Today was the last day we could order birthday cake smoothies in honor of South Block's 15th birthday, so of course I had to stop in and get one! And because one is never enough, I bought two--one to enjoy today and one to freeze for tomorrow. South Block always has such a casual but vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. The smoothies are always delicious, and my favorite bowl is the Peanut Butter Blast with the Nutella topping. The service is consistently great, the food is delicious, and I love having healthy options that make you feel good. But one of my favorite things about South Block is the positive, community-minded energy. Amir and the entire South Block team are all about community, having fun, and making people feel welcome. I had a sudden craving for Orange Fanta last Saturday afternoon. For health reasons, I told myself a cold and refreshing sweet drink would do. After parking at a garage in Pike & Rose, we stopped by South Block to quench my thirst. I have a South Block in my neighborhood and find it overpriced, but I really did need to go. STRAWBERRY MINI - 6.49 I didn't need a whole lot, so I went with the 12 oz. kid size smoothie. This contains guava juice, strawberry, and bananas, which is much less complex than the regular sized 16 oz. adult smoothies. Overall, pretty refreshing and enjoyable. It's not Orange Fanta, but it did the job. Spacious interior but not a whole lot of seating. Definitely more of a grab-and-go while walking around Pike & Rose. read more

I love a good acai spot, and this place does acai bowls exceptionally well! I've been numerous times and have never been disappointed. I always opt for an acai bowl, either a regular or mini. Honestly, a mini size is enough for one person. I'll usually get their standard bowl with strawberry, bananas, and their house-made granola as toppings. I'll then add honey (which is free!!) and sometimes nutella if I'm feeling good about myself. The acai base tastes great and is smooth, which I enjoy compared to some places that'll freeze their acai bases to be harder, texturally. Then the toppings always hit the spot. The fruit tastes great and then honey and nutella are great complements. Their menu is extensive and has something for everyone. I appreciate how customizable their offerings are. Pricing is reasonable given the amount that you get. I'll pay a little over $10 for a mini bowl and am always somewhat full. The staff are really nice and the food comes out quick. The interior is very casual, with several bar seats and small tables that can fit 4 people max. There's also some outdoor seating at Pike & Rose that anyone can use. Being in Pike & Rose, there's several parking garages that are free for the first two hours. There's also street parking but good luck grabbing any of those spots. I've been to many locations around the DMV and this was my first time at this location. I live across the street so I was glad that this chain was available. I liked that there were self order kiosks available to order, making it quick. Little did I know, it wasn't going to be quick. I came with my significant other on a weekday at 6 PM. There was no one in there other than a family. We waited over 25 minutes for our bowls. My fiancé got his bowl and mine wasn't part of the order when the order name was called. l probably wouldn't have gotten it, if I didn't ask about it. Once I asked, one of the employees asked what I ordered and made my bowl once I clarified. To be very clear, I have only tried their cold pressed juices and this review is for those juices. I really appreciate they have these premade in a refrigerated case. It's also very convenient to be able to walk up to the order kiosk, pay for these premade juices and walk out without having to wait because it was crowded! Today was opening day for the new South Block in Pike & Rose. Ordering through the app was a breeze and my bowl was prepared a lot faster than the 20 minute time originally posted. This was my first time trying anything from South Block since they hadn't been in Maryland until this location. I thought the açaí tasted good and the berries were fresh.
