We were in the area running errands and hunger started calling. There was no debate, we were coming here and it was very well worth it. It's pretty cozy in there, has indoor and outdoor seating. They don't take reservations so it's important to get on the waitlist. We were right on time bc by the time we walked out, the wait was an hour if not more. We both had the morning meditation. It was very refreshing, I love a ginger turmeric blend. Then we snagged items off the summer special menu. The chipotle steak and queso hash, banana brittle French toast, and million $ bacon. Absolutely loved the flavor combination in the French toast--the almond butter crème anglaise and caramelized bananas were the perfect bite of sweet topped with sea salt. I was greedy and added pieces of bacon to each bite. The hash was very good too! The queso was a little more runny than I would've liked but the flavor was there and it was delicious every dip. I just wrote a review on spilled iced coffee, and when I think of infamous spilled drink, I think of the downtown Rockville First Watch. I visited this location 3 times, 2 while I lived in Wheaton and one not long after moving away from Montgomery County. Feb. 2019 I used my birthday deal, pretty uneventful good food. Oct. 2020 there was another deal, again uneventful. My 3rd visit was the noteworthy one in March 2021. I recruited a friend to help use my birthday deal expiring fairly soon (as it's a BOGO deal), who lives in Montgomery County and doesn't like driving far. So, I schlepped from my home in western Anne Arundel County over to Rockville as God forbid he would schlep to Watch First in Laurel in PG County (my closest location), Columbia, or anywhere close to me. Food was good per normal. Server was nice and efficient. However, as a polite word in baseball, she made an error. She spilled the cranberry juice all over my friend. I was spared from her error sitting on the opposite side of the booth. At first, she said we can take the cranberry juice off the bill. We said that was weak. Manager came over and was nice saying how about we comp this meal for you. We said that's a lot better. However, I added that my birthday deal will be useless. The manager said he would just take off my meal too, and I could use the birthday deal again. I don't think I ended up using the birthday deal ultimately that year as it was close to expiration. First Watch was a brief walk from the hotel at which I was staying for several days. I came here for breakfast the first morning of my stay, and I enjoyed it so much I never felt the need to go anywhere else for breakfast. Between their regular menu and their seasonal specials menu, there was enough variety that I could have something different every morning, with choices ranging from traditional to very interesting. We never had a bad meal there. Service was a bit inconsistent from time to time. At least once, our meals took longer than expected to arrive, and I believe the restaurant was not adequately staffed for a busier than expected morning. The most "interesting" inconsistency was with hot tea, which we ordered every morning. Some servers brought us a plate with a large selection of teas, some servers asked us our preference and brought us just those. One server actually poured the hot water for us (which I was advised is actually a no-no when it comes to serving tea). None of these inconsistencies bothered me too much. Recently tried first watch for the first time and have been back at least 4 times since then. I love to try items from their seasonal menu and have also enjoyed the classics as well I always get a fresh juice with my meal and have never left unsatisfied. My favorites so far are the waffle and the biscuits with turkey sausage gravy. It is a popular location so you may have to wait a while to be seated. We came in a Sunday afternoon and waited 45 minutes for a table. Luckily there are a lot of other establishments in the area to check out while you wait. Had a delicious breakfast at our local first watch restaurant. Service was quick and efficient and the portions were plentiful. The ambiance is a bit neighborhood restaurant and a bit diner style. We ordered the market hash (added turkey sausage) and the seasonal bacon, egg and cheese sandwich to share. Both dishes had sizeable portions and we walked out in a food coma. The floors were so greasy and filthy that it was like walking on ice. I was not wearing non-slip restaurant shoes, but if you walk on a floor that is cleaned occasionally with soap it does not matter. There were gooey bits of old food that stuck to my shoe. They took us to a booth in the corner where an ancient brown wad of paper napkins was propping up the table, and there was more debris on the floor. You could feel the difference in traction from the front where the cleaning was slightly more thorough. There was also water on the floors and no wet floor signs. The booth was sticky and I was so disgusted that I left. The server and host were very friendly but the cleaning here is some of the worst I've ever seen. This summer, I am obsessed with new fruity and fun drinks. First Watch has a lot to choose from. First, I tried their Watermelon wake up drink. It was good, but really sour. I wanted to try and tame the sour down, by adding some extra pineapple juice. But, our waiter wasn't a fan of that idea. So, I traded it in for a purple haze that has Lemon, cane sugar, butterfly pea flower tea and a hint of lavender. My drink had the most beautiful purple color. It was delicious and thirst quenching. My friend ordered the morning meditation drink. It had orange, lemon, turmeric, organic ginger, agave nectar and beet juice. She loved it and it looked really tasty. It looked like a sunrise. My friend ordered the BLTE. That included the classic BLT plus two over-hard cage-free eggs, Monterey Jack cheese and mayo on their artisan whole grain bread. She got a side of home fried potatoes. She really liked her sandwich and sides. