My foodie and beer/whiskey loving brother was visiting from Texas, so we decided to do a brewery hop on a rainy spring day. We started at South County Brewery. A little bit of a drive from Baltimore, but worth every mile. This place is located in a nondescript warehouse type building that is surprisingly spacious when you enter. The beer board was extensive - yes! We tried several good IPAs and Stouts, while enjoying a low key visit in the video game area with picnic table seating. A great place to hang out on a rainy day. Excellent bar service here. Definitely will make the trek again in the future. read more

First time visiting, was in the area and my wife picked it from Yelp. The good - gorgeous facilities, broad selection of beers, decent menu variety. At the end of our meal we were definitely full... we had the chili, the brisket platter w a 1/2 chicken and the Mac n cheese. The so-so - the building was freezing, the waitress said it was because there were only one set of vents for heating and cooling and they were about 30' in the air... lots of people with their coats on. - The cornbread had an odd taste that my wife called "dish soap flavor". Asked the waitress if there was lavender or other strong ingredient but she had no idea and said there's a new pastry chef. - The menu says "1/2 chicken" but seriously, it could easily be confused for a quail... I came there with my family to celebrate my birthday. I asked if they had any non-alcoholic beer options and our waitress literally rolled her eyes and laughed at my question. "Umm, no. This is a brewery." I was shocked and embarrassed to be answered so rudely. I was with our children and did not want to ruin our meal together. I'm more angry at myself for not addressing it on the spot with the manager. read more

I've been a fan of South County beer for some time, but have never visited. Be sure to empty your bladder before you leave. The closer you get, the more bumpy the roads. The location definitely suits the name - it sure is southern York County. You pull into a micro business park, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields. At first I wasn't sure if we were in the right place and it kinda looked sketch. The tasting room is very small, dark and gets very crowded. There are about 7-8 tables on the patio plus the fire pit area. Tried almost all of the beers on tap and was not disappointed! Prices are also reasonably priced. My husband and I had a total of six beers and purchased a 4-pack for $55 (not including tip). So, $5.50/beer is excellent! Looking forward to the new location opening. They definitely need the space. Hopefully there will be more than one restroom. read more

Food was mediocre for the price. Maybe I had my standards set too high. Ribs had good flavor but they didn't fall off the bone. They were not tough. Somewhere between. The sausage barley was cutable with the butter knife they give you and my buffalo chicken dip could use more heat and chicken. It was loud, yet a comfortable atmosphere, the service and staff were amazing. read more

While we love the beers, this flagship location has been sadly neglected. The outdoor patio area needs serious TLC - furniture are all worn and chipped and torn, weeds growing between cracks, debris and cobwebs, overgrown trees. Truly we are die hard fans of SCB so if the owners can allocate resources to this location we'd fully enjoy coming here more. Otherwise it'll just be take out for us. read more

I visited South County this weekend for the first time. I had some friends who have been before and highly recommended it. Now I totally agree with them! My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. We each tried a couple of the beers and had no complaints. My husband even purchased a few 4 packs to go. They really have something for everyone. Even though it was a bit chilly, we sat outside around the fire pit which kept us warm. We are already planning another visit later this month and we are bringing a few friends along. read more

Loved the beer here. Bartender was friendly. They didn't have food at this location so I'd like to try the York location.

Verdict: I'd take a gallon of the Gelato - Orange Mango if they'd let me. I know sharing is the right thing to do but I wouldn't mind hoarding some of their milkshake IPA. There wasn't a bad beer in the bunch but there was something extra special about that Orange Mango concoction. The Fridge in Lancaster apparently gets some occasionally so be on the lookout. It'll sell out there and at South County before you have time to grab a second round. I enjoyed my trip to South County and would gladly go back. The small but welcoming bar area has everything you need and the outdoor area with a fire pit adds just what you want on a warm day or frosty evening. If you live anywhere in the area, it's worth the trip. read more

