But Doordash helped me make sure I had a chance to give their Korean bbq pork (and brisket) a try. My impression was that it's really all about the sauce, with its blend of spicy, sweet, and just a little funkiness, though both the pork and brisket had a nice level of smoky authenticity to them. I can't say the mac and cheese blew me away, but it was a solid side. If I lived nearby, I'd be regularly getting the pork sandwiches. This place is attached to a corner store and looks like somewhere you'd stop to buy a pack of cigarettes and a scratch off. Instead it has some of the best BBQ I've had in Atlanta. They mix traditional southern BBQ with Korean flavors and somehow everything works. We got the chicken sandwich, spicy Korean pork, greens, Brunswick stew and mac and cheese. Everything was great, but the mac and cheese was fucking phenomenal. I could've eaten a gallon of it. The Korean pork was so good it'd make you want to crash a plane into your enemies. The city's Michelin stars leaned heavily toward pristine sushi counters where lunch could easily become a three-hour exercise in restraint and expense. Not today. Instead, a Bib Gourmand caught my eye. Heirloom Market BBQ. The address looked odd. The photos looked even stranger. Was Michelin seriously recommending what appeared to be a convenience store? Naturally, I was intrigued. The closer I looked, the less it resembled your grandfather's barbecue joint. Yes, there was brisket and pork. But there was also kimchi. Pickled vegetables. Gochujang. Color. Acid. Freshness. Suddenly the idea of barbecue for lunch didn't feel like signing up for an afternoon food coma. By 11:30, I was standing in line beside construction workers, office employees, and locals who clearly knew something I didn't. I ordered the smoked, diced, and braised spicy pork topped with kimchi slaw and cucumber kimchi. Korean barbecue sauce arrived on the side. For good measure, I added the green tomato kimchi--a mix of sweet and spicy pickled green tomatoes, jalapeños, and radishes. The pork was everything good barbecue should be. Tender without falling apart. Smoky without becoming bitter. Moist without relying on sauce. Deeply satisfying in that primitive way smoked meat always seems to be. The green tomato kimchi was extraordinary. Bright, crunchy, layered with acidity, sweetness, and just enough jalapeño heat to keep your attention. Every bite reset your palate before the next forkful of pork. It's the kind of side dish that refuses to stay a side dish. The Korean barbecue sauce deserves its own paragraph. Gochujang led the charge, backed by enough vinegar to cut through the richness and enough heat to remind you someone in the kitchen enjoys having fun. Against all odds, I managed to finish lunch without wearing any of it on my green Oxford shirt. A personal victory. Heirloom Market isn't polished. Service is efficient rather than memorable. You order, you eat, you leave. That's the point. What lingers isn't the hospitality. It's the confidence. This kitchen knows exactly what it wants to be. Southern barbecue filtered through Korean flavors isn't a gimmick here--it's the language they speak fluently. The entire meal reminded me of La Barbecue in Austin, another place where smoke is only part of the conversation. Michelin eventually rewarded La Barbecue with a star. A friend sent me an instagram video of Heirloom market bbq, and I'm so glad they did. I never would have known this gem existed if they hadn't. The 2 meat combo, pork and Brisket was excellent. The brisket was maybe the best I had in Georgia. The sweet and sour wings were fantastic! The Mac and cheese was good, but not out of this world good. I placed my order at around 10:30 am online. Pulled in to the parking lot at around 11:01, walked right up and was greeted. I let them know my name, and in about 5 minutes I had my order. Updating my review after trying Heirloom again and having a better grasp of what I consider great brisket to taste like. This time around, I felt that the brisket was a bit too dry and undersalted. I appreciate the thicker slices, but when it's not moist enough, it starts to feel more like a block. Perhaps we were not given a moist piece, but the brisket in my opinion was still undersalted, and therefore did not carry much flavor. Our party got their 3x3 combo and the other meats were decent. The turkey was actually pretty decent (not dry like it usually ends up being). The sides were okay but I didn't feel like they were anything special. We came here on a Friday around 4-5pm so we beat the dinner rush and missed the lunch rush. Perfect timing, as they said they do get very busy. The chef was so nice and gave us some free BBQ sausage to try in addition to our order, delicious. Ribs, tender juicy and flavorful. I dont think ive ever had collared greens, but here they were delicious! I cannot say a bad thing about this place. Its in an unassuming portion to the right of a convenience store. There is art on the walls of patio painted by Erica Arndts of celebrities eating BBQ and the family that provides the exceptionally good food. A meal of a sandwich and a side will run about $14-15. They provide free water in a cooler on the patio but you can also run next door and get a soda (or Arizona iced tea cause they are great and 22 oz's still only cost .99). Service is friendly but be aware that when you get to the place, you need to scan a QR code, place an order, then tell the person delivering bags of food the name you placed the order under. I would definitely recommend putting the slaw on your sandwich!
