My neighbors mentioned this "new" dog park on Mauna Loa that is near our home and clean. I was pretty excited to check it out on the weekend. I showed up with the puppy brother in the early afternoon only find the dog park completely empty. The park is surrounded by a black chicken wire fence adorned with happy dog shadows all around it. The grass is still green, there is plenty of poopy bags there and there is a few shaded spots for the humans to hang out in. After a few minutes, two other dogs showed up. Maybe I went too early on the weekend for this or maybe not too many people know about it yet. The dog owners I met were nice and I had no trouble asking if they're dogs were friendly enough to play with mine. There is also some hiking trails near by, be safe if you decide to do those and be prepared for dirt and bugs, and take some water with you. The small/medium dog side area is a bit on the small side. Just because we have smaller dogs doesn't mean that our dogs don't like to run the distance. There is only one/two benches available for people to sit on. There was also some poop around the area. The large side area (which I went too after the little dog left) had a lot more shade than the small/medium sized dog area. There is a HUGE tree there and lots of branches for dogs to pick up their sticks to play with. That area by the tree though seems to be a bit on the smelly side and big poops over there. **Keep your eyes out as you walk, there tends to be a lot of poop left over from previous visits. People really should learn to pick up after their dogs***** I would also recommend bringing your own water bowl. This dog park is so nice! I like that they have a big dog section and a little dog section, this is the first I've seen that they have dog shaped placards all around the fence to indicate the different sizes of each side. Very helpful if you happen to be the first person there. I brought my small dog on a Saturday afternoon and there were a couple people with their dogs. Soon after, there were about 15 small dogs. It was a really diverse crowd and the owners were very respectful in trying to control their dogs from begging. But who can really resist the little munchkins? One fellow doggo owner told me that this location and the San Dimas location take turns closing for several months of the year to put in new grass and allow it to grow for the puppers. That is just so awesome. There is plenty of shade so you won't have to burn in the sun watching your fur baby. Plenty of street parking. read more

We arrived at the park at about 11:30 on a Sunday. There was plenty of parking and the park was not too crowded. Tried hiking but it had just rained the day before, and the trail was too muddy. Headed for the doggy spaces instead. We have a big doggy and a little doggy and they were both very happy! We stopped by to visit the new dog park. It's off Mauna Loa Ave. hidden behind homes. There is a large dog side, and a small dog side. Both sides are roughly about the same size, which for large dogs isn't too big. The small dog side was more crowded and had quite a bit of small dogs running around. There's an umbrella that provides it with shade. The large dog side had about 5 dogs in it at any given time, and a bench under a tree. It's about 3/4 grass, and the last 1/4 is mulch. The entire fence is lined with metal dog art, which was nice. There's a stand of doggy bags so you can pick up after your pup. Water for the pups (and humans) is located outside of the park near the entrance. Off to the side of the parks is a children's playground with interactive wind chimes, which is cool. Overall, it doesn't provide a whole lot of space for dogs to run around (if your dog is a runner). The dogs are all well behaved. There were some owners of one dog that did not pick up after their dog, but did warn others that "a dog pooped over there, and their owners didn't clean it." read more

C'mon Yelpers, you're making this dog park sound like these shenanigans happen on a regular basis! Let me say that this IS NOT the norm for our local DP. The South Hills dog park is generally quiet, filled with friendly/ respectful peeps, and fairly well-behaved pooches. It's true, there are drawbacks to this DP. It's very small and is often crowded. It can be muddy, and yes, sometimes you will encounter unruly pets (and their clueless owners) once in a while. But overall, you can expect a pleasant experience when you visit our humble dog park. read more

This is a dog park located near a great hiking area and dalton wash. Two sections: small dogs under 35 pounds Large section: for the big dogs. Dog area isn't as huge as you think but my Molly had an awesome time. We've been here a few times during the renovations last year. We always had a good time hanging with the smaller dogs Usually it's only me and Molly but today we had so many friends to play with. No aggressive dogs so that's a plus. And lots of regulars *if your dog doesn't enjoy the dog park and hates it every time, fine remove all the stars from your review.. Nice little park, and it's so close to home! They've always been open when I've gone, I haven't seen anything about "park-rationing" as described by others. Green, shade (though a lot more on the large side), benches, WATER, and easily accessible doggy bags. Everything is fenced off in a really nice rubberized chain-link. I've never seen anyone else's poop, so that's a plus. All the owners I've come across have been great, very talkative and friendly. Same with their dogs, they have been very playful, even when we've been invited with the big dogs! read more

We just moved to the area from Orange County and were looking for a new dog park. We found this one and we love it! It's on the smaller side, but we love the dual turf and grass! My dogs are pretty big and there's enough room for them to run around and let loose a bit. A dog friendly hike is also right next to it, also a plus. I tried this place out for the it's time on a Wednesday with my two chihuahuas. There weren't any other small dogs there but there were two in the big dog area. It's a decent size place. Really small park surrounding it but its nice and peaceful. My dogs enjoyed it. They got to roam around without me have to worry about any other dogs. There were plenty of doggie waste bags there when I went just in case u didn't happen to bring your own. It was a little muddy in curtained shades areas, but I think that's only because they water in the early mornings. Overall it's a decent place and I will be back. read more