Picture small brewery, tiny industrial park, excellent beer. You have arrived. If you sneeze, you'll drive past it. There is a florist shop and small restaurant adjacent. You can get some food for yourself and flowers for your wife if you're in trouble for being at the pub. Perfect set up! The inside bar area has maybe 10 barstools, and a few tables. It's nice and quiet without several big screen TVs screaming at you. The gentleman pouring the beers was an amiable and bearded fellow who knows his brews, and eager to chat without going overboard on the Dale Carnegie routine. I wish they had food at the bar; not even chips and salsa or peanuts, though. I am told you can get food next door at the adjacent restaurant but we didn't check it out. They weren't doing growler fills at the time of my visit, but have the canned goodies for sale in the cooler. The beers were unfiltered and really very good. Sound Machine and Liminal Moment were standouts on the pale ale side of things. The Dark Thread was an excellent porter, and would stand up against Victory at Sea and Edmund Fitzgerald. Thick, rich and malty with good chocolate notes. I wish this place much success. The beers are worth the drive and it's a nice quiet place to drink and discuss the art of brewing. read more

Stopped in with a party of three to get a beer and some lite fare. First let me say this is a gorgeous facility. The decor is plank live edge wood tables, large fireplace, high ceilings with huge chandeliers, a glass view of the impressive brewing area and several bars. The food however was lackluster. Remember we were looking for lite fare and had a limited selection. The Onion Soup ranks among the worst I have ever had. You don't mess with Onion Soup as it is a tried and true standard. They added some strange citrus flavoring that in an attempt to be creative ruins the experience, along with burnt black pieces of Onion and brick hard croutons combined with minimal amount of cheese. The pizza, although obviously brick oven fired was bland and tasteless. The beer was good, which is why you go to a Brewery. So in short, go for the beer but eat elsewhere. They also have a large selection of canned brews in a large refrigerated cooler. read more

The best beer on the area. Great staff and atmosphere. Jimmy's next door has amazing food. IPAs are incredible and the porters/stouts are delicious. The gelato line is a staple but good luck getting a taste unless you're there for the release. Easily the best beer and excited to see them expand to York. read more

Very cool brewery that is worth the trip to the small town of Fawn Grove. Bartender and Brewmaster were super friendly-invited my wife and I into the brewery to explain the brewing process and the canning machine that was on site for the weekend canning. Beers were very good and reasonably priced. The limited edition Virgil aged in bourbon barrels was outstanding-took a bottle home and a 4 pack of the day runner IPA. You can call the sub shop which i believe is next door to bring food. Definitely check it out if you like craft brews! read more

South County is a great craft(micro)brewery tucked away in Fawn Grove, PA. Living in the Harrisburg area, it's over an hour drive away, but well with the road trip! The tap list is always growing and contains beer made in the brewery as well as wine from local wineries. They have seasonal brews as well as beer that they make year round. The Dark Thread Porter, Virgil(Bourbon Barrel aged Dark Ale), and Liminal Moment Double IPA are favorites of mine. This place is my favorite brewery, they have an awesome selection of beers. Their cosmic nod and intervals IPA are some of the best I've ever had. They also have pilsners, lagers and even wine for non beer drinkers. The brewmaster is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They offer a bunch of drafts in their tasting room and many beers to go in the form of cans, bottles, growlers, and kegs. They also offer food that is delivered right to you from the restaurant next store and they now have an outside patio! read more

I had tried a bottle of their American Ale right when the brewery first opened and did not give it much thought. However, recently in early August 2013 I went to try some of their portfolio at the brewery's tasting room and was blown away! First off, the tasting room is locating in the entrance area where you can also purchase bottles and cases. The atmosphere here is very vibrant and modern. I tried their ESB (perfect mouth feel and balance) and IPA (unbelievable juicy citrus quality from the hops) on tap for free and had a great conversation with the brewer. He was very easygoing and friendly, definitely a guy who is passionate about his craft. Afterward I bought some bottles of each to take home. The prices were very reasonable and I had a wonderful experience. Would recommend to all! read more

Take a short drive into the country and find this gem of a micro brewery. So good and so inexpensive! I left with 4 cases of 22 oz bottles!
