Longer version: I ordered pulled pork sandwich, fries, drink and they gave me a free cookie. Tots were h-o-t and fresh. Great portion of pork on a bun and wrapped in a foil type paper. Included all 4 sauces that were packaged perfectly as to not spill. Meat was expertly seasoned, moist but not so much it made the bun a sopping mess. Met the owner Clarissa and her husband. The cook is a little slow but I'm chalking it up to a lunch time crowd. The grilled chicken salad was ordered over and over to the point that they sold out by 12:15. This hidden spot is not one to miss. I spent 10 years in FL and missed GA BBQ! Since I have been back, this place meets my GA BBQ standards. This is what I was craving. This is a local family owned business. The owners were so friendly and definitely have a passion for their craft The owners care about the product being put out. I had the brisket sandwich that had so much meat that I made a 2nd sandwich out of the pork that fell out. Lol. I highly recommend putting the slaw right on top of the brisket. South End Smokehouse is located inside Chamblee Tap and Market. There's plenty of seating inside and it's obvious that this is a meet up, study, or remote work spot for the locals. Order is at the counter and quick and easy. They have a $15 lunch special which is sandwich of the day, a side, and a homemade cookie. The day I was there, the sandwich was turket. I ended up going for the brisket cheesesteak and a side of potato salad which was roughly $25 before tip. That said, the brisket cheesesteak was massive with consideration for the whole presentation. The bread was crunchy and soft and the melted provolone added a subtle flavor to the smoked meat. I do think I would have liked a bit more peppers and onions but it also may have distracted from tbe brisket so that's very much a personal preference thing. The potato salad popped - both visually and taste wise. Plenty of mustard and nice soft potatoes without being mushy and slimy. It was an excellent compliment. I also got the house sauce to go with the brisket. The cashier recommended doing their spicy sauce and in hindsight, I think she was right. They have four sauces and I'd want to be back to try the rest. All in all, this is a welcome addition to tbe Chamblee area. I definitely see this as a lunch spot for young professionals or an after work meet up when the bar is open. I plan to be back and explore other parts of the menu. read more

So I have been here a couple of time and it's pretty cool of a place. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's right across from the Chamblee Town Hall... So you can't miss it. This place is still in development as a whole but the smokehouse part in the building is perfectly fine and intact. You may not know it's there but once you walk through, you will see it. Coming in to the area you have free parking. It may not be right next door but there are plenty of parking areas that don't have to worry about paying so that is not a concern. There's a lot of outdoor seating, so you can walk out in and eat and drink or even if you want to go across the street as well. There are a few walkable areas that you can go to, so it'll be nice for a great evening out to grab some beers. Be outside. The service has been good every time I've went. Everybody it's been really cool they they talk very highly about the menu and the food and give you the suggestions on. You may want to try. You can sit out and have a seat in. They'll bring the food to you or you come get it, and they're really chatty and friendly during this process. Brisket cheesesteak - I initially went for brisket but is good. I wanted to give it a try so I tried the brisket cheese steak which is basically like a Philly cheesesteak. It has all the melted cheese and it has the hoagie roll and it has the peppers and onions on it, it's really good actually. It's so much that you can barely close the sandwich but that's not a bad problem to have LOL. They have a couple of different sauces you can try, but you probably won't need the sauces because it's already decently flavorful. And there's so much of it that you won't need anything else really. Probably after you finish eating it. Tater tots - they were tater tots LOL. Nothing more Collard greens - the collard greens didn't really have a lot of flavor to them. This was a bit much to be desired. They had meaning them so you know that they smoke meat and put it in the greens but they didn't have any flavor to them. So I probably would not get these again. Overall, this is a really good spot if you want to duck off a little bit and have a beer and some patio time. This area is still building so they're going to be a lot more things there so just keep that in mind but right now, this is probably the main event aside from the beer bar, to go to for this establishment. read more

