I've been coming here for almost a year now and have loved all of the classes and amenities the gym has to offer! The staff is also really nice. It's never too busy which is great! I'm able to use the machines I need without having to wait like I did at other gyms. The only thing holding this place back from being a five star gym is the cleanliness. For the amount you pay per month your think it would be a lot cleaner than it really is. It doesn't take much paying attention to notice how grimy the carpets are or how badly the water fountains need a good a clean. I've been too all the other (cheaper) gyms in town and can say that they they were cleaner than this place. I wish they'd put some more effort into cleaning beyond taking out the trash and restocking towels. A good deep clean is definitely needed read more

I have liked this gym for a long time. I was a long time member, left with Covid, back about 18 months I think. The staff - and this remains a constant - are very nice and welcoming. It is certainly the most upscale option in Petaluma. That said, I feel it going downhill, perhaps more objectionable given a recent price increase for all members and then a discount program with Kaiser ending at same time (not sure if is decision of latter or club). I put my back out a few months ago so after an absence, have been back a good bit mainly just using sauna and jacuzzi. Phones have infiltrated both. No exaggeration. It would be an exception in my last 6 visits to not encounter someone on their phone in the (male) sauna. Literally there yesterday and a guy was playing music and scrolling. Guy next to him scrolling. This sort of thing seems to constantly happen at all my recent visits. I don't get it and there appears to be no checks or enforcement. I likely wouldn't mind so much if someone is quietly scrolling (though how the phone takes it, I don't know), but it is often someone watching a game on tenderhooks and reacting or listening to music which tends to leak out earphones if they are nice enough to even use them. It is stressful for other members and an invasion of privacy potentially. It is also sad that everyone is so addicted, they can't stop for even 15 mins. Game you want to watch? Go to a bar. Can't stop scrolling? Get some help from counselor or rehab! A new one 4 nights ago was out in jacuzzi. It is common for people to have their phones lying right next to jacuzzi, which they check occasionally. There was a guy (with earbuds in), phone propped up, watching some sort of cryptocurrency YouTube channel. We could all watch along. Distracting and annoying. Kids (under the age allowed) are again frequently coming into jacuzzi too. The parents always shrug sheepishly like they have no control, if they bother to acknowledge everyone's glares at all. I don't say anything as it is not my job to enforce, tempting as it is. It feels like the sheer number of people is now too high. I simply cannot get in to some classes unless I time it to hit apply within a few mins of booking opening. Still a nice gym and health club, but the relaxing benchmark feels like it is dipping low and not what I expect at $120 a month. I would ask management to consider if they received similar feedback and to act on enforcing (or create) rules around phone use and to reestablish boundaries in areas intended for adults. read more

Since my previous review, not one thing has been done. I've just been given excuses. You would've thought that this would've been a priority, but NOPE. Front Desk & Sales Team = 5 Trainers = 5 Kids Club = 5 Lux Spa = 5 Zumba Instructors = 5 Classes & Instructors = 5 Pool Area & Staff = 4 Cleanliness = 1-2 Weights (Plates) = 0 EMBARRASSING This is supposed to be an exclusive or high-end club and it has significantly took a turn for the worse. The executive locker room bathroom and common area bathroom's just stink like urine. I pay for the executive locker room and don't even take advantage of the laundry service because they constantly lose my clothes. Haven't used the service in over 7 months. The executive bathroom is definitely not even cleaned once a day and inspected throughout the day. I could say the same for the men's locker room. Just dirty. The mirrors are horrible all over the facility. Nasty cobwebs all over the outside of the building. Always running out of towels. Especially hand towels in the executive locker room. Absolutely zero periodic walk throughs, cleaning schedules / checklists, and evening management at ANY level. Gym wipes and garbage left on floor, by equipment, and in window sills for days. The walls and window sills are dirty and gross. There's not even enough 45lb plates on the gym floor. Look at the photos. Planet Fitness has more 45lb plates than Active. It's sad to see this club turn into a lackluster establishment. Their corporate leadership clearly doesn't support the onsite management or it would have never gotten this bad. read more

I went to this gym for about 6 months consistently and thought it was a good experience, utilizing their childcare regularly for my two young kids. Overall I thought it was a good option, the girls at the day care were kind and my kids had fun. One day I dropped off my 2 yo and was so shaken up by what happened that I haven't been back. I went to pickup my daughter and the attendants had let a man into the children's area, presumably a child's dad. He had his backpack out and his phone out. There were a few other toddlers there as well. It was so jarring to know that they were so lax about safety, no verification or background checks whatsoever to be next to my child with only one other attendant present. I know the rules for other day cares are much more strict, not allowing anyone in with the kids unless they have been placed through a background check. I spoke with the manager and she was dismissive and tried to justify the incident. I would be surprised if this was within the licensing regulations for day care, but I haven't looked into it. I would never bring my kids here again and will be more diligent in the future when vetting childcare facilities. read more

