a positive addition to the neighborhood. I would return.

Given its location, the restaurant was surprisingly busy when we visited on a Tuesday night. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a table at a time when we assumed students had already left for the summer (alas, we were wrong). After being seated, we were handed menus and given a very "generous" 30 minutes to look them over, though not by choice. Limited staffing combined with the dinner rush meant that no one came by our table for another half hour. My friend and I sympathized with the staff, but the delays definitely added up over the course of the meal. In fact, by the time we had placed and finished our first round, a waiter came by to ask whether we wanted a second order, only to immediately let us know that the kitchen was closing. As for the food, we mainly ordered sashimi (because why fill up on rice?), along with a few appetizers: hibachi steak, teriyaki steak, fried calamari, fried tofu and gyoza, as well as several hand rolls. With the exception of the steak and sashimi, everything was strictly fine. The fried calamari tasted good but had uneven breading, with some of the coating falling right off. The fried tofu and gyoza were standard; not bad, but not particularly memorable either. The salmon, however, was excellent and on par with Nijiya: buttery, fresh, and satisfying. The steak was also tender and juicy. For some reason, Sushi Kingdom prepares the two steak dishes differently. The teriyaki steak had better flavor, but it was noticeably more well done than the hibachi cubed steak. Unfortunately, everything else was incredibly mid. As others have noted, many of the rolls are absolutely drenched in mayo. The worst offender, and one I'd strongly avoid, was the Tuna Lover Roll. The roll itself was bland, and the minced tuna in the center had a warm, almost sour taste. Suffice it to say, we did not finish it. We came to Sushi Kingdom hoping it might be a better, or at least comparable, alternative to Nijiya, but considering both the food quality and the wait times, I'd much rather travel a bit farther for a better meal. That said, this may change. One of the waiters mentioned that they've been seeing a significant uptick in customers since opening, so perhaps things will improve once operations become more streamlined, or once the initial hype dies down. Until then, I'd probably steer clear unless you're specifically a sashimi or steak fiend. In that case, by all means, eat away.
