I cannot praise South Bay Nannies enough. I firstly met Nigel during a very informative talk at my Mommy and Me classes and it was really reassuring to hear about their objective to match people with their ideal nanny for either short term or long term, how thoroughly they vet their applicants, how hard they work to get to know the families and how much he cares about the business. I have used their service several times in the last two years, on occasions undercutting 24 hours notice and Susan always rose to the occasion. Just yesterday, when I messaged her and she found someone within minutes to help us out today, I was joking that she was like the James Bond Backup Base, always ready to solve a problem ;). Parents. Don't waste your money. This company charges you to find you a nanny. But do you know how the do that? By posting adds on nanny sites that are available to anyone. *cogh*care.com*cough* You can easily post your own add for much less money. Also, when they post these add they break the websites rules by asking for nannies to email the resume to your agents email instead of using the websites message system (care.com tells nannies to never send our resume through email since this is how scammers correspond). So shady. They ask for for a picture with the resume. News flash, that's ILLEGAL (how a person looks can not be used as a basis for hiring). Why don't you just post your own ad on care.com and save yourself the money you would have paid this agency. read more

I contacted Nigel two years ago looking to set myself up with work as a nanny prior to moving to LA. I was extremely nervous about getting work right away after relocating, and I reached out to half a dozen agencies around LA to get work fast! None of them, however, provided the caliber of jobs or the level of professionalism that I received from Nigel. We set up a time to meet merely days after I landed on the west coast and he had me interviewing as soon as he vetted me. Nigel not only introduced me to an amazing family, but he also encouraged me to take on part time work as a personal assistant, so that I could still work full time but be with school-aged children, which as a former teacher, was my specialty. Unfortunately, sometimes people aren't what they seem, and the family was only a perfect match on the surface. Over time they did not treat me as kindly or fairly as I expected. Why a 5-star review for South Bay Nannies if I didn't make a match with this family, you ask? I reached out to Nigel about my concerns and he counseled me through everything. I felt trusted and valued by Nigel and he was able to transition me to a family that really WAS everything I could hope for. After a couple of years as a professional nanny and personal assistant, it is time for me to move on to a full-time position in a corporate setting, but I wholeheartedly credit Nigel for THAT, as well! In addition to gaining tons of experience and having so much fun at work, I am now moving into a field that I wouldn't have sought out for myself, and which has now become my new career! Let's talk about the other side of the spectrum. From KC, I was moving to LA to be with my family. And for the record, I understand no job is guaranteed. With that said, let me tell my story. I interviewed with Nigel over the phone twice before I met with him in person. After 3 great interviews, Nigel and I discussed a salary and he completely led me to believe I could lock a job in the city my family lives. I was told to be waiting to hear from him. I never did. I am not upset about not "getting the job", but I repeatedly called his agency and personal phone number he had given me. I simply asked him to just let me know if I was the right fit, so I could plan my near future accordingly. I never heard a word. I emailed Nigel saying, it is completely ok if I'm not the right fit, I just need to know so I can either move back to KC or stay in LA. My point is, this particular agency is completely unprofessional. Nigel screwed my life plans without thinking anything of it. Again, I am not bitter about not fitting the criteria (I am an employee of college nannies and tutors) but the rudeness and carelessness of this agency towards its potential employees. I currently work for the blue valley school district. I coach 60+ kids swim and dive during the summers, then fly to LA to help run a youth summer educational camp in Manhattan beach. I am not a bad guy and it is not my intent to talk badly, but it is my intent to give an honest review. After being TOLD "we will get you started", it's like Nigel fell off the face of the earth. I prematurely opted out of my lease in KC, and it screwed me. I will be SHOCKED if Nigel responds to this post because he's dodged every other form of communication. And if he does respond trying to defend this post, it only goes to show that he is only communicating if it is in HIS best interest ($$$), not the families seeking quality childcare. read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Nigel and South Bay Nannies on two different occasions. The first time was when I had just moved to Los Angeles from Utah and needed a part-time job to keep me afloat while I studied for graduate school. Nigel was able to find me one of the most wonderful families to work for and I have nothing but fond memories of my year and a half spent there. The second time was several years later when I had left a corporate job but hadn't secured a position at another company yet. I decided that it might be best to reconsider working as a nanny to keep me afloat again while looking for another job. I was completely transparent with Nigel in this situation and told him that I needed something that was temporary - could be 4 - 8 weeks or it could be 6 months. With that criteria, Nigel was again able to place me with another one of the most wonderful families I could have ever possibly met. Parents - just to let you know, Nigel has a very thorough vetting process that includes interviews and background checks. Never once did I get the feeling throughout any of this that he didn't care - he definitely understands the needs of families in the South Bay area (he's a parent himself) and he wants to make sure parents are comfortable with whoever it is they choose to bring into their home. Nannies - FYI, Nigel meets with you to ensure you are a worthy candidate and then, based off your schedule/needs, is able to pair you with families he has at the time. After his interviews, you're then set up with interviews with other families and it's up to the families to decide. I've been to 3 different interviews with families and only two of them ever called me back. Despite feeling like I did very well in one of those interviews, they decided not to hire me, and sometimes that happens and that's okay. Just understand that Nigel can only set up interviews if the parents are willing. Things have to work for both parties - Nigel's the conduit, not the person hiring you. Anyway, great guy and great company. I will most definitely keep him in mind for my own kids one day! read more

