I had a really great experience here this week. My previous vet had resorted to using sedation for all visits w my cat. I didn't like this. The veterinarian Dr Zamzow. I am pretty sure that was his name was very patient and understanding. The prices for vaccinations and the basic exams was very reasonable. They were patient and I can tell experienced in handling my cat. He even called my cat "spirited" which was kind to my cat. She definitely is spirited. I used to not look forward to vet visits w my cat and dog. However I am somewhat looking forward to my dog visiting in June. I love the fact that cats and dogs have their own space to wait to be seen. Excellent and I would give five stars except it is visit one but they deserve it. Terrible, money-making scheme. Staff here has been instructed to up-sell every time you bring your pet in for treatment, and a simple vaccine treatment could end up costing $200+. Full examinations cost $61.00, which is roughly to be expected, but so-called "simple" examinations, or those examinations that call on a vet to look at a single area on a dog will cost $50.00. In my case, the vet took a short look at a tick bite on my dog, called me up and said "it'll be fine in a week." For that, I was charged $50. I don't doubt that South Bosque has the resources and expertise to care for your pet, but if you choose this vet, please be aware of their shady up-selling and their unfair pricing. read more

We took our sweet girl Boo Boo (13 year old lab pit mix) in today who was having lots of pain and not eating . The whole staff was so Amazing! Very sweet and super supportive and caring ( I was a crying mess) . Dr. Sharpe was Excellent! these vets are fantastic. we found a puppy that started having seizures. they got us right in and started tests. we saw dr robert at first, then had to see dr zamzow later. the pup was having seizures again. he ran more tests. they were all negative so that left a neurological cause. that pup is on meds and is a totally different pup. he has energy and no more seizures. these doctors are the best. read more

Horrible, money making scheme. Brought my dog's stool sample, $100 later, they found nothing even though I had reason to think there could be a potential issue. Relocated back home, brought the dog to the vet I've used for 20+ years, didn't cost nearly as much money and she needed to be prescribed meds. When getting her as a 8 week old puppy, they told me she needed to get an extra round of puppy shots (4 total). Believed them, but now realized it was probably just for extra money. Also, when she got spayed, she was somehow 40.1 pounds, so I was charged a higher amount which starts off at 40+ pounds. If you want to order heartguard or any other medications online (through chewy), they will require that you get a paper prescription that needs to be mailed in, trying to add a few extra steps to make it more difficult so that you will use their pharmacy ($10-15 higher for heartguard). No thanks - will not be back or recommend to others. read more

My cat, Nala, just turned 7 years old and I have been taking her to SBVC since she was 3 months old. She has chronic urinary issues and Dr. Taylor has always been great with her and knows about her past issues. I have seen 1 or 2 other veterinarians there when Dr. Taylor was out of office, and they were also very professional and helpful. They really care about your pet's health and happiness and take the time to listen and explain. The techs are also very kind and gentle with my cat, and give her pets to calm her during vaccinations. I will be using this vet for as long as I am living in Waco, and I highly recommend it. read more