My husband and I switched to Active Wellness after trying several other gyms in Petaluma, and we love it! It has a wide range of workout machines, several squat racks, and a good amount of benches. They offer a great selection of classes. The gym is always clean, equipment is well-maintained, and the gym itself is really pretty. read more

I initially joined because of their class schedule-- I really like the variety of class offerings, and the many options. However, only after joining did I realize just how difficult it is to get into the classes. They are always booked a week ahead of time, even if you try to book first thing in the morning, the week before! It is a race to be able to book a spot in time. I find this super frustrating. For me, it is not worth the amount of money they charge, unless you are one to not care about taking classes. The other thing that disappointed me is the customer service. Though the staff is very nice, they make a lot of scheduling mistakes with your training appointments. It is best to schedule directly with your trainer. Once I joined (online), I was not able to get any sort of "orientation", despite my many requests, and despite being told over and over that someone would call me to schedule one. I eventually gave up. I really like that they have a lot of amenities, and it is a very clean and spacious gym, and the staff is nice. read more

it is a great gym and one of the nicest I have ever been to. I will never go there again. I signed up at the beginning of the year when they were offering free memberships on the senior one pass. After three months without any notification, they drop the membership and when I try to enroll in a class, said I would have to start paying $105. when I called to find out why hoping it was an error. They said they mistakenly thought they were going to be on this offered it and then decided they weren't going to be offered this. I said this sounded like a bait and switch. They said it wasn't but if it wasn't, why was there no notification to anyone you just signed up but you had to pay money. Buyer beware read more

Very glad i decided to sign back up for this gym. Used to come here a little under 10 years ago but ended my membership as it was too out of the way for me. Now that I live closer it makes it a lot easier to come here again! I had to mark down one star since the actual weight area could use some improvements. Tons of cardio options, but the weight lifting situation leaves more to be desired. There's only a few benches and some key machines missing. Plus only one of each set of dumbbell weights, even 24 Hour has more options! Hoping they'll make some improvements to make the gym less outdated, but overall this is my favorite gym in Petaluma, and I've tried most of them! read more

The people who join this gym are extremely rude. I was harassed by a lady on the work out floor where she approached me twice about using my cell phone as if I was distracting her work out. They allow people to work out together, trainers to coach other members, and they even play music through speakers around the gym yet my one-time cell phone call was unacceptable. I was told by the manager that I will not be approached by others as long as I do not use my cell phone. This woman further reported me to staff where I was confronted with their no cell phone policy. However, when I asked for a list of policies, they were unable to provide me with them or any form of logical response until I reached out to their corporate office. It was not once acknowledged that the way I was approached made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe in an environment that I occupy to relieve stress. I have never once experienced anything like this before in any gym I have worked out in. Management should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this behavior. read more

Went here when it was still Club 1 and loved it. Then, once St Joseph's bought it, the whole atmosphere changed. Most of the clientele (at least early in the mornings) are old snobs. Club 1 used to host all kinds of events during the summer where you could bring your family, they had the water slide and everyone could have a lot of fun. Not so much anymore, when I brought my child for swim lessons, my wife had some old bitty complain about having a toddler present. Now the only events they have are wine tastings by the pool. Definitely catering to the snobs. The facility itself is really nice however. It has a spa feel to the locker room with the sauna and steam room. The gym equipment nice and maintained. They used to have an outdoor workout area which I loved. It had tires to flip, sled drag, small obstacle course. Now that area is becoming a hotel. read more

Tried a 3 day trial. Facility is ok, absolutely nothing special. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. 240 a month for 2 people. Absolutely crazy. And for just, only, a measly 100$ more per month one of us could get a locker!!! So thats 340 a month, only one locker. What a joke. read more