Yummy BBQ here! I've been here around 3 times so I think that's good enough to give a final verdict. I've tried the sliced chicken BBQ sandwich and it is GOOD. The sweet & spicy sauce is even better. Do yourself a favor and add coleslaw to the sandwich. I love the tater tots, but the potato salad side wasn't my favorite. I brought two colleagues here and they tried the brisket and pork sandwiches and they both said this was some of the best BBQ that they'd ever had! Wow! Since this place is inside the "food hall", you order at the counter and then have a seat wherever you'd like and then they text you. I like the ambiance of the tap market and it's a great place to grab lunch with colleagues and then have a coffee afterwards! The only thing that I don't like is the parking, we ended up parking behind Chamblee City Hall which isn't bad, but just not as convenient. Needless to say, I'll be back. read more

Yes!!! Love South End. I am huge bbq fan and am so glad I discovered them. We visited the Chamblee Market and found out South End had their smokehouse inside. It's difficult to find great bbq these days because everyone thinks they have mastered it. I will say South End has... (in my opinion). We've been multiple times. We typically get the platter so we can try different things. All the proteins are great and the mac n cheese..... So good!!! It's in a great location if you like beer as well. Life changing brisket! If you could ever dream of what brisket should be and then multiply it times five you would have an understanding of how incredible this brisket is. It's better than I would say most world champion briskets. It's the brisket that I can't even stop thinking about. And the people who run the place are so incredibly gracious and nice and family owned down to earth fabulous. Highly recommend go check out the brisket and all the other things and support this small business that is so deserving of all the accolades. I only eat brisket everywhere I go for barbecue and none could even come close to this, even my all-time favorites have been totally overtaken by south end smokehouse. I asked for my brisket sandwich with the sauce on the side. That's the way I judge brisket. The gentleman tried to convince me to sauce it, I insisted, sauce on the side. Food is excellent. Brisket is the best I've had in Atlanta. It is located in a "market" type building. When we arrived there was a mahjong club playing. There are boxed games. The 'Tap" wasn't open, I'm sure it would have added to the ambiance. The restaurant serving area is very poorly planned - or I should say it's not planned. The people are walking all over each other behind the counter. The walk way thru is too narrow for 2 or 3 people to be working back there. The cook has to cross behind the register to put the orders on shelves before they are picked up. The register area is too small to be efficient. It wasn't really busy when we were there, I can't imagine how this would work when they are very busy. Please reassess the layout for the counter service. You are creating a lot of problems for yourselves. read more

We stumbled into this cool place and found South End Smokehouse. It was SO GOOD!! My husband had a brisket sandwich and I had a brisket plate with coleslaw and tater tots. Everything was really good. The brisket was delicious and seasoned uniquely! I loved how they cut it in cubes instead of sliced. Just a nice touch. Everything was so good. And I just ate left overs. Great team of guys that are really putting in the effort for some damn good barbecue! The brisket was so juicy and the chicken was the best I've had in Atlanta by far. It was well smoked and super moist, almost rotisserie but not greasy. The potato salad is legit and Cole slaw was not all mayo like you get at some other places. First visit here exceeded expectations. Been less than impressed with the bbq offerings in the Brookhaven/Chamblee area. Yes, that includes Fox, OBP, P&C etc. This place however, will definitely fill that void for me. I'll start w the ribs, the rub was on point which made the bark pop with that sweet heat we love in BBQ. Perfect competition bite, great chew but not overcooked ie. "fall of the bone". Ate 1/2 rack that seriously needed no sauce, they spoke for themselves. Chicken, they use thighs rather than breast, again competition style but wo the skin,and they nailed it. Great rub, hint of smoke, and the thighs always stay juicy. Pulled pork, yes pulled not shredded, was great pork flavor, not too much brining, complimented well with either their great mustard base or vinegar base. Their vinegar base is simple yet classic, the mustard took me back to my SC roots and that flavor I look for. Also tried the sausage which was solid, but had to save room for the ribs. Didn't try Brisket this time, but will definitely next time, I got a feeling they nailed that as well though. As far as the sides, beans were excellent, sweet hint again, with great balance. Collards were great as well as slaw. These were not only my opinions, but my wife's as well, and she's very particular about her bbq.
