I hired SJ Moving to pack up and move a 4 bdrm house that had 2 bdrms already empty. They had 2 bdrm sets, a sectional couch, 2 recliners and two desks (one that broke in the move). The rest was clothes, all in carrying handled bags or totes. And boxes of stuff. They don't come out and assess the amount of stuff, so I told them like 50 boxes. I didn't know for sure, I wasn't done packing. When the 3 guys showed up the one in charge flipped sh--t on the amount of stuff. Called Bob and requested help. Long story short, I fed them lunch and gave them $100 tips. I got a couch that was not put back together properly. They lost screws for the metal plate connectors and didn't make sure the recliners were functioning when they left. My $8000 bedroom furniture is missing the bottom on the 5 drawer chest. And there is a big white mark on the footboard. They also took my new 2-step ladder and left we with their worn out one that was on their truck. Yes, it was a long day, and it was hot. The icing on the cake was that the truck was too small!! I filled my car and my daughters and had to leave stuff in the garage and in the neighbors yard to come back for later. Thank god the new owners allowed us to leave stuff behind. I was an hour late for my settlement. Worst move ever. Bob blamed me. He said I misrepresented what needed to be moved. I think he had bigger expectations of his moving guys then they are capable of. I paid them $1700 for the day, plus the tips. The guys wasted time, didn't wrap my furniture, as I was told, and were more than compensated. When the one guy that came to help got there he had the entire garage empty in 20 minutes. He should have been there from the beginning, instead of the guy blowing up my bathroom. I would not recommend this company. You get what you pay for. Bob, you aren't in the field, your guys are bullsitters. I took good care of them and I ended up with a sectional couch that is all f-ckd up. read more

Upon requesting service the representative was kind and courteous (the reason for the 1 star). However, when the team arrived they made me aware of a different quoted price that was not outlined at the beginning of the contract. I was apprehensive but needed the service so I proceeded with the service. I was charged a rate for 3 hours + overages despite the employed movers talking and not using their time effectively. One even used my bathroom for extended amount of time, sharing that his stomach hurt. This one particular mover also asked for items that he thought we leaving behind for his personal use. The most shocking event was when the selected mover was assisting with mover a heavy piece of furniture and walked away stating " I'm 60 years old and I'm not hurting myself". Please note safety is the number one concern and he left the remaining movers in harms way when he decided to walk away during the lifting of the furniture. These incidents were unacceptable and when shared with the company they credited me 50.00 after charging and additional 200.00 for time spent. After they rendered services we still were responsible for moving two truck loads of Items that were not moved because of the poor management of time. read more

Very upset about my experience with these guys. I wish I'd saw the YELP reviews before hiring them. They charge close to $150/hour and are very unprofessional. Arrived at 9:30AM, charged me from 9:00AM. (So that's about $75 extra to them for nothing). They are overly chatty and slow. The older man, "the driver", kept saying he's been doing this for 20 years and has had tons of hernias and has one now. I'm sorry but I don't want to hear about your personal medical history. It's none of my business, it's gross, and I am paying you (not the other way around). If you want to talk about hernias, please go talk to your doctor. Also, the older guy decided to criticize us about how we packed our totes. Seriously? Very rude. The totes were clearly labeled whether they were going to our new residence, or whether they were going into storage. Despite my suggestion that they pack the truck according to this, they did not, which slowed down the process. They then kept taking totes on and off the truck that belonged in storage because they weren't reading the labels. I moved from Philly to South Jersey. It took my fiance and I 45 minutes to get from Point A to Point B and we did not speed. They arrived ONE HOUR after us, with what my brother observed as McDonalds bags/beverages in the truck. My guess is they stopped at McDonalds for lunch. No apologies or discount was offered, which means I paid them ~$150 for the hour they stopped for lunch. That's not fair, especially since it wasn't discussed upfront. In my experience, I overpaid by at least a couple hundred dollars due to them being late to arrive at both destinations. Having said that, even if it had been a couple hundred dollars less -- the unprofessionalism and rudeness I dealt with made me deeply regret hiring them. read more

These men were awesome. I often feel like people only go to yelp to report a negative experience but it was 5 stars for me. Reading the reviews, I was nervous. The 3 guys who showed up were quick, professional and friendly. They were respectful of my time and money but not pushy. At 7 months pregnant, I was really stressed out, but they helped ease the chaos of moving. The one guy kept me laughing all day. They actually moved the home owners OUT of the home we were moving into and those home owners also had really great things to say. Thanks for a good experience! read more