The reason im giving it 4 stars is that i wish there was covered seating in the large dog area. It gets hot and sunny and even the seat under the tree is sometimes not covered. I usually go to the West Covina dog park but thought to change it up a little. We went there around 2pm. Early for doggie play time. I read the reviews of this park. Thought I was prepared but I was wrong. As I was notified by a VERY VERY RUDE LADY, that there is a schedule in place for which dogs gets to use the SMALL DOG PARK AREA on which day. This 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper is tacked onto the fence on the side, easily missed. She told me to get my dog immediately, I profusely apologized that its my first time, I didn't see that note, that I was invited in by other owners earlier that it would be ok for my dog to play with with their little dogs. No one mentioned any posted schedule. My dog is friendly medium size dog, she's not aggressive, she's just about a yr old. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to this dog park (Thanks alot rude old lady!). Other owners I met, (there was a few) seemed very nice. Their dogs played nice as well. No one seems to know why the large dog park area is closed. It just says for maintenance. Supposedly to reopen at a later date. Park is on the small side. Of all the other dog parks I've gone to, this one is even smaller than the one off of the 110 FWY near South Pas. its clean though. Full of grass and water fountain inside for the dogs. This is a great dog park! The park is always well maintained and there is plenty of water for your dogs incase they work up a thirst. Tennis balls and sticks are always available for playing fetch or chewing. I find that the 'big dog' side is always fuller than the 'small dog' side, but that's okay with me. More room for the little ones. The park is always emptier during the day, which can be nice. So far, everyone we've met has been very friendly. read more

Alright the San Dimas dog park is closed so I decided to check out this dog park. The dog park is located in a residential area. One of the first things I noticed was the drinking fountain was leaking and creating a huge muddy area close to the entrance. Yikes! Why isn't this fixed yet? Negative star. Second, there was a group all sitting in a circle not watching their dogs and a few dogs were leaving landmines. With that said the people outside the circle were very friendly and responsible for their dogs. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and my dogs had fun. read more

I love the park I took my dog here for his first time ever at a dog park he had a blast. We ended up leaving earlier than we had planned when an uneducated dog owner showed up with equally unruly dog that didn't respect or listen to the nab. But the knucklehead with high energy dog with no people /dog skills didn't detour us from coming back my advice when you come across a dog owner/dog like we did is to just leave without a dog fight or a fist fight. Cons: Park size is a bit small esp. for the large dogs area, encountered some owners who don't pick up their dogs' poop (not the parks' fault), muddy patches on some parts of the park, and water fountain is located outside the park. Took my dog here just to see how it was from the reviews. The park was a little hidden to get to considering that you'd need to drive through neighborhoods. The park itself was pretty small and I came on a saturday evening with my little pom and there was only about 4-5 dogs which is nothing compared to the san dimas dog park (was at that park before coming to this one). I don't like how the benches are positioned because the sun is dead onto your face when you're sitting down during sunset. I assume dog parks are most populated when its around 4PM until the evening since thats when people are mostly free as well. Anyway a huge plus for this park having a doggy drinking fountain and I think its okay as well. I'll probably just stick to the dog park at west covina since it seems nicer and a lot of dogs tend to be over there compared to this once minus random people coming in treating it like a petting zoo read more

Oh so small. So small. The big dog side is no bigger than the small dog side. If you have a small dog then yeah, this is the place to go. But I've got me a lab that likes to run after balls and frisbees. The big dog side is just not big enough for that. What's worst is that the big dog side is so weirdly constructed. There's a huge tree smack in the middle and it's sunken in so it's not a level area for the dogs to run. It's definitely a place that would be flooded when it rains. This place is nice and I like the fact that there is a hiking trail behind the park I can go up with my dog. Although the park is quite small, it is well maintained. If you have even a medium size high energy dog, don't even think about taking your perfectly good pup into the "small dogs" area. I took my super excited border collie puppy when she was about 6 months because the large side was closed, the entire crowed of mini dog owners faces changed. Even though some of their dogs were barking none stop, they hated my girl. She went to jump up on a lady which was her thing just loving all humans more than dogs, she straight elbowed my dog to "protect" her little dog. We got out of there real quick. Segregation is real here so stay away from those owners that think their small dogs are human infants. read more

First time Loky and I checked out this dog park in comparison to our usual in West Covina. Our thoughts : The dog park is located in a residential area and the dog park is separated into two fenced off boundaries for the small and large breeds. The small side size was good enough but the large side could use some upgrading. The decor of the park is nice with stencil cut outs of different type of dogs. Each side has a water fountain and benches for resting. So happens the day we visit at around 6pm the small dog side had abt 2-3 dogs (zzzzz loky was bored). Thankfully the large dog side flooded so everyone came in to join and it was a lovely time until an anal dog owner felt it was his right to loudly express himself and let one of the large dog owners that he wasn't allowed into the park because his dog was not altered. I agree it's stated in the rules on the fence BUT did he really need to go the full housewife duties and call the city police? Really? Was that really necessary? I'm surprised the cops actually showed up and you wonder why actual emergency calls are delayed? Loky had a grand ol time when everyone joined in on the party but we will likely not be returning to this park. We will stick with our neighboring park and/or beach. read more

