I've taken a handful of classes here and so far so good! The instructors are friendly and not pushy, which I love. Other pilates studios and instructors can really push you (in a bad way) but at South Bay Pilates, they encourage you to listen to your body and they offer modifications if needed. I've always found free parking on the street right in front without any issue. Class size is small (I think 8 reformers?) albeit a little bit cramped in the group class space of the studio. My BIGGEST gripe is the lack of air conditioning. Or, if they do have A/C, it's barely on! They do have a ceiling fan but I really wish they cranked up the AC, we're sweating over here and I need the air flow! read more

I took a reformer class here last week with Brooke and it was a great experience. She was very kind and a great instructor. Our class was intimate too which was also awesome. The studio has a variety of the classic Pilates machines and props; such as the cadillac reformer, tower, and original reformer. I love that they focus on the classic Pilates principles and having good form unlike other studios which promote an adapted "version of Pilates". This was super refreshing ! For the past year I have been dealing with nerve pain in my back, which sidelined me from physical activities. I've been struggling to find a new workout-routine that would not cause flare ups. I discovered reformer pilates. It took a minute to get there because you're not supposed to try any work-out or exercise, while in acute pain, and pills can only get you so far. Ever since I started, about 4 months ago, I have been pain free. Something I wasn't able to say for too long. The work-out is very gentle on the back, while allowing your body to build muscles back up. Words cannot describe how wonderful it is to be able to exercise again, without debilitating pain the next day. I am sure other instructors are wonderful as well, but I LOVE taking Josh' class. He has a calm in his voice, while getting you to push yourself just a little more. One more breath! I've heard other class-takers say it, but it's like going to therapy. You breath, move around a bit and all of a sudden, everything is better! Huge huge fan! read more

I found this studio via Classpass and ended up purchasing an introductory class pack directly on their website. I really like going to Alexis' reformer classes. Her routines are very well rounded, and I always walk out feeling like I got a great workout. She's also a very thoughtful instructor. Because I'm pregnant, she would always have a wedge out ready for me on one of the reformers if she sees my name on the roster. I also tried out her Monday night tower class for the first time last week. During class, I didn't really feel like I worked out that hard but oh my gosh, I was shocked when I couldn't walk for three days (and I go to Pilates 2-4 times a week)! Cancer recurrence put me in bed for a lot of the last 9 months. Once treatment was done, joined ClassPass to get my body moving again and discovered this studio. Wow, what a gem of a studio. First of all, the environment. I'm a sucker for exposed brick walls, dark wooden beams, and Spanish-style rounded doorways. And then the workout, of course. Small classes with lovely instructors who don't rush and focuses on your form. I've been exploring Pilates studios all over the southbay. Quite a few are those high intensity cardio Pilates with loud pulsating music with instructors on mics where things move fast and the goal seems to be to raise your heart rate and burn burn burn. If that's your jam, good for you! But they make me dizzy and want to barf after. With Studio Pilates, there is little to no music and the instructors don't need mics. The workouts may seem gentle, but TRUST you will feel every fiber of muscle the next day. Love this place. read more

I love this pilates studio. They have mat, reformer, and Pilates ball classes. The prices are very comparable to other studios and will give you a price break if you buy in a series. But, I think the most important thing about the studio is the instructors. I do both classes and private sessions at Studio Pilates. They have teachers with all different teaching styles and personalities... who will push you when you need to be pushed and back off. They're all about creating a better you. The studio is clean and zen-ish, with nice music in the background. The Studio is great too.... very socially aware. In October, all proceeds during a busy Saturday went towards Breast Cancer research. They continually support the community. A very positive environment!! read more

Studio Pilates is owned by Katelyn Cox and Mette Hansen. Both are top rated, incredible instructors with years of experience and knowledge of Pilates. I have been fortunate to have privately trained with both owners. They each bring a different style, approach and philosophy to the profession. They tailor the sessions to the particular goals of the client, while being sensitive to those with injuries and health issues. Both Mette and Katelyn are fun, energetic, outgoing and compassionate, making the hour session fly by. Their staff is always friendly, welcoming and upbeat. The studio atmosphere is peaceful and serene. The interior of the building is light-filled, spacious and warm. The fully brick interior and open beamed ceiling gives the feeling of a NY walk-up. Sooz makes me feel comfortable and confident, and she's really fun, so the time flies by. The studio is really nice and I love going there. I am a big fan of this lovely Pilates studio! I have been taking weekly private sessions with one of the founders/owners of this studio, Katelyn Cox, for almost a year. As a dance instructor, I deeply appreciate the way Katelyn is able tune into the "issues" and "limitations" of my body and work with them. I started with having a lot of weakness and pain in my formerly broken shoulder area, which now has improved drastically. I also keep working on my hip and lower back areas which are often very sore from teaching and wearing heals. I just love to see all these injured areas get stronger and more flexible as I keep doing my Pilates. What a relief! It takes a gifted teacher/coach to be able to tailor a unique approach to every individual client. Katelyn is one of these great individuals who has a lot of knowledge and compassion, which make her a perfect match for ME. Thanks to her, I am now addicted to Pilates and even started designing a special curriculum for my own students, combining Pilates conditioning and tango. I don't know why I never tried this pilates studio before (kicking myself)! Today was my very first time here and I had a private session with Katelyn, who was awesome. After my favorite teachers left another studio I was at, I wanted to search for another place and this IS IT! The studio space is spacious yet super warm and zen with brick walls and wooden beams (I was admiring the decor and interior while laying on my reformer). The minute I walked in, all the teachers there were so warm and inviting as though I was already a regular member there. I know today was my first time there but I have taken pilates at many studios and this is by far the BEST experience (from customer service to attention to detail during my session) I have ever encountered. Not to mention free parking and it being in charming downtown El Segundo, which is not overrun with actress wannabes and model types (hello Venice and Santa Monica). This has been one of the best things I have done to keep myself fit for my work. The best thing about the studio- it's quiet, private and there are NO wall-to-wall mirrors!! Anyone who is trying to lose baby weight, postpartum, might agree with me that doing crunches in front of a wall to wall mirror is not flattering and definitely not something that you want to pay for. You can get this kind of abuse in the comfort of your own home! Personally, I can't stand gyms with mirrors all over the place or gyms where everyone is overly dressed and coiffed. Studio Pilates has a very quiet and serene environment where you can really focus on your workout and get the most for your money. All the instructors are amazing- though I am partial to Katelyn and Mette. Prices compare with other studios, but you get more for your money here; a full workout with no loud music, no phones, natural light and a zen-like interior.