Spent several hundred dollars on our dogs... 12 and 13 y/o Shitzus... vaccinations, heartworm tests, etc... one of our dogs had been having seizures and just wasn't acting right. After $200 blood work, the vet says she needs thyroid meds and possibly has Cushings disease, but heart and lungs are great! Well... a week later, she had a seizure on Sunday morning, then started having problems breathing. I called SBVC first thing Monday morning to tell them that she couldn't breathe and I was afraid she was dying... they could not see her until FRIDAY! I told them she would be dead by then... then they said they could possibly get her in on Wednesday... ended up having to take her to the Waco Emergency Vet Clinic... she had a large amount of fluid built up... they said she was struggling, so we decided to put her down. Long story short... South Bosque is happy to take your money when they are not sick but do not have time for them if they are. Will not be going back... btw... the next week, we got a reminder card that our dog needed her booster shots! I am still struggling with the thought that the vet misdiagnosed her, or she was given the incorrect medication or dosage... can't prove it nor will it change anything... hoping to find a more caring vet clinic... this isn't it. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff or the Vets at this clinic. Between my daughters and I we have assortment from Rescue Great Danes, Basset Hounds, pugs, bulldogs, frenchies, and a couple of mixed breeds. When we moved here we went thru about three vets before a friend of ours said the best is South Bosque Holly takes her fur baby here also. We have seen and visited with almost every vet at the clinic and have had a positive experience with each and every one. But we do have a favorite and it would be Dr. Zamzow He is the most compassionate person he and the wonderful assistants have held our hands during a difficult time when you have to assist one of your gifts from God to leave. It's one of the hardest decisions ever. He is very knowledgeable and up to date on all the pets needs also are the other vets so I don't mind seeing anyone of them when we come in. The front staff are kind and helpful on the phone or in person and make me and my fur babies feel welcomed. I have never experienced a group of individuals work so well together to make a place where you feel safe and they understand these are not just animals they are family and treat you and yours like I believe they would treat their own family members. I've seen mention of prices, well they are worth every penny. What price can you put on a assistant who lovingly puts a soft quilt down for your very old sick family member to lay on and then the vet and assistant sits on the floor with you comforting you and your family member as you say your final good bye and then sits and tells you take all the time you need. Then walks you out and makes sure your okay. Then months later you receive an letter from Texas A & M saying that an donation was made in your family members name towards research. They also light a candle in the front saying they when the candle is lit someone is saying goodbye. My 8 month old pup Hazel loves everyone here and if they double there prices, I would find a way to take her here. These are just my feeling and opinions. But they are the best around and if you are looking for a professional , knowledgeable clinic full of compassion and the love of animals this is your place. read more

These guys cost at least 20% more than other vets I've been to. They also want about 7 dollars more per "check-up" visit than the 9 other vets in town I called. The last time I was in, they were helpful and answered all of my questions, but they also sent me home 150$ later with a 25$ bottle of ear drops for my dog that didn't work and were hard to administer. Once I called them back they said "If you want to come back in, we can get her some different medication that is a one time deal and costs about 35$" Needless to say, my dog still has the ear infection and South Bosque wanted to charge me ANOTHER exam fee to be re-seen. Can we say money grubbing? ? Recently my dog had a severe allergic reaction, along with a secondary staph infection, and they wouldn't allow me to post date a check, even though we'd been to them before. (After calling about 9 other vets in the area - they stated that had we been currently clients of theirs they would have allowed this.) Either way I'm so much more pleased with EMERSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL that I am actually looking forward to working with them (Emersons.) again. read more

I just have to give credit where credit is due. Dr. Jered Johnston and his amazing staff have taken great care of my pets for years. The staff is caring, patient, and friendly and I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Dr. J has always been very forthright in his diagnosis and quick to explain the implications and possible outcomes of each procedure. He is a very friendly, caring, direct, and honest individual. I've even seen the staff cry with patients in certain circumstance because I was one of them. Unfortunately, my most recent visit to their office turned out to be one the worst and toughest days in my life. My 13 year old Golden's (TEX) kidneys were failing due to cancer in his body. When I posed the question of what I should do, he was very direct with my options, but wanted to do what was in the best interest of my dog and my family. A few days later, I received a hand-written note from Dr. Jered and his staff. I was deeply touched by their message and have it saved to this day. A day or two after I received their note, I received a letter from the Texas A&M Veterinary Research facility saying that a monetary donation had been made TEX's name. This gesture obviously wasn't something that they had to do, but definitely showed that they cared about the devastating situation that caused me to lose one of my best friends. I highly recommend SBVC and have referred several friends and clients to them over the years and will continue to do so. read more