A great gym in Petaluma, the amenities, towel service, digital locks. The employees are attentive and kind. They keep the gym in order. I rejoined specifically for the separate saunas for men & women and the pool, it's outdoors and heated. The gym is spacious. There are lots of lounge areas, indoors and outdoors, for a nice reprieve from your everyday obligations. Loads of classes, machines and now offering child care and expanded weekend hours. This is a slightly conflicted review. The gym itself and classes that are offered all seem pretty good. The locker rooms are good and clean. They provide towel service. The weight room is a little small but still has most of the equipment that most people need. There are lots of rooms for group fitness classes. My main concern is over the customer service of the membership directly. My wife and I went to the club after a weekend guest pass. We spoke with Mark Slaughter about membership pricing. We had a minor disagreement about the membership price. Jamie, another employee at the club, had quoted us a different price than what Mark was suggesting. My feedback though is less about the cost and more about the interaction with Mark Slaughter. When we questioned Mark about the cost we became openly upset. His arms were folded the entire time, and made my wife and I very uncomfortable. It seemed like his voice and lip was even quivering with anger. His body language was hostile. It is a routine thing to discuss with a company representative the monthly payment (think cell phone plans, or car loans). It is rare that someone would get upset like that. It is hard to imagine feeling welcome back at Synergy as long as they have staff which treat their potential members with that kind of hostility. read more

We joined here about a month ago and we are very happy... Very clean, really nice people that work there, excellent weight room and exercise equipment. Very nice locker rooms, with individual showers all first rate. My wife loves the classes. We live in Novato and used to go to the Bay Club in Corte Madera otherwise known as rip-off city. Active Wellness is half the price with better equipment and locker rooms. It also has a great outdoor pool! read more

1 month later.... ---------------- OK the previous version was my "first impressions" * I still like saying hello to Jamie and Mark and Harmony when I walk in * I have settled in with Cory as my new personal trainer. Getting used to his style The result is that I now SHOW UP to the gym because I like the people and the place. I am typically getting in 3 days of strength training, one with Cory. I am getting two days of intense interval training and one "long and slow" for my cardio. The result is that I have lost 6.1 pounds and 5.9 pounds of that was F A T. I'm a happier guy as a result! First impression ... ------------------ I changed gyms to Synergy Health Club. Why? * I like the sign on the entry door "We're glad you're here". I've never seen that on any gym I've been a member of. * I like being greeted with a smile by a person wearing a name tag so I can get to know the staff by name. It's pretty apparent that the staff LIKES working here and their attitude is infectious. * I like the machines, the rooms, the changing room, and food area being immaculate. All these simple things are what gym web sites promise. Why the heck is it so rare that they 'walk the talk'? The manager must hire great people and manage eveto make this happen. read more

This place is the best. I thought I'd only love it in the summer but it's a great place to get work done too! ...you know, while I'm not getting "work done" in the weight room. ;) Facilities are beautiful, locker rooms are kept clean, working rooms are adequately served with outlets and WiFi, machines are new and reliable (you can watch bravo while you work out!!), the pools are great- lots of lounge chairs, tons of parking and friendly but not overbearing staff. Really, really love coming here. Haven't checked out the classes but I'm guessing they're great too. They also offer a Physician Referred Exercised Program, that's how I joined (recovering from Breast Cancer) which is AWESOME! I worked with Kathy, who's absolutely amazing, kind and helpful. They take all your info, set you up with a trainer and monitor your progress. It's wonderful! read more

High quality health based club that has lots of options to upgrade services. Lounge with fireplace, 2 outdoor clean heated pools. Family pool has been our go to spot this summer as I have been teaching my youngster to swim. Great no cost pool side food and beverage service! Food is a great value for the quality. Feels resort like. Equipment in gym is clean and well maintained and always working. Open and well ventilated area upstairs looking over pool. This place used to be a great club. The best in Petaluma at one point. Now, it is clear they've abandoned all care for their employees and members. Profit is king when St. Joseph's is in charge. During the COVID crisis they've ignored critical medical advice from our state officials and kept their pool operating while forcing employees to work during a state of emergency. They are contributing to the rising COVID numbers in our county by haphazardly transitioning their classes to outdoor use and requiring employees to work. As a member, I'm ashamed. I know of several others have cancelled their membership and I am close to cancelling as well. If you are a member, I suggest you join us, or at least demand a higher standard of accountability from your health club. When Synergy decides to work towards a mission of health and wellness for our community, and ceases to value financial reward above all else, maybe their members will return. read more

Courtney, the General Manager, Jeremy, Aquatics Director, Erica, Assistant Aquatics Director, Ely, Fitness Director, Mark, Membership Director, Jaime, Membership Representative , Victor, Housekeeping Lead and Juliana make the CLUB a safe, welcoming, inviting and clean gym. During all the difficulties of the Pandemic, Courtney and her team were excellent listeners, politely enforced public health guidelines and resolved issues with appropriate solutions. Synergy Health Club's staff, along with the Group Fitness instructors, want members to be comfortable and happy at the BEST HEALTH CLUB in Sonoma County. Also, Synergy Health Club has a variety of well maintained cardio equipment, weight lifting machines and lots of free weights. A good selection of group fitness classes where every person can feel comfortable exercising at their level. Synergy Health Club is my happy place. read more

