DON'T DO IT. If you're reading this and trying to decide on a gym--Not this one. There are other…read moregyms in the area, including regular gyms and crossfit ones that are sure to treat you better and have better facilities. I'll start with the non-personal review first. -They're expensive. -They close incredibly early. -They will try to milk you on fees- You're not a person here, you're a cash cow. (despite the fact that this is not a huge box corporation gym) -Their equipment is outdated and there is not nearly enough of it. -No one shows up to run their fitness classes-every time I went at least. I am a Marine combat veteran trying to train and get myself back in shape as I'm applying for a few law enforcement jobs. It's not easy transitioning form the military to civilian life. Money is tight but I needed a gym to get back into shape and I was drawn to the fact that this gym was privately owned and operated. It's a small town community gym that would treat me like a friend/member of the community or so I thought. Not the case. My credit card was stolen, I received a new one on the 1st of the month. Fees are due on the 1st of the month. I called on the first and paid my dues- So I wasn't late in paying my dues..... TWO WEEKS later I was called and told I would have to pay a late fee of $40 bucks. Obviously I was upset. And as I mentioned money is tight. I told the lady (Cathy) who called everything I mentioned above about paying on time and my credit card...She didn't care. I was so upset I asked what the cancellation fees were and she literally LAUGHED at me before she told me. To sum it up, I paid my gym fees on time over the phone. But Because it was a new card they wanted me to pay a $40 late fee- two weeks after the fact. Would you pay this? Apparently if you're not with their program and question what they do, they kick you out. Two hours later Cathy gleefully called me and told me my membership had been cancelled and to find another gym. Is this the kind of community gym you want to go to? This is how they treat people, not to mention veterans trying to make ends meet. This might seem embellished but it's not at all- take it for what it's worth when you're deciding on a gym here in Oroville.

For me that's an instant turn off because every other club we've toured has given us at least a day free pass. The equipment is old for the prices they charge. The sauna doesn't work in the women's room. You feel like you're in a hospital with the pink plastic curtains over the showers. I really was unimpressed. Sadly, I may still end up joining because it is so much closer than my other options but they hardly deserve to call themselves a sports club. Oh yeah and get this: they don't even allow members to bring guests in EVER. They are tight asses but apparently in the trashy town of Oroville that is how a business must operate.

You can tell everything you need to know about a business by how it responds to negative reviews…read more And the way in which Chico Sports Club made false statements about me without knowing who I am, questioned my email handle as if I don't have a right to privacy, and then demanded that I had no right to say they were disrespectful, tells you everything you need to know about the character of this business. Poor character. Bad manners. Rude people. Bullies. Chico Sports Club is a poorly-owned and poorly-managed gym. Not sure why Chico Sports club cares what my email handle is. Also no threats were made, no intimidation, so that is a defamatory statement by Chico Sports Club, and they are subject to a lawsuit over making false statements in response to a review. And I have every right to say a business is disrespectful if they are disrespectful. That's called freedom of speech, and as a veteran of the Armed Forces, I will use my 1st Amendment Right to call out disrespectful businesses. Don't ever give these people a cent. They are unsound. My review was well-written and objective. Chico Sports Club's response was unhinged, insulting, and defensive of their bad behavior. The front desk staff and personal trainers are the only reason why this place is still in business. It certainly isn't because it is being run by a competent owner or managers. Every time I went, at least one machine I wanted to use was out of use, often times for long periods. Days, sometimes a week or more. Sometimes weeks. The steam room had issues on a few occasions. The banister in the exercise pool was broken for a long period of time. The main lap pool is shared with various groups, so the few lanes that are available, are being rented out to outside groups every day for several hours a day. They leave one or two lanes for the members I think. But that's not a lot when you have regular gym members using the pool and outside groups splitting about six lanes. The pool itself is in terrible condition. I don't think it's ever been redone. I often found things like bandaids, large bugs of various kinds, cement chips from the pool bottom. Etc. And, if you pushback against Chico Sports Club raising member prices and fees, they cancel your membership and blacklist you. Doesn't matter if you're a disabled veteran. Another 1st Class business in Chico. Chico Sports Club is disrespectful to disabled veterans.

Team bonding is also a big one for Coach Dre, last season we went to a local food bank as a team & gave back to our community. It was great a great experience. To the coaching staff, Thank you for your time & patience. Not only is this a wonderful place to train, the gym is fully equipped with a banquet room in the back portion of the facility so you're able to rent out the whole gym & throw a party! There's a full fridge, sink, 4 big tables & about 20 chairs. There's also an area where I was able to put a balloon arch for photos & a couch and more tables, so it can accommodate a big party. There's a speaker system that you can connect to & play your play list while the kids play basketball. I appreciate the nice clean restroom for my guests. I recently just rented the facility & threw my son his 12th birthday: 3 point shooting contest, 3 on 3, Knock Out, food, cake, and lots of laughs!! He had the best time ballin' with his friends. I highly recommend everything about this place. Thanks for everything Coach Dre!

Poor management, poor membership practice, poor communication, poor business practice. BTW, by still refusing to put up the tennis court cover management has saved $80,000 and will save another $40,000 this winter. But they evidently can't afford the very inexpensive numbers to properly number the tennis courts. The tennis courts are the most poorly numbered courts in NorCal. Poor numbering causes inconvenience and confusion for the members, guests, USTA competitors and USTA officials. Management also refuses to buy proper modern inexpensive rainwater removal equipment. Even many public courts are more up to date than DH. The management decision to not allow outside players to participate in USTA teams is wrongheaded. This is poor for business, hard on captains and deprives members from regularly enjoying participating on competitive teams. Management does not properly support the excellent tennis director, coaches and players. The front desk, maintenance, cleaning staff and coaches are excellent.

I'm very disappointed with how this club treats its swim team members…read more Although we pay both membership fees and swim team fees, swimmers are not allowed to use club towels, spa facilities, or the adult locker room, even when children are accompanied by adults and under supervision. Meanwhile, these amenities are available to other members. This creates a clear sense of inconsistent and unfair treatment toward a specific group of paying members. What is particularly frustrating is that these rules and differences in treatment were not clearly explained at the time of joining or during the sign-up process. Members are not made aware in advance that swimmers may be treated differently or have more restricted access compared to other members. There have also been repeated instances where a female parent has entered the boys' locker room many many times, which raises additional concerns about how locker room access rules are being enforced and managed. I have raised these issues with management, but they have not been addressed in a transparent or satisfactory way. If you are considering joining with children in the swim team, I would strongly recommend asking very specific questions about facility access and how policies are applied before committing.