I have been a very long time client of South Bosque well before the new owners took over. When Craig owned it, it was amazing. I experienced similar results in the years to come but over the last 3 visits, I noticed a lack of empathy, organization, responsiveness and an overall lack of urgency. Most recently, I called two weeks ago as my dog was not acting right. My dog was lethargic, clingy and overall was acting very nervous and strange. I called the South Bosque and told them I need to bring my dog in and was met with the first question, "are you a client here". yes I am but what difference does it make, you are a Vet. The second thing that bothered me was the comment that there were no appts available. I wasn't asking for an appt, I was telling you that I was bringing my dog in and she needs to be examined. She then told me the earliest would be Monday. Believing it was possibly a stomach bug or gastritis, I set the appt and explained I will monitor over the weekend. Changed the dogs food, she appeared better. Appt not used. Two weeks later, yesterday, my dog ate again, and again she became withdrawn. Was more clingy than ever, with some whimpering. I called South Bosque again, spoke with Morgan and was assertive this time. I told her that I'm bringing my dog in and she must be seen soon. She tells me that she doesn't have an appt and at 4:00pm because she doesn't have an appt, she will be charged Emergency fees. This is the second time she has implied that cost was an issue with me, I never brought up money, I never objected to being charged anything. I simply wanted my dog seen today and as quickly as possible. During the conversation she was full of apologies. She said she was sorry at least 15 times all along I'm trying to get her to tell me to "please, of course, bring her in, we will be happy to see her" but that was never said. She explained after apologizing again that "the doctor's have put in protocols that..." and that's where I stopped her. I immediately asked for a manager. I told him the situation and instead of him telling me to bring my dog in, he is apologizing for her. At this point, I knew that these people have no interest in caring for very sick pets. I took my dog to Cottonwood in Waco off Hwy 6 and they took her straight back and performed an ultrasound. They found a large tumor on her liver and she had developed ascites. Was given an estimated 8mos to live. This morning I returned for labs and ask for a needle aspiration of the fluid and it was pure blood. My dog is hemorrhaging internally and will have to put my dog down this weekend, if she even makes it that long. I think back and recall the unprofessional, uncaring discussions and feel that having the ability to bring my dog in that day or not would not have saved my dog but when something is wrong, your vet should be there, they should want to be the ones to figure out what is wrong with a client of theirs. They should be the ones caring for her, treating her, making her comfortable. They failed on many levels, on many many levels. If you need a teeth cleaning or nails clipped or a general assessment, or even board your dog, you might be ok with this vet. But if you are looking for your vet to be the healthcare provider for your animal, to be worried about them, care for them, love them, or provide support and treatment when things turn serious, THIS IS NOT THE VET FOR YOU. I hope none of you ever have to experience what I have with South Bosque. They are clueless in how to deal with emergent situations by these very young and inexperienced vet tech's or office managers who answer the phone. If this is not your experience, then lucky for you. I wish I had experienced what you think you have. read more

When I moved to Woodway three years ago, South Bosque Veterinary Clinic was overwhelmingly recommended as the best in the area. My interactions with their doctors for my very senior schnauzer has been only positive. The techs patiently taught me how to administer her meds and subcutaneous hydration. Dr. Zamzow (my primary vet) explains treatments and meds in detail so I know what to expect during my dogs treatments. He's also very patient with my rescued feral cat, even through trimming her toenails! Yikes! Love the front office staff and techs; friendly and knowledgeable folks! Go here for your pets health. We are relatively new to the area, and this was our first visit to a vet in Woodway/Waco. The visit was wonderful from check-in to check-out. Dr. Zamzow and his assistant Erin were friendly and professional, and they provided very understandable and thorough information. The clinic was so clean that it was spotless. My dog received a thorough examination, and his tests and shots were bought up to date. The cost seemed very reasonable. I felt confident that my pet received thorough care, and my dog seemed comfortable in the environment. I love Dr. Jered and the rest of his friendly staff at SBVC. My appointments have always been on time and they are prompt with the follow up to check on my little monsters. They have been taking care of our beasts for years and will continue to do so because I can't imagine taking them anywhere else. Price-wise, I would say that they are average and comparable to our previous vet, however; I am also a firm believer that "you get what you pay for." Dr. Johnston is talented as well as gifted at his profession and I have sent several of my friends and neighbors to him over the years. 2 other vets wanted to kill 1 of my 3 dogs after doing x-rays and overnight stays. This place didn't. While Snuggles-the dog- died eventually of a seizure, at least they treated it and we got another 2 happy years out of him. Another 1, from the same litter, ended up having a huge seizure and wouldn't come out of it. They did not run the bill up on me when they easily could have. We ended up following their advice and put him to sleep. Even got a hand written, sorry for your lost note. WOW. Our last remaining 13-going on 14- year old chihuahua just started having seizures and I'm gonna do whatever Dr. Zamzo says. I'm only writing this after looking for their number (to call frantically after a seizure) and seeing a couple bad reviews. I think these review systems are helpful but sometimes not fair? So, I decided to share my experience. Maybe the other people are competitors? Maybe they didn't get Dr. Zamzo? I don't know, but either way, I don't trust the other "just kill em" clinics at all. I hope this helps somebody that has been told to kill their dog even though it looks healthy. Don't believe it, call Dr. Zamzo. We took our 16 yr old poodle to South Bosque Veterinary clinic for the first time on December 30th and were able to make a same day appt. A top notch clinic. We were warmly greeted and made to feel like family. Our poodle had a few growths that were removed in a very short time and Dr. Leigh Ann Robert thoroughly explained the very short procedure. They all about the money!! Took my dog in, and I feel that they could`ve said what was wrong with her before they run an X-ray that they were unable to read but still charged for it. And all the tests were performed on her and come back with same result, unable to tell whats going on. But in the end I am been charged for some medicine, that they could`ve prescribe without hundreds of dollars in unnecessary tests. 40$ for 10 pills that you can buy them 16 for 4$ on Amazon Nice people there, but their smile is very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. read more