Super clean. Snack bar. Waterslide!! Came here as part of a day trip to the area. It is definitely one of the nicer Club One locations, and from the outside, it looks HUUUGE!! Don't let the 40,000 square feet fool you though. Some of the inside is used up by lounge/waiting areas and offices. The upstairs cardio/weights section seems a bit small. I was disappointed to find that there wasn't a single regular ab/crunch/sit up bench! The only ab stuff I could find was weight resistance machines and an Ab Coaster. Very strange. Also, while doing my cardio, I could smell things being cooked somewhere, possibly from the snack bar downstairs. Very distracting. The free weights area had all new weights, but also limited on benches. There was only one each of straight, incline, and decline bench press. The locker rooms are really nice and have little closet sections to hang clothes. They also have all electronic keypad locks, eliminating the need to carry a key around with you. The water area is where this club really shines. Theres a huge lap pool with 5 lanes, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a big waterslide!! There were tons of kids/families here, they must have special memberships for water sports. There are plenty of chairs, and even a fire pit and bbq station there, which can be rented out for small parties. Very cool. If I'm in the area again on a hot day, Id stop by for a few rides down the waterslide and a quick workout. read more

LEGIT. (And suuuuper swank.) What didn't they think of in designing/building this place? You can enjoy a posh workout sesh, do a little spa retreat, hit up the cafe, drink by the firepit, or hangout and watch TV in the lounge. The bike race simulation totally kicked my ass, but yoga right after put me in the most awesome frame of mind. Tomorrow I'm totally hitting up the sauna and steam room post-yoga, and if I'm feeling ambitious, maybe I'll try out the waterslide. read more

I am a member of Active Sports in Almaden Valley and happened to be up in Petaluma so stopped by to workout. This club is located near Kohls off N McDowell Blvd and Redwood Way near 101 freeway. Nice large car park. The front desk staff is friendly. They have a really nice changing room and lockers that you program your own key digitally, no fee. Individual shower cubicles with doors, not communal showers like some clubs. The locker area has very good airflow, did not smell of sweaty socks, the bathroom odor did not linger, definitely A+, it smells cleaner and better than the Almaden Valley locker room which is disgusting at times! The ground floor is essentially a changing area (men and womens locker rooms, showers) and meeting rooms. They also have a shop that serves food and health drinks. They have two swimming pools, one for lane swimming and one for children or adults just to hang out with a slide. My teen kids who are also members loved it. On the second floor is the cardio, free weights and machines. Really open area, lots of light and not too crowded. I did not see any personal trainers working out with any clients or on the floor so cannot comment on their friendliness or knowledge. I did like some of their equipment, but it was missing the hammer strength bench press machines, shoulder shrug machine and ab deck that I use at the Almaden branch. So I give this club changing rooms, pool, 4 stars, free weights 5 stars and the machine/ weight equipment 3 stars. If you live near the area, it is definitely a plus and with the network it is worth the price of membership. 4 stars overall. read more

I have been to a lot of gyms around the country and this is one of my favorites. It is not as well equipped as some of the other ones I have been to but makes up for it with the overall experience. I was in the area for a vacation and needed a place to work out for just a day. I went here and they let me in for free!!!! Apparently it was a free workout day. The locker rooms are awesome. Most of the gyms I have been to, I don't even use the locker room because they are filthy. This one is luxurious and well equipped. They also have massages available. Looked like they had a bunch of other amenities and services as well but I did not get a chance to check it all out. I just wish I had one of these close to where I live, I would join in a second. read more

The aquatics program has suffered greatly but continues to get more expensive. Our family did not like Jeremy as a manager and now that he is coaching, we are taking our children elsewhere starting in January. We had a great relationship with the previous coach for several years and would consider returning if things change for the better. The equipment is top notch and well maintained. Members are cordial with more than a few familiar faces from a previous club. I look forward to my workouts and interacting with staff and members. This is a wonderful health club. Mark is the membership manager and he is awesome!! Talk to him about a membership or even a pass to try it out!! This is hands down the best health club/gym in the county! The women's locker room is very clean. Towels galore. Good shampoo/conditioner/body wash. The steam room and sauna are SUPER clean. Yoga classes at 5:30am are refreshing and a perfect way to start your day. During the summer, it feels like a resort with the incredible outdoor lap pool. Give it a try. read more