My family and I cannot say enough about South Jersey Moving (SJM)! We had a moving company cancel a day before our move. We were devastated that we may have to move a 4 bedroom home by ourselves. Ironically, my wife and I called SJM within 5 minutes of eachother and spoke to Rob about our situation. We had to move in less that 24 hours on Wednesday, store our belongings overnight and have the trucks deliver the next day. Without hesitation he said, yes, we will make sure you are taken care of! That morning we had (2) large trucks and (8) guys at our house, on-time and moving us out immediately. They were very careful, packed the trucks quickly and professionally. All of the guys were polite and had great personalities. (Even in 90 heat!). The next day they arrived at our new home and moved us in flawlessly. I cant say enough about South Jersey Moving. From start to finish they were polite, respectful of our belongings and hustled. I feel so stupid for not having read these reviews beforehand. And worse--I used these guys not once but twice! The first time wasnt so bad. That was a few years ago. But this time, it was a bloody nightmare. Where to begin? Totally unprofessional. Within minutes of arriving (on time) they had already doubled their estimate. I expected the cost to be somewhat higher but not that high. I had very little furniture, just a lot of boxes. So basically it was a lot of back and forth with a handtruck. Yet all they did was complain. I made a Wawa run and picked up drinks and snacks thinking this might help. It didnt. In the end, they left stuff in the house, the yard, everywhere. Oh, and they STOLE my July 4th fireworks. I am not joking. I raced to the new home assuming they would be there soon and not fully realizing just how much had been left behind (I was alone, and trying to do several things at once and was too trusting I guess). They took 2 hours to get there, which included lunch. The distance between houses is about 12 miles. By then it was getting ridiculously late so I said just unload everything in the front room. And so they did. I was buried in my own belongings for 2 weeks after that, and ended up moving everything myself to where it belonged. When I returned to the old house a day later realizing that things were missing I called and asked that someone bring the rest of the stuff. They grudgingly said they would, and that we would set something up and they would call. After that, I never heard from them. They never called back, and I never reached them again. i called for 10 days before giving up. Mean time my landlord changed the locks and threw the stuff away. ALL of it. Now I am in a court battle with HIM!! Have I told you enough? Do you want this to be you? Just don't. You'll be sorry you did. read more

I had a good experience with these movers and will recommend them to my sister. My daughter moved from an apartment in Philadelphia to NJ and the 3 men that showed up (on time) were very professional and efficient. They put shrink wrap on dressers and when I asked them to shrink wrap the mattress and box spring since it was being stored, did so without complaint. Actually the move was less than the 2 1/2 hours I thought it would take but the price was reasonable compared with others movers I called for the same move. For me it was money well spent. read more

My opinion, very unprofessional. They were early which was fine but when someone said something as a joke they got mad. Took childish fits. Then when the driver saw there was a lot of work he got sick and had to leave. Then another man came and whined and complained. There were two men that actually came to do work. I'm hope they find jobs elsewhere. Older man lazy never lifted anything but continually said I've been in the business 18 years like anyone cares. Everything went on dollies. To add insult to injury they wouldn't take my furniture upstairs said they couldn't get it up, after paying $1300, stuff is just piled in the rec room and garage and I have to hire someone that will actually work. So anyone calling south jersey moving please make sure you have dollhouse furniture. Or zero steps. read more

So here's the scam..the LEAST they charge for 3 men for 2.5 hours is $450.00. If it takes them less than 2.5 hours to move you...the price is STILL $450.00. But they never said that on the phone. I figured to move a lot of stuff myself to get the work they would do in less than 2.5 hours. They still charged me $450.00!!!! Not less., they left a lot of stuff to move that they could of moved; and, a few things I asked them to move they didn't. I call that RIP OFF. If I can't save money with you guys and you are going to charge me $450.00 for 2.5 hours of work and only do 1.5 hours, then you should clearly say that or when you guys were here they should of said that they should keep working cause I can't get it for less than $450.00. WARNING!!!! Do Not Use this company! 3 men came and they drug my reclining sectional across the carpet and put a 8 inch tear in it! When i brought it to their attention, all three tried to say that it was already there! I paid 250.00 an hour to have my carpet torn! They are unprofessiomal and liars who take no pride in their work and when I called the owner he said, he would take 20.00 off the bill. What an insult! They showed up. That's what the 1 star is for. After 1 hour, they tools 20 minute smoke break. These guys complained from the second they got there. A bunch of very unprofessional cry babies. They didn't wrap anything in the blankets that movers use, instead they just banged and bumped into the walls. Furniture was broken and scratched, walls were damaged. Boxes labeled which rooms they were to go into were all brought into 1 room. Wouldn't recommend these people to anyone. When they were almost finished, one of them asked me if I was buying them lunch. I gave them a nice tip, but have regretted it. read more

I would like to add my experience to the bad reviews. If there was a zero they would get it. The owner of this company came to our home on Friday, gave us an estimate and I told him we would let him know Monday. Our date was available. I called Monday AM as promised and spoke with the manager who confirmed the dates availability and thanked me. I called other movers I had quotes from and thanked them but let them know I had gone with another company. I just got a TEXT at 4:50 PM Tuesday that "we are sorry we are booked and cant do your move". Our move is less than a month away. AVOID THIS company, a little Googling will also reveal that they were charged in a "moving ring scam" in 2012 for operating without a license. read more

I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. I confirmed a move with Jose, the manager, on June 3rd for June 17th at 2:00. On the day of the move, I received a phone call from Jose at 1:30 stating they will not be able to move me today, maybe tomorrow. I then said, "I have to move today." Jose then said, "let me call my foreman, maybe at 5:00. I will call you back." I said, "Yes, please because the apartment is inhabitable after today." As of today, I never received a call back, I even left 3 voicemails to try to get an explanation. This company is very unprofessional and unreliable. read more

SJ moving company was a terrible disappointment. I should have known from my initial contact with Rob, one of the co-owners that my experience would be sub-par. I needed to repeat myself several times for dates and pricing, while his response was "Oh, sorry, I'm doing, like, 5 other things right now." This was a forecast of a series of anxiety-producing situations leading up to the grand finale of moving day. Three separate price quotes later from the two owners who clearly did not communicate with each other, my final cost ended up being $200 more than the estimate, along with double the hourly rate beyond the base they promised. Not only did they ask to change dates the evening before the moving day, with the excuse "they have SO much going on", when I called to clarify the price the response was offensive and downright demeaning. Essentially, I thought the price was too good to be true, and it was. The end result was paying $200 more than a competitor's price, a headache, and a couch that was not moved upstairs. read more