Yikes. I really wanted to give this business more stars but that wouldn't be an honest accounting of what i experienced working with Nigel and his South Bay nanny service . During our initial dialogue regarding my needs for a nanny , i was told to complete the forms and send over $200..to get started. I was informed that several nannies would be sent out to my home for interviews. But that was hardly the case. Only 2 nannies were sent to me in what was a 2-3 month period. The first nanny i interviewed was truly lovely and but after the interview she declined the position because i requested that she wear a mask while caring for my 11 month old daughter. Mind you , we're in the heart of a Pandemic! It seems like i waited another month for a response from Nigel on any other prospective nannies . I had to keep calling him to follow up. When i expressed my frustration he stated that" part time nannies were hard to find" and that i needed to promise to extend the hours beyond 20 hours a week for a nanny to work as time progressed. Having a nanny is not cheap but it was needed. I was willing to do it. He sent one more woman to my home. She only wanted to work 10 hours a week .That was a great start up for me and my daughter so i agreed . It was a little weird that Nigel told me something different but I was happy to have her . After the week (3 days 3 hours/day) was up she quit. No notice to me nothing . She told Nigel she didn't know how to talk to me about my child. :? I thought she was so experienced according to Nigel and her profile that was sent to me she was one of the best! But she ended up being sort of weird and I really questioned why an experienced nanny felt couldn't she talk to me about my daughter. I assumed it was because she may have been intimidated by me due to my race. Who knows right. It was weird to hear that . Nigel seemed concerned about that as well and assured me he would find someone else but never did . Im not even sure his nannies are culturally competent. I can't tell. I called him and i emailed him to follow up again for a possible interview with a nanny but there was no response. I then asked for my money back bc he told me initially it was refundable. He was not able to secure me a nanny or produce any prospects. He never responded to that email either. He's refusing apparently to return my $200 for the search and refusing to return my call what kind of business is this? . I'm really disappointed and maybe after he sees my review he will now respond to me because I'm putting this review wherever I can place it. read more

South Bay Nannies helped us find a full time nanny about two years ago. She has been caring for our oldest (~2 years) and now our youngest (8 months) ever since. As my wife and I both work full time, we are occasionally in need of extra help (beyond our regular nanny's hours). Nigel and Susan have done a really amazing job helping us out. While they're not a "sitter service", they are able to help out in a pinch. We've had about 6 backup days filled by SBN so far (which I have to assume is much more than normal). Every nanny has been great with the kids. They know how to handle diaper changes, feedings, and the kids really seem to love playing with them. We're reluctant to look elsewhere for a backup "babysitter" as we feel they'd be much less qualified. Every time we need another day/night covered, we ask for the same nanny and it turns out they're now employed full time with another family! This is because SBN generally only does full time nanny placement. If that's what you're looking for I'd highly recommend using them. They thoroughly vet all the nannies that they recommend..and for us that was a must knowing our children were with someone we could trust. read more

We spoke with Nigel in the Spring and he started a search for us. but we called it off as our nanny returned to us unexpectedly. Nigel was very accommodating to our "halt, please" notification. When our nanny gave notice in late November, Nigel jumped back on the case. We don't really care HOW he found us our new nanny (care.com, craigslist, newspaper...), we are just delighted with the options he gave us and the person we ultimately selected.