I just found out about this dog park in Glendora. We usually go to thenone in San Dimas but this is much closer to our house. My dog had a good time although there were not as many dogs when we went. Seemed to be about an average of three dogs in the large dog area. It is smaller than San Dimas so if your dog is a runner then this might not be a good fit but it fits my dog just fine.There are nice trails around that you can walk the dog on a leash around the park too. Only thing is that the grass is thicker here so there are remnants of dog mess in certain areas. read more

This is a great place to take your dogs. We have two small dogs (now 3 temporarily) and they absolutely love it. Its always a hit or miss with the amount of other dogs to play with. Sometimes there are 10 dogs and sometimes none. If you wait around for a while, the numbers can go way up or way down. It's always been a pleasant place and the other dog owners are always great to talk to. Very nice and simple with lots of very happy dogs. The big dog side can also be crowded or empty but wait long enough and more dogs will come. read more

Part of South Hills Park, the dog park is two side-by-side fenced-in areas at the base of the South Hills Wilderness area. The entrance into the dog areas is in the middle of the fenced area, and creates a buffer between the small dog side (under 30 lbs) and the bid dog side (over 30s lbs). Both sides have the same amount of grassy area, and the big dog side has an additional grove of about 5 or 6 tall leafy trees along the little hillside. I like that both the big and little dog areas have shaded benches inside the dog area. The water fountains by the fence entrance include a dog fountain, which is nice. There was a tiny bit of mud surrounding one of the sprinklers, which seemed to be where the dogs wanted to be most, so you might want to bring a little hand towel to wipe off wet paws. We just adopted our 7-month-old Border Collie, and today was the first time we brought him to a dog park. I didn't know how the park would be divided, and wasn't sure which side to pick. He's 30 lbs, and kinda on the scrawny side for his height. There were two beefy Labradors and a tall Ridgeback and their owners in the big dog area. Luckily, the small dog side had just emptied, so we got a chance to see how our pup would do off-leash in the park without other dogs for a little while. When new small dogs came (a couple of Mini Basset Hounds and a little Terrier), we went over to the big dog side. The other people and dogs were so friendly, sharing toys and swapping stories. Okay. First things first. As far as the design and location of the park goes the South Hills Dog Park is pretty nice. And, I've met some nice people and dogs there. The past couple of times there were dog owners who misinterpreted my dogs playful barking for aggression. One man with an intact bull dog walked up to me and said, "You better watch out. My dog will lock on yours." A threat? Oh well, there is a class of people who think and behave this way....Then, a second dog and owner. Another intact dog and attitude galore. That was enough for me. No fun. So, I started to doing some research on dog parks and opinions of dog parks and decided my pooch, who loves people and gets along fine with other dogs, will be neutral to other dogs, and socialized to people... Enjoy the dog park, but understand that an aggressive dog may injure yours or give it ideas it might not have had before. It's your choice and responsibility! read more

The park is better in some ways than it was last year. There are not as many puddles and the big dog side has been open now for awhile. The worst part about this park is the gravel around it. I took our Cane Corso puppy here around 7:30 am because it was her first time going to a dog park and I didn't want it to be very busy. No other dogs came while we were there, which was fine with me because it gave my beastly puppy a chance to sniff things out. It was very clean. It was muddy but the water fountain, but I don't think I've ever been to a dog park that wasn't. The small dog side was grass and the big dog side was dirt. I do prefer the dog parks with a little grass, but it's not a big dog park. It is very nice and we will be back. read more

This dog park is in the residential area, just off of Glendora Ave. It doesn't feel too closed in though, since the other side of the fence is next to the hillside. We went to the small dogs area. The park itself is medium size and LOOKS reasonably clean. There are plenty of signs, poop bags and trash cans, and yet, there are dogs poop every where. Quite dirty and smelly. Great dog park. No matter where you go there will always be rude know it all's. I have run into a few that have "pointed out " things about my dogs or my training to me. They watch an episode of Dog Whisperer and they think they know everything about dog training. Don't mind these people, they're at every dog park you will go to. This dog park is clean, a bit small, and always filled with Nice people and sociable dogs. I'm here every week, and my dogs love it. This is a small dog park but it is nice that they separate the small and large dogs. There are rarely many dogs here, unfortunately and it is not the cleanest and sometimes out of waste bags. I have encountered the same man with his husky twice, the second time his dog mauled mine, and the damage wasn't visible until later on. He laughed at his "cute girl." My dog required surgery for what his dog did to mine, so watch out if you go here. Like any dog park, you take a risk. I have seen many dog fights at this park, many more than any other local dog park, and would never go here again. read more
