First visit to this establishment and we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The sun was beaming but it was a really nice day so we sat outdoors. I had the Aqua bowl. It is an acai bowl with blueberries, strawberries, coconut and pepitas. It was so delicious and refreshing! They also serve other acai bowls, coffees, teas, smoothies foods and juices. I'm only in VA for a few more days but I am considering going back to South Block if I am in need of coffee or tea. I came here for breakfast and had the warrior bowl. The fruit was super fresh and the plating of the bowl was stunning! The granola was crunchy and delicious and the yogurt in the bottom of the bowl was creamy and fruity. So far, I've tried the California Bowl & Warrior Bowl. I enjoyed the California Bowl, but I didn't love it. I think it's because of the Almond Milk, I usually love Almond Milk but I didn't like the taste of it mixed in the Acai. I got the Warrior Bowl with the Pineapple Juice substituted with Guava Juice which I LOVED! The fruit toppings are so fresh & plentiful. The granola is Michelle's Granola which is local, I like it but I'm more of a plain granola gal so I would have liked it more if it didn't have nuts (completely my own preference). I usually add Raw Honey & Chia Seeds, which are free & you can put as much or as little as you want! They have plenty of other options for toppings to choose from. They also sell juices, sandwiches, hot & cold beverages, side items, pastries, & healthy snacks! I love this new place & I'm so glad it's right across the street from one of my jobs! My standard order is always either the Green Caveman smoothie with granola or the Caveman bowl. I got to try the Warrior bowl today and I understand why it's a staple - berrylicious. There are many juice bars around but what sets South Block apart is that they use whole organic foods and ingredients to make juices, smoothies etc. I don't have to worry about sugar and sugar substitutes masquerading as healthy and nutritious. Plus point is that it is made of high quality Stumptown coffee. On a side note, their self serve coffee/condiment bar far surpasses your typical Starbucks. But I don't come to South Block in the mornings to get hit on, especially by the man who appears to be your floor manager. I go to South Block fairly regularly to get a toast and a coffee, so the staff there know who I am. I came in this morning and was made to feel objectified and uncomfortable by the cashier, who was also training a new employee while I was there. He ogled me, told me how pretty I was, and asked where I was going that day--if I was going to work or if I was going out. I left feeling really gross and upset. So it has been a long time since I have been able to get to South Block. So this was a work thing, on Fridays our team would meet early in the office to sync and go through the weeks hurdles etc etc. We all took turn getting breakfast for each other, South Block became our thing it was what we could look forward to regardless of the other work stuff. Then enter said pandemic and office shuts down....but just go and order it anyways....not that simple I live 45 min from them and there are none near me. So anyways I had to head back up near my office for something the other day had the fam in the car and I said....heck yeah dad is calling breakfast. I had to go with my Go to Golden bowl....my wife tried it and said okay I get it it has an Indian food flair for your breakfast.... I had never thought of it like that but she's not wrong. Wife - mermaid bowl, I have had this one before and I highly recommend, she was surprised and was like yeah this is me. Son - 7yrs old Cave man bowl, and he utterly demolished it he said he really liked it, but would try the mermaid bowl next time. We also got 2 toasts one was a loaded avocado the other was a PBJ, now these served as snacking later on while out and about. This provided a much needed comfort that I didn't know I was missing. Why the loss of a star? They need to work on ordering systems and delivery. Because of the timing and situation, I did it through Uber eats it took them 30 mins beyond the initial estimation to complete because they were so backed up. I feel so fortunate for living walking distance from South Block. I always order the Warrior Bowl, sometimes two because I'm so addicted to it. They give you a pretty big portion so it fills me up for a few hours. And it's so healthy! Everything there is healthy, I love it! Kale yeah! I would love to try something else on their menu but every time I'm there, I'm craving for that fresh, cold Warrior Bowl. It's that good. I absolutely love this place (I am the duchess according to Yelp!) for its concept of fresh and raw foods. Each smoothie has been consistently fresh and flavorful. The location has great vibes, friendly smiles, and customer service too. It is also very clean and well maintained. My only complaint is how sloooow the service takes and with each visit it gets a little longer and longer. Today I waited about 20minutes for a smoothie from order to delivery. While I know it takes time to hand craft each smoothie from scratch this appears to be a shortage of staff issue because I am totally okay with a 10 minute wait for freshness, but 20 is a bit far fetched. I will continue to patronage this small business because I have a fond appreciation for all small businesses and would much rather cater to them. I've heard great things about South Block for years and honestly I was so excited to try the place. I was on my way to a 10am appointment and ordered my bowl through their app 10 minutes before arriving to my appointment. I parked my car and walked over to the location. It was first time here so I walked in up front and waited as the staff in the back was scrambling to get orders done. Once finally helped I had told the woman that I had ordered on the app about 10 minutes ago and asked her where I should wait for app orders. She found my order, to which she had to correct me that I had only ordered 6 minutes ago... not 10 and told me it would be placed in the glass window. At that point I was like ok... I dont want to argue with her about 6 vs. 10 minutes so I decided to wait. At 10:05 (knowing I was going to be a few minutes late to my appointment) I asked if it would be coming up soon and was told they are working on it, so I stepped back and waited. At 10:15 I asked again knowing it had be 21 minutes (15 + 6... not 10 lol) and was told they are working on it again to which I had to tell the person behind the desk I was late to a 10am appointment so she walked over to see who from the bowl area was working on my ticket and let them know I was in a rush. At 10:21 my bowl finally arrived... 27 minutes later.. and I myself was 25 minutes late (once I walked to my appointment) which I had to apology extremely for. I'm not sure if I would've been more appreciative had the woman/women behind the counter told me they were swamped, allowed me to cancel my order, possibly move my order up even though I know its not the best but with the amount of rushing I was doing it was hard. I guess its my own fault too, its a Saturday AM so I should expect them to be busy but 27 minute wait for a frozen bowl is hard to wait for... I'd wait that amount of time for an entree at a restaurant, but unfortunately not a bowl. Once I did get to my appointment I felt guilty even opening it up to eat since I had just pushed someones schedule behind from my lack of ordering early enough so it was hard to even enjoy my bowl however I will say quality and taste of the bowl was great!
