I've been to this location several times, but my latest experience was a little out of the ordinary. I went around noon, and a line started forming behind. There was only one worker at the front, so she went back and forth between taking and making orders. While she was making one bowl, I noticed a cockroach crawl along the cashier side. I was pretty alarmed by this, but the roach came from a different corner where the fruit they use was ...but still lol...not something I love seeing. Eventually, another worker came out and helped make the orders. I waited about 15 minutes for my bowl. It wasn't a big deal, but it was definitely longer than I have ever had to wait. The group in front of me ordered 2 bowls and theirs came out after mine which was a little weird. There was also another customer who came to pick up an online order and her order didn't get started until after mine was done, so I don't know if online ordering actually speeds the process up. read more

It's playa bowls lol. If you like paying $14 for an açai bowl, this is the place for you. I'm joking, of course. The price is what it's always been açai bowls, or these type of establishment in general have never been super cheap, but the quality has always been amazing so I think it's worth it. I actually prefer going there for smoothies, and they make it really easy for you to customize if you want. Service is always great and I've never had to wait more than five or 10 minutes for my order even when they're slammed. The atmosphere is always my favorite part of this. I've been to Playa Bowls twice now gor breakfast and stuck with the acai base on both occasions. I preferred the nutella bowl over the pura vida. The pura vida came with an acai base topped with granola, strawberries, blueberries and honey. I found half my bowl was drenched in honey, which made that side way too sweet for my liking. The nutella bowl also came with an acai base, but was topped with granola, bananas, strawberries, coconut flakes, and Nutella. I like how the Nutella was drizzled and spread all over the bowl. The coconut flakes added an additional crunch. Fruit toppings for both bowls were fresh. They both also came with just the right amount of granola. They explained to me that each bowl is built on one of two basis, one is green and a little less sweet, and the other is purple and taste a little fruitier. Then, there are hundreds of toppings and combinations to choose from. Thanks Abigail, after reading your review, I went for the Nutella and coconut drizzle on my bowl. It also had strawberries, granola, and bananas. The base reminds me of a more icy frozen yogurt. But, they are quick to explain that these bowls do not have any milk in their base. It was delicious, but at the price of $12.00 a bowl, you have to decide is it worth it? As a healthy alternative, I would make an exception every once in a while. Tried Playa Bowls for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! I got the electric mermaid with pitaya base, topped with mango, kiwi, pineapple, granola, and coconut flakes. I had no idea what the size the bowl would look like (ordered pick up online), so I decided to add extra toppings in case the bowl was too small. My bowl with extra topping was the perfect portion, and came out to be around $15. Overall I thought the bowl was very tasty! The fruits were fresh and the bowl wasn't overly sweet. I added chia seeds as an extra topping and it added a nice crunch. I actually really liked the coconut flakes too, tasted better than the kind I've had before. Overall positive experience and would try again. However, the high price point is what would deter me from getting it on a regular basis. The menu is HUGE so took me a minute to decide, luckily the line was long so I had plenty of time to think it over :P I was very happy with my pick, the ingredients are fresh and the flavors blended well together. I devoured my bowl :) Staff were slammed, my only suggestion would be for staff to bag takeout for the customers. I had ordered my bowl to go, but when my bowl came out there was no lid and bag. I had to grabbed staff's attention to request a lid and bag, it was hectic and I hated standing at the counter trying to flag someone down :( Overall, my experience was positive and I would return back to Playa Bowls. Delicious bowls but oh so slow. The employees are lovely and working nonstop, so it's not like you can get mad at them, but it took them 30 minutes to make one bowl for an order ahead order. I was about 10 minutes away when I ordered, so I sat and waited in the place. One order trickled out at a time, minutes apart. Just no idea how this approach is sustainable for them. Not only do they offer more bowl bases than I've seen elsewhere (açai, coconut, green, banana, chia, and oatmeal), they let you do half & half. Yep, you heard me right. Anyway their menu is extensive with tons of really well thought out and creative topping and base pairings. (Honestly an overwhelming number of options so you may wanna check out the menu online ahead of time if you're like me.) We opted for some winter seasonal options because who doesn't wanna celebrate the holidays as early as possible? Enter the gingerbread smoothie: banana, vanilla protein, gingerbread spice, cashew milk, and pumpkin granola BLENDED IN. Still drooling. $7 Our other pick was the North Pole Bowl: açaí base, topped with banana, raspberries, granola, Nutella, and crushed peppermint. They truly outdid themselves with this one. I could order it all year long. We did half and half acai and coconut since I really wanted to try the coconut base but I wouldn't recommend and might steer clear from the coconut going forward-- it has a very weak flavor that is dominated by toppings. Bowl was $12 Bowls are a little on the pricey side but honestly pretty comparable to what I've seen elsewhere in the area. However, I went to pick up an order two days ago around 1 pm, and in the midst of a pandemic, the teenage employee who was running the food was not wearing gloves or a mask, then she let a group of about 5-6 of her friends into the shop - none of them wearing a mask. On a separate occasion, I went to Playa Bowls to get a cold brew coffee and the employee that took my order didn't know they had cold brew...the tap is next to the register... The food at PB is always great, but the owner needs to take more responsibility, or employ someone who isn't a teenager at the local high school to run the store if they're not going to be there. 5 stars for the food, 2 stars for the service. read more

Every surface is dirty, all the containers have spill stains, there are crumbs everywhere, the screen to select tip & sign after paying with a cc is smudged, the bathroom resembles a gas station's. The only downside was it was a huge serving, too much to finish, and too expensive. Spent $24 on the acai bowl and a smoothie.