The doctors and staff are amazing. They have saved the life of two of my brothers dogs and have always taken great care of my own. We have gone through two surgeries, a few emergency visits, and many regular appointments and with each visit the entire staff was amazing. I had a difficult great dane that was so aggressive he needed sedation to enter the clinic and got stress colitis very time I took him in. The doctors at South Bosque always took their time with him and treated him as their own. After a few visits my dane didn't need sedation anymore and came to love the staff. I have been with South Bosque since 2006 when Dr. Williams owned the office. I am 100% disabled from the military and have 5 to 7 dogs at any one time and about 7 cats. When any of my animals were sick I always took them in to Dr. Williams office. No one else. The staff there is great, the Drs are super and the prices slightly higher but the reason I liked them was that this office let me make payments. In 9 years I spent thousands and thousands of dollars and not one check bounced. The staff and Drs there are great and very caring. March 31, 2015 was Dr. Williams last day. He sold the business. The new owner will not allow checks. This I certainly understand when starting a new business. Due to this I will have to leave. But if you do want a good Vet, you have some wonderful vets at South Bosque. I want to wish Dr. Johnston much success in his new business. I love Dr. Roberts also she is such a sweetie. I am sorry to say that after 9 years with them I will have to leave them and find a vet who is willing to work with me and allow me payment plans. If not for that alone I would probably be there another 9 years. I want to wish Dr. Johnston all the best in his new business and hope that he has a striving business. We started going to South Bosque Vet Clinic when we moved to Waco last year, and (unfortunately) have had to see them several times for our lab. Dr. Johnston is our usual vet, but we have seen Dr. Ferguson for 2 urgent appointments when Dr. Johnston was out of the office. Both are professional, knowledgeable and caring. They explain their diagnosis well and do not over-treat the problems. The office is always clean and the office staff is very friendly / helpful. We have been able to get in for appointments on the same day when there are urgent problems, and Dr. Ferguson even stayed late for one appointment. read more

This is hands down the best vet office I've ever taken a pet to! My dog sees Dr. Hudspath, but I have friends who go to other vets in the clinic and they love them too. The office is off of HWY 84 past FBC Woodway, so it is a little off the normal path. I stumbled upon my vet when my dog had to take a trip to the Waco ER Clinic. I was so impressed by her care for my dog, and her desire to explain things to me clearly, that I decided she would be our full time vet! My dog recently had major surgery and they explained things to me so I understood, never made me feel bad for asking questions, and let me come play with him when he had to stay there multiple nights. I have been using this vet for years. My dog Banjo loves all the staff whether be is being examined or just boarding. Both my granddaughter and daughter-in-law use the same vet.