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. It had two poached cage-free eggs atop toasted ciabatta roll with Alaskan smoked salmon, red onion and tomato and it was topped with hollandaise sauce. I ordered a side of fruit to go along with my dish. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the hollandaise was tasty, but the smoked salmon was walking the line between being old and being spoiled. I just took the salmon off the dish and ate the rest. That was a real shame because you are paying extra for the smoked salmon. I mentioned this to our waiter, but he didn't do anything about it. I guess I could have sent it back? But, I didn't. First Watch was jammed packed and crowded. I thought my server was pretty good over all. But, I won't ever order a fish dish there. Ive never been to this location before but I've been to First Watch several times in their Virginia location so I was expecting good time when I stopped by for a brunch with a friend. Her meal (avocado toast) was fine, the tres leche French toast didn't taste like tres leche but that was fine. What wasn't okay was my salad that came with my smoked salmon frittata. About a quarter of the salad had gone bad and soggy and was basically gross. When I first got the dish it looked fine (first pic) and then I started eating it and tasted off. They do not take reservations, so when we got there around 10:45 a.m., we had a 45-minute to 1-hour wait for 5 people. When our table was ready, we got a text to visit the front host stand, and we were quickly seated right after. Our server was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the Tri-Fecta and got a Chocolate Chip Pancake, Scrambled Eggs, and Chicken Sausage. I then also ordered a side of Seasoned Potatoes. The food came out fairly quickly after ordering. The pancake was delicious! The chocolate chips were melted throughout; I didn't even need syrup! The potatoes were a bit disappointing. They lacked a bit of flavor and I expected them to be a bit crispier. I couldn't eat the potatoes as they were so I added my scrambled eggs and sausage to the potatoes then topped it with Cholula Hot Sauce that was on the table. After being seated, the waitress was frequently away from the table, only returning once despite being one table down, apparently flirting and chatting with her significant other while he ate. The line consist of people who were paying and those waiting to be seated which I thought was odd. I'm use to restaurants having 2 separate lines. I was seated right away. The waitress came over within 5 minutes and offered coffee or juice. Then advised she would give me a few minutes to look over the menu. I decided on the lemon ricotta pancakes, bacon and potatoes. I ordered everything a la carte but she informed I could get the trifecta and substitute the eggs for potatoes. It was a great suggestion. The presentation of the food was mediocre and the temperature was just warm. The taste however was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Finally First Watch has a vegan item on their menu! I want to have a parade for them I am so happy! This First Watch has one community table that you can see immediately when you walk in. If you come by yourself you can make some friends at this table, or enjoy a private table solo. I got a table with my friend, and was impressed for a breakfast spot how quiet it was. It was really easy to converse and catch up with my friend. First Watch has fantastic options for vegetarians, however, it has always seemed to abandon vegans. Finally they added an açaí berry bowl to the menu which is vegan without any modifications. While I waited for my meal I got to enjoy a pot of decaf coffee all for myself. I love that First Watch let's you pour your own coffee so you never have to wait for a refill. Additionally, they brought over some oat milk to add nondairy cream to my cup. The açaí bowl was beautiful as it was decorated with granola and berries. I also loved the side of toast with almond butter. Almond butter is naturally sweet and they included some salt crystals do give it a little salty deliciousness. The açaí was very frozen and took awhile to melt into a smoothie consistency in the bowl. I wish they had warmed the açaí a little more before assembling the berries and granola on top to ensure it got to me in a form that did not require an ice pick to enjoy. Once the açaí was melted, I enjoyed the flavors and this meal was certainly filling. I hope that First Watch continues to offer vegan menu options. It would be great for them to have a vegan egg or tofu scramble on the menu next. Till then I will gladly order this meal again, and hopefully it will be less frozen next time. read more
